Vincent Spano in Creator (1985)

$

Creator (1985)
Director: Ivan Passer
Cast: Peter O'Toole, Vincent Spano
Virginia Madsen, Mariel Hemingway
& David Ogden Stiers

In 1985's Creator, Vincent Spano plays Boris Lafkin, a struggling pre-med student hired by Harry Wolper (Peter O'Toole) as his personal assistant. Wolper is obsessed with making a cone of his wife who died in childbirth 30 years earlier. In addition to acting as a mentor for Boris with science, he also gives Boris advice in wooing the lovely Barbara. (Virginia Madsen)

I think the then 23 year old Spano was at his most adorable in Creator. Now this 1985 comedy wouldn't be at the top of my list of favorite Spano flicks, but there is a reason it gets it's own blog entry. Although Spano has had his fair share of steamy love scenes and shirtless moments on film, I believe this to be the only film which contain 'sort of' nude scenes.

I say 'sort of' as both are quick and a bit obscured. Spano's first skin scene in the film is during a steamy shower scene with David Ogden Stiers. Yes I know, steamy shower along with David Ogden Stiers aren't exactly words you expect to see in the same sentence... I say steamy as although Spano walks back, then forth naked during the scene, there is so much steam you really don't get the best view.

Spano's second flash of his adorable bottom is a quick, but hot scene, with Virginia Madsen yanking off his towel after Spano's shower. Again, a quick scene, and not a full view, but given this film seems to be the only opportunity for a view, seemed worthy of a few caps.

The image I mentioned in the above post is the photo above of a 17 year old Spano, along with Lisa Whelchel his co-star in the 1979 film The Double McGuffin. During much of the 80's, Spano was a fixture and pin-up sensation in teen mags. Spano worked steadily through the 80's highlighted by his role in the 1983 Francis Ford Coppola directed adaptation of S.E. Hinton's novel Rumble Fish. Here is a look at Spano from this time period.

Some Spano pin-ups!

Vincent Spano: An Indian Summer

Over the years, every once in a while I devote an entire day's postings to one actor. Normally... it is not just because the actor is a favorite of mine. Usually, it is a combination of factors that come together to inspire me to do more than one blog piece. This is the case with today's tribute to actor Vincent Spano.

I have always thought Spano to be a incredibly sexy and talented actor. But... up until this past summer my crush was more about his looks than his work. My memories of Spano growing up were more about his pin-ups and photos in teen magazine during the late 80's and early 90's than any particular role, movie or television show. But then came the last gasp of summer.

When I was putting together my week plus long theme, Last Gasp of Summer, one of the days was devoted to summer camp. As part of my research for this piece, I watched a few of my favorite, and a few new, summer camp movies. I watched several summer camp themed movies but ultimately decided to focus on Matt Dillon in Little Darlings and the endlessly fascinating and disturbing Sleepaway Camp. But... I could not get one of the movies I watched for the theme out of my head.

The 1993 flick Indian Summer was a movie I rented back in the 90's and ended up fast forwarding through. I was in my early twenties at the time, and the story of adults going back to the camp that made such an impact on them didn't really resonate with me at the time. Watching the film again now had so much for meaning for me now, especially given the time I spent myself at summer camp, as both a camper, and a counsellor.

I couldn't take my eyes off Vincent Spano when I watched again. Bill Paxton was the male lead, but Spano and his character, was the most interesting to me. Spano was also so damned hot and appealing. I made a not to do a piece on Spano and the film in my 'story idea' folder but didn't go back to it until late September. One day in late September or early October I was flicking through twitter and stopped when seeing an image (see in post below) of a 17 year old Spano in a photo with one of his early co-stars Lisa Whelchel from The Facts Of Life.

The images brought back memories of the Spano I grew up seeing in teen magazines and movies and I began to save some images for a post I planned for his October 18th Birthday. When I went into that folder last week I found there were dozens of images, too many for just a birthday post. In addition, I got my hands on some of Spano's films, including his one and only brief nude scene, in the mid 80's comedy Creator.

