'I got started with the Christmas theme while shooting some of my calendar models on the holiday themed portrait backdrops and it just snowballed from there, pun intended.'

For my family, Christmas Eve meant being being able to unwrap one present, one package lying under the tree. Seemed a perfect time to feature the beautiful packages under photographer James W. Johnson's many Christmas trees. Now James didn't start out planning to shoot hot naked men falling out of Santa's sack, but then again, life's most interesting journeys are rarely ones we plan. James was a fire fighter, who supplemented his income, and his creative impulses, by starting his own photo-finishing business. James soon added a two room studio and began a new career as a studio photographer shooting portraits.

Zane

The Missouri photographer's work was quickly noticed by some local cycle and ski dealers and James quickly became the 'go to' guy for commercial glamour poster and calendar work, combining stunning male and female models with sleek and sexy motorcycles, jet skies, antique cars and trucks and fire engines. Calendar work meant, that depending on what month that was being shot, James' studio could be filled Valentine decorations, pumpkins and withes, stuffed Easter bunnies and of course a Christmas tree's and lots of presents in need of unwrapping.

One of the things that always resonates for so many each Christmas, is the emotion and nostalgia that arises when unpacking the Christmas ornaments. Most of us have boxes still containing blue lights, gold garland, thread balls and ornaments given to use years ago by aunts, uncles and grandparents. It's hard to throw these things out, and although we don't put them up any longer, they stay in the plastic totes year after year. Given James has been shooting models and calendars for over 30 years, you know there were decades of retro ornaments and Christmas fads that made there way onto his calendars.

Valentino

I am always looking for great holiday shots and last week, while searching for 'sexy Santa's', came upon a shot of an adorable model wiggling his naked body out of a Santa Sack. The shot was on Pinterest, and James logo had me tracking him down. The model in the shot was Tim, and when going through James' large selection of Christmas images, I loved the 'under the tree' theme James used in various creative and color ways in many of his holiday shoots.

Travis

James' glamour and calendar work spurred him start shooting nudes on the sides. James began shooting mostly female models, often on motor cycle, or on the side of a fire truck. Soon, male models were added to James' repertoire, just about the same time the beefcake craze hit. James says his work with male models just took off, surpassing his work with female models to the point they became his primary focus.

Kris

'I got started with the Christmas theme while shooting some of my calendar models on the holiday themed portrait backdrops and it just snowballed from there, pun intended. :) While I was shooting the calendar and poster work, I was shooting guys and gals evenly, but afterwards the work with guys just flat out took over, and I began shooting guys in greeting cards, magazine layouts and covers, and websites, plus calendar companies started asking for my work and then poster companies as well.'

That same nostalgia you experience when looking through old Christmas decorations is beautifully seen and felt in James' images. Some of the images featured here were taken at various times over the last decade plus. James also sent along his most recent holiday themed shoot featuring his work with Kris, shown in the three shots above, which were shot just last week. James shares that Kris really got into the Holiday theme, adding another bulging package underneath the tree.

Tim

Although James has shot man professional models, many of the models he shoots with are actual fire fighters, and first time models he has found and connected with. James' images have appeared in Mens Workout, Exercise For Men Only, Instinct and Blue Magazine. Although the calendar and greeting card business is not as lucrative as it once was, you can see a large selection of the models James worked with on his site HERE: James also a glamour site (Raging Sensations) that features many of his calendar and poster images from the mid 90`s when I was shooting the fire service.

'You know what it says on Love Potions... shake well but don't tell.'

For many, Christmas isn't Christmas without a viewing of It's A Wonderful Life. Although I like the movie, my favorite Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie is actually 1940's The Shop Around The Corner, which helped inspire the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film You've Got Mail in (1998) Jimmy Stewart is sort of Mr. Christmas, which is why he was the subject of my 2012 12 Days post. (Wonderful Life)

Stewart was in yet another Christmas movie that I just added to my favorite Christmas movie list, Bell, Book and Candle. The 1958 film, co-starring actress Kim Novak, was film just after Stewart and Novak appeared on screen together in Vertigo. They make a great combo, and I think their chemistry is even more apparent in this film. Bell, Book and Candle is sort of a holiday hybrid film, combining both Christmas, with a dash of Halloween together in one fun movie.

