A Boy & his Toy: Yasu by PR PHOTO

'To cap off the shoot Yasu grabbed his skateboard once again and we got some killer shots of the boy and his toy relaxing on the couch.'
PR PHOTO

For Yasu's first nude shoot, PR decided shooting in Yasu's own apartment would be a great way to help with his comfort level, as well as add a personal element the shoot. They shot for an entire day, following Yasu through his morning rituals, getting up, brushing his teeth and shaving. Then showering and getting dressed and ready for work.

I love shoots which capture what we normally consider boring, routine parts of our day. The element of photographing these rituals adds a voyeuristic and incredibly erotic element to activities and quiet moments that we usually don't give much thought to.

It certainly doesn't hurt, when the subject doing those mundane daily rituals is as beautiful as Yasu. Yasu's body is incredible. Both lean as well as strong and well defined. I also love Yasu's eyes which exude both a subtle innocence, as well as intelligence. His sexy grin also seems to indicate Yasu enjoys showing off his body, and all of the hard work that went into building and maintaining his impressive physique.

'Working with Yasu over this 2 year period has been a great opportunity to get to know a model and watch him blossom into a professional. He's now a personal trainer and college graduate. It's been a real joy to see him progress from the first shoot to where he is today completely comfortable in front of any camera.'

A Formidable Force: Yasu by PR PHOTO

'When I saw Yasu walking toward me I was taken aback by how good looking he was and how built his body was. He is one of my all time favorite models, and he photographs beautifully'

After taking literally thousands of architectural and nature shots, in 2010, PR PHOTO turned his focus from buildings and plant forms towards a more arousing assemblage of of lines and curves, the male form. Life circumstances unfortunately led PR to put his camera away for a few years, but after a brief break, the Michigan based photographer restarted his photography career  in 2014. The stunning Yasu was the first model PR worked with after beginning to shoot again.

'I placed an ad in Craigslist for talented models and Yasu was the first to answer that ad. Since he lived in Lansing, the capital of Michigan, we decided to meet at the State House and shoot there. When I saw him walking toward me I was taken aback by how good looking he was and how built his body was. In person he is quite a formidable force with huge arms and a huge chest.'

'He wore a white button down oxford shirt and blue navy shorts. In no time his shirt was open to reveal a tanned and broad chest that contrasted nicely with the crisp white shirt. Our first shoot went well getting all sorts of physique shots around the State House as government officials went about their business.'

A few months later, they connected again and planned a second shoot, this time at a local park in Lansing. PR reports that Yasu showed up, looking as great as ever, this time bringing his along his skateboard. They began shooting in different areas of the park, but before too long were near the lake where it was the perfect time for Yasu to pick up his skateboard, and peel off his shirt.

'The light was perfect and Yasu's body glowed against the backdrop of the lake. Next were some action shots of Yasu skateboarding down the stairs followed by him climbing the walls of the park. We finished the shoot with some serene headshots in a wooded area.'

The images in this piece come from PR and Yasu's first two shoots, but, there was a third.... A few months after their second shoot, PR approached Yasu about doing a nude shoot for an online magazine. PR wasn't sure how Yasu would responded, given they hadn't really discussed nude work before, but much to his surprise, Yasu was fully into the idea.  Check out the results below!

Lawrence Portland: Smooth Sailing

First two shots by Torey Suarez

'The parts of my body that I would say get the most attention are my butt and my smile.'

Earlier this month, I introduced FH readers to model, actor, vegetarian and nudist Lawrence Portland. (Morning Smoothie) I first discovered Lawrence on his Instgram, and have been enjoying his images, his humour, and especially his videos. Lawrence's videos not only give viewers an close up view of his glorious backside, they also showcase Lawrence's personality as well as his desire to share some of his tips and secrets to keeping that amazing ass, and the rest of his body in tip top shape.

