'Canada was built on dead beavers'
Margaret Atwood

Margaret Atwood isn't far off.  It was indeed dead beavers, specifically their pelts, that helped make the furry rodent one of the emblems of Canada.  Canadians, not always known for their fashion sense, used to love their beaver hats, sure it's mighty cold in the winter, and it went back to the 1600's, but wearing dead rodents on one's head is a unique fashion choice.

Every Canada Day, I try to spotlight one of The Great White North's most well known symbols.  I featured hockey players, Mounties, Beaver's (well, this is FH, so more Bieber than beaver) and lost of men in the snow. This year, I tried for Curlers, I thought there had to be images out there.  Searching for hot Canadian curlers didn't bring back much, although there are Men of Curling calendar's, I could only find a few images.  I did find some adorable curlers, and maybe next year I'll find a way to sweep a few out of their clothes....  I think thought of maple syrup, but tapping season is over.  But... to any photographers who want a challenge,  the mix of man flesh and maple syrup could make for a fun, but sticky photo shoot.....

So..... until I find a naked curler or two, or a man draped in maple, enjoy this years salute to Canada and Happy Canada Day to all of the Canadian artists, actors and models who've been a part of the site, and the many Canadians who drop in to check them out!

Pre-Pool Party: Dawson by PR PHOTO

'They don't come much more perfect than Dawson.'

If you live in the US, you're hopefully gearing up for a holiday, a day off to celebrate or just chill and relax. It might be a picnic, a concert, or just doing what you love to do at home. If you live in Canada, you're just getting over your Patriotic celebrations and heading back to work.  You may have watched fireworks last night, but given Canada's unpredictable weather, there was a 50/50 percent chance they were cancelled or postponed.

For FH, it's the day between posting your Canada Day themed pieces, and finishing up editing your features for the Forth of July.  Given how much I love celebrating a holiday, especially with images of the fit male form, the first few days of July tend to be some of the most hectic.  That's why, before the Independence Day pool party gets underway, we'll jump into the pool with Dawson before the water's filled with screaming kids, overly chatty aunts, and cannonball crashing neighbours.

There's nothing like sliding in the pool pre-party.  The water's shimmering and still.  It's quiet except for the sound of bird's chirping.  When the party starts your father will be wailing at you to get more ice, and your mother will be yelling at your cousins to running beside the pool.  Today, it's the calm before the storm, and Dawson's determined to enjoy the pool, and the peace and quite, before the hoopla of July 4th takes over.

I am guessing, if you check into FH on a regular basis, you've picked up on some of what I like about the male form.  Dawson certainly checks off many of those boxes.  With his focus on fitness, 18 year old Dawson has a spectacular physique, beautifully toned, not overly bulked up and perfectly proportioned. As visually stunning as his body, Dawson's face, with his beautiful eyes and great lips, also vies for the viewers attention.

'Seeing Dawson in person for the first time one is immediately taken with his wide bright smile. For 18, he is amazingly confident and personable. Our shoot went very easily with Dawson hitting pose after pose both in and out of the pool. His physique is stunning and the camera loves him. This was definitely one of the easier shoots I have done.'

PR certainly knows stunning when he see's it, and knew Dawson was something special when he first saw his images on-line.  I knew instantly as well that Dawson has the 'it' factor, and have been patiently waiting to feature PR's shots.  PR originally sent on his work with Dawson last year, but I was patient, and wanted to feature Dawson's dip when the summer rolled around.

'Dawson oozes "cornfed muscled Midwestern boy" and of course he does. When he's not playing football for his local high school he's working out at the gym or running drills in football camp. I found Dawson on an Instagram shout out page for teen Bodybuilders. Just my luck that he lived only one hour away in a small Indiana town. We connected and finally found a date to shoot between his summer football camps and my busy shoot schedule.'

