All The World's A Stage: Peter by studioAtruong

'Drama is life with the dull parts left out.'
Alfred Hitchcock

In his 'about me' section on his site, studioAtruong's Alain describes gravitating towards the dramatic interplay of light and shadows. On his Model Mayhem page, 26 year old Peter Baranyai shares his experience of working in an inventive theatre company and having just graduated from drama school.

It was drama, or more precisely, dramatic, that came to mind when viewing the images from this shoot. Dramatic can be a difficult concept to capture just right. There is a fine line between dramatic and overly dramatic and camp. Alain and Peter hit just the right note through fashion and props, Alain's lighting and of course the incredible poses.

Looking back on the Prime Time soaps from the 80's and 90's, it is easy to think of them retrospectively as a bit campy. When I was a kid however, watching the wheeling and dealing on Dallas and the twists and turns on Knots Landing and Falcon Crest, the drama may have been high, but it was also incredibly compelling. Watching these shows with my parents, usually past my bedtime, took me to a world far from my own, one full of color and glamour and of dramatic lives being lived to the fullest.

Somehow I got this same feel from Alain's images of Peter. The poses, Peter's facial expressions and the knowing look in his memorizing blue eyes. Maybe also in part because of the the metallic material beneath Peter in some of the images, but I was taken back to the Harry Langdon images I so loved as a kid. Langdon shot some of television's most dramatic women and most celebrities during that time stood in front of his lens. Langdon's shoots were dramatic, distinct and tailored to bring out the personality of the subject and beautifully lit just as Alain has done with Peter here.

Unconventional Hunk of the Day: Chris D'Elia

My dislike of Whitney Cummings had me skipping her sit-com last year which sadly meant I missed out on being introduced to comedian and actor Chris D'Elia. Fortunate for me we were introduced recently with his comedy special White Man / Black Comic.

D'Elia isn't the type of guy I usually go for, but a man who can make me laugh, and laugh a lot is always attractive. White Man /Black Comic, includes not only D'Elia's well known drunk girl impression, it also includes a great piece on Homophobia and even more hilarious bit on Black Dudes laughing. D'Elia returns to network television this week with a new sitcom I will not pass up (Cummings does not appear in the credits). Although it appears NBC is burning off Undateable with the ratings season over, but if D'Elia's charm on stage translates to the sitcom, it will be worth a look.

Naked man 'danced, sang, and hurled rocks at cars causing 13 to crash on Darwin road'
A 20-year-old man was arrested in Darwin after his naked dancing, singing and rock throwing caused 13 vehicles, including a police car, to crash. He was arrested early on Sunday morning after a number of traffic incidents on Wednesday and Thursday in the Hidden Valley area, just outside of Northern Territory capital's CBD. Reports first surfaced on Wednesday night of a naked blond man throwing rocks at cars on Tiger Brennan Drive, one of Darwin's major arteries.

Passion & Determination: Catching up with Anthony K Welch

'Looks do play an important role not only in music, but all forms of entertainment. Your body is your office, I like mine looking and smelling clean. Your appearance tells a lot about your personality.'

2 Images above from Brooklyn Based

Last summer FH readers were introduced to model, singer and dancer Anthony K Welch. (Ready To Shoot) What impressed me most about the talented, and incredibly hot performer, was not just his looks and images, not even just his considerable talents. What impressed me most was Anthony's determination, pride and confidence. Anthony has a clear passion to stand out in the modeling and entertainment industry. This passion however goal oriented, guided by his own personal set of values and beliefs. In an industry known for pushing boundaries, both visually and artistically, it takes strength and determination to hold on to what you believe, while at the same time taking the risks required to achieve success.

Almost a year later, Anthony's readiness to shoot and ability to bring results has paid off. New shoots and new performance have resulted in a busy last 10 months with new work and some incredible new images from his collaborations with some great artists and photographers. I recently got to catch up with Anthony, checking in on his music, his modeling and how things have gone since we connected last year. I am already excited to find out and see what projects, images and news Anthony might have to share when we catch up next!

'Photographers, directors, and agents are extremely particular; they only want fit models. The public can be even harsher critics. They spend their time looking for flaws. People are not paying to see the ordinary. That means not abusing your body with drugs, over-eating, or other terrible substances. Health and fitness are extremely important to me and it should be for most. I inspire others to lose weight on a daily basis. I even created the hashtag #GetFitAmerica to encourage Americans to burn the fat. When you look better, you feel better.'

Our last ended interviewed with a question about your dream scenario for a modeling shoot. You said it was happening the next day with a nude shoot on the beach. How did it go?

