A Longtime Collaboration: Aaron Mark by male2male

In the decade that I have been working on FH, Between Two Oceans remains one of the most memorable photo essay's I have had the pleasure to feature. The 2012 piece featured photographer Eckhard from male2male, and his breathtaking images of Ric. The shoot took place on a nude beach in the northern part of Germany, right between two 'oceans', the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

I love the shoot for so many reasons, including Eckhard's brilliance at blending a visually impressive location with the nude male form. Eckhard didn't just shoot a naked Ric on a beach, the beach, as well as the sun, water and sand were all beautifully weaved into the essence of the images, and not just as convenient background. My favorite photographers capture their subjects not in, or in front of a location, but capture the interacting with it, enabling the viewer to feel the same heat of the sun, and coarseness of the sand as the model.

I recently found myself back to that piece, and back to Eckhard's port. This time, it was his images of Aaron Mark that grabbed my attention. Location certainly plays a role in many of Eckhard's images of Aaron, but Aaron is a performer and his talent shines through in every shot. Many models, not as skilled with inhabiting a role, sometimes take awhile to seamlessly interact with costumes, props and character. Aaron nails it every time with an intense sexual energy and attitude regardless of whether he's channeling a cop, a sailor or a guy on the hunt in his short shorts.

Eckhard has worked with Aaron many times over the last 15 years. When their collaboration began, Aaron was a student in Hamburg, Germany. At that time Eckhard recalls that digital wasn't on the market yet. So, some of the shown studio-images had been shot on film, with the developing, editing and printing done by Eckhard in his own lab. When digital came out, Eckhard switched to newer equipment, including APS-C and full frame cameras.

Most of the images of Aaron featured here, were taken after Eckhard switched to digital equipment. One of the big advantages with digital, is that Eckhard could show Aaron the images right away. Eckhard shares that Aaron is always anxious to see the results, and tends to be a little bit impatient when it comes to waiting for the results. No wonder, because he knows that when working with Eckhard, something great is going to emerge from every one of their shoots together.

One of the locations used in this set, was the basement of an old factory. Eckhard recalls that he decided spontaneously to give the location a try, despite it being a very dirty environment. In addition to all that the dirt, the lighting also wasn't great that day. Aaron was on board though, and posed in and on the garbage and dirt, completely naked, without complaint. 'Because it was so exciting he wanted to see the results after he had climbed out of that filthy basement. Thanks to digital I could show him - and he went right back down there, doing some more poses, many even more erotic than the ones we initially had planned.'

'The big advantage of a longtime collaboration is, that model and photographer know that they can trust each other, know what each of us has to offer and that the results are to the benefit of both. This is the basis on which Aaron and I worked together. Trustful and open-minded.'

After many years of working together in Germany, there was a pause in their collaborations. Eckhard had moved to Vancouver, and Aaron moved to Las Vegas. After about six years, both returned to Germany and the positive experiences of their past shoots was again revived. As you can see from these images, the connection was still as strong. Aaron's poses are exceptional, strong and directly erotic all superbly captured by Eckhard.

'It was always fun to work with Aaron as a model- and it still is. Aaron is handsome, gentle, open-minded, open for experiments and very disciplined. One of the many plus-sides of Aaron is, that he is always eager to keep his body in shape.'

FaVorite FiVe: Jan-Michael Vincent

With the exception of Big Wednesday, I don't think I've seen any of actor Jan-Michael Vincent's films. Regardless, whenever I see an old image of him, I can't help but think what a sexual presence he had when he was younger. There are men who are good looking, there are men that are handsome or sexy. Vincent was sexual, possessing an angry raw sexuality that although you may not want to live with, you certainly wanted to visit now and then.

Vincent retired from acting in the early 2000's and has battled addition and medical issues since. I did a quick google search, and like everyone in their seventies, he looks older, but Vincent also shows the wear and tear he put his body through, including several car accidents. He also had part of one leg amputated due to infection. I thought of Vincent last week after seeing an old shirtless shot on a tumblr and although I did an old Blast From the Past post back in 2008, I decided he required another look with my faVorite fiVe.

