'I am proud about my body...and I am a little bit a exhibitionist, like every model ;-)'

Next three images from Ingo Runde

We have all at one time or another had to put together a resume. One of the most important decisions with every resume, is choosing who to use as your references. You want people who not only know your strengths, but you also want someone with expertise in the field that your applying to work in. When it comes to capturing the male form, Robert J Guttke is not only a expert, but someone whose opinion is based on experience and knowledge, and equally important, always brutally honest.

In all of the years that I featured Robert's work, I don't remember him ever recommending a model I check out for FH. So... when Robert suggested I check out the portfolio of German model Marcus_M, I took the suggestion seriously. Given Robert began his capturing of the male form for drawings and sculpture, he has a keen eye for bodies and for models that not only look good, but also have the ability to inspire. Many models have the ability to photography well, but not models stimulate the creative impulses of an artist.

I think one of the reasons for his strength in front of the lens, is the struggle Marcus went through to get to his current physical state. Marcus describes himself as a very skinny teenager. It wasn't until he was 20 that he decided to make a changes and got into bodybuilding and began to sculpt his body to a place he was proud of. Once Marcus obtained the physical form he was happy with, he decided he wanted to have those muscles, that he worked so hard to achieve, photographed. Originally the images were just for himself, but enjoyed showing off his body, and his hard work,

Although Marcus admits he was a little shy in the beginning, especially when taking off all of his clothes for a shoot, he refreshingly admits that he quickly discovered that he was better looking without clothes. After making this discovery, getting naked for the camera, was no longer an issue.

Below: Marcus by Izabella Zborowska

Of course, shooting in the buff isn't without the occasional complication. One of his first shoots was in a waterfall, but... on one of the coldest days of the year. 'It was fucking freezing!' Marcus learned however, that the conditions are less important than who you're working with, and process and results. The shoot, though cold, ended up being a lot of fun, with the resulting images being some of his favorite shots.

Below: Marcus by Linsengericht

Shooting nudes, even outside, isn't as big a deal in Germany for the mos part as it often can be in America. There are often couples and families out and about walking and enjoying the weather and the outside during his location shoot. Marcus doesn't mind, and they get the added bonus of not only getting to enjoy the scenic landscapes, but an naked bodyscape as well.

What part of your body are you most happy with?My shoulders and chest
What part gets the most attention from others?Definitely my ass

Next two images from Lischy

I definitely concur that Marcus' ass is a exquisite work of art. I think many of his poses and images are incredibly artistic and can certainly see why he inspired Robert to recommend I check out his portfolio.. As a model, especially one being a bodybuilder, Marcus is able to express a powerful sensuality. Masculinity and strength mixed with a gentle and quiet beauty.

I think I first noticed Chad Michael Murray when he stripped down to his boxers on Dawson's Creek. While I loved Dawson's, I never really got in to One Tree Hill. That didn't stop me from watching the incredibly hyped early episode of a naked Chad, only covered by a couple of basketballs. The nude scene was a huge tease, yet more than we usually got to see on a network teen drama.

Finally, thanks to Chad's new on demand Indie film, Other People’s Children, and the capping skills of Superherofan, we finally get a peek as to what was behind one of those basketballs. Well worth the wait! Check out more on Superherfofan.net HERE:

Blast From The Past: Bruce Penhall

Although I have certainly heard of the classic television show CHiPS, I don't think that I never seen an episode. I have certainly have never seen an episode with Bruce Penhall, who stepped in during the show's last season after co-star Larry Wilcox left the show. I came upon an image of Penhall when putting together a piece Beat, last summer, and knew he needed a Blast From The Past post of his own.

Penhall may have seemed a perfect replacement given he embodies the California surfer look with his blonde hair and beach body. Penhall is indeed a surfer and former motorcycle racer and had the athleticism required for the role. After the series ended, so pretty much did Penhall's acting career. A few guest spots and straight to video movies followed, but by the late 90's, Penhall's time on screen was pretty much over with his last appearance being in the 1999 CHiPS reunion movie.

Penhall on The Love Boat

Researching images of Penhall proved a pleasant experience. Penhall was rarely shot in a shirt, usually in short, and often on the beach with a surfboard in his hand. Although his time in prime-time was brief, it was memorable enough to have made him a huge hit in teen magazines at the time.

Layers Peeled: Dakota Charles by YogaBear Studio

Dakota by YogaBear Studio (December 2014)

'I love our shoots together, David's an awesome photographer. I always love the pics that come out!'

