Luke Mitchell: On Mute

This past weekend, like almost every one of my weekends, procrastination ruled.  I had a ton of things to do, most importantly, read several long reports for work in preparation for a meeting set for of course... first thing Monday morning.  This meeting wasn't one I could just 'wing' which meant not just skimming the material, but reading, digesting, and taking notes on every important point.

Sunday night, with the beginning of Game of Thrones approaching, I set my DVR to record, and made a pact with myself not to watch until I finished what I should have done earlier in the day.  I put on a little classical music, (I needed something without lyrics to distract me) put the TV on mute, and began reading.

About 20 minutes in, I looked up at the TV to see the the incredibly beautiful face of an actor I didn't immediately recognize.  I pressed 'info' on my remote and discovered the show was The Code.  I'm not a huge fan of procedural TV shows, and had never seen the military legal drama before.  The beautiful face belonged to actor Luke Mitchell, and actor who's popped up a few time on FH before.

Luke looked a little older than I remembered, and little more filled out.  He also looked hotter than ever!  I knew him mostly from the images and clips I had seen from his roles on the Australian shows Neighbours and Home & Away.  It wasn't so surprising I didn't recognize him right away.  In most of the images (HERE:) that I had used of Luke before, he was usually shirtless. (and one time pantless...)  After figuring out it was Luke, I went back to my reports and didn't finish reading til close to 1am.   Of course, I still had to watch Game of Thrones which meant although I was informed at Monday's meeting, I wasn't exactly bright eyed and alert.  It was worth it.

Movement at Teufelsberg: Stephan Tobias by David P. France

'In many ways those pictures now are a reverence not only to movement but also to times lost.'

Regular FH readers no doubt recall the work of artist Stephan Tobias.  I have featured the Berlin based artist's work as both a model and photographer.  As a photographer one of my favorites pieces was the 2015 feature Row Boat. (HERE:)  As a model, I especially loved the spectacular views of Stephan on The Italian Island of Ischia shot by Stephan's friend Marco Cortese.  (The Forces of Nature)

Today's set of images again feature Stephan's modeling work, and well as his artistic editing and creative collage work.   For this shoot at Teufelsberg, a former US air control and surveillance station in West Berlin,  Stephan collaborated with US dancer and photographer David P. France, who was visiting Stephan from Basel.

'After the end of the cold war, Teufelsberg fell derelict. Although there was a fence and some security, it became a popular place for sprayers and urban explorers. They cut into the textile cover of the high radar tower, and until around 2010, it hung down around that tower like a theater curtain.'

'We crawled under fence and were lucky to get into the tower with no one else around. We were stunned by the aesthetic qualities of the place. I was happy to do some nude modeling there and while David wanted to focus on my body movement and tension I was more interested in interacting with the surreal and unique background of the tower and radar domes and the Grunewald forest and suburban Berlin cityscape on the horizon.'

Stephan shares that he and David shot there for almost two hours in pretty chilly conditions.  Despite the cold temperatures, Stephan was pleased with the results.  So pleased, that he used many of the images from the series to compose a set of digital collages. Stephan loved the look of the curtain-like of the curtain like tatters of the tower, especially how the looked flowing in the air and wind.

'When asked this year to come up with a contribution about movement I again thought of this series and decided to rework some of those older collages. They indeed represent David's concept of movement, but also mine of surreal combinations. They also are portraits of my younger and more handsome self, which now for me adds to the intended surreal twist.'

'In many ways those pictures now are a reverence not only to movement but also to times lost, Teufelsberg has been leased to an artist community shortly after that shooting which closed all the holes in the fences and allows a restricted regime of occasional guided tours only. No creative nude shootings are possible there any more and those beautiful tattered curtains have been cut off. Movement of time could be considered a sad affair, if it were not for a new opportunity springing up for each old one lost.'

'Danko has a very open-minded girlfriend who didn't mind Danko doing the nude photographs in the slightest bit.'

Got to love open minded girlfriends, especially when they have hot boyfriends who don't mind getting naked!  Although these images were shot for Phil's site Bodytorium, Phil says he'd shot Danko in the nude previously, but that first time was just for fun....  Phil describes Danko as wonderfully free-spirited, and one of the craziest friends he has.

If you want to see more of Phil's work with Danko, in and out of the bathtub, head on over to Bodytorium. Phil has added over 600 shots of  Danko both inside, as well as outside on a very chilly day shooting at Plavecký hrad, a castle Phil hopes to return to again when the weather warms up!

Man of the Moment: Noah Centineo

Okay, first off, I have to first acknowledge that I have yet to see 23 actor Noah Centineo (pronounced Sen-tin-ay-o) in a movie or on television. Like many actors that I feature, my introduction to the sizzling Centineo was through his images. A few months ago, after seeing the promo's, I was interested when seeing, and reading a little about the Netflix film To All The Boys I've Loved Before It's still on my 'to watch' list, but I didn't think that should prevent a little googling of the films hot lead.

Noah is no only incredibly hot, but also incredibly photogenic. Whether in posed or candid shots (or leaked selfies and videos...) those eyes, that face, that body are always eye catching. I had started a piece on Noah months ago, but seeing the Calvin Klein shots released along with the Shawn Mendes promotion, had me moving it up the cue! The former Disney hunk's star is on the rise with a slew of films (including the new Charlie's Angels, Jackie Chan's The Diary and To All the Boys I've Loved Before 2) due for release over the next year.

Actors & Skin: John Lithgow

John Lithgow you ask?  For an Actors & Skin post you say?  Well, I wouldn't have really thought it either, until recently.  I've always loved Lithgow the actor, from his television roles including on Third Rock From The Sun, to his countless stellar performance on screen.   Some of my favorite Lithgow performances have included his roles in; Terms of Endearment, Footloose, At Play In The Fields of the Lord, Raising Cane and The World According to Garp.

As accomplished as Lithgow is on television and film, his stage work, starting with The Changing Room in 1973 that especially impressive.  It was also one of the actors projects from the 1970's that inspired this post.  A month or two ago, I DVR'd the TCM airing of the 1976 Brian De Palma psychological thriller Obsession.

Obsession (1976)

I think Obsession was the first time I saw Lithgow from the FH lens.  Lithgow was 31 at the time of filming, and was very hot as Cliff Robertson's scheming real estate partner Robert LaSalle.  Obsession was an odd, but creepy film about a man's (Robertson) obsession with his long dead wife and child.  It's very 70's in look and lighting, but a film that grabbed my attention from the get go and held on to it throughout.

The Manhattan Project (1986)

When I used to watch Third Rock From The Sun, I was usually crushing over Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but if I happen to see any repeats in the future, I will be keeping a close eye on Lithgow's character Dick Solomon.

Naked Palms: Van Ryder by Greg Lindeblom

'It's rare to find such a young model who is interested in the artistic side of modeling, as well as the more commercial and even erotic aspects'.

When spending time with images of the stunning Van Ryder that photographer Greg Lindeblom sent on, I started thinking about whether there's a difference in the meaning behind the word body, and the word physique.  Random thought maybe, but I noticed that I fluctuate between the use of the words depending on the artist, the model, and the images that I'm featuring.

Although both words are interchangeable, and mean basically, the same thing, there are subtle difference.  Technically, body means the physical appearance, the outside, the frame.  Physique goes a little deeper, meaning a persons natural constitution, overall shape and physical structure of a person.  The body is what we see, the skin, the curves, the physical appearance and beauty of specific body parts. The physique, is more complete description,  it's the body and it's systems,  what can be seen both above and beneath the skin.

Physique was also historically a safer word.  It was deemed more appropriate by some in society to photograph, draw or paint the nude male physique as opposed to the male nude body.  The word physique for me, also always conjures up classic.  Classic images, classic poses, classic themes and methods to capturing the male form.  Whenever I feature the work of Florida photographer Greg Lindeblom, physique is the descriptor that always first comes to mind.

'In the past, we've featured models with whom I have worked over extended periods of years. Both George Field and Eric Robles fit in that category. Van Ryder is a model I worked with twice in a week -- once in a wonderful new outdoor location for me and the second time in my studio. The outdoor location is in the yard of the Naked Palms Tiki Hut in the Victoria Park area of Fort Lauderdale. What a beautiful location. I hope to shoot there many times in the coming months and years.'

It's not just the classic poses, especially in studio shots, (which I'll share soon) it's in how Greg looks at and strives to capture and present the men he shoots.  Whenever I see an image of a nude male model, I usually have a pretty good eye for concluding whether the photographer was focused on the model's  body, and usually a specific body part, or their overall look and physique.

It is not that the body is ignored, just the opposite in fact.  Every inch of the body is both captured and celebrated.  Greg gives the same attention, the same degree of care, to everything, both seen, and unseen, that makes up the man in front o his camera.  As is evident in these images from his Naked Palms shoot, Greg not only captures Van Ryder's incredible physique, but the man who both inhabits, and works his butt off to create, sculpt and maintain it.

'I hope working with Van becomes an ongoing collaboration. Both shoots ended with us exploring themes we hadn't anticipated and leaving part of the plan unshot. So there is a lot more we can do together. He is not only physically beautiful, but he is creative, enthusiastic, and courageous. That is a thoroughly winning combination.'

New Model or Classic?

When it comes to your Favorite Hunks, do you prefer vintage classic, or is it only brand spanking new models for you?  Like many, I go back and forth, often, it's the newer models that get my engines revving, but sometimes, it takes the full throttled power of a classic to get things going.

FH prides itself on presenting and celebrating the best of both newer and classic depictions of the male form.  Today, I ended up interested in, and writing about, one of each and enjoyed putting them together equally.