I only scratched the surface in that first piece, sharing a few selfies and one of his videos. Given his expansive modeling portfolio, not to mention his video work, I thought it would be interesting to go a bit deeper and learn more about the man behind those sultry dark eyes and the factors that help create the powerfully confident and sexual image we see in front of the camera. I was also curious about what boundaries or limits he may have in his work, and as you'll see, there aren't many!

Who or what got you started with modeling?

Manscapes.com. That is what sparked my love for male nude photography and my favorite model there was Derek Russo.

What has been your favorite experience modeling thus far?

My first ever shoot with Chicago based photographer Allan Spiers.

Any odd or strange stories from any shoots?

None yet so far...

Making steel cut oats for today! Good morning, everyone! #nakedman #nudeman #nakedmen #nudemen #nakedinthekitchen

A post shared by Lawrence Portland (@itslawport) on

What factors did you weigh before deciding to take it all off?

'The anticipation of the upcoming shoot. It can mount and mount to the point of backing out completely but once I was naked in front of the camera, I was very relaxed and everything was smooth sailing from then on.'

Shooting nudes, have you any strange offers or requests?

To pose while urinating. LOL

Which came first, being photographed naked, or your film work?

'Nude modeling and a few years later came adult films.'

Remaining Images from KJ Heath

Have you had to 'fake' pleasure when filming with someone you were not especially thrilled about?

'Not at all. I adore my past scene partners and the feelings were real.'

What, if any, are your limits, boundaries or loves when it comes to filming a scene?

'Limit: No water sports.
Boundaries: So far, nothing.
Loves: Kissing, rimming and getting rimmed. I'm a booty man.'
😉🍑

Your Instagram videos seem to really popular, why do you think your every day routines are so enjoyed by many?

'So they are able to find out my secrets to a healthy body, mind, and spirit with a nice view to go with it.'😉

'Why do you think you like modeling and scene work?

'It gives me a chance to be myself and portray different characters whether it's a still shot or a film and the more comfortable I am with my body, the more I am willing to show it off to others who enjoy things of that nature.'

What are the interesting questions or requests you get?

'How do you keep that butt in great shape?; and 'How is it that you are a vegetarian/vegan and look like that?!'

What's up next for you

'My scene from Lucas Entertainment with Billy Santoro is currently in post-production and if the next offer for a photo shoot or film sounds great, I am so there!'😊

Conor McGregor: May the Odds be ever in your Favour

Although most seem to to think the odds are on Floyd Mayweather, Irish professional mixed martial artist and professional boxer Conor McGregor is certainly the hands down favorite to many. Less than two years ago, the former Irish plumber talked his way into big-money showdown, McGregor finished the UFC featherweight champion in 13 seconds with one devastating left hand.

Those 13 seconds changed McGregor's life and the last year he rose to fame, including headlining this years ESPN Body Issue with a sweat inducing shoot including a bit of naked boxing and bag work. I was planning on a Conor post for awhile now, but Saturday's huge event let me know the time had come.

In the Air

It starts in mid-August. 'You can feel fall in the air.' Some, who love the heat, and dread fall and winter coming saying with annoyance. Those who love Autumn and who can't wait for Halloween say it excitement. If you're like me, and are firmly in the latter category, you're already thinking of costumes. (Scuba diver?) You may also be counting down the days, 68 btw. I know this, not by checking the calendar, but because I follow Spooky Queen on Twitter, who counts down the days, and fills her page with images, gifs, and clips which certainly helps get you in the spirit.

Too early for some I know, but never too early for others! If you're a photographer, artist or model with any Halloween imagery you may want to share, please, shoot me a line!

Tight Ship: Gabriel by New Manhattan Studios

Wes shooting Alex shooting Gabriel NMS

'Gabriel was one of those ships that pass in a very contemporary night. It was a pleasant and productive winter evening, to be sure, but a fleeting moment when Rio and New York City intersected. An international meeting, born of social media, manifesting itself in the studio.'

Generally, the expression 'Ships that pass in the Night' refers to a memorable, but fleeting, one time meeting. The truth however, is that we all pass many ships each and every day. The difference is, most of them are not really that significant. It's those ships we notice, those ships that cause us to pause, stop and take a second look that implant and linger in our psyche. The become the ships we remember, and the ships long to see on the horizon again.