The modeling world is full of great looking men and women. The internet provides so many avenues for models to showcase their work, but the problem is, even with options to promote your work, differentiating yourself from others, and getting noticed... still remains a challenge. There are certain qualities however, not all of them easily defined, that cause me to stop and take a second second look at certain models and images. Many models bare their bodies, but my favorites, also bare just a little of their soul.

Back in November, I stopped and took more than a second look at photographer Steve Jerome's images of model Dakata Chares. (More Than Initially Meets The Eye) There was something about Dakota, beyond his incredibly sexy physical appearance, that had me wanting to see and share his images. Dakota is incredibly sexy for sure, great body, beautiful hazel eyes and a great smile. And yes.. he also happens to have a magnificently proficient penis that at times, seems to create unique poses all on it's own...

But...it was not just Dakota's physical attributes that grabbed my attention. In addition to beautiful images, FH readers know that I am always looking for a story. The models and photographers whose images I want to see more of, are usually also the ones with stories that peek my curiosity learn more about. In that first set of images from Steve, there was something in his eyes, something both light and care free, and also challenging and maybe a little sad. Dakota's look, and his seductive imperfections, had me seeking out more of his work.

Thankfully, I didn't really have too look to far. Within a couple of weeks of first featuring his work, I noticed an image in Dakota's Model Mayhem portfolio from David from YogaBear Studio. FH readers are familiar with David's work from the previous features that I have done, and I knew instantly, the re-pose image of Dakota, was one of his. David and I started communicating about planning a special shoot for FH, but before that could be arranged, David wrote that Dakota appeared out of nowhere, arriving at David's San Diego studio one day.

Dakota by YogaBear Studio (December, 2015)

David first shot Dakota around this same time last year. It was the holidays that brought Dakota and his wife back to the area near David last year, and again this December to visit family for Christmas. It was Dakota's wife actually, also a model, that first encouraged Dakota to give modeling a try. When he left the navy last year, Dakota acknowledged he was no where close where he needed to be physically in order to step in front of the camera, especially without clothes.

'I've always struggled with a weight problem, as you can see from picture I included (below) from my old days. When I left the navy, I also started to do more physical work. My wife, who was also going through some health issues at the time, decided that she and I both would go on a diet together.'

Dakota shares that they began by cutting out dairy completely and replacing it with almond milk. He also stopped eating meat during the day and instead, began fueling his body with nuts and fruit. He also worked out, not at the gym, but by riding his bike, 3 miles a day, back and forth to his job working as a professional mover.

With all of the changes, Dakota says that he cut weight quickly and was soon feeling better about his body and his appearance. When he felt that he was ready, Dakota decided the time was right to step in front of the camera.  Dakota has modeled both alone, as well as joining his wife for some couple shoots.

Dakota had been shooting for about six months when he shot with David last December. He loved the final results and describes David as a great guy and really great photographer. For me, Dakota and David are a perfect pairing as David's passion has always been more than just capturing just muscle and body parts. David has always gone beyond the surface, uncovering a bit about the man underneath the clothing and what lies beneath the skin. Although the second shoot didn't come with a lot of planning, I love what both model and photographer managed to uncover.

Last year, with FH going into it's 9th year, I decided to theme 2015 with 'behind the scenes'. I tried when I could, to include not only behind the scene stories, but images and out-takes from the shoots that were showcased. Going into 2016, I plan to continue that theme when I can, but without really planning it, over the past few days, a new theme developed.

In the first several featured stories of the year, change has been core to the story, and the images. Kevin Kurbs with light, Steve Jerome with time, Marcus_M with muscle and most certainly today with Dakota. Photography is in many ways all about change, the transformation of an artist's creative idea into it's final visual incarnation. The metamorphosis of the model who walks into the studio and the model who appears in an artist's final image. Often what begins, bares little resemblance to what comes out in the end. The model and photographer in the images shown here has gone through more than a few changes since I first presented him, close to five years ago, frolicking in a meadow. I think you'll enjoy visually joining him on his journey of change in my next update.

In addition to frolicking on the beach in Hawaii, there were several roles in which Grant removed his shirt, removed his pants, and removed it all in one 1980's film. I am sure there are more, but here are a few of my favorites, including Grant showing his scrumptious and round rump in that 80's crime flick.

I was a bit young to really remember Eight Is Enough. I sort of remember watching a few repeats in the mid eighties, but what I really remember is my aunt. My aunt loved the show and taped many episodes onto VHS. I remember asking her for her copy of the show's Christmas episode, Yes, Nicholas. There Is A Santa Claus. She reluctantly loaned it to me, but never asked, nor ever got it back.