So.....  whether you're into new models like the studly actor Noah Centineo, or the classic looks, well built, and incredibly talented John Lithgow. We've got you covered, or uncovered, whatever the case may be!

Blast from the Past: Jesse Borrego

You ain't seen the best of me yet
Give me time
I'll make you forget the rest

Why actor Jesse Borrego?  This Blast from the Past was inspired by two Twitter posts this past week.  The first clue that it was time for Jesse to make a FH appearance was seeing black and white image below.  The hot shirtless shot was posted on a retro TV page I follow.  It had me wishing more of the 80's television show Fame was out on DVD.  I bought and watched the first couple of seasons, but only have foggy memories of seeing a few of the show's later episodes which featured Jesse.

The second clue it was time, was post on Twitter about a Fame UK Reunion concert that occurred last week.  The show appears to have been HUGE in the UK, and it seems the cast returns for concerts every few years.  Although I don't remember seeing much of the show, I do remember some of the songs.  I was given 'The Kids from Fame' as school secret Santa gift when I was about 9 or 10, and played it to death, especially anything sung by Coco (Erica Gimpel)

I remember whenever I saw shots of Jesse in magazines he was usually shirtless, and with his body built by dance, hot moves and sexy eyes, he certainly got my attention.  Although I haven't seen those later seasons, they were the seasons that also included Janet Jackson, post Diff'rent Strokes and Good Times, and just before she shot to stardom with Control in 1986.

Jesse kept busy after Fame left the air with TV and film roles, I remember his stint on the third season of Dexter.  On television, Borrego's appeared most recently in American Crime and Fear The Walking Dead, and Jesse has several films due for release this year.

A Moments Notice: Daniel by MW Photo MD

'The ones who notice the storms in your eyes, the silence in your voice and the heaviness in your heart are the ones you need to let in.'

With the world, especially the on-line world, full of billions of images, I often wonder what causes me to take notice of a specific image.  What is it about an artist's work, a models look, or an individual image, that has me stop, pause and want to see and, learn more.  Given FH is based in story, what I first notice, is more often than not, the impetus to the story.

When Mark (MW Photo MD) sent on his images of Daniel, there were several things that popped off the screen that I noticed.  I think first, it was Daniel's strong face, beautiful nose and mouth.  I especially took notice of the Maryland model's beautiful brown eyes, thoughtful, but most definitely, with a storm of energy a brewing.

The second thing I noticed was of course, Daniel's large and colorful chest tattoo.  Viewers of Game of Thrones will understand why I first thought of the Cersei army, The Golden Company, and the elephants she so wanted to be a part of it.   The Latin phrase atop the art work, Inveniam Viam aut Faciamis  (I will either find a way or make one) speaks of that storm in Daniel's eyes and his desire and determination to reach his goals.

Daniel says that didn't initially plan on having such a magnificent art piece adorn his body.  When he listened to the artist describe the idea for the tattoo, Daniel decided it would would make a great chest piece and gave the artist the creative freedom to go with his concept.

It was this desire to jump in, take risks and experience life that brought Daniel to modeling.  When he was first in college, he saw an ad for a figure drawing model.  Daniel needed the cash, and it seemed like a cool experience, so he just went for it.  After that first modeling gig, he was hooked and was on the look out for other modeling opportunities that came up to pursue.

One of those opportunities was connecting with Mark who first spotted Daniel's work on Model Mayhem.  After checking out Daniel's portfolio, Mark liked what he saw and reached out to him about getting together.  Daniel was on board and they began with discussions about what each was looking for from the shoot, and what creative idea's and looks would be different and new to add to their portfolio's.

'Daniel's tattoo first caught my attention with all of the detail colored work and I liked that he took pride in his appearance with his work outs.  It took awhile before were us both to sync up our schedules for a studio shoot, but it was worth well  it. I had a great time working with him and collaborating our ideas. We have been discussing a second shoot which I'm really looking forward to!'

The third thing I noticed was of course Daniel's body, and a few specific and impressive body parts. Daniel maintains his physique through regular lifting, and although he was a little nervous the first time displaying all of his body for a shoot, his anxiety subsided after his first few gigs. After that, the freedom Daniel experiences and loves when modeling, especially when modeling nude, beautifully takes over.

Take Five

On a scale from 1-10 how nervous were you the first time posing nude?
3. It's always at least a little concerning shooting with someone you've yet to meet face to face

Had you ever been naked in public before modeling?
Do gym showers count?

What are your boundaries for a shoot?
Nothing gratuitous

What's the best compliment you received about one of your modeling images?
I had someone tell me that I captured something to the effect of "masculine realism" so I took that positively.

Do you have a dream scenario for a shoot you'd love to do?
I prefer direction from the photographer, so just so long as he or she has the vision and is really into their craft then I want to work with them.

What stood out from you with your day shooting with Mark?
He was very professional and respectful

Was there anything about your with Mark, unique from any of your previous shoots?
The cuffs were a first!