For most artists, one of the most rewarding aspects of their work can be the creative connections made with the models they work with. Models who understand their vision, models able to flow with their concepts and ideas and at the time, shift and maneuver when the creative energy inevitably changes directions. This is why so many artists find a muse, a model they work with multiple times, a model whose work and image not only completes their creative impulses, but inspires them.

Regular FH readers are aware of the creative connections forged between NMS's Wes and many of his models. Wes' work with Alex and Bond is not only creatively rich, it is also work that has grown in both depth and scope over multiple shoots, over multiple years. As relationships deepen, and trust is established, concepts intensify, boundaries get pushed, and creativity beautifully expands. Bond and Alex aren't the only two models which inspire Wes, if you check out his pieces on FH (HERE:) or his on-line portfolio, you will see multiple appearances from models including Norm and Ricardo, two I have been fortunate to feature.

Then of course, are many models that are only shot once. Sometimes the single shoot is enough if there is no connection, or if the experience is one that neither party has a desire to repeat. Other times a second, third or forth shoot is not only wanted, but longed for, especially when the first shoot began a creative connection and produced work the artist would like to expand upon. Sometimes a revisit isn't possible due to schedule or circumstance. Sometimes, it location, especially if artist and model live in different states, countries or as in the case of Wes and Gabriel...different continents.

Their correspondence had begun when Gabriel, a Brazilian fitness model, and chef in training, was planning a trip to the United States. He wrote Wes to arrange for a physique portfolio session while in New York at the beginning of of his trip. A bit of a language barrier let to exchanges limited to the basics, scheduling, and questions about what type of images Gabriel wanted for his portfolio, fitness, implied or full nudes. Given they could not meet first, Wes had only been able to see a few images of Gabriel on-line. It was always a little risky to invest in a model you were not able to meet, not every images on-line is a reliable indication of a models current look and physical form. Wes however, says that Gabriel delivered which he shares in his comments on their shoot below.

'Fit and trim, he was an established model who was at home in the studio. The ambiguity of whether or not he would be posing nude was resolved shortly after we began shooting. He had signed up for implied and partial nudity. As he became comfortable with the work style of the studio it was a boundary that passed without comment and so naturally that I recognized it as a protective filter I've seen many models use: meet the photographer first.'

'Half way through the session we had met his portfolio needs and we continued with some art nude work that more than met the studio's needs. Or expectations. At the end of the evening, I promised to deliver to Gabriel the set of portfolio shots that had been the initial purpose of the session. Then I asked him to sign a model release and paid him the studio's modeling fee for an outstanding physique art session that generated images that will be appearing in upcoming issues of Captured Shadows.'

'Our real world missions fulfilled, the meeting ended and we reverted to our ongoing cyber relationship. It's almost enough to inspire faith in the Internet. Almost. As we prepared to open Gabriel's Gallery (henceforth known as Gabriel 3), we were curious as to how much time had lapsed since the session with our first Gabriel, the Venezuelan actor and model. Last we heard, Gabriel 3 was home in Brazil, working as a chef and Gabriel 1 had escaped the chaos and turmoil that has engulfed Venezuela and was living in a land famous for welcoming refugees, Canada.'

You can check out all three of the Gabriel's on NMS,s starting with Gabriel 3 by clicking HERE: But... that's not exactly the end of the voyage. Although Wes had assumed the passing ships were never to meet up again, it did indeed occur a second time. When Gabriel decided to vacation in the US this past summer during his break from school, they passed again, this time on a sunny Sunday in July, passing along the East River and the historic Brooklyn waterfront. Their new work will be appearing on the New Manhattan Studios website soon. In the meantime, additional shots from the winter shoot, featured here, can be found on Gabriel's page on NMSHERE:

Darryl Powers: Sixties Summer

'If someone thinks that peace and love are just a cliche that must have been left behind in the 60s, that's a problem. Peace and love are eternal.'
John Lennon

I sometimes wonder if someone stumbles upon a post in FH in the future will context matter? Will they just look at the model and see a vintage dated image. Will the naked man in the image, and artist behind it be considered in conjunction with changes in media, the ever changing progression of photography and the happenings of the time.

