Irish Eyes: Dakota by Studio1x

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.

Many FH readers are aware that Jim from Studio1xhas photographed many incredible men, and many, he's managed to persuade to don a witches or Christmas hat or be covered with vegetables or hearts for a FH holiday themed shoot.  Jim shares that the fetching Dakota didn't require much pursuing, but do to how close it was getting to St. Paddy's Day, it did require some quick planning, and creative scheduling.

'I had a few ideas brewing around in my head but hadn't acted upon buying any of the props as I hadn't found the right model for the shoot.  I was sitting at the barber one Saturday morning and while waiting was checking out my Instagram feed. I came across a photo that Dakota had recently posted and thought he would be perfect for the shoot I had in mind.'

Jim had never met or spoken to Dakota before, but thought he would try reaching out to see if he might be interested.   Thankfully Dakota immediately responded that he was interested and on board.  Usually when nudity is involved, Jim likes to move slower but with St. Paddy's Day coming up quickly, he knew he had to act fast.

'I usually tend to set appointments for this type of shoot out into the future, allowing the model to think about it, ask questions and for us to be able to get to know one another better since not everyone is real comfortable being nude let alone doing a nude shoot, it helps build the trust and a working relationship.'

For this shoot, Jim needed it to happen sooner than later, so he asked Dakota if he was available by chance that same day.  Dakota wasn't, but he was able to free up some time the following day. Jim already had another all day shoot scheduled, but asked Dakota if he might be free for an evening shoot, Dakota was fine with that, even though Jim's studio was over an hour away and snow was in the forecast.

'With a had a busy day ahead of me,  I still needed to go and purchase all of the props to be used in the shoot. I was able to get all of that accomplished and that evening set up the studio and did a few test shots to set the lights and see how the props were going to work. Not having a model to do the test with, I became the stand in model and photographer. Those photos will not be shared with anyone but buried in the vault!!!'

FH readers know I usually lay out images in each post to reveal.  The reveal is of course about what's under the shirt and jeans, or in Dakota's case, the kilt, but also to reveal the story.  I also find that by beginning with portrait and clothed shots, viewers get a greater appreciation for all aspects of the subject in focus.  I love that Jim always sends me sets of images in the order in which they were taken.  This means I usually get face, upper body and clothed shots before seeing full nudes.

When Jim sent on his work with Dakota, I knew instantly he picked the perfect model to help visually celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  Dakota has a great look and I was immediately drawn to his beautiful eyes.  I also loved the simple set up Jim created and the colors and fashion, especially the tartan green kilt that contrasts so beautifully against Dakota's skin.

Speaking of that kilts, tradition is that true kilt wearers never wear anything under, and Dakota of course, chose to honor that tradition. To see more of Dakota, and less of the kilt, and to read more of the story behind the shoot,  head on over to PAGE 2 HERE:

Eoin Macken: An Irishmen in New York

Every St. Paddy's Day, I look for a favorite Irish lad to feature on the site.  I love me some Eoin Macken and this piece, was originally intended to posted last year.  When I was searching for images however, I stumbled upon a post on Eoin's Instagram with the Dublin born actor raving about seeing a new film called, what else, St. Patrick's Day.

I ended up getting sidetracked, looking for, and then watching the movie.  I ended up doing a piece on the film and it's star Moe Dunford. (HERE:)  I wasn't about to let another March 17th go by without saluting one of Ireland's hottest import, Eoin Macken.

Eoin, (pronounced Owen) is not only incredibly talented, and incredibly hot, he's also a man who has been busy pursing a variety of careers and interests.  While at University, where he obtained his honors in Psychology, Eoin also became a successful model, becoming the face of Abercrombie and Fitch when he was 19.

Eoin went to study at the Attic studio of drama which led to a move to Los Angeles, and the beginning of his acting and directing career. Eoin has been on the big and small screen in both Europe and the US and currently divides his time between homes in Dublin and New York.

When seeking out the perfect Irish hunks to feature this year, I came upon the Irish Farmer, a charity Calendar featuring a barn and field full of Irish grade A beef!  Although they don't pose naked, I found my captivated by the images, and spent far too much time enjoying the farmers, their produce, and the adorable animals they pose with.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Last Halloween, FH readers might remember my featuring Naked Ambition's images of a sexy masked hippo. (Hippopotamus in the Shower) In addition to his shots of the masked model Jeremiah Bottom, Naked Ambition's George also sent along a few shots of Jeremiah's Irish cousin, Niall McWeeney.