Novak plays Gillian, a witch living in an apartment under Shep's (Stewart), and casts a spell causing his phone not to work, causing the book publisher to come a knocking to use her. The movie begins at Christmas, with Gillian hanging out and partying with her friends, (coven) played by Elsa Lanchaster and Jack Lemmon.

The movie is memorable for many reasons, two my favorites include Pyewacket, Gillian's cat who steals every scene. Then there's Gillian's Christmas tree which I am sure many at the time tried to replicate in their living rooms. A wonderful winter movie, with Christmas, witchcraft and some great performances.

'Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
Oh what a beautiful sight
So jump in bed and cover your head
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!'

I thought I would provide a little dream inspiration for after you've jumped in that bed, and covered your head. Not one, but two sexy Santa's, that will hopefully be coming tonight... I am not sure if the come more quickly for naughty or nice, but either way they've taken off and are on their way to a chimney near you. Lights On Studio's Tom Nakielski made his first Christmas day appearance in 2015 with his shots of model Hansel Wellington straddling a giant wreath while keeping a firm grip on his candy cane. (Cocks & Candy Canes) Last Christmas, it was Tom's images of Antoine (Gift Wrapped) that bolstered the merriment.

This year, Hansel makes a holiday return with a new Santa in the spotlight themed shoot.  Our second stripping Santa Josh Humble, an art model I recently took notice of on Model Mayhem and Instagram. Tom had a great time shooting with Josh, who he describes as enthusiastic and easy to create with. Josh is also a photographer, and the related well with Josh knowing instinctively what Tom was looking for.

12 Days: Zack Ward in A Christmas Story

'Say Uncle!
Louder!'
Scut Farkus

When I was looking for actors and movies to feature in this years Christmas day edition of 12 Days, I kept coming back to A Christmas Story. It was strange to me, because although I know the film is a cult classic, it was a film for some reason, I had never seen. Yes, I knew it had marathons most Christmas' and yes, I had caught a few minutes here and there, but for some reason, even though I owned the DVD, (it was given as a gift) I was not drawn to the film.

For some reason, I am not sure the film is a cult favorite of many gay men. There is a bully, a distant father, and a main character, whose dream is to won a gun. But, we can all relate to being a kid, and dreaming of a specific Christmas gift, we will die if we don't get. Mine was always a dog, and I was always disappointed. This year however, maybe due to the added publicity of Fox's musical version, I decided to give it a full viewing.

It's funny because despite it's title, there really isn't much 'story' in A Christmas Story. I enjoyed the film, but not sure enough to warrant a second viewing. What the film had going for it, in addition to it's nostalgic look a 1940's Christmas, was a half a dozen great scenes. Memorable scenes such the dogs stealing the turkey, Randy and Ralphie at the mall and for me, the viewing of the Higbee store;s Christmas window display.

What the film also had, was pitch perfect performances by actors Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin and Zack Ward. I hate bully's, but Zach's Scut Farkus, along with his sidekick Grover Dill, were adorable. Adorable in a grade school bully from the 40's kind of way, not a school bully from the 2010's kind of way. Scut and Grover were clearly from struggling families, families without a lot of extra love, or money. Their bullying was cruel of course, but also had limits, mostly confined to pummelling a snowball at your face, or putting you into a headlock until you said Uncle.

Then & Now: Zach with Yano Anaya (Grover Dill)

Scut is one of the films most iconic and memorable characters, and a quick google search of actor Zack Ward led to some surprising and sexy results. My love of gingers is well known to FH readers, and little Scut grew up to be a hot one! I don't think I ever would have guessed seeing recent images of Zack that it was the same person from the 1983 film.

'Zack got his first big audition for the film, and about 300 kids showed up for the part (originally he was the sidekick, Grover), and he kept getting called back until it was him and one other redhead. He won the role. On the first set, in Cleveland, the director told him that he was to play the part of Scut Farcus instead of Grover. This was his breakthrough.'

