The Sunroom: Pete by Studio1x

'Pete is such a creative person and I felt doing the shoot at his place would be perfect.  He lives in an older complex that had such a great feel to it, plants, decorated well, claw foot tub, beautiful lighting, I was in heaven.'

Some of you may remember Pete, and his work with Jim from Studio1x, when I first featured their work together this past Father's Day. (Pop of the Morning) In addition to checking out all of Pete, we also got to check out quite a bit of Pete's place. Jim utilized the light in many of the rooms in Pete's flat and both the bedroom and bathroom were featured in the first two pieces.

For this series of images, Pete gets comfortable, (aka naked) in his living room.  It's not surprise Jim chose to shoot in this location, the room is circled in windows providing the glorious light that cascades over Pete's beautiful skin.  With the many windows, the multitude of plants and the amazing light, I was reminded of a room I once spent a lot of time in.

FH readers know how important story is in the pieces I put together, and the room I remembered, was the central location in more than few life defining moments in the course of my own story. My panoramic light room wasn't a living room but a sunroom in a house that I rented when I was in my early twenties.  I didn't rent it along, I co-signed a  one year lease with the woman I was engaged with.  Many of you may remember that story, I wrote about it at length in several different pieces in the site's first few years.

The year we lived together was one of the best, and one of the worst years of my life.  It was the year I hurt someone badly, it was also the year I finally came out and began my life as needed to be lived. So much of both that pain and that joy manifested itself in the many hours I spent sitting our sunroom. Decisions were made, promises were broken, time-lines were negotiated and relationships were redefined.

It was also a room of safety.  There's something special about a room that brings so much of the outside world in, but allows you to stay distanced, observing, but not really interacting.  I drank my coffee every morning in that sunroom, and often drank a glass or red wine there in the evenings.  I went in there to read, to work, to nap.  Mostly though, I just went in there to sit and to think.

As I pondered my life, and the situation I was in, I often coped through distraction.  The windows and light provided continuous visuals for mental breaks.  People walking by,  neighbours mowing lawns,
rain coming down in the spring, snow in the summer.  I watched the cars go by and tensed up when first hearing, then seeing, my own car pull in the driveway.

We lived close to where I worked, so I usually walked.  I left my car for her to take to work. Her arrival home always meant whatever I was thinking about, whatever I was distracting myself with, was coming to an end. I always then got up, and went into the living room.  We never really fought or discussed heavy issues in the sunroom.  Although I thought heavy thoughts there, I think we both knew, the sunroom was off limits for the many difficult conversations we had over the course of that year.

Despite how difficult that time was, I miss that house, that sunroom and the woman I lived there with.  We remained friends for quite a few years, I even became the God Father of her first child.  Eventually though, we drifted apart and communication these days is the odd e-mal on holidays.

Looking back, I do regret that unlike Pete, I didn't spend any time naked in my sunroom.  Our neighbours were close, and with all the windows, it would have been impossible not to be seen.  I wouldn't really care these days, but I was much more reserved and cautious back then.  I common symptom I think, when still in the closet.  I did slide in there a few times in my underwear late at night, but only because the protection of darkness had temporarily replaced the light.

Patrick Dempsey in Face The Music

'Exes Lisa and Charlie agree to write a love song for a movie. Charlie is getting married in two weeks. His fiancée suggests writing at her farm outside Paris for (non-existent) peace and quiet - to keep an eye on him.'

Somehow Patrick Dempsey's nude scene in 1993's Face The Music slipped by me.  Not only had I not seen the movie, I don't really remember even hearing about it before.  Thanks to poster Hawthorne over at DreamCaps though, I now have!

I've soured on Dempsey over the last year, maybe in part due to some of the rumors I'd read about his attitude on Grey's Anatomy.  This scene however, had me remembering how much I loved Dempsey when I was younger and so many of his early movies and television shows. I loved some of his early movies, including his first role in Heaven Help Us which I featured last week. I also really loved him during his brief turn on the ABC drama Once & Again.