I shared this story years ago on FH when I did a tribute to the guys from the show. I was reminded of it again this Christmas when I re-watched part of the episode from my Classic TV Christmas DVD. I say partly, as the episode, and the show itself, doesn't really hold up that well for re-watching 30 plus years later.

I tried watching the first season on DVD, but didn't get past the second episode. Although there were some interesting guest spots, including future Star Wars actor Mark Hamill as the original David Bradford. I might give it a try again, but for now, will stick to what did hold up, to my memories of actor Grant Goodeve.

Even as a young kid I could appreciate the actors many attributes. I love his thick flowing head of hair, his beautifully non manscaped 80's body and his killer smile. I continued to watch Goodeve on television shows through my teens including Northern Exposure, 7th Heaven and Army Wives. Goodeve has not lost his charm, nor his sex appeal. Seeing Grant again this holiday season had me wanting to revisit his work. The post I did back in 2007 required an update, and some new images of the talented and incredibly sexy actor.

The Studio's Most Photographed Model: Alex Corso by New Manhattan Studio

'Model, production assistant, stylist, talent recruiter, chauffeur and friend.'

Soon after I did my first post featuring the work of Wes from New Manhattan Studios, I began hearing wonderful things about model Alex Corso. Wes was excited about his newest model and the projects they were working on. In 2012 and 2013, I featured several pieces featuring with Alex in front of the camera. Alex is dynamic in front of the camera, a sizzling hot body, beautifully expressive eyes and a great face that lights up when he unleashes that killer grin. Below, Wes describes Alex's progression as both a model, as well as his role in the studio. The images, from Alex's third anniversary shoot from 2014.

'Alex and New Manhattan Studios go back almost four years now. His first session with the studio was on April 24, 2012, when he was 23. By the end that first summer, Alex had become a regular model for the studio. Two trips were made into the Catskills that August that resulted in the studio’s first publication, Sunset Meadow. And by Labor Day weekend of that year, we had started the first of our work in Westchester county, in the Hudson River town of Cortlandt Manor, leading to a second book to feature some of Alex's images.'

'Pursuing a career as a physique and underwear model, this Colombian-born New Yorker has worked with dozens of photographers in New York City, Northeast, California and Florida, including some of the best fashion and physique photographers in the business. In short order, this classic Latin beauty became the studio’s most-photographed model.'

'With his ever-cheerful presence always welcome in the studio, Alex started working as an assistant and stylist in early 2013 and by year’s end he had worked more sessions behind the camera than in front. (And that's no small accomplishment, given that we have had more than a dozen formal sessions with Alex.) Model, production assistant, stylist, talent recruiter, chauffeur and friend, Alex has become the studio’s right hand. '

In many of my subsequent pieces, starting with Claudiu in 2014, although not seen on camera, it was clear that Alex was still an important part of the story. Alex continued to model, including for many of FH's favorite contributors: Mike Tossy, Gordon Nebeker, Keith Ingram, studioMGphotography and Rick Day, it was clear his role at NMS was growing and evolving. In fact, I became so fascinated with Alex, and his role in the many 'behind the scenes' images that Wes sent on, it motivated me to make it a recurring theme for the blog. In so many ways, Alex's role so beautifully, and visually represented what I have been attempting to do since first beginning FH 9 years ago.

Today's post is but an introduction to much longer story. One I am excited to be able to present visually on FH. Check back over the weekend to read, and of course see more, of Alex's story and journey at NMS.

The Pre-eminent: Al Pacino

Al PacinoDanny Collins as Danny Collins

I started out looking for a couple of shots of actor Al Pacino to add, as I did with all of the actors, for his category. I was struck by two things however when looking for images. First, what a beautiful face Al has, especially when he was younger. Secondly, how few Pacino movies I have actually seen. Sure I could remember a few, I just watched Scent Of A Woman again a few weeks ago. But... I had not seen many of his most acclaimed roles, I have in fact, not ever ever seen The Godfather.

I know I know, not seeing The Godfather seems ridiculous, especially for a film lover like myself. I DVR'd it once, but deleted it before watching. I know many who feel it is one of the industries best films and I really must find the time to watch it this year. In the meantime however, I thought Mr. Pacino needed a bit more attention than his fellow nominee's.

I have given him very little attention on FH, and in looking for images, I was also curious to find out more about his 1980 turn in Cruising. Cruising seems to be the only film Pacino has really shown any skin in. I had read he also did a nude scene in The Panic in Needle Park, but with the exception of a very brief tip of his ass crack in a shower scene, I couldn't see anything. Here is as much skin as I could find of the usually covered up Mr. Pacino.