So.. that brings us to today. A bit late for an actual Indian Summer, but still a blast heat stemming from my Last Gasp Of Summer themed. I hope fans of Spano enjoy this look back and I hope readers not familiar with his work might check out one of his films. Spano is a gifted actor who has been working on television an in film since the late 70's and is still steadily working, and still looking mighty fine, today. If you're as enamoured of Spano as I am, check out his official website for more images and info HERE:

The Power of Persuasion: Dusty by Male Model Photography

'Besides being a hottie, Dusty is as sweet and charming as he looks. I'd jump at the opportunity to shoot with him again.'

Most readers of FH know how much I like story. When I see an image I love I am always curious how things all came together and how the photographer and model came to connect. Since first featuring the work of Florida's Male Model Photography last year I have been impressed by the incredible models MMP's Hugh manages to discover and shoot. Hugh has a great eye for finding models who shine in front of the camera. and after gazing into Dusty's captivating blue eyes, I can see clearly why Hugh wanted him in front of his lens.

The last time I featured Hugh's work, (Knock Out) I featured his work with the dreamy anesthesiologist Mike. This time Hugh didn't need to head to the hospital to find a model, instead he came upon Dusty by accident. Hugh and family walked into a gourmet pet food/gift shop where Dusty was working. When Dusty stepped out from the back room, Hugh found himself distracted by 'this beautiful young man in a gray woolen cap, with gorgeous blue eyes.' Hugh wasn't able to reach out to Dusty at that moment, but couldn't get the thought of shooting him out of his mind.

Luckily, Hugh found Dusty on-line a few months later and reached out. Hugh shares that it took awhile to convince Dusty that he was photo-worthy and it took all of Hugh's power of persuasion to get him to agree to a shoot. Hugh lives on a beautiful lush golf course in Florida and that's where they began shooting. 'Being outdoors, the green foliage and sunlight helped to highlight those steely-blue eyes. The other most eye-catching feature, his gorgeous curly hair, had a life of its own. Even when blowing in the wind, it always seemed just perfect for the shot.'

'We moved indoors to my living room; by now he was comfortable with me and the camera, and we did some nice shots on the couch and around the house. I particularly love the shirtless shot of Dusty sitting on the desk near the window holding an open book. At that point, I wasn't very skilled with using natural light indoors, but I'm very happy with the result.'

Since he began shooting the male form five years ago, Hugh considers himself fortunate to have found and worked with so many extremely good looking men. 'Dusty has an impish smile, but comes across as definitely sexy when he believes it himself and lets his guard down.' Although his first professional shoot, Dusty became more comfortable as the shoot went on three months after the first shoot, Dusty returned for a second shoot this time around the pool. Dusty have grown a bit of facial hair which Hugh says gave him a more adult look and really upped the wow-factor.

Dusty's lean and sexy physique comes from being a dancer most of his life but says despite his dance experience, modeling wasn't something that came easy for him. Dusty credits Hugh with creating a comfortable atmosphere that was both welcoming and judgement free. Dusty was also impressed with how respectful Hugh was about his hesitation and boundaries and is happy with the great shots they were able to achieve.

'I've seen a lot of amazing nude models.. but myself...I wasn't comfortable in my body. Hugh made me feel like I was an Abercrombie model during the shoot. I loved the shoot. I gained a ton of confidence from it and would totally do something similar again.'

Danny Hassel as Dan Jordan
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989)
Craven Connection: Writer (Characters)

After the success of the original Nightmare, sequels followed coming out almost yearly. In the tradition of many horror franchises, often a popular actor who survives one movie, returns briefly for the next one, only to quickly die. This was the case of actor Danny Hassel who played Dan Jordan in Nightmare #4, then returned only to be killed early in #5.

Although the Nightmare movies didn't continue the skin shared in #2, they did manage to get the adorable Hassel shirtless, although briefly in his two appearances. Danny Hassel went on to appear on several television shows in the 80's and 90's until disappearing from public life. After September 11, Hassel enlisted in the U.S. Army. When his Platoon learned of his past in show business, Danny was given the nickname of Hollywood Hassel. Danny still likes the limelight and often hits the stages in Seattle playing bass in his band Victrola.

I saw a brief clip on the news about a calendar featuring the husbands and partners of memebers of the Women's Institute in Worcestershire. The image they used was Mr. September, shown in the third image below. I loved the hot swagger of Mr September Peter Dawson and had to check out more of the calendar.