PR did an amazing job capturing a eye catching selection of images, capturing the results of all of Dawson's dedication to working out and all the long hours at the gym. PR also beautifully captured Dawson's face, and different emotions and looks, including his great smile.  If Dawson's schedule allows, PR is looking to schedule a second shoot, and I'll be sure to bug him about featuring images from the shoot when it occurs!.

Gimme an 'F'

Over the last couple of weeks, all over the country, students have been getting their final grades.  When I was in school, as much as I wanted to celebrate the last day of school, it wasn't until those grades came out that I could truly rest easy.  A good report card, even a so so one, (C's or above) meant my summer would be a fun one.

A bad report card however, even if I didn't have to go to summer school, meant a summer full of nagging.  If I wanted to go to the park, play ball, go swimming, I know one of my parents would respond with the look.  I knew full well, that stare down was a silent but deadly message to me that I should really be reading and studying.

Thankfully I didn't have a guardian as strict as these three students did.  Now given they all got F's, I guess they needed to be strict, but maybe strict boundaries or a tutor may have been more effective than the corporal punishment he seems to enjoy doling out...

Most of over the age of 30 remember getting spanked and running from the belt or the wooden spoon.  These students, though officially getting F's, are smart enough to know running away will only make things harder on themselves.  Hopefully, the spanking is the extent of their punishment, and they go on to have a fun summer.  Somehow.... I'm guessing not.  My prediction, the guy on the right gets a C- next year, his buddies to the left, another spanking.

Matty Lee: Towards Tokyo

Earlier this year, when choosing shots for Tom Daley's birthday post, my crush on Tom's current synchro diving partner began. Tom and 21 year old British diver Matty Lee partnered up last year and are expected to well at next year's Tokyo Olympics.

Although Matty's diving skills certainly warrant attention, I have to admit it was Matty's butt flash that first caught my attention.  Thanks to Tom Daley, who was with Matty in Turkey for a diving camp.  While Tom was video chatting, Matty joined in with walk by, and a quick flash that thankfully was shared.

'What is this Land America. So many travel there
I'm going now while I'm still young. My darling, meet me there
Wish me luck, my lovely. I'll send for you when I can
And we'll make our home in the American Land'
Bruce Springsteen

Of all the flags of the world, I don't think there's a more iconic, and memorable visual than the stars and stripes, and the red, white and blue on the American Flag.  Regardless of what the world thinks about who is in office, there remains a reverence and the country it represents.  Presidents change, (please soon!) but the flag remains a lasting, and colorful symbol of greatness.

I love the mix of Patriotic symbols with skin.  In part of course, because of my love of  holidays.  Also however, because there something very basic and carnal about most celebrations.  As many of us know and have experienced... most big parties, celebrations and holidays end with a bang.  It may be fire works, or it may be a more erotic way, to cap off the day.

HCHero

Over the last several years, Jim from Studio1xhas been providing the images, and supplying the skin, to help with all of the holidays and celebrations on FH.  If you checked out my Canada Day pieces, and read the words that accompanied Jim's images of Dan with the Canadian Flag, (HERE:) you'll know why we have not one, but a buffet of bodies adorned by the red, white and blue.

For last years, fourth of July celebration, Jim purchased an American Flag and shot the alluring Samajay, (The Grand Illusion) to celebrate the day.  As I did with Canada Day, I asked Jim if there might be a model or two who might pose with the flag for this years holiday.  Although it took awhile to get some models on board, as you can see, Jim hit the jackpot.

Thanks to Studio1x for helping to make another another amazing holiday for FH.  Thanks to Anon, HCHero, Joe and Riley for wrapping, and unwrapping yourself in the flag.

'Do not pray for easy lives, pray to be stronger men.'
John F. Kennedy

Strength, both physical and mental, is such an intrinsic part of American Pride.  No other country has as many iconic examples power and strength.  From movie and sport stars to superheroes, American is land of the free, but a land where freedom must be fought for.

Most of these iconic examples of strength are America's heroes, men and women who fight the good fight, vanquishing evil and championing those in need.  The nexus between strength and patriotism is a strong one, but it's about more than just physical strength and muscle mass.

Zade

So much of the respect and awe over build body is more about the journey than the destination.  If you look at almost any superhero, you know they didn't begin their lives spinning webs, wrapping bad guys in their golden lasso's or with the ability to jump tall buildings in a single bound.  These skills were taught and learned, they were hard fought skills that came from hours, days, and sometimes years of training.

I think that's why men and women of strength are so fascinating to many.  I know on FH, whenever I profile a bodybuilder or fitness model, most started their journey from a place of pain, and their desire to make changes, in their lives, in their bodies, and in how they are viewed, and most importantly, how they view themselves.

This past May, I profiled Tyler Berta, a contestant on the short lived CBS reality show Paradise Hotel. (HERE:) When I was looking for images, it wasn't a surprise to discover the beautifully built Berta had done some modeling.  When I noticed most of Tyler's shots were from PhotoRSH, I immediately got in touch.  We had already been communicating about a piece for FH, and the Illinois based photographer generally shared the results of his work with Tyler.

Troy

Before even finishing that piece, I was already looking to feature more of the artists work.  Although when I can I usually like to focus on one model or shoot, when PhotoRSH sent on portfolio's featuring a selection of model's that he's worked with, a theme began to emerge.  Not only were many of the models fitness focused, PhotoRSH shot many of them were shot in front of the American Flag.

The flag not only represents strength, it represents the pain and hard work it takes to achieve it. It also represents the hope that the countries strength and power will be used for good.  To protect, to provide safety, opportunity and a shelter from the storm to those in need.  The flag is an ideal background to showcase the strength, and the bodies, of the models standing proud in front of it.

Tom Cruise: Actors & SKIN

'Well, if she has to be naked, I’ll be naked, too'
Tom Cruise

Endless Love (1981)

Viewers got there first glimpse of Cruise skin in a brief, but rather forgettable scene in the 1981 Brooke Shields film Endless Love.   Around the same time, Cruise took a bigger part in the Timothy Hutton led Taps.  Hutton, fresh off his Oscar win for Ordinary People was a big star at the time, so Taps ended up being a great vehicle to help launch Cruise's career.

Taps (1981)

Tom had a shower scene in Taps, and although you saw a wee bit of butt crack, it wasn't exactly sexy given their were kids included in the scene.  It was however, his first official scene of movie skinning, so has to be included.  We saw a a little bit more crack more recently in two scenes of Tom mooning in 2017's American Made, but although he's often shirtless, Tom's pants have for the most part remained up and buckled since the 80's.

American Made (2017)

Far & Away (1992)

Although Tom showed very little in 1992's Far & Away, it was actually one of my favorite of Tom's nude scenes.  This was Tom's first film with then wife Nicole Kidman, his second, Eyes Wide Shut (1999), an erotic drama that although showed nudity, none of it from Tom, Far & Away was actually far more sexually stimulating for me.  Although we saw very little, just like Kidman's character Shannon, we were hungry for a peek behind the curtain and what was hiding under that glass washing bowl.

Jerry Maguire (1996)

I loved Jerry Maguire, and Tom was at his most romantic.  I wasn't a fan of the black briefs, but there was a quick or you'll miss it, dark, but memorable butt shot.

Risky Business (1983)

One of Tom's most popular movies, Risky Business (1983) is actually one of my least favorites of Tom's early films.  He does have a lightening fast butt scene on the stairs, but hardly worth stopping and pausing.  More pause worthy, even more so than his underwear dance, was his early morning tighty whity scene (above) in his bedroom.

All The Right Moves (1983)

Tom's only frontal was in 1983's All the Right Moves, and as you can read below, we have actress Lea Thompson to thank.  We can sadly though, also thank her for the film having just one, not two possible views of Tom's tuckus.

When Cruise heard Thompson didn’t want to be nude multiple times in the film, he took matters into his own hands and spoke to the producers himself. “Tom managed to talk them out of one of the [nude] scenes,” Thompson said. The remaining nude scene required Thompson to appear topless. Cruise stood up for the actress again when he told producers he would also go naked if Thompson was required to do the same. “In the second, he said, ‘Well, if she has to be naked, I’ll be naked, too,’” Thompson said. “That’s pretty badass! I’ve always been grateful to him for standing up to the producers.”

Tom Cruise: ACTORS & Skin

Tom Cruise has got his fair share of grief over the years, including from me.  But I can't think of Cruise without thinking about what an impact he had on my sexual awakening.  Except for taking my nephew to Edge of Tomorrow, (2014) and going on a date to see War of the Worlds, (2005) I stopped getting excited over, or even watching  a Cruise movie since the late 1990's.

I remember however, seeing Top Gun at the theatre when I was just a kid.  Even though I would have only been around ten or eleven, the volleyball scene, (Playing With the Boys) and Tom in his tighy whities left their mark.  A few year later, when I was a little older, I replayed scenes from Top Gun over and over on our VCR.  That was of course, until I saw some of his older movies, including All The Right Moves.

Through much of my late teens, it was herb Ritt's images of Cruise, playing in the ocean in his wet undershirt and jeans that sparked many a masturbatory fantasy.  I was always on the beach on a towel watching and of course the soaking wet Cruise headed my way and... well, you know.  It wasn't just  his body it was that face, especially in profile, I loved Tom's nose and in my mind, it played a big part in his appeal.

Tom by Herb Ritts

As I got older, and Tom got older, my crush certainly dissipated.  I still enjoyed his movies, especially A Few God Men, Interview With The Vampire and Jerry Maguire, but between the rumors about his marriages, the Scientology, jumping on Oprah's couch and his comments on mental illness, the bloom certainly came off the rose.

In hindsight however, I think I was a bit unfair.  For a time, Cruise was the movies biggest movie star, and whatever was going on in his personal life had to be full of unimaginable stress and pressure.  I also tend to think many of those drawn to religions such as Scientology do so out of pain, and deep sense of longing to belong.  Tom has also always come across as a kind man, of course I don't know, but if anything, off screen, he leaned more towards the boring than the controversial.

Top Gun (1986)

I'm glad I watched Born on the Forth of July, Tom put in a great performance, one of his best.  It also reignited what it was that I first attracted me when I was a kid  As.Ron Kovic. the paralyzed in the Vietnam war vet, Tom powerfully shows the range of emotions of a man who fought for his country, yet a man who feels betrayed by the country he fought for.

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

There was a nude scene in the film, a brief shot of Tom's butt, and some patients in the hospital.  I added them here, and not in the SKIN part of the post below.  The scenes aren't meant to titillate, Tom and the other patients are being cleaned, and cleaned out, and more a part of painting the picture of the time and the circumstance.  Check out all of the rest of Tom's nude scenes in PART 2 below.

If you search 'Captain America' on FH, you'll see several depictions of the Marvel superhero.  One of the most popular Caption I featured however, has to Noah, (above) be the painted superhero from the Fremont Solstice Parade. (HERE:)  Noah wasn't the only hot hero to strip down and have his stars and stripes painted on.  I couldn't think of a better day than today to feature a few more, and if you scroll down, a little bit more of Noah, this time, in action, roller skating by.

'This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in.'
Theodore Roosevelt

Last year on the fourth of July, I presented a series of powerful images of  Sergey from photographer Richard Rothstien.  The images presented Sergey, an immigrant, a gay man, a drag queen showing his pride in pursuing his own personal American Dream.  The images represented the colorful sparkle that lives inside each and everyone.  America the beautiful, my America, standing for that which is great about America: freedom, human rights, human dignity, diversity, inclusion and equality.

Sergey's American dream continues and last month, he spread his wings at a special Pride celebration event at TherapyNYC.  Pride of country has to goes hand in hand with pride in self, and a country that doesn't open it's arms to everyone, as we currently see, is only at half flight.  Sergey's wings however remain in full horaltic pose and like the eagle that soars, the phoenix that rises, the wings represent the hope and the power that goes hand in hand with being who you are and living your dreams, American or otherwise, to the fullest.

