'To me, redneck is a sense of self and a way of life.'
Gretchen Wilson
Redneck is most often used as an insult. A derogatory term to describe someone, most often white, and generally not seen as not overly intellectual, who lives or comes from a rural area. My definition is a fairly positive description... but, as we all know, whenever a negative label is given for a group of people, it is usually used to belittle and demean the group on question. If that wasn't the intent, there wouldn't be a need to label them.
Gretchen Wilson however, and maybe even more so, comedian Jeff Foxworthy, have taken back the word, I love how Wilson especially, have used it to describe a spirit, a way of life free from some of the formalities so many of us let weigh down our lives. Besides, there's a certain orange neck, and orange headed buffoon that has proved that humanity and intelligence is lacking in many urban and big city dwellers.
I was thrilled to discover the work of photographer Jude Cooper last month, and first featured his work in July with the blonde and beautiful Kaden. (Down The Rabbit Hole) I am equally pleased that Jude was also supportive of my sharing some of his shots of Hunter.
Hunter was a Navy sailor and Jude describes himself as lucky to have been able to shoot Hunter several times while he was in port. I guess my perception sort of stereotypes as well, but I love the dichotomy of the military men Jude has taken off the base to shoot and share.
Up until the last few years, the military has been seen by many as homophobic, and often for very good reasons. Thankfully, changes are happening and things, (like this sailor's homecoming) are occurring that no one would have thought possible just a few years ago.
I don't think it matters if you're from the city or the country in order to appreciate Hunter's many qualities and assets. Hunter is a country boy on the outside, and the inside. If you need any proof, just note that Jude managed to get every stitch of clothing off his incredibly hot body, except his hat... and his boots.