A group of Women's Institute members have convinced their husbands and boyfriends to bare all for charity in a new cheeky calendar. The men agreed to strip off at the behest of their nearest and dearest in the Women's Institute's local Upton-upon-Severn branch - aptly named the Hot Peppers - in Worcestershire. Gemma Dewson, branch member and photographer, said convincing their partners was easy in most cases although some required more persistence - and a little alcohol.

Halloween Week: The Debauchery Dungeon by Carl Proctor Photos

'When I finally arrived, I didn't know what to focus my camera on first. Row after row of naked men in cages, some I knew, some I had worked with before. I was torn, did I open unlock the doors or capture the moment. My decision as you can see was to shoot. I am an artist!  I am still haunted by the cries and moans of the dozens upon dozens of models we didn't free... and couldn't save'

In the world of male modeling, there are many secrets, strange occurrences and mysteries. Male models must learn lessons ranging from manscaping though how to bob and weave around lascivious casting agents. Models must decide whether want to be the next David Gandy or the the next Nick Gruber and learn that even if you label yourself a 'fitness' model, people will still want to see your junk.

One of the biggest mysteries however also remains the one most male models are terrified to talk about. Many think it, but few dare to ask exactly why so many male models seem to just disappear, never to be heard from again. You know what I mean. You know their names, the models who are on every site, every blog for a few weeks or months. The models who shoot with all the big photographers of the male form. The models who start out doing fashion, then move to underwear and nudes and finally... you guessed it, fitness.

The list is endless, you remember them, Godfre, Ayler, Austad, Fusco and so so many more. Many fans assume they succeed with their dj ambitions or ended up with office jobs putting their nude shoots in the rear view mirror. Some in the industry however... know the truth.

In huge Victorian mansion, at the end of a deserted country road, in a remote town, just a few hours north of New York city... he lives. They call him the Stud Collector, but his real identity might never be revealed in the light of day. Several hundred feet below the the ground, under the mansion is where the Dungeon sits. Starting back in the late 70's, he began his collecting. Every three or four months a new stud is added to the stable, most.. never heard from again.

But last months, there was finally a break in the case. Model, fitness model, and actor Johhny V went missing this past April, and like most of the models before him, the tell tale signs were there. His Model Mayhem page was quietly deleted and the updates on his Instagram came to a sudden, and terrifying halt. Johnny bided his time... He didn't let the leather, chains and torture wheel bring him down. From his small cage he could see it, close yet so far away. In the pile of pants in the corner, in the left hand back pocket of his jeans his cell phone sat. He had it turned off and prayed the batteries wouldn't fail him. Johnny planned it well, and finally, in mid September, the night arrived. Johnny knew his captor would be busy for at least an hour with the season finale of Dating Naked. His captors pattern was to make his way through a box o fFrench Rabbit Pinot Noir and then usually passed out before the end of the hour.

Johnny had learned how to use his powerful buttocks to shove tightly up against the door to ensure it didn't completely completely lock. He had his plan; Get to the cell phone, call 911 and get the hell out of there. When the night finally arrived, Johnny moved into action. He quietly opened the door with his butt and headed towards his pants. The phone was there and when he pressed the button and saw the bars start to flicker, he breathed a huge sigh of relieve. What Johnny didn't know however was there had been a barn fire earlier in the evening and given how small the town that he was trapped in was, 911 was busy. Johnny began pressing his contact list buttons until finally, at #9, someone answered.

Luckily for Johnny, Carl Proctor was in New York shooting and after hearing his plight, grabbed his camera and followed Johnny's cell phone GPS to the mansion. When Carl burst into the room the rest of the models screamed cries of joy, Pizzaro and J Dominic began to weep. Carl Proctor was no fool though, before opening the cages, he began to shoot and had Johnny re-enact the last few months of living in the dungeon. Before Carl had finished however, the Stud Collector was waking up and Carl and Johnny bolted, with the plan to call the police to return and rescue the rest of Collector's captives.

When the police finally arrived at the mansion a few hours later it was too late. The dungeon was empty... all that was left were piles of empty protein powder packages and a few pairs of Andrew Christian undies strewn on the floor. The Stud Collector was fast. He knew this could happen and had a team ready to move his menagerie to another location, in another small town in another State. He managed to have all the cages quickly moved, even the empty double sized cage, the collector was getting ready for the Carlson Twins. Johnny will never forget his harrowing ordeal and thanks to Carl, we finally now have visual documentation of the model mystery which most in the industry have been so quiet about...yet known for a very long time.