Hush Hush Sweet Johnathon

I have long lusted after actor Johnathon Schaech, but we can thank Jessica Lange, (or maybe we should thank Joan Crawford) for inspiring this Actors & Skin feature on Jonathon. I have been mesmerised watching Lange's portrayal of Crawford in Feud. Sarandan is good, but Lange's understated, but nuanced turn as Joan Crawford as been a highlight. My first introduction to Crawford was Mommie Dearest, and it was only the past year or two I have seen the actual actress on film. After Dearest, it is nice to see Lange really highlight the icon's quirks by brilliantly focusing on the quieter moments.

Feud had me keeping an eye out for older Lange films on the movie channel. I have seen most of her big movies, including her turn in King Kong, which I felt was fare better than Peter Jackson's green screen reliant remake. I had never seen 1998's Hush though, until last weekend. The film has a few similarities to Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, with a wacko main character tormenting another woman. In Hush, Lange played the wacko and although the movie got dismal reviews, I found it enjoyably bad enough to watch.

'Even in the world of bad movies, there are rules of engagement. Bad like Showgirls bad can be enjoyable. Bad like Hush (TriStar) bad is just depressing, a grim chore: When you watch this failed horror thriller — which has been under studio doctors’ care for some two years, undergoing futile title changes and reshoots — there’s no respite from the odor of flop sweat stinking up the screen'

Unlike Showgirls, which I enjoy re-watching now and then, only a drinking game would have me watching Hush again. There were so many odd edits and cuts that there are many thing to drink to. The changing sizes of Paltrow's baby bump was laughably noticeable, and if you took a shot every time Paltrow went from wearing a wig to her natural hair, you would be drunk before too long.

I did not know when I started to watch that Lange's son was played by the oh so beautiful Johnathon Schaech. Paltrow's wig aside, he held my sole focus each time he was on scene. Johnathon is so stunning, one can hardly hold his Southern Mama's burning loin's against her. She wasn't exactly subtle, hosing her shirtless son down in one the films most ridiculous, yet gratifying scenes.

Hosed

Feud had me looking to work my way through Jessica Lange's body of work, and Hush has me wanting to work my way through Jonathan...and his body of work! I think I'm going to start with That Thing You Do, How to Make an American Quilt and by the looks of the scene in the skin piece below, Poison Ivy 2 seems a must...

Modus Operandi: Brandon by Felix d'Eon

'If the path be beautiful, let us not ask where it leads.'
Anatole France

Anyone who creates, who builds, who sculpts, draws, paints or photographs, to me, must love the process. When I used to act, I really didn't enjoy the end result, the stage performances. What I loved was the rehearsals. Working through the character and script and putting together what would finally be seen. I never understand when I read that a famous actor doesn't like to rehearse. To me, that means their true love isn't necessarily acting, but performing.

It is a subtle difference, but an important one for artists. Most artists don't spend the majority of their time standing in front of their finished work awaiting feedback and applause. Those who do, tend to be frequently disappointed. Most of their time is spent working and creating. Coming up first with a vision, then figuring out how to best transfer it to a finished visual. It is my love for this process that drives my continuing FH, and the behind the scene and process driven themes that I love to explore.

Artist Felix d'Eon has created thousands of completed art pieces. Colorful and erotic art pieces celebrating the male form. You can check out many of them on Felix's many sites and social media platforms, many featured on his etsy site HERE: or check out some of my favorites on The OVER-FLOW HERE: Felix calls his love of art, music and the male form more than passion, an addiction, one with an all encompassing process he has no interest in quitting.

Who can blame him. Felix's days are spent working with interesting and beautiful naked men in the process of creating his vision. I first discovered the Mexican artists work back in 2012 and was overwhelmed with how much of his process he shared. If you check out Felix's site, his blog, his tumblrs and social media sites, you will see how filled they are with method, process and technique.

