Cemented Shadows: Tony by JRChristiansenStudio

'I think the human body is beautiful and if presented in an artistic way, there’s nothing wrong with it. I have posed nude I think you only live once and you shouldn’t feel ashamed of being nude as long as it’s tasteful.'

In every profession you'll  find prodigies.  Individuals new to a field who excel from the beginning. Although I have featured many models and photographers new to photography and the male form, there is something immediately exceptional when viewing the work of two seasoned professionals at work.

JR Christiansen has been shooting since he was a kid, beginning with black and whites before transitioning on to digital.  JR has an incredible eye for light and shadow and I especially love how he captures and blends the pliability of the human body with the resistance and constraints of cement, windows and wall of brick. JR's mages also inspired one of my favorite FH pieces to write, Cornered.

If there's a model, and a body, perfectly matched in strength and force of brick and cement that surrounds him, it's Tony.  Tony, Anthony Cantanzaro, has been modeling for over 20 years and worked with many well known artists who capture the male form.

Anthony has the distinction of not only appearing in Playgirl Magazine twice, but almost 12 years apart over two separate decades.  His first appearance was back in January 2001, followed by a large spread in the magazines 2013 Spring issue.  You can check out a sampling of Tony's two appearances on The Over-FlowHERE:

I love this series of Tony by JR.  Both model and artist know exactly what they're doing and Tony has perfected his intense and sultry look.  JR beautifully captures Tony's personality, experience and incredibly impressive physique.  I especially love the last few shots of Tony wearing nothing but his tight sweater.  The blue material actually serves to highlight and define Tony's body and is useless to hide the muscles below.

Coming This Fall...

From the writer and directors of "Crazy, Stupid, Love," this refreshingly honest and provocative new series about a group of people born on the same day, including a married couple expecting triplets in Pittsburgh and a handsome television actor growing bored of his fly bachelor lifestyle.

I could have called this post Promos for Homos, and if you watch, you'll know what I mean. Not sure if Milo Ventimiglia's butt will make the final NBC broadcast, but This Is Us, with a Naked Milo, and a shirtless Justin Hartley certainly have me already awaiting autumn.

The Goonies was one of my favorite childhood movies was without a doubt The Goonies. (1985) A few years ago on FH, I did a piece featuring some of my crushes from the film.  (It's Good Enough For Me...)  I remember crushing over Sean Astin, and especially Josh Brolin the mulitple times I headed to the theatre to catch the flick.

There was definitely a hunk from the film I originally overlooked, when watching the film, and when doing that earlier post.  I will cut myself a little bit of slack as he was buried under a ton of make-up. Many of you might have known, but Sloth was played by football player turned actor John Matuszak John spent the biggest part of his career playing for the Oakland Raiders and played in 2 Superbowls.

Upon retiring from Football, Matuszak turned to acting, as well as an appearance in Playgirl Magazine in 1982.  I will not be able to watch The Goonies any more without now thinking what a hunk Sloth is under his superman t shirt and make-up.  Sadly, Matuszak died in 1989 from an accidental overdose after a long, and public battle with prescription drugs. Sort of curious now to check out the actor's biography, Cruisin' with the Tooz, which was published in 1987.

Déjà Vu?

Well, maybe not quite...  The first time I discovered the work of Ian from macpics, I was enamoured by his images of 22 year old model Vu. Vu's beauty, soulful eyes, not to mention his incredibly sexy body, created a pleasing and memorable impression.

I quickly asked Ian about featuring Vu, and he offered his full support.  I began working on the piece right away. Before finishing, Ian and decided to start with another model, and I thought I would follow-up with Vu a few weeks later.  Problem was, because I had already mapped out the piece, each time I began another piece featuring Ian's work, I mistakenly kept thinking I had already posted the Melbourne photographers work with the exquisitely sensual Vu.

I don't often have the opportunity to feature Vietnamese models, especially one who photographs as beautifully as Vu.  Ian describes him as great to work with, but very quiet and a little bit shy. Ian remembers  that Vu had a wonderful smile.  Vu wasn't as confident as Ian was about his smile, and preferred to keep his lips together, and mouth closed for the majority of the images.

David Girton was not on Big Brother 15 for long, but long enough to have many people really love, or really dislike him.  It has been three years since David was on the CBS reality show, but he still uses his social media sites to make the most of his 15 minutes.