A Christmas Story was the Canadian born actor's first film, and he followed up his role of Scut with roles on Canadian television shows like Neon Rider, My Secret Identity, Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea. As he got older, Zack beganworking steadily south of the border in films like Freddy vs. Jason, and Transformers and on TV in shows like NYPD Blue, JAG, Deadwood and most recently on American Horror Story: Cult. Zack also spent three seasons on the FOX show Titus.

Christmas Help: Mark by Gordon Nebeker

One of the things that make each family's holiday unique is their individual traditions. What, when we eat, when gifts are open, how gifts are given. At FH, my postings for Christmas day have also taken on a welcomed tradition, one that I am pleased to be able to continue this year. For the last three holiday seasons, photographer Gordon Nebeker has taken on Christmas help to help decorate his home, deck his halls and reach those oh so high branches on the top of the Christmas tree.

For the last two years, it was Mr. Herzog hanging those balls and placing the Angel at the top of the tree. This year, Gordon's Christmas help is the adorable Mark, a model FH readers may recognize from his previous appearances. We first Mark in A Fashionable Submersion, when Gordon shot him changing from his business suit into his birthday suit, underwater of course! We next saw Mark last Christmas, shot by NMS as one of Santa's sexy Elf's. (When Santa's Away) So glad to have Mark back, especially with with images from Gordon to celebrate the day. Mark makes the perfect Christmas elf with his adorable smile and the twinkle in his sexy hazel eyes.  I am especially grateful that Mark and Gordon were able to squeeze in these shots in just a few minutes at the end of a busy day. So very much appreciated!

When I was working on a piece earlier this year on Studio 54, (Just Like An Old Time Movie) I came upon this shot of some of the waiters and bartenders at Christmastime. I would love to have been in New York, and been old enough, to have visited the clubs during its heyday. There is something so nostalgic and iconic about the place. There is also something incredibly sad. Like all thing filled with tinsel and glitter, Christmas included, nostalgia and sadness tend to come as part of the package.

It had me thinking about Christmas Day, and wondering if people flocked to 54 on the 25th because they were welcomed, and they wanted to be there, or because they had no family, nor anyone they wanted to spend it with.  Maybe no other dinner invitations or other options for the day. I'm sure there were different reasons for different people.

Regardless, it had me hoping all of those FH readers celebrating throughout December are doing it where, and especially with whom they truly want to. Whether your surrounded by friends and family, or celebrating in quieter, more peaceful manner, I wish you a joyous 25th and beyond.

'The original intention of Boxing Day was to 'box' up the excess of the abundance of the holidays, and give it to the poor.'
B. Leekley

Like most traditions, Boxing Day lore tells us that 'reflection' and 'giving' were at the core of the day's beginnings. Thought to have started in the UK, where instead of using the words 'Christmas present', the term 'Christmas-box' was used. Traditionally, servants worked on the 25th, serving the goose and plum pudding to the rich, over stuffed families they worked for. On the 26th though, help were given 'Christmas-boxes' by their employers, and given time off to visit with their own families.

The day became one to rest, relax and reflect upon the festivities of the previous day, and the previous year. A time to appreciate the wealth and advantages they had, and give back to others not as lucky or blessed. In many parts of the world, this is still the tradition. In many countries in the UK, in Canada and Australia, boxing day is still a day of rest, a long standing statutory holiday making Christmas longer, and providing an extra 24 hours for people, and the world, to relax and enjoy the holiday.

Of course times, and traditions have changed. Although the 26th remains a holiday, some countries who celebrate have succumbed to pressure to open malls and stores. Although many countries and provinces continue to delay Boxing Day sales until the 27th, every year there is a debate whether stores should be allowed to open or not. In the States, we know commercialism has already triumphed. Holidays seem to be getting shorter and shorter with even the one day Thanksgiving holiday, being shortened to just a few hours so stores can open.

I guess it's inevitable the world will eventually follow suit, but is sad to me that rest and relaxation is now something that has to be fought for and forced upon us. It says so much about how the addiction of constant stimulation has risen over the last few decades. I am old enough enough to remember when towns and cities stood beautifully, and a little eerily still. Nothing was opened but one gas station and restaurant, and if you didn't get the bank or the liquor store you were shit out of luck.

We all need this time, especially with how crazy the world has become. No one knows this better than Santa, who works most of the year, increasing his energy and stamina throughout December until exploding into the sky for a climatic ride on Christmas Eve. Santa wisely knows that after exerting that much energy, that after shooting across the planet sharing a explosive burst of his Christmas spirit, the only thing to do after, is take a well deserved collapse.

When I received these shots of Santa Danny from Photography by Hugh, there was the feel, and radiant look of a Santa in afterglow. A Santa  who is taking a well deserved siesta after expending every bit of energy while spreading his spirit. Many of you remember by last piece featuring Hugh's work with the delectable Danny. (Hide & Hair)  As I was putting together this series of shots, I was again reminded how of how much Danny resembles today's birthday boy, especially with his beautiful long and curly locks.

Somehow, the Santa hat has Danny looking even more delectable.  It helps bring out the warmth and twinkle in the Florida models beautiful brown eyes. I hope, like Danny in this series of images, you get some time to chill and take it easy before life rudely starts up again. I know not everyone will get the present or 'box' of time, but take the moments when you can.

12 Days: Jesse Hutch in Snowmance

First 3 images by Yinger Wong

I first noticed the high hotness factor of actor Jesse Hutch when we appeared in a few episodes of Smallville back in the early 90's. I really noticed however, in his one episode appearance as Peter in Red-Handed, an episode of Once Upon A Time in 2012. The episode was significant, as I had never watched Once Upon A Time, and although I enjoyed the episode, did not continue to watch after.

I think I watched after seeing Jesse in a promo commercial for the episode. There something about that face, that had me DVR and watch. I quickly found out, others shared my fascination with the Alberta born actor. I did a small piece on FH about Jesse after watching, (Red-Handed) which blew up the sites hits that week. When I saw Jesse credited in the new holiday film Snowmance, I knew Jesse was once again going to spend some time on my DVR.

Now I don't think it's a spoiler to say that Jesse doesn't play the guy the girl ends up with in Snowmance, in fact he doesn't actually play a guy at all. His charater Cole is more the winter inspired and snow built impetus that brings the main couple together. The guy who ends up with the girl is Nick, played by the talented and adorable actor Adam Hurtig.

Now I'm a little embarrassed to say, that I initially stereotyped 'Nick' as the 'gay best friend', but then remembered that TV Christmas movies don't have many 'gay best friends'. It was sort of a nice twist that Nick ended up being the guy and that Jesse was just a hunk of snow eye candy to enjoy and help take us along for the sleigh ride.

Cole & Nick

Playing a snowman means that Cole needs it to always be cold. cold, so.... thankfully when the fire heats up, his shirt has to come off.

'Anything your heart desires will come to you!'

I know some FH readers but be a bit tired of my multitude of merriment themed holiday posts, but bear with me. For me Christmas is more than just one day, it has to be, that one day hasn't always been that great. The holiday for me is the lead up, the anticipation, and the enjoyment and reflection in the days after.

My  parade of sexy Santa;s is coming though coming (slowly) to it's yearly end, but not without reflecting and thanking all those who helped spread visual, and virtual Christmas cheer to FH viewers. And... for those tired of my Kris Kringle's, enjoy them. This is FH, and if the site is still around at Easter, herds of bunnies will be on their way...

There is not time of year, not perfect for spending some time with Rick n Griff, and their Instagram, Adventure Time w Rick n Griff. Christmas however, is especially special. Even though the temperatures are colder, Rick and Griff still manage to find plenty of opportunities to peel off their onesies and find creative ways to shoot unique and sexy holiday images showing off two of their most amazing assets.

Rick n Griff's tag line on their page is a visual salute to the misadventures and comedic stylings of two newlywed (and often nude) nerds from Atlanta. Although they each have individual Instagram pages, (both also work a look) their page together is my favorite and I am a huge lover of the many ways they find to create such great imagery. I have yet to press 'join' but every image has be wanting to explore that OnlyFans link they have at the top of their page. Maybe a late Christmas gift to myself?