George shared tons of great stories about the lascivious Leprechaun, most however, too naughty to share on FH....  Let's just say that in America, many buskers earn a little change by playing their musical instruments outside of liquor stores and malls.  The only instrument that Niall cares to have played with however, is the one between his legs....  Soooo, If you every find yourself in Ireland on St. Paddy's Day (or any day of the year really) head on over to a mall and for just a few quarters, you can kiss Niall's Irish flute yourself for a for luck

Back Issues: Men Magazine, April 1998

Growing up, I LOVED magazines.  I couldn't wait to hit the drugstore each week when the new issues were put out.  I mostly bought entertainment magazines, Entertainment Weekly, Premiere, The Hollywood Reporter and celebrity magazines from the UK and France.  Except for the odd Playgirl, I rarely bought an adult magazine, but boy did I stare at them on the high back shelves wrapped in plastic.

Like so many, my magazine buying days are pretty much behind me.  Although I still subscribe to Entertainment Weekly, with the net, I don't spend nearly the same amount of cash I used to each week on magazines. That being said, I have figured out that part of my love of continuing with FH is it's connection to my love of magazines, and especially the color images I used to tear out and carefully save.

Although FH has always celebrated Playgirl, the men between the covers, I haven't spent much time on the men between the covers of the other male focused magazines from the past.  Although most are no longer publishing new issues, back issues can still be found.

My new feature, Back Issues will highlight magazines from the past, and the men who filled their pages.  When I can, I'll also include some of the ads, one of my favorite parts of looking back.  I can't believe all the phone sex ads that filled so many issues, it seems so recent in some ways, yet so long long ago.  Up first, Men Magazine from April 1998.

If you like the new feature Past Issues, you can thank these shots of Chris Berrera.  I spotted one of the images of Chris, un-credited, and thought he had an interesting Clark Kent type look and headed to google images search to find out who the model was. That search led me to Amazon which had one of the shots on an ad for this issue of Men Magazine.

I have been planning a post on Melbourne, Australia's Nath Wyld for awhile now, his Instagram has been a visual smorgasbord of delectable butt shots.  Sadly, after reaching close to 90,000 followers, the prudish social media site deleted his account.  But.. Nath's back with a new Instagram (HERE:) and I'm looking forward to future visual feasts.

Shrill: Notes on the Male Cast

I love Aidy Bryant. Kate McKinnon (deservedly) may be the female SNL player getting the most attention, but Bryan always cracks me up.  I was looking forward to watching her new Hulu series Shrill, and with just six episodes in it's first season, it was easy to breeze through this past weekend.

Luka Jones

Based on the book, Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West, the TV version features Bryant as Annie, a woman trying maneuver through family, friends, work, love and life.  Bryant was great and except for the pilot, which I struggled with a bit, the writing, acting and story progression kept both my interest and attention.

Although the show is certainly female driven, Annie's voice and story for me transcended gender, and hit issues we all deal with.  The show also had a great set of well written male characters and great actors in the roles.  Two of my favorites were not the nice supportive work friend of Annie's or her roommates sexy brother.  My favorites, were the idiots.

Jones in Shrill

Luka Jones plays Ryan, Annie's boyfriend in the series.  Despite his treatment of Annie, he does grow as the episodes progress and there is something organically sexy about Jones that was evident whenever he was on screen.  I sort of recognized the actor from guest shots on other TV shows, but wasn't really familiar with most of his work.  He's certainly an actor I plan to keep an eye on.

Jones in Pillow Talk (2017)

John Cameron Mitchell

Now John Cameron Mitchell I recognized right away.  Although maybe most well known for his role, and as a writer for the film version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.  I wanted to love Hewig, for me, Cameron Mitchell made more of an impact on me for his early television roles in the eighties and as writer and director for the 2006 film Shortbus.

Cameron Mitchell with Hedwig writer and composer Stephen Trask

The actor plays Gabe, Annie's boss and Cameron Mitchell's scenes with Bryant were some of my favorites.  There was a lot of friction and energy and I hope this dynamic is explored more if the show returns for a second season

A Rejuvenating Tonic : Pond by macpics

'Bangkok, though, is a rejuvenating tonic; the people seem to have found the magic elixir. Life, a visitor has not been wasted on the Thais.'
Bernard Kalb

Not every city has the power to bring about an instant visual when you hear the word. Cities with a specific feel and energy that become memorable, even to those who've yet to visit them. New York, Paris, London, Dubai and Bangkok are cities we've seen in movies, read about in books and provide the visuals to our geographical dreams. Bangkok is one of the world's most visited cities, it's architecture, ornate shrines, The Grand Palace, the vibrant street life, floating markets bring visitors from all over the globe.

Melbourne, Australia is also a memorable city, and usually when I feature Melbourne photographer Ian from macpics, he's shooting on an Australia beach, in studio, or as many FH readers may remember, his incredible, and extremely photogenic shower... For this shoot, Ian is little farther north from Melbourne, close to 5000 miles farther in Bangkok Thailand.

Like many photographers, when Ian travels, he researches what models he might be available to shoot in the places he's visiting. Before heading to Bangkok, Ian did a quick search on ModelMayhem and found the beautiful model Pond who was happy to schedule a shoot. I had seen images of Pond on ModelMayhem before and was thrilled to be able to feature Ian's images.

I am always on the hunt for models from around the globe to showcase on FH, but it has been challenging at times to find models from Asia who are up for a feature on the site.  Ian actually had set up few shoots during his time in Bangkok, but a couple of them didn't turn out to be as reliable as Pond. .

Ian describes Pond as very pleasant to work with, friendly and chatty and most importantly, Pond was an experienced model who knew how to move and pose without much direction. Ian appreciated this, given he was shooting in an unfamiliar location. Without having to direct Pond with poses, Ian was able to focus on his lighting and framing and the unpredictable technical issues that arose in shooting i in the motel

I love the story trajectory of Ian's work with Pond. You can almost feel how their day was spent by the images and locations they shot in. After meeting and getting to know one another, they began shooting in the hotel's gym. After the gym, they headed to other locations around the hotel, with hotel guests getting an extra bonus of Pond posing in just a speedo or his hotel robe. Although he was wasn't completely nude, (until returning to his room for the last part of the shoot) Pond seemed more comfortable with the more intimate settings, than the busier area's of the hotel.

'Pond was a little shy about posing where we might be observed, but apart from that, he was completely relaxed, attentive and cooperative. It shows in the shots, I'm sure you'll agree. I wanted to shoot him at the pool, but there were too many guests from the hotel splashing around there, which was a pity.'

Bedtime Stories by studioMGphotography

"What's your bedtime story?" was the question put to the men on these pages, to be interpreted by each in their own way... Fact or fiction, these are the stories they shared. Only they know if this represents their real self, or maybe an alter ego...
Mark, studioMGphotography

FH readers, especially those who love the work studioMGphotography, recognize the mattress room.  The mattresses and room has been a favorite location of Mark's for awhile and has shown up in several previous pieces featuring Mark's work on FH.  Finding the location began purely by accident, the day Mark was shooting a model FH readers know well, Bond.

'Bond and I were out exploring at an old Army base. I was amazed by his incredible easy going personality, boundless energy, and of course beautiful body. He'd already commented that he'd never spend so much time naked (it was a long day or exploring and shooting). Late afternoon and the light is low and reaching into the old barracks. We did some shooting with graffiti on the ground floor then set out to see the upper floors. Finding the mattresses Bond started jumping on them like a gleeful kid. Winded after a while he laid down on his back, spread eagle, to cool off... I kept shooting and Bedtime Stories was born...'

Since that first shoot in the room with Bond, (above) Mark has been drawn back to the location many times, bringing dozens of models along to play on the mattresses.  The room was on the third floor of a concrete barracks building, with maybe 40 rooms per floor. Two staircases connected everything, and on each floor there was a locker room style toilet and shower area in the middle of the building. Mark typically began his shoots by simply introducing guys the room, which he shares was less than impressive upon first site.  Abandoned for over 20 years, it was dusty and grimy with broken desks thrown around, torn curtains and of course all those mattresses.

Mark noted that there were three different mattress designs, one with dark pinstripes he assumes was military issue.  The others looked like they may have been purchased on sale by the Army, with wide pink and blue stripes or with huge flowers.  Mark would tell models that their first decision was about how they wanted to stage their shoot, picking a mattress and deciding what they wanted to do with them.

