Brother Wear Thou Art

So many of you know I love me some Cody Calafiore, but call me late to the party, but it's time his brother Paul gets some time in the spotlight. Like most of you, I noticed Cody's hot brother during Cody's season of Big Brother, especially during their shirtless tennis segment last season. I have been planning to feature Paul's work for awhile, but some of his recent Instagram posts, have pushed me hurry the heck up!

Like Cody, Paul is a model, and has personality plus that shines through is images, and his social media postings. Cody and Paul not only share some pretty hot tight genes, but at certain angles have pretty similar facial features. So much so, many were posting Paul's images, crediting them as his brother Cody. One only need to look closely, which given it's Paul, is not that difficult of a task. His tats, and his adorable grin, always give him away if you looks closely enough. Check out his social media pages below, you will not be disappointed!

First five images by Gordon Nebeker

'One thing that made working with these particular models joyful, was that they contributed many of the poses. Some of the best ideas came from the models who could be like enthusiastic puppies with a new toy.'

As 2015 comes to an end, so sadly does the Muscles & Mountains series. I thought ending with Rob was a great way to end the series. Rob is the only model of the three that I have not featured, and thought he deserved a bit of extra attention. Not only is Rob incredibly sexy, he also creates such beautiful poses and lines and acts as a anchor of strength in so many images from the series.

Rob had a successful modeling career in New York for many years, but has since settled into a full time job outside of the industry. Today, Rob models mostly for fun when he has time off from work. When opportunities come up, especially like whirlwind trips to Utah to shoot with Gordon, Mike and Mark, Rob loves to jump back in the game. The entire group gathered to celebrated Rob's 45th birthday during this years shoot.

Gordon describes Rob as a great model, and a great guy. Rob's keeps his incredible body in model ready shape with yoga, and you can see the influence of yoga in many of poses. What I love most about Rob's work, besides his spectacular butt, is his physical interactions with his surroundings. Whether with the rocks and tree's all around him, or his poses with Will and Joel, Rob's interactions and connections are intensely sensual and highly erotic.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Creative impulses are a fascinating thing. With FH in it's 9th year, my compulsion to continue ebbs and flows each month, and in some cases, each day. But then... I see an image, I discover a new model, I find a photographer or artist whose imagery grabs my attention, and I am again excited to showcase the work.

I always love getting e-mails from artists, especially those artists that consistently contribute to the blog. Seeing that little attachment symbol, and knowing I am about to see new work, propels me to continue, even when I may not be feeling that inspired. Art rejuvenates, and I hope FH has provided you a little rejuvenation, inspiration and tons of stimulation over the last 12 months. A huge thank you as always, to all those who contribute images, art and stories, and have me looking forward to seeing what you're going to do next!

I have always enjoyed balloon imagery, maybe more than balloons themselves. When I was searching for some images for New Years, I came upon the work Ohio photographer DCurtis. DCurtis is also fascinated the balloon concept, and plans to focus more on the theme in the future. The black light images also have shades of New Year fireworks and streamers. I look forward to fearuting more work from Douglas in 2016. For now, here are three of my favorite images, one from the balloon series and two from the black light set to celebrate the New Year.

Stephan Tobias: Open A Tiny Window. 2015

Over the last year, model and artist Stephen Tobias has been apart of some of FH's biggest celebrations. Stephen's images were some of the most popular shots from my Last Gasp of Summer Series, and his 2014 advent calendar helped celebrate Christmas on the site last year. Although Christmas day is over, January 1st seems a great day to look back at the German model and artist's 2015 edition.

'Avent Calendars don't seem to be popular in the US, but in Germany they are. When I was a child I had one which showed Santa Claus with a reindeer sledge riding through a small town, visiting people and doing errands, until arriving in the beautiful Gothic church for Christmas eve on December 24, which is when Germans celebrate Christmas. I loved this calendar and its colorful setting, which was put up on December 1 and disappeared on New Year. It has been lost after I moved away from my parents house, but I still see those little pictures before my inner eye.'