Julian, funky jazz musician and gorgeous bass guitarist, has what every woman looks for in a man-a natural sense of rhythm.

Name: Julian Saber
Age: 24
Star Sign: Gemini
Lives: Adelaide SA
Makes a Living: Web page designer and music tutor

Australia's version of Playgirl magazine was promoted as a magazine for women who were unashamed about liking sex and loving men. Launched in the early 90's, Australian Women's Forum (AWF) lasted close to ten years, folding in 2001. I've previously posted some of my favorite men from AWF (HERE:) and thought it was time for update!  Thanks to Billydee over at DC for the original posts!

Julian smooths back his dark, floppy hair and his brown eyes t winkle.  He seems like a quiet and assuming guy but once he gets talking, you can't get a word in.  He describes himself as 'just a guy who likes to chill out.' His driving ambition is music.

'I'm actually going through a stage of self-discovery and I wanted to bare my soul, so to speak. I'm not an exhibitionist, but I thought this would help me become more confident.'

Bed, White & Blue: Wes by Bob Burkhardt

'I do make an effort to use bright colors as they pop nicely against the wall or bed. '

Most people who follow an artist, do so because of how they react to their visuals.  They admire their style, their lighting skills or their choice of models.   When I follow and feature an artist's work, I also take notice of space.  The physical spaces they often shoot in, and how they creatively utilize those spaces within their work.

If you've followed the work of photographer Bob Burkhardt, and enjoyed my pieces on his work, (HERE) you'll recognize some of the spaces that Wes is so erotically inhabiting. Bob's studio space includes a tall window he frequently shoots his models in front of.  Almost every model that Bob has shoot within this space has had the window's light cascade over their naked bodies.

If you look closely out of that window, you'll also see a few other windows in the distance.  It had me wondering how many of those naked bodies might have have been by others from the other side of the glass. Bob hasn't shared that he's had any complaints, so I'm pretty sure the studio's neighbours are ok with their views.

The walls which surround the space appear to be a panoramic swath of beige. With beige as a background, utilizing a pop of color becomes even more important.  When I was going through Bob's images of Wes, I was drawn to the many pops of color weaved within the shoot.  With each row of images, Wes' perfect skin was draped in shades from white and grey through vibrant purples, turquoises and blues.

The colors certainly do pop, especially when they're clinging so snuggly around Wes's body, and his body parts. Wes' experience in front of the lens are evident in every images and  Bob shares that Wes gives his most when they're shooting together.  It's no wonder Bob has chosen images of Wes to appear in so many of his Body & Soul books and photo exhibitions.

'Gentlemen - we only live once.'
Jerry, The Full Monty

Patrick Wilson

Over the years, I featured images and clips from both the 1997 film, and the Broadway production of The Full Monty. Of course the story fits the site's theme perfectly. A group of mostly average looking, working class men, who decide to take it all off to make some money.  Of course once they're all on stage, with the bright lights upon them, there's nothing average about them.

Mouhamed Harfouch

Actor Robert Carlyle led the group of wanna-be strippers in the film.  In the Broadway version, the names were changed, but the roles were basically the same.  Actor Patrick Wilson took on the group's leader on stage, playing Jerry Lukowski from 2000-2003.  The show went on to play all over the world, including the Brazilian production Ou Tudo Ou Nada.

The Brazilian production, directed by Tadeu Aguiar, was staged in Rio in 2015. The show followed the Broadway production closely, including the New York setting.  A few references were changed or updated to reflect changes since the original production.  Talking on the role of Jerry for this production was Brazilian actor Mouhamed Harfouch.

Although Harfouch studied civil engineering, he eventually decided to follow his passion for acting. Harfouch was initially shocked when he was approached about the role.  Although he'd done many plays on stage, he'd never appeared in a musical, nor ever sung professionally before. Harfouch was known to many for his television roles in telenovelas.

Fábio Bianchini

Fábio Bianchini has been drawing attention. Interpreter for the stripper Bobby, he spends the entire time of the play dressed in only a  jockstrap Fábio trembled at the base when he was invited by director Tadeu Aguiar to give life to the character who, without a doubt, was the most daring of his career.