'The shoot went well. It was my first beach shoot. I shot in Rancho Palos Verdes at Sacred Cove. Right next to Donald Trump's mansion. It was a tough shoot. I shot for hours in taverns, the ocean, and even in caves. I had creative control and executed all of my ideas. I learned a lot from that shoot.'

I have enjoyed some of the images you have entered in Model Mayhem's POTD contest. Some are very hot and I always wonder why your images are not garnering more votes. What factors do you think go into success on that particular site?

'Sex. Simply put, sex sells. The photos that win are usually frontal nude pics. The guys are usually posing suggestively. I shoot tasteful nudes; leaving a hint to the imagination. Regardless of votes, I make the entries for my followers. They are what matter most.'

What factors do you consider when deciding which photographers you will or will not work with?

'Artistically expressing oneself and being nude are two different things. Just standing there naked is not modeling. If I like their work, I build the dialogue to see what they want vs what I want. Then we negotiate. I've been fortunate to still have creative control. A true artist is their best when they have creative control.'

You have stated that music is your ultimate goal. How has modeling impacted or played a role with your journey?

'The modeling culture has definitely impacted me. It has opened doors socially and has been great for networking. Others in the industry do this as a side job or hobby, but that's not my case. I enjoy it. Modeling has definitely improved my performance. I have a consciousness of spacing that I didn't have before. I now understand my body and how it works. Modeling is not easy, but it definitely have kept me on a great path.'

From your tube video's, you clearly have a passion, and the skill for dancing. Have you had any training, or has it been purely a love of the music and movement?

'Yes I am trained in ballet, traditional, Latin dances, hip-hop, and gymnastics just to name a few. Although I do love music and the culture I am a professional. I have danced professionally since the age of 14. My first job was dancing for the NBA. I'm currently registered with IDA on Hollywood Blvd. Dancing is life, I won't ever stop.'

Whose career in modern music would you say best represent where you hope to one day be?

'This is tricky. At first I say Janet, because she revolutionized entertainment. She's one of the few artist that has lucrative career that still maintains a down-to-earth personality. She hasn't released music in years though. In today’s market? There's many: Daft Punk, Pharrell, Adele, and Drake to name a few. They work hard and are extremely passionate.'

With all the millions of artists trying to name for themselves in the music business, what qualities does Anthony Welch possess which will set you apart from the crowd?

'I have passion and determination. I enjoy performing on or off stage. I practice every day. This industry is physically demanding. Many entertainers complain about it, but I enjoy the sweat. People can see drive and they appreciate it. I'm organic and original. I'm an entertainer that a family can enjoy.'

Anyone who watched The Wonder Years remembers Paul Pfeiffer wasn't exactly the smooth one, the hot one, the lucky one. Well... things get better so they say and for Paul, and the actor who portrayed him, Josh Saviano, that seems to be the case. A recent reunion of the cast to celebrate the show finally arriving on DVD, shows Josh looking pretty mighty fine! The 38 year old actor, now lawyer, is all grown up, maybe ready to give Kevin a bit of competition for Winnie's affection!

Return Engagement: Nick Ayler by Hans Fahrmeyer

'With the feeling that I get, I don't even mind if We get wet.'

When it comes form and fitness models, the faces, and bodies tend to come and go a lightning speed. On the Internet especially, the images all over sites and blogs one month, quickly disappear the next. There are some models though, who continue to hold our attention. They know one of the secrets is not to oversaturate the market with image after image, but understand it is the slow burn which sustains a longer, and more intense form of heat.

In so many of these cases, the models have not only a strong desire, but a penchant for knowing how to self promote. They have a plan and a targeted direction. I remember when Nick Ayler contacted me about a blog piece in 2010. He had a clear vision of what he wanted and who he wanted to work with. He was also committed to only working with others who were committed to success.

In many of these cases, we got our first glimpse of the magic with images from artist Hans Fahrmeyer. It was his work with Nick that first grabbed my attention back in 2009. Hans' images of Nick were everywhere, they exploded all over sites and blogs devoted to the male form. Nick's work with Hans continues to be a favorite of mine, and clearly many others. Each collaboration has resulted in incredible captures and Hans thankfully, also usually finds a way to get Nick soaking wet. These images come from two shoots and although you may have seen some of them before, Hans has included few others for FH readers to enjoy, that have not been previously released!

Just Because: The Great Czuchry!