'Nothing we remember is lost entirely. We have the capacity of recreating or reviving almost anything, sometimes better than ever before. But it was more like an ironic comment to a commercially driven advent calendar craze, with plastic calendars filled with little chocolates and the like, that 4 years ago I playfully did a first advent calendar, with nothing but nude pictures of myself taken throughout the year. Any countdown is a progression. Any progression contains a narration. I am not good at storytelling with words, but I can do it with pictures. Seen in a context those series of 24 pictures can tell a story of ideas born, efforts made, battles fought, things achieved and lost, and thoughts deepened. I worked a bit more on this aspect this year, and if I continue maybe this is the direction things will take. Self portrait of the artist as a nude man, narrated in in 24 pictures! Salvation or Nirvana always comes at the end. Who would have thought...'

Antony J on the Couch by Nick S82

I was originally going to title this piece, Couch potato, but there are not really many similarities between Antony J and a lumpy potato. Now... there are other vegetables that would have fit, but I decided Couch Zucchini, although on point, wasn't really a suitable title for a post.

Then again, who's really concerned about post titles when you're enjoying Nick's images of the magnificent Antony J. Given that both Nick S82 and Antony made their FH debuts this past December, they seemed like the perfect combo to start the new month, and the new year with. I featured Nick's images with Connor In The Corner, and Antony and his outstanding set of images with Danny Barson. (Christmas Comes Early)

Nick describes Antony as incredibly easy to work with and was very pleased with the results. Antony had an equally great experience calling Nick a great photographer with some really brilliant ideas. Sometimes the best ideas are simplest ones, focusing on the male form in a situation we can all relate to. In the hundreds of images of Antony that I saw, I was particularly drawn to Nick's series of Antony just chilling on the couch.

I usually don't get home from work most nights until 8 or 9pm and one of my favorite times of the day, is arriving home, doing what I need to do, then taking off as many pieces of clothing as possible, and jumping on the couch to relax before bed. It is during that hour before bed that I have time to work on the blog, catch up on my DVR'd Fargo episodes (finally finished last night) and leave the last 12 hours of work behind. Now, if Antony was on that couch, relaxation might not be possible, but enjoying Nick's images of Nick on the couch are certainly a great way to end, or begin anyone's day. Resolute

Do you measure up? I don't mean your weight or muscles mass index, I mean do you measure up? With all the violence the last 12 months, along with floods, hurricanes and so many senseless deaths you would think caring about others would be at an all time high. Instead, especially during this election year, the only things up are hate, fear mongering and blatant bigotry that has taken America into a time machine, flying back 50 or 60+ decades. New Year's resolutions are in many ways quite self indulgent, all out improving 'ourselves' as if those 10 pounds or that slightly flatter stomach would actually do anything to improve the world around us. My goal this year is to measure up. I don't know exactly what that means just yet, I have a few ideas, and when I get it all figured out, I will be sure to share.

'Light, shadow, texture, and a great model are all the things I need to create a great photo.'

The New Year, whether we like it our not, means change. Our ability to change and adapt to new things is not something all of us are able to do with grace and ease. I know that every time I get a new computer, especially one with a 'newer/better' version of Windows, I spend weeks cursing about how their latest so called advancements. Every time Facebook changes, I simply just curse. I don't think it really matters whether these changes actually makes things easier, the change itself is what stresses us out. We like predictability, and the comfort of doing something we have become familiar with. With everything in our lives out of control, knowing what to expect is both soothing and reassuring.

When I first started FH back in 2007, I wrote every post sitting at an old school desk in my bedroom. When my desktop finally died and I moved to a laptop I continued to work on the blog from that desk for months. It was inconceivable to me that I could every put together a story sitting anywhere but at my desk. Today, almost 9 years later that desk no longer exists, I gave it to my brother about 4 years ago. FH today is put together while I'm on the couch, at the kitchen table, on my bed and even when sitting outside on my front porch.