Mark has been working on a book featuring the location for awhile, but it took a bit of time to put things together narrow down from the hundreds of images of the many models that he shot at the location.  Bedtime Stories is finally ready with  119 pages, and over 160 photographs of featuring explicit content and full nudity with 40 different guys including many, (Bond, Yorgen, Renn, Anton, Andrew, Gabriel, Angel, Nathan) FH readers have already come to know and enjoy.

'The 40 guys really cover a wonderful range of manhood... The age range is 18-48. Unintentionally I think I hit pretty much every ethnicity. There are gay, bi and straight boys. There are long haired boys and shaved heads. Blonds, brunettes, black hair, and a ginger... Professionally they are all across the board too; Dancers, students, engineers, a rocket scientist, a photographer, medical professionals, waiters & bartenders, personal trainers, a gardener, a military man... Some were fairly modest while others appears to not have a single inhibition. For several this was their first time in front of the camera, while others have modeled extensively.'

Largely, the look and feel of the images Mark captured were created by the models themselves.  Mark would introduce the location, then, encourage them to do as the pleased, to get creative and enjoy themselves. Occasionally Mark brought a prop or two, and a few models brought along stuff themselves, but mostly, it was jut them, the room and the mattresses.  Given the book's theme was Bedtime Stories, I asked Mark to share a few stories of his own from his time shooting in the location.

'One reason "our" room survived in the same condition for several years is that one of my early models was friends with a team of graffiti artists who were busily painting and tagging the buildings. He asked them to leave that room alone as it was being used for an art project as is. Whether it was his request, or the graffiti artists got bored, but the room was left alone..

One time a model and I could hear college kids coming up the stairs and then turning our direction on the central hallway. I popped out into the hall in front of them, giving them quite a shock since they didn't know we were there. I'm carrying the camera and giving them a "heads up" that there's a photo shoot happening here. About then the model also pops into the hallway, obviously still pulling his clothes on. The kids said "cool" and quickly kept moving down the hall!'

'Twice models brought their significant others along. A straight boy's girlfriend sat behind me quietly watching the shoot. Once or twice she'd make a comment (she modeled for a living), or swoop in during a break and touch up his makeup. It was one of the more erotic shoots to begin with and at one point after he'd been playing with himself for a while he locked eyes with her and jacked off. So focused on what he was doing I have no idea what might have been happening behind me!

Another surprise guest was a models boyfriend. This was already a duo shoot between two models who were not a couple, but knew each other well, if you catch my drift. They too had a pretty steamy shoot, all while the boyfriend sat in the corner of the room totally ignoring the shoot and playing video games on his phone.'

Kane : Sometimes I think there's something wrong with me.
David : I've never met anyone born after 1965 who wasn't incomplete somehow.

One of the seasons last 12 Days posts featured actor Cameron Bancroft. (HERE:) For the piece, I re-watched Love & Human Remains, the 1993 film which I believe contains Cameron's only nude scene. The Canadian film, directed by Denys Arcand was based on a Brad Fraser's stage play about a gay man and his female roommate trying to find love and sexual gratification in Edmonton as a serial killer is loose in the city.

Actor Thomas Gibson played David, the gay roommate, and one of the men he encounters in the beautiful Kane played by actor Matthew Ferguson. Matthew was incredibly compelling in the role, visually stunning with his beautiful long hair and great face full of wide eyed innocence and curiosity. I had forgotten about Matthew's brief nude scene, but did a few caps to showcase the actor in the future.

With the cast off-set (and with shorter hair)

It appears that Matthew, 20 at the time of filming, and 45 years old today, has left acting, but he appeared in a number of Canadian movies and TV shows throughout the nineties. After graduating from the Claude Watson School for Performing Arts, Matthew got his start doing theatre before landing his first film role, alongside actress Judy Davis, in On My Own in 1991. Some of Matthew other films include; Lilies, Eclipse, Billy Madison and The English Patient. Matthew is maybe most well known to many for his role as Seymour Birkoff in La Femme Nikita from 1997-2001.

La Femme Nikita

Eclipse (1994)

In addition to Love & Human Remains, Matthew also had a nude scene in 1994'Eclipse, but despite a deep search, have had no luck finding a copy of the 1994 film. If anyone knows were I might find a copy, shoot me a line.