'Everyone has problems, but they unite in the difficulty and take off their underwear to try to get out of that situation'
Tadeu Aguiar, Director

The highlight of the movie, and the musical production, is of course the strip in the shows final number.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that someone uploaded it on Youtube.

Grey Matter: Wes by Bob Burkhardt

'As for wardrobe, it’s usually a mix between mine and the model’s'

When it comes to putting together a piece for FH, I usually begin by asking a model or photographer to send on any and all images I might be able to choose from for the piece.  I love to have as many images as possible to choose from. Some photographers send on 100's  of images, other carefully edit just enough for the piece.  Bob Burkhardt is one of the photographers who sends on a huge selection of images for me to choose from.

One of the other reasons that I love a large selection of visuals to choose from is that I never really know what direction I'm going to go with presentation until I start piecing it together.  Very often, it's the the images, and something I see within them, the direct a stories focus.

Some FH readers may remember my previous pieces featuring Bob's work with the stunning Wes (HERE:)  Bob and Wes first met when Bob was shooting for BreedItRaw productions. As incredible as his physique may be, and as powerfully erotic his poses, when I revisited the images Bob sent, I found myself drawn to Wes' grey hoodie.

Hoodies, especially grey ones, aren't especially know for their erotic appeal.  I usually only wear mine when I work out.  Draping Wes' body however, especially given he's wearing nothing else, the hoodie becomes the perfect piece of fashion to spotlight Wes' beautiful skin and incredibly hot body.

I especially love how Wes so skillfully utilizes his fashion prop, holding it slightly different with each pose creating uniquely different looks in each images.  The hoodie also seems to focus the viewer on Wes's great face and smile above, and his beautiful penis and incredible pair of legs below. Check out more of Bob's work with Wes on the NEXT PAGE HERE:

The Slab Boy:
Playhouse Theatre
(Mar 07, 1983 - Apr 17, 1983)

Although the recent documentary Val has a many heartbreaking scenes, it's also a fascinating look into the actors career. I really enjoyed listening to actor Val Kilmer share behind the scenes stories of his time on stage and in films.

One of the most interesting stories to me was Val's time on the New York stage in the play The Slab Boys.  On a couple of years out of school, Val was initially hired as the lead in the production. As other actors, more well known for their film roles became available, Val was demoted. When Kevin Bacon became free, the director asked Val to take the second lead.  Then when Sean Penn was free to join the cast, Val was demoted again to the third lead position.

Bacon, Jackie Earle Haley, Kilmer and Penn

Val seemed to roll with it all, as did his video camera which captured the young cast behind the scenes back stage.  In the scene below, Bacon and Penn, both in their early 20's, moon Val and his video camera.

Back in early July, I shared that I would be posting a little less over the summer.  Regular FH viewers may have noticed a decrease in the days that I posted.  Unfortunately, that has to continue for a little longer.  Personal and professional issues are going to keep me from posting as often as I used to for a bit longer.

I hope that within a few weeks things will get back to normal, especially with Halloween coming next month!  Thanks for your patience, and keep checking back, I'm still going to be posting, just not quite as often as I have been.

Martin Kove: Actors & SKIN

$

Although many producers and directors have wisely gotten actor Martin Kove shirtless, he really has only one 'actual' nude scene.  Sure, he had a few sex scenes in some soft-core flicks, but they were not shot in a way to show off Kove.  In his first credited movie, (as Marty Kove) the young actor showed it all.

We can thank Andy Warhol and director Paul Morrisey for Kove's appearance in 1971's Women In Revolt.  Check out caps below from the film, and a few other of Kove's on-screen skinning.

White Light (1991)

An undercover cop gets killed, goes to heaven, meets a beautiful woman there, then inexplicably returns to life. There he is haunted by visions of this woman and her death, and tries to track her down, an undertaking somehow connected to his original assignment.