'I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream.'
Van Gogh

With most holidays, our views and experience of the day change and evolve as we age. As kids, Christmas, Halloween, the 4th, are rooted in magic, bright lights and dazzling colors. Worry free days full of running, dancing and fun and games.  For most of us, they were also rooted in art.  Most of us, were privileged with having art classes when in school.  This meant that holiday's involved creating colorful cards, ruby red Valentines, construction paper orange pumpkins, and glued on cotton ball beards for Santa.

The Forth of July occurs when most of us were on summer vacation, but if we had been in art class, the teacher would have pulled out the roll of brown art paper, cut a long piece to cover one side of the classroom, taped it to the wall, and asked the class to fill the paper banner with hundreds of red, white and blue hand prints.

As adults, we worry about getting paint on the floor and furniture. We'd rather buy a Valentine at the dollar store instead of making one.  Cotton balls, well, they're now reserved for taking off make-up, or cleaning a cut, they're no longer an element for creating a beard for Saint Nicholas.  For Tom Nakielski, (Lights On Studio) the goal going into his Forth of July shoot was about having fun.  Returning to that child like innocence isn't as easy as it may appear.

There's a reason you don't see grown men and women skipping through fields of wild flowers.  More than likely, someone would call the police. We're told to remember the magic, but we're not really encouraged to act on it.  That is unless you're an artist.  Artists and models get to return to forth grade art classes every time they pic up a camera, a paint brush or take on a character for a shoot.  They get to focus on creating, on color, on movement.  They get to use a muscle so many adults ignore and no longer use, their imagination.

For Kay, who many FH readers met last year with his work with The Third Eye, (Beyond the Obvious) painting Tom's walls with the red, white and blue was all about having fun.  When Tom first explained his Forth of July concept, Kay wasn't initially sure what to think, but it all sounded like so much fun, he could't resist the challenge.

'This was a bit of a different shoot for me, both in general, and in terms of my work with Tom. I've pretty much just done studio shoots, usually pretty formal stuff, so getting silly outside with the paint & with a specific theme was a nice change of pace! I'd like to keep branching out and trying new things, when I get the chance to. The cleanup from the painting was a bit of a mess, though thankfully, it was all washable!'

The session materialize for Tom when Kay let him know he'd be in Lansing from Chicago to do some personal business.  Tom knew it was a good opportunity, and the perfect timing, to do a 4th of July shoot.  Tom's studio is an old factory/warehouse.  There is a loading dock in the back that Tom had previously used for high school seniors to spray paint and add graffiti to the walls.  Tom wanted to do something a little different, so had the idea of having Kay put his artistic skills to use.  Naked of course!

'I suggested to Kay that we paint it red, white, and blue using his hands as the paintbrush. A new adventure for both of us. He said he would try it although he wasn't sure just how well he would do. He had never done any graffiti before. But I was sure no matter what resulted, it would work out just fine and be fun. Kay is artistic himself, and we mentally regressed to a 1st-grade attitude and played with the poster paint. The result was no Picasso or Rembrandt. Perhaps a cross between Warhol and a 1st graders finger painting. It was pure fun.'

A true story of innocence lost
and courage found

Every holiday, I try to find a movie, especially one with a hot male lead, to feature on the day.  I had never seen 1989's Born on the Forth of July until a couple of weeks ago. At the time, I wasn't in to war movies, (which it really isn't) and although it's played on some of the old movie channels, my desire to watch Tom Cruise flicks is not longer what it once was.

I'm glad I DVR'd and watched, especially given today's holiday.  I haven't watched a Cruise movie in quite awhile and he really impressed me in the role.  It took me back to why I once lusted after the man so deeply when I was a kid. It inspired me to re-think by Cruise bias, and also inspired not only a holiday post, but a new edition of the FH series, ACTORS& SKIN.  Check out both on the next page.