In or out of his business suits, Matt Czuchry has been a stand out on The Good Wife. Matt's Cary Ago was sidelined for a bit when they sent him to work for Peter. This season however he is back full force with his complicated relationship with Kalinda and the new firm with Alicia. Matt celebrated his birthday on May 20th and a blog reader sent on a few of his favorite images for the birthday post. I did not post on that day, but was reminded it was time for Matt to make a FH return!

The Goode Wife

I have been covering The Good Wife, or more specifically, the men of The Good Wife, since the shows first season. The show has been a favorite of mine since the pilot and the actors, writers and stories have only gotten better with each subsequent season. The past season was arguably it's best, a roller coaster ride of office back stabbing, double dealing and intrigue ending with one hell of a shock for long time viewers.

Throughout all the drama this past season, the show wisely, and quietly introduced a new character, Finn Polmar. I say wisely and quietly because I think that if the departure of Josh Charles had been widely know by the audience, the character may not have been as easily accepted by the audience. In many ways, he is a replacement. A replacement not directly to Charles or Will Gardner, but as the third man within the Peter and Alicia triangle.

I knew the actor's face as soon as I saw it, but it took googling after that show to confirm the actor playing Finn was Matthew Goode. I first took notice of Good in Chasing Liberty back in 2004 and have enjoyed him in many projects since. I always wanted Alicia to end up with Will, I am not really a fan of Peter, nor his portrayer Chris Noth. He irritated me on Sex And The City, and does so again on this show. It might be that Noth is so talented and plays the ass so well that I struggle to separate. I thought Carrie Bradshaw, and think Alicia Florrick, both deserve better.

Goode is a wonderful addition as possible new love interest for Alicia. Because of the way the writers slid Finn in, he was not shoved down our throats and with Will sadly in tv character Heaven, Finn is a welcomed addition to the show. The casting department for The Good Wife is one of the best in television, juggling filling it's character's slots with established television and movie stars, unknowns, Broadway and stage actors and exciting up and comers. Whether it be movie actors like Goode, television vets like Michael J. Fox and Mary Beth Peil, character actors like Zach Grenier, Broadway vets Stockard Channing and Nathan Lane and guest stars such as Mamie Gummer and Carrie Preston, they all get a chance to shine. The show even had me tolerating Melissa George who I usually can't stand. Kudos!

Males, Tales & Careers Derailed: Scott by Robert J Guttke

In the image above, Models Suck are the two words spread across the cement wall behind the beautiful body and smile of Scott Synold. I am not sure if artist Robert J. Guttke was initially intending to send a message to his model, but in the end the two words do take on a particular irony given how the story unfolded.

Robert J. Guttke's work rejuvenates. His images inspire, invariably renewing my love and passion for the male form with art and photography. Robert understands instinctively how to pose, frame and permanently memorialize that fleeting moment of physical perfection. Robert J. Guttke is also a writer and storyteller and opening an e-mail from Robert brings forth not just breathtaking images, but fascinating stories of his work, his models and blood sweat and tears that went into the creation of each image.

Robert J. Guttke is also a gentlemen. He has respect for the process and the men and women who have entrusted their bodies, and sometimes soul's, to his artistic hands. Sometimes the stories are not pretty. Models can indeed sometimes suck. Like every profession, there are always some that act unprofessionally, are late or blow off a shoot, are rude, self centred and bring personal issues and baggage to their work. The same of course can be said for photographers, some have clear artistic aspirations, some others may have divergent goals, not directed solely at capturing a great image. As a story teller myself, it is these tales of males, many which act as parables, which I deliciously devour.

Robert J. Guttke has thousands of these stories, most sadly, but yet respectfully will never be told. What I can tell you is time can sometimes help make stories less noisy. A bad experience with a model can sometimes create clutter, acting as a filter to muddy an artists ability to truly appreciate their own work. That is the case with these images of Scott.

The story, the experience, caused Robert to put the images away, both physically and emotionally. Scott's modeling career seemed to stall and except for the occasional sighting of him running along the lake, the images, and the experience were soon forgotten. Robert has been slowly making his way through his massive collection of work, scaning much of his film work to digital. It was through this process the images of Scott again emerged. Looking back now, Robert says he is able to enjoy the work, without all the baggage, and just enjoy what he created. I am glad Robert did. As viewers, those not connected directly to the story, we are able to enjoy the images and the artistry behind them. Robert captures every inch of Scott with detailed precision. Every inch of his body celebrated, his beautiful eyes and Clark Kent shaped face and jaw. His chest, arms and powerful legs. His penis, his neck and overall frame, each muscle and protruding vein captured. Imperfect in life unimportant to the camera and the artist able see beyond it.