I loved viewing Felix's unedited behind the scenes shots of his models posing, and then comparing them with finished art pieces. Sometimes the model's pose is replicated in a drawing or painting, other times, just an arm position or body angle is transferred and used. If you check out the 'blog' link on Felix's main site, you will scroll page after page of process images, often accompanied by the resulting art work.

'As a child, the books my mother bought for me were antique; books from the turn of the last century, up through the 50’s and 60’s. I think she bought me books which she herself was drawn to, and consequently, my vision of the world was formed by these books from an early age. I’m thinking of Edwardian editions of Hans Christian Anderson and One Thousand and One Nights, the illustrated books of Arthur Rakham, and the old fashion magazines from the 20’s and 30’s.'

You can feel the books and time periods Felix mentions above within his images, and I love how they contrast with the modern look of the process photographs that act as inspiration. I was going to initially choose several final art pieces, and showcase them along with process shots. There were so many however, it became overwhelming. Although I will be featuring more in the future, I thought it best to start with one model, and Brandon was an easy choice.

The first shot of Brandon I saw was was on E-Bay last year. The drawing, entitled, in the Locker room, is the first drawing at the top of this story. I remembered the shot when I was recently going through Felix's site and when I came upon some behind the scenes shots, knew that he was the perfect subject to highlight Felix's work. Brandon appears very comfortable just hanging around the studio naked, posing and sometimes even assisting with lighting and set up when required.

Warren Cole: Arresting

The first time I noticed actor Warren Kole was during his time playing Roderick, the killing sheriff from the Kevin Bacon series The Following. I took quick notice of Kole's beautiful face and body, not to mention his talent as an actor. I am not watching Shades of Blue....yet, but it's great to see Kole getting a lot of well deserved attention for his role of the Harlee (Jennifer Lopez) obsessed FBI Agent Robert Stahl.

Kole has made a career out of playing cops, sheriff's, FBI agents and every form of men in blue. Kole has the ability to weave in and out of playing good cops, and more often the bad side of the law. Kole has been a fixture on television since for close to 15 years with regular roles in White Collar, 24, Mental, The Chicago Code and maybe his most well known role in short lived Common Law. If you follow Kole on Twitter, his tag line, Suitably Shady, perfectly sums up his current role and career.

Keeper: On the Field with Soccer Model

'I am a 23 year old feminist into kink, soccer, 420 and gaming. I have a dry witty sense of humour similar to Monty Python and adore surrealist comedy and satire.'

3 photos below from Zed Photography

I never played soccer, not competitively anyway. For me, it was hockey in the winter, baseball in the summer, and basketball in between. I had a good friend who played, and I spent many Saturday's hanging around the fields while he played. Much like a hockey player on the ice, soccer is a combination of opportunity and the dance. There is nothing more beautiful, than the lightening fast, intricate and graceful moves required to move a soccer ball any distance down the field during a game. So... when I stumbled upon a model with the credit 'Soccer Model', it was imperative I find out a little more.

25 year old Ryan is actually a soccer player, so obsessed with the sport that he credits soccer with inspiring a temporary model name when he first joined Model Mayhem. He planned on changing it, maybe something to better symbolise his work as a model, but it's been awhile and the name seems to be sticking. Modeling has another connection with Soccer for the British Columbia based model, it helps inspire him to keep getting on that field to stay in shape for any modeling gigs that arise.

'Working with both Shannon Lester and Zaheer Sukhnandan (Zed) have been fantastic. I worked only with Zed once but he was professional and really showed me what could be produced with skill. We did full makeup, body paint etc and I have my best shots from him. Shannon and I have worked together on multiple shoots. He is a friend who works in the community. His shoots are much more relaxed but we still produce great shots. I am really thankful for his help in beginning my career as he was the first to shoot me professionally. He is also working a painting of me based on some of our shoots together.'