Brendan Fletcher as Mark Davis
Freddy Vs Jason (2003)
Craven Connection: Writer, Characters

The first time I saw Canadian actor Brendan Fraser it was as a street kid in Everyone, Fraser's character was causing a bit of trouble for a gay couple who were about to get married. Fraser was perfect in the role, he has a real quality, raw, edgy and totally sexy.

I 'half watched'Freddy Vs Jason a few years ago, the film, yet another attempt to squeeze a few more bucks out of not one, but now two horror franchises. The flick, mostly forgettable, but Fraser has a few good moments, including his hospital mooning scene shown below.

Henderson obviously loves Halloween given his many costumes!

I think however his 2003 costume from Leeches to be one of his best.  All you need is a white hand towel, grey boxer briefs and some rope.  Simple, quick and easy on the pocket book!

'Costumes don't have to be a way to hide — sometimes, they're extensions of who we are, a way to amplify our assets and flaunt our hidden talents.'

2 images above from Nark Magazine

Last Halloween, in my Costume Parade post I included an image of White Arrow. I didn't know who it was at the time, but made it a goal to rectify that for this year. A quick google search led me to the man behind the hood and mask, dancer and performer Tyler Rush.

Searching for images of Tyler proved a fun task as in the fetish community he is known as Pup Amp. Tyler has combined his loves of video games and superheroes turning his nerdy geek side into a erotic hero of fantasy for many. The dressing up, which started for anime conventions has turned to undressing at conventions and on dance floors for a totally different type of audience.

At one time during my Halloween post planning, I thought their would be a day devoted to Superheroes. They have always been a favorite for costume wearers for Halloween as well as any time a costume might be required. Superheroes personify why so many like to dress up, to be not only something we're not, but something we can never be. Of course we are capable of being heroic, but having super strength, super vision or hearing and the ability to fly through the oceans or air are things we can only dream about.

When going through the images of heroes I had saved, it was Robin who I continued to come back to. Maybe partly because he's a side-kick, not the main hero, the supportive man by his side. Robin first appeared in print back in the 40's and has been a consistent, yet not constant, part of the Batman legacy ever since.

Robin has been a support, a friend and has also saved the Cape Crusader in many of the Batman stories. To some, Robin has also been a love interest, and Homosexuality in the Batman franchise even has it's own Wikipedia page based on certain themes and double entendre's within what has often been a very campy franchise, especially the television series.

Chris O'Donnell

Early incarnations of Robin were played by actors Douglas Croft and Johnny Duncan, but the most well known Robin was played by Burt Ward in the 1966–1968 Batman television series. Chris O'Donnell played the sidekick along side both Val Kilmer as Batman in 1995's Batman Forever and with George Clooney as Batman in 1997's Batman & Robin. One of the most interesting Robin's too me was the most recent. I loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, an original interpretation of the character who appeared in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. I would love to see this version with Gordon-Levitt brought back to the screen.

I don't follow wrestling, but I do however follow great looking and talented men and the WWE's Stardust certainly fits that bill. I first came to know the wrestler when the character became involved in a 'storyline' which pitted him, and eventually brought him together with, Arrow's Stephen Amell.

Doing a little research on Stardust uncovered the man behind the make-up mask was long time WWE wrester Cody Rhodes. I had seen images of Cody before and as you can tell from these images he fills out his Stardust costume, and his wrestling tights in a way begging for more research and attention. Cody has been wrestling for close to 10 years now but only brought out the character of Stardust, (a ring name also previously used by his father, Dusty Rhodes) last year.

Rhodes has teamed with fellow wrestlers Chris Jericho and John Cena to promote Gillette Fusion products. With Rhodes great looks and personality, I think he may join Jericho and Cena to become part of a group of wrestlers who become famous to the mainstream gaining fans beyond the ring.

'Halloween is also of course about disguise. Costumes, make-up and especially masks. They not only frighten, cover and trick, they also maybe more importantly, empower and protect. By protecting the identity of the underneath, the person behind the mask is free to act in a way, and to do many things, that without the mask ....would be truly terrifying.'