Steele Justice (1987)

Steele is ex-cop and Vietnam vet who is determined to bring down Kwan, former South Vietnamese general and now rich and powerful drug lord.

Women in Revolt (1971)

Candy is an aloof heiress caught in an unhappy relationship with her brother. Jackie is a virginal intellectual who believes women are oppressed in contemporary American society. And Holly is a nymphomaniac who has come to loathe men, despite her attraction to them.

The stars of Women In Revolt were Jackie Curtis, Candy Darling and Holly Woodlawn, three trans women, superstars of Andy Warhol's Factory scene. Jackie and Candy had previously appeared in Flesh and Holly had starred in Trash. This film was noteworthy in that although directed by Paul Morrisey, Warhol himself also filmed scenes for the film.  The film satirizes the Women's Liberation Movement, and alludes to Valerie Solanas and the SCUM Manifesto.

'We began shooting Women in Revolt in the spring of 1971 on the fashionable Upper East Side in a swank, upscale apartment. My first scene was with Martin Kove, who later became successful in his role on the TV series Cagney and Lacey... '

'I later found out that Martin had no clue as to who or what I was. He had just come out of the service and was trying to break into acting when his uncle introduced him to Paul [Morrissey]. Martin didn't have a clear idea as to what the Warhol crowd was about. Nor did he realize that I wasn't an authentic woman. Nobody bothered to tell him.'

Below Deck : Ashton

I'm almost through catching up with Below Deck and should be finished by the time the new season begins in October.  I'm not sure how feel about season 6 and season 7's Ashton Pienaar, but he certainly did make an impression.  More popular with the older ladies on the boat the younger crew, the Deckhand turned Bosun went through a few personality changes on his journey.

Ashton certainly liked the ladies, and was always on the hunt.  Although some of his female crew members called him misogynistic, for me, he was more immature than anything else.  Ashton certainly got angry when he drunk, but there were times, like when he first became bosun, that he tried to step up.  Unfortunately his animal instincts usually got in the way.

Ashton came by those instincts honestly enough. His days as a stripper seemed to have given him a bit of skewed view of male/female relationships.  Ultimately though, I think I liked Ashton more than I maybe should have.  I hated the season 7 reunion show, and thought Captain Lee and the female crew members were way over the line with how they talked down to the male deckhands.

Sure, they all acted like assholes much of the season, but they certainly weren't alone. None of the women were exactly angels themselves and Captain Lee seemed like was trashing Ashton more to back-up Kate than anything else.  Regardless, Ashton was brought back for a reason, and I'm sure he gave the producers exactly what they were looking for.

'Watch out boy he'll chew you up'

I'm not someone who really cares about someone else's sexuality.  This is especially true when it's a celebrity.  That being said, almost every male celebrity at one time or another, has been rumored to be gay.  I'm not sure any recent celebrity has gotten as much attention as singer Shawn Mendes. Social media and male celebrity sites are full of posts from people who 'believe'  he's gay.

I have no clue, but I do know one thing, Mendes knows how to play the game.  Although he's denied in interviews that he's gay, he also seems to have a bit of fun with it.   He's seems to almost give a metaphoric wink to those who question his sexuality.  Sure, there are countless posed and staged shots of Mendes and his girlfriend, but between his work with Calvin Klein underwear and his shirtless photo sessions, he works to keep his fans, regardless of their sexuality, satistifed.

I'm not sure a closeted celebrity would have shown up to The Met Gala in an outfit showcasing leather and his, but Mendes doesn't seem to care.  This has me liking him, regardless of his sexuality, even more.  There was a day many young male performers, and certainly their mangers, would have stayed clear of an event like the Met Gala.

Mendes not only went, he flaunted his body, not concerned about what others might think or say. I'm sure the singer knew what the responses would be, but he didn't really seem to care.  He seems to like being enjoyed, by any eyes who might be enjoying him.  I certainly enjoyed seeing the shots of Mendes entering.  I also couldn't help wonder if his wearing two belts meant anything at all.  Probably just a fashion choice...