Remaining images from Shannon Lester

Ryan shares that modeling was just a dream until a couple of years ago when Shannon Lester made him an offer to shoot. Initially Ryan was very nervous, but the shoot ended up going well and was a great experience. Soon after, Ryan created Soccer Model on Model Mayhem and sought out shoots in Vancouver, Ottawa and Kelowna and now has a few paid shoots under his belt. Ryan credits MM with helping connect him with some great artists, and except for a few shady offers to fly to strange places, without very much information, the experience thus far has been very positive. I was curious however, how the blonde haired blue eyed all Canadian soccer played decided to take it all off for some intensely sexual shots. (Which you can see a bit more of on THE OVER-FLOW)

'The decision to model nude erotic etc has never been difficult for me as I am a very open sexual person. I worried about what friends and family might say for only a moment as it is my life. My girlfriend also models as well which helped. I am very comfortable with my body and others view on it. If i can create funds through modeling it is a dream come true. While posing naked I am just focused on working with the photographer to get them the best shots they need. I feel it is a great profession so bringing it up is very easy. We should all be naked!'

'I am most proud of my legs, eyes, and genitals. I feel my genitals get the most attention in shoots of an erotic nature. I think I enjoy modeling because I am vain, love to show off, am proud of my body but in addition love the art that is created though modeling. I love seeing myself in different ways, different shoots who I can become etc. I also enjoy the process of lighting, posing etc. Editing the photos is very fun. Modeling also represents another career path for me as I have not chosen a career yet.'

I was very much intrigued by this series of shots of Ryan by Shannon Lester, especially after Ryan shared how open he is to having his body enjoyed by others. Although I am not sure it was intended, I found myself drawn into a tale of first nights and voyeurism. The apartment location was sparse, with little furniture or senses of home. It was also as if Ryan had just moved in and was spending his first night in his own place. We all know that feeling, of finally being out on our own. No parents or siblings to bother us, we have the time, the space and privacy, to explore our sexual urges.

We don't know any of our neighbours, so after shutting the door, we're all alone. No cable or internet, they're not being installed to tomorrow, so with the exception of picking up a magazine, there isn't a whole lot to do on that first night except exploring and enjoying our body within it's new environment. Getting up and off in every new nook and cranny, touching and caressing in a far more intensely and sexual way than we ever would have felt comfortable doing in the childhood bedroom we shared with our younger brother.

Of course the climax of our first night alone was trying out the new shower. Letting the hot water, our hot water, caress over our skin. No siblings knocking at the door to 'hurry', nor any parents complaining about not having any hot water after you were done. Even though there was a lock on the bathroom door at home, it was never truly safe as tube of a ballpoint pen could that lock, and often did when you were in there.

Despite the new environment, the odd noises and smells.. and despite not yet having a bed, and just a blanket on the floor, you have the best nights sleep of your life. Although you loved your night alone, and the privacy it provided, you also look forward to the first night you can share the experience with another. Having pushed the boundaries the night before, you rise to meet the day in your new home, turning on your new (used) coffee maker, a housewarming gift from one of your aunts. As you wait for the coffee to be ready, you walk around your apartment, naked, getting the feel for the place with the light of the morning.

You see the piece of paper under your door, and at first can't really believe what you're seeing. Each shot, a replication of a place you had christened the night before, he poses and movements you had thought were only for yourself. Your body drawn on point, as if someone had been right in front of you at every stage. Initially mortified, you wonder how you could have been seen, through a window, a crack in a wall, maybe a hole in the ceiling? As you stare more at the artist's work you realize the image you are staring at was passionately created and gifted by someone who obviously...enjoyed their view. So... instead of heading out to purchase dark blinds or spackle... instead of making a frantic call to your landlord or the police, you just stand, smile and anticipate the added element of excitement now a part of tonight's apartment exploration.