At His Most: Elo by Anthony Timiraos

'Every one of the models I used is unique and beautiful, but capturing the best of each while disclosing their personalities and channeling them through the lens was my challenge.'

For me, the essence of photography is about capturing a moment. Whether it be a professional photographer, or your camera wielding cousin Allen at the family Christmas party. For Allen, the goal is to coral the whole family together, many of whom last saw each other at the same event a year ago, for a group photo. That image, symbolizes a family, a party, that in many ways... doesn't really exist.

That group of family members, second cousins and great aunts, are not really ever together that often, except for Christmas parties, weddings and funerals. The photo is more a representation of a family, not how they usually are, but an extended family at their most unified moment of togetherness

Professional photographers have a goal to capture 'the most', very similar to Allen's. For photographers of the male form it's to capture their subjects at their most. At their most attractive, at their peak of physical fitness, and at their most erotically attractive and desirable. If a photographer doesn't capture a model at 'his most', they really haven't done their job, or accomplished their goal. 'At his most' is the theme of Anthony Timiraos' work, and the motivation for visually bringing together close to 40 models for his book expose.

Elo is certainly 'at his most', in this series of images from his two shoots with Anthony. Statuesque and powerful, physically breathtaking, flawless. Elo is also in control, another theme that I love about Anthony's work. To be at your most, means being both physically and mentally strong, and this strength, confidence and comfortability with self, is also something Anthony so beautifully captures in his imagery.

'As soon as he arrived at the studio, I knew Elo was special. A handsome man from western Georgia, full of energy and excitement. I can’t recall a photo shoot where I laughed as much as I did with a model. We connected the minute we met and in between our laughs, he posed like a professional. Minimal direction needed for Elo to understand my objectives.'

Models can act confident, and a skilled photographer can help create it, even when it's not in abundance. Comfortability with self is harder to manufacture visually, unless it already exists. Unlike confidence, which although internal, can be physically expressed, comfortability with self is can't really be created through a pose, muscle flex or intense stare at the camera. Although more difficult to see, it is plainly obvious when missing. Anthony's approach however, means it's not really something you have to worry about looking for. It goes hand in hand when a model is, or is seen to be... through the the eyes of an artist, to be at his most.

'I gave him a gold satin cloth and he instinctively worked the cloth into his poses with an artistic flare. When I told him I wanted to photograph a series of shots standing up, he new exactly how to work with the camera and lights to highlight his toned, well defined body. The three hour Sunday morning photo shoot flew by too fast. Hope to have the same opportunity with Elo again. He is a new friend.'

Gilloolied:

-to kneecap someone
-anything that is incredibly ill conceived
-mismanaged, incompetently handled or poorly executed.

Never thought I would ever be crushing over mustached douchebag Jeff Gillooly, but when played by Sebastian Stan, I found myself doing just that. In I, Tonya, Stan skillfully plays the abusive idiot to perfection, and although I hated the character, no amount of facial hair and make-up could hide the sexy side of Sebastian. The entire cast of I, Tonya was superb, starting with the brilliant performance by Margot Robbie as Tonya Harding. I love me some Allison Janney, but I sometimes thought she played it a bit broad, but then again, the woman she played was 'over the top'.

Political Animals with Sigourney Weaver and James Wolk

I haved loved Sebastian Stan since his turn on Political Animals, and still mourn the show's cancellation. The Romanian born actor has been working steadily on stage, TV and film since Political Animals left the air, most notably as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier in The Captain America films, but I, Tonya really gave him a great platform to showcase his considerable acting skills. It also gave us a brief, very brief (I mean very) shot of the top of his well toned butt while Harding humping.

Harding and Gillooly

I, Tonya gives a fascinating look at Tonya's life during her time skating, and although the film doesn't necessarily strive to have us like her, it does succeed in having us understand, and totally relate to woman we saw on the ice. I never found Nancy Kerrigan a particularly likable or compelling figure, and I, Tonya wisely has Kerrigan as a relatively minor piece of the drama, and of Tonya's life.