I guess the bottom line is that sadly, business sometimes knows us better than we know ourselves, and understand that eventually, no matter how much we swear and fight a change, we will usually ultimately not only accept it, but learn to like it. I hated and fought every change with blogger, facebook and countless other sites, but I also know that if I had to go back to working on that computer at that old desk today, I am not sure I could sit there and actually do it.

For an artist, change can not only be difficult, it can sometimes even seem devastating. The process of creating for some can be very specific. Many artists learn what works for them and use the particular piece of equipment, even down to the specific brand, each and every time. Sometimes when a particular product is discontinued, artists can be overwhelmed trying find a suitable replacement.

Although the ingredients, light, shadow, texture and a great model that artist Kevin Kurbs described as needing for a great shoot, may seem to be constants, there have been many changes, both significant, and more subtle, that have created challenges for photographers of the male form. The switch from film to digital may be one of the most significant. This changes not only created dramatic changes in how images were produced and edited, but equally as powerful, how they are shared and displayed. I still profile photographers from time to time who have resisted this change and continue to shoot primarily with film.

Other changes have certainly occurred from advancements in camera and lens technology as well as editing programs that do pretty much everything from removing skin imperfections through manipulating penis size and body parts. With almost everyone able to snap, edit, print and post an images within minutes, the demand for professional photographers has taken a big hit over the last decade or so. Growing up, there were still photography studios in almost every Sears and shopping malls, but it is no rare today to hear of a family heading out in their Christmas sweaters in November for the annual holiday group shot. Some changes do have their perks...

One of the biggest changes going on for all of us, especially for photographers, are changes in lighting. Although hopefully our ability to use natural light will still be around for awhile, studio and indoor lighting have moved for many towards LED. Seattle's Kevin Kurbs has been using LED lighting for awhile now, and for Kevin, it has taken his work to an all new level.

Gazing over Ricky's naked body, the light seems to cascade over his skin more warmly, hit certain places more specificity, and cover more area's on differently parts of his body. Kevin is the first photographer to mention using LED lighting and I will be curious to see how many other artists experiment with the technique. As I stated, once you find something you love, it can be daunting to think about change. It is exciting to think of what's coming. A photographer mentioned just recently experimenting with 3D lighting, and I look forward to seeing how, or if, it changes how the male form is photographed and captured, and presented. I can only imagine that in the not so distant future, we will all have 3D computers and computer screens, enjoying captured moments and much more experiential way.

Favorite Face of The Day: Alex MacNicoll

Anyone who watched season 1 of Amazon's extraordinary series Transparent, remembers the adorable face introduced at the end of the season, that of Colton, played by actor Alex MacNicoll. I loved every second of season 1, and have anxiously awaiting the show's second season to begin. I am about 6 episodes in and although I am still enjoying it, I miss Jeffrey Tambor's Maura being the core of each episode, and although I love the entire family, I am not sure I love the increased attention and emphasis on stand alone story lines for Maura's two daughters. Hopefully they will pull the family together again before I finish the shows last 4 episodes.

One off shoot story I am enjoying is Colton's search to find where he belongs. MacNicoll's Colton is such a unique and beautifully written character, played to perfection by MacNcoll. The New Jersey born actor is incredible at mixing a little lost puppy along with a sexual maturity and knowing soulfulness. I think it's that 'knowing' that shook the Rabbi up so much... Colton's last scene was heartbreaking and I hope he returns before too long.

Alex, far left, played one of the The Kilty Pleasures on the Las Vegas episode of Modern Family. Alex says on his Facebook page that unfortunately they cut out the entire dance that they did.... but the poster lives on!