Will they consider that while that naked guy posed in front of camera, Trump was horrifying the nation with hate and division, Games of Thrones was the talk of TV, Carrie Fisher had died, Brad and Angelina were history, Prince Harry hadn't married yet and opioid crisis was only fraction of what it would eventually become...

One of the reasons I love looking back to images of the past is context. When Champion model Darryl Powers posed on the beach, it was during the decade that Kennedy was assassinated, The civil rights act of 64 was signed, The Vietnam war was in full swing, Rolling Stone Magazine hit the stands and Julie Andrew's The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins were both box office hits.

I first noticed Darryl when I was putting together a small piece a few years ago about some of my favorite Champion models. (Champions) Darryl had a great body, but it was his face that had me sticking away an extra image for a future post. The image I stuck away was the shot (2 above) of Darryl in the row boat.

Darryl rowing naked was hot, but it was the shape of his nose, and especially his beautiful lips that really struck me. I came upon that image again the other day, not in that long deleted folder, but on Pintrest. I was able to find quite a few more great shots of Darryl, most of them, taken on the beach. I wasn't however able to find out much about him.

I would guess that if alive, Darryl would be in his early to mid 70's and would love to know if the man, photographed naked on the beach when Kennedy was President, is still alive and kicking. I am guessing many of the Champion models did not use their real names, but would be curious if anyone knows more about Darryl and his life beyond the beach.

Christian Monik is one of my favorite models, and I have featured his images previously on FH. (HERE:) Christian has the most beautiful facial structure and I'm loving his longer hair. If they ever need a new Tarzan, Christian is also an actor, and would be perfect in the role. Also love Thor, Christian's husky that has been making quite a few appearances in his recent postings.

Before, During & After: Robbie by Studio1x

'We discussed the vision and I supported Robbie to move as he has been trained. This allowed us to capture the shots that we did.'

Even before Jim confirmed it, it was clear to me Robbie was a dancer. His long, lean frame creates such beautiful curves and lines, precise and elegantly natural. With some models, you can see the effort put into creating a quiet moment, but Robbie's poses seem instinctual. It is as if Robbie is standing in front of an invisible barre, doing the the warm up moves a dancer must do habitually to warm up and stretch.

I love the quiet beauty that Jim captured in this series. Although dance is rooted in energy and movement, these captured moments feel like those quiet times in between, when a dancer is alone with his thoughts, and his body. I often write when I am featuring a dancer, how they have the most fine tuned connection between their mind and body. Robbie confirms this theory, especially with the flow between his body body movements, his facial expressions, and the way his eyes create such a beautiful nexus between himself, Jim's camera and viewer.

I was introduced to Jim's work through photographer Daniel Allen. Both are from the Pacific North West, and have done several shoots together. When I recently contacted Daniel about one of his images I liked, he responded by suggesting I check out Jim's portfolio on Instagram. I shot a few names of models whose images I liked, but Jim had just finished his second shoot with Robbie the previous weekend and suggested that I take a look.

Jim shares that he's always had a camera and considered himself a photographer, but that it was only two years ago that he started taking his hobby seriously. Jim's decision to focus on the male form had a rather interesting beginning. Jim was actually going to pose nude himself, for a fundraiser, a charity calendar for breast cancer awareness. As he thought about the shoot, Jim began thinking how beautifully the male body could be photographed in such creative and artistic ways, and was eager to give it a try and bring his ideas to a shoot.

Jim's focus is on the creation of art, and although some assume any images of the nude male body are porn, Jim keeps it professional. Even when the vision may sound weird or funny when said out loud, the outcome is worth it. Jim encourages his models to relax and have fun, and he finds the best way to support this is through trust. If at any time they are feeling uncomfortable with pose or idea, Jim encourages them to let him know so he can change direction to ensure they are as satisfied creatively as he is with the process.

Even with a professional focus, deciding to shoot the naked male form doesn't always mean it's easy to find models when you're just starting out. Jim's first experience with nude shoot required finding a volunteer, and his model ended up being a male senior citizen with a multitude of health issues which made being able to follow through on his vision a challenge. Practice makes perfect however, and that first shoot began a journey and looking back, Jim can see visually how far his photography has come since shooting his first nude model.

'Every time when I shoot a model nude, it is a new experience. I always make sure that we have spoken in length, over a period of time, to build a connection and ensure that we have discussed all topics and any of his concerns. This builds the trust between the photographer and model and if all topics have been discussed prior, if anything does pop up during the shoot, we have already discussed that sometimes happens and we keep shooting. In shooting this type of art, the model is opening up their vulnerability and exposing themselves in a way that most males are not accustom too. I find that if I have not spoken to the model and built a connection with them, the finished product is not as visually pleasing.'

As stated, this studio shoot is the second time Jim has shot Robbie. After Robbie inquired about working together, they connected for the first shoot outdoors. The focus was on Robbie's love of dance and Jim wanted wanted to capture his body movements in a variety of surroundings. For their second shoot, Jim wanted to head into the studio.

'For the studio shoot, I wanted to focus on light, and how it plays off of Robbie's dancer build. We were able to create some wonderful shots using light and shadows. He is a very easy going model, that is very comfortable with his body and knows how to move with very little direction.'

Jim sent on almost 200 shots from his shoot with Robbie and it was difficult (fun) task narrowing down my favorites. Many of the images were black and white, but I ended up choosing the color shots as I found them much more dramatic, especially the dark background, and how the light and shadow cascade over Robbie's skin. Speaking of skin, some of you might have wondered if Jim ever ended up posing naked for that charity calendar...

Sadly the answer is no, (or I would have asked to include a shot) but Jim did shed his clothes for a shoot with another photographer. Jim swears these images have been locked away in a vault, location unknown, but the experience did help him understand what a model goes through. I especially loved that Jim shared that it helped him to get a glimpse into what they must be feeling, before, during and after the shoot. In may ways the 'before, during and after' is what I strive to provide each time I profile an artist or shoot on FH.

'The best part of the job... no pants!'

With August in the rear view window, Autumn is just around the corner. As much as I love the fall, and visual beauty it brings forth, I am saddened to say good-bye to those skin filled summer sightings. With only a few weeks left, I thought it appropriate to pay homage to maybe one of the most iconic summer connected images of the male form, the lifeguard. Like many, I had many a fantasies as a kid, and many boners, sitting on the beach with my eyes glued on the lifeguard.

I am sort of grateful that II went through puberty in the 80's, when lifeguards were still mostly wearing speedos. I still love checking out the lifeguards at the beach, but there was nothing like those hot summer days when I was a teenager, having to turn on to my stomach until it was safe, to go back in the water. There are hundreds of lifeguards on FH, but below are some of my favorite pieces featuring those speedo clad life savers.

One to Watch: Harris Dickinson

'An astonishing big-screen debut by Harris Dickinson.'
IndieWire

It's been awhile since an actor, especially one in a gay themed drama, has gotten such universally rave reviews for their performance. Eliza Hittman's Beach Rats is bringing a lot of attention actor Harris Dickinson's way, and he seems to be keeping his head firmly on his shoulders. The London born actor has been performing since he was a kid, but at 20, his role as the sexually confused Frankie marks his first starring role in a film.

'Frankie starts to rack up a lot of dates with daddy types (mainly to ensure that his sexual escapades remain outside his social circle), and we see nearly all of Dickinson, whether in motel rooms or roadside hideouts.'

'It was a new experience But I was comfortable doing it. I’m comfortable in my sexuality and in my body now. You have to come to terms with the fact that you’re going to bare yourself on-screen and it’s going to exist there forever, but I cared enough about the character that I just wanted to throw myself into it.'