After his notoriety began to wane, the West Coast surfer began posting nudes on his twitter, lots of them.  Mostly butt shots to begin with, but when people began to take notice, frontals and erection shots followed,  Although currently his twitter is pretty much frontal free, it is still somewhere I like to check out now and then.

I don't check it out just for the nudity, a google search will show you much more.  I check it out as I think Girton is quite a talented and creative model.  Some of his shots are edging toward artistic, and all have the California surfer vibe embedded within.

Although he came off as 'goofy' on TV, if you can put that aside, there is a soulfulness, even a bit of sadness within some of his images.   We all know how difficult it is for young people to achieve job and success today.  It is why so many flock to reality TV and social media.

When Griton's time on Big Brother ended, he used his best asset, his surfer boy persona and appeal, and his surfer by body, to keep people interested.  Once he showed it all, and often, most of his 'fans' moved on to the next guy, a newer reality contestant exposing himself to maintain even the smallest degree of fame.

There is something about Griton that keeps me checking him out thought, I believe there's an artist in there somewhere.  Although David has a great body, I would be interested to see if ever turns the lens on another.  David loves women, but he is also mildly obsessed with gay men and keeping their interest. I think he could capture either well if chose it as a focus.

Water Dance: Francesco by AANE Photography/THOM Graphophoton

'In the future, if I shoot in a bathroom, I will make sure, I keep dry and keep the heat on full blast.'

Earlier this month, I featured AANE Photography's incredible images of dancer and model Francesco. (Ballerino) My focus for that piece was the first half of Francesco's shoot with AANE Photography and THOM Graphophoton.

I ended that piece with a promise to also feature the second half of the shoot, stepping into the shower along with Francesco.  I love the 22 year old Italian model's smouldering and sexy look and his incredibly toned body and beautifully curved and beautifully shaped buttocks.

When your shooting a model in a shower, you might expect to get a few drops of water on you.   For this shoot however, Mike ended up not only getting drenched, but subsequently getting quite ill. In order to get the shots he wanted, Mike needed the shower door to remain open.  With the door wide open, the water ended up pouring out onto the floor and all over photographer busily snapping away.

For Francesco, getting naked and soaking wet wasn't an issue.  he was prepared and able to dry off and put back on his clean and dry clothes.  Not expecting to get wet, and without a dry change of clothes to change into, Mike remained in his wet clothes until he was able to dry off and clean up much later in the day.

Mike ended up missing out on much of his planned activities in New York, as well as a trip to Dallas he was scheduled to take.  Getting sick however, ended up being sort of transformational, and in addition to getting some greats shots of Francesco, ended up creating a positive change for Mike.

'As it turns out, my sickness led to a cascade of cancellations, culminating in my eventual leaving on my old job for my new one. It was time to get off the road, so I wasn't unhappy. I still am trying to figure out my new job, and if I will be comfortable there, but I can safely say that Francesco helped me do something I had been meaning and wanting to do for about three years.'

Only One Way A Dogfight Ends:  May 6th, 2016

I had not heard of the television show Banshee until seeing some shots of actor Chris Coy from a recent episode.  The show is on Cinemax, a network I don't get.  I did however... realize I can watch it on my On Demand, so will have to catch up given the drama is now in it's 4th season.

I was a fan however, of the incredibly sexy Coy who I watched on Treme and as Barry on True Blood. Even covered in fake blood and fake tats, (after just having committed and incredibly violent act), Coy was still hot has hell walking into the bedroom...

POTD

There might be a few FH readers still kicking around who remember how it started. I had been collecting images that I liked for awhile in folders and was looking for a way to save them on-line. I wasn't really looking to start a site, certainly not something that would take much time. I had lost images before when my computer crashed or died and I just wanted a place to store my favorite images.

After looking around the net, I decided that the easiest place to quickly upload and keep my images safe was to put them in Yahoo Groups. Yahoo Groups, before the start of Facebook, Tumblr and Pinterest, was the place to be. Without even trying, I started having people join my group, a lot of them. Soon, I had a dozen or so groups, separated by categories such as Male Models, Playgirl Men, Sports Guys and Butt shots. I didn't know it at the time, but these categories would eventually find themselves on FH the blog.

The groups, most of them, are still there I think. Sadly, I don't have access any longer, attempts at retrieving my passwords was unsuccessful, and most have been overtaken with spam porn and links. FH the blog, the original version, was not supposed to be about naked men, art and photography.  It was started as sort of an on-line diary, my life, my loves and a big dose of entertainment and media.

Within a few weeks, I regretted some of the stories, and deleted most of the first few stories and replaced them with images from the Yahoo Groups.  That's when things really got started.  The format was crude at first, I posted any time of the day I wanted to, sometimes 1 or 2 posts a day, sometimes 12 or more.  I didn't start the current format of 5 blog pieces in a magazine format until 2009 or 2010.

The two current FH features that were there from the start were birthdays, and pic of the day. The POTD was to set the tone and a way to grab attention.  Eventually, it became the cover, of what I consider the magazine format FH is today.  The images featured here are some of the first images I used in the fall of 2007 as POTD.  Most came from the yahoo group, and as you can see, most are young guys, frat jokes and tons and tons of butts.

Back in 2007, there wasn't a google images search, so finding proper credit wasn't as easy as it is today. I eventually started connecting the POTD to the blogs main feature or story each day and choosing the image became my favorite part of piecing together that day's postings.

If you look back on my POTD's, they are a photo album of some of the best models, photographers and artists of the male form.  I try to use the POTD as a way to have viewers want to see more.  I don't often use frontals as the POTD, but occasional like to throw one in to spice things up.

This fall, FH turns 10.  As it draws closer, I am going to look back on some of my favorite POTD's, this post, featuring images from 2007.  I love 'looking back' on FH, I think one of the things that makes it special, is that I don't just focus on men of the moment.  There are so many models and images that became super hot for about 10 seconds, then disappeared from everyone's site and pages.

FH is about what I love, both today, and in the past. FH's 10 year will of course be full of new and upcoming models and photographers, but I am also taking a look back, and hoping  viewers, and some of my favorite models and photographers, will join me along for the ride.

Propped: Ricardo by New Manhattan Studios

'The great bonus in working with Ricardo is that I can always count on his physique being even more impressive each time we shoot. We have worked together since early 2014 when the construction worker and part-time model was just 21. I can’t begin to imagine the number of hours this guy has spent in the gym since then. At 23, he’s sporting a massive, ripped physique.'

'To my surprise, I find that my interests are taking me toward physique art photography; at least this year. I suspect that working with the likes of Ricardo, Norm and Alex, three gym buddies who sport three of the best physiques to come through the studio, has a lot to do with it. Playing along the line between art and photography has long interested me, however.'

'But as I focus more and more of my time and efforts at crafting art out of bodies, increasingly I am coming to value a model’s torso above all other physical attributes. Capturing the evanescent light and shadows playing across the body is the essence of the art and having a subject with sufficient definition to cast a few shadows is increasingly a base requirement for me. The one physique model I can count on always to deliver the goods is Ricardo, the kid brother (and personal trainer) of our second cameraman and production assistant, Alex Corso.'

'The timing of Ricardo’s last shoot with us was very much determined by the schedule of snow birds. I have long had my eye on a metal sculpture that has appeared as a prop in the photos we’ve shot in the studio/office of a friend, David. The room the sculpture calls home is too confining to adequately showcase such a large prop in an art pose and for some time we have been looking for a chance to bring it into the studio. That finally happened in December, just days before its owner, a prominent Madison Avenue designer, retreated to Florida for the winter.'

'I wouldn’t think of borrowing such a large (and expensive) piece of art without having the owner present to supervise its transit and handling. We took advantage of having an extra set of hands in the studio that day and pressed David into service as our stylist (and model spritzer), freeing Ricardo’s older brother, Alex, to devote his full attention to the second camera.'

'Perhaps it’s a reflection of their native Colombian culture, but unlike the Italian brothers Luca and Matteo, Ricardo and Alex are a bit more reserved around each other. Alex steps out of the studio when his brother is posing nude. Given that dynamic, it’s worth noting that my favorite picture of the day was one of Alex's last shots, taken just as Ricardo's clothes were coming off.'

'Alex's picture of his kid brother inspired a series from the session that we’ve dubbed, It Was a Dark and Stormy Night. Alex wasn't around for the rest of the session, but you can find the full series in Captured Shadows #3, the studio’s quarterly physique art magazine. The images start to blur the line between art and photography and invite the viewer to spin a back story for the rain and flashing lights.'

~Behind The Scenes~

A special video presentation has been prepared for the readers of Favorite Hunks. In addition to dozens of additional images from his shoot, many take you behind the scenes at New Manhattan Studios. Other images from the day can be found in Ricardo’s gallery and in the Fine Art Gallery on the website.