Below Alex by Stephanie Diani

'Interestingly, the models who had the hardest time with the paddleball were those who had played tennis in high school, college, and beyond. And in one of those coincidental gifts that sometimes happen, actor Alex MacNicoll—who got the hang of the paddleball almost immediately—started telling the crew and me about his crazy sunburn from a weekend trip while showing off his paddling skills. As we were chatting, we realized a sunburned guy in boxer shorts playing paddleball was kind of an awesome variation. Alex was game and ran home to get his (fabulous) red plaid boxers.

Once In A Life Time: Seth Sorenson by Steve Jerome

'Without a doubt, Seth is one of the most beautiful men I have had the pleasure to photograph.'

Under my 'welcome' on the right side of the blog, I write that FH is not just focused on the current, but favorites from years gone by. I think San Diego photographer Steve Jerome is a great example of why only focusing only the here and now would mean missing out on so many incredible images of the male form. Yes, Steve is shooting some of today's hottest men, including Dakota Charles who introduced me to Steve's imagery last November, and Quinn Christopher Jaxon last month. But.. delving into the archives often unearths some of the most stunning of treasures.

I am sure some of you have seen the image above, not one of Steve's, but from photographer Keith Munyan. Many of you who collected Playgirl through the years might recognize the shot from a 2005 special issue of the magazine, Men At The Beach.  That man on the beach is Seth Sorenson, model that Steve had the pleasure of meeting and shooting when Seth had just started to step in front of the camera. Steve shot Seth just after he graced the cover of Men's Fitness, but just before he took off, for taking it all off, for Playgirl Magazine.

'I thoroughly enjoyed his company and loved showing him my hometown of Chicago, enjoying some of the best pizza and Italian food the city has to offer. I recorded almost everything we did and later released a DVD called Seth Sorenson Unedited that was a hit with his fans. I still have copies and like to look back on what I did very early on in my career.'

'Seth came to our Chicago facility when he first started modeling his exceptional good looks and incredible body, but he has since been living and working in San Diego and has developed a large following of adoring fans (for good reason) from all around the world. He also started a successful sports and fitness website that offers advice on how to maintain a healthy, near perfect body.'

Seth has that 'it' factor that photographers, and lovers of images of the male form, saw right away. His incredible body is important of course, but I think it was that face, Seth's beautiful blue eyes and adorable grin, and maybe just a bit of an 'awe shucks', sweet, but not cocky attitude that drew so many fans his way. Seth, who also went under the name of Jeremy Markum, built up a large fan base in the 2000's for his modeling and video work. I am sure that Seth was a part of many our early experiences with the male nude after we started our Google searches for naked men after first getting on the net!

'Seth came to Chicago and spent an entire weekend with me shooting, so we played around with all sorts of images, poses and lighting (studio and natural). He was amazing, to say the least. He was willing to try everything and really opened up during the weekend shoot.'

Young, gorgeous and built, he turned heads everywhere we went.  I remember going to a Tower Records and having him purchase a copy of the fitness magazine that featured him on the cover. The clerk looked up and said, "that's you, isn't it?" and the smile on his face was precious.'

That video Steve shot, Seth Sorenson unedited, was Steve's first foray into video. Steve's first film, The Blue Velvet Video, a softcore video featuring an array of gorgeous men in the buff, won Steve a couple of awards. Thanks to Steve for sharing his early work with Seth, and you can check out more of Steve's images with Seth, and check out the many prints available, on Steve' site HERE:

'Seth is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime find and one stunning example of a man.'

Instagrams That Inspire: Gleb Savchenko

I made a few posts about dancer Gleb Savchenko a couple of years ago when he was on Dancing With The Stars. Sadly for us in North America, the US version of the show did not keep the incredibly hot Russian in America, instead, he danced his way over to the other side of the pond appearing in the UK version, Strictly Come Dancing. Gleb's recent Instagram posting of him relaxing during a Miami holiday had me thinking it time he made a return visit to FH!

If you miss seeing Gleb on your television screens, you can always put him on your wall with his 2016 Calendar, which you can check out HERE:
