That 70s Skin

When I used to watch That 70s Show during it's original run, my main crush was definitely Eric. (Topher Grace) I thought he was adorable, and loved his long skinny legs. I was in my early 20's during that time, and my tastes have gone through some changes. I recently caught a few old episodes on TV and although Eric is still cute, it is now all about Kelso. (Ashton Kutcher) Hyde and Fez have certainly gotten sexier to me, but Kelso is hilarious and obscenely hot in his tight 70's t-shirts.

Most of the guys had shirtless scenes, and the writers also managed to frequently get Eric, Fez and Kelso in their undies. Given it was the 70's, the cool high school students mostly sported briefs. I also remember that although the show was on the FOX Network, there was a week bit of butt cleavage in a couple of episodes. Tracking them down was a little difficult but unless I missed one, there were just two. Both Kelso and Hyde, (Danny Masterson) gave us a bit of crack in the shows first couple of seasons.

Eric

Love those skinny legs! Eric was often in his briefs, but his most daring scene was the season 1 episode where the guys were going to streak at a Nixon rally. All but Eric bailed, and although he was 'happy faced', he still showed much of his long lean form. Eric also had a fun scene mooning Donna a couple of seasons later, but the show didn't even give us a crack, keeping a big red ball over his butt.

Fez

Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) was often in his undies, and look pretty hot in his black undies as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in season 2's Halloween episode. I especially liked the scene below in which a drunken Fez strips down, heads out into the snow, then collapses, package in the air, on the couch.

Hyde

I was not a fan of Hyde when I first watched. My problem with Hyde is that he is written as 'the cool one', but in reality is actually pretty mean to most of the others. I gave grown to appreciate his appeal (especially in season 1) during the second go around. The caps from the scene below are actually pretty daring for a network show. In the Halloween episode, Hyde Rear Windows Fez who is watching with binoculars from next door.

Kelso

Kelso gets naked, or close to naked many times on the show, including a brief it of butt cleavage in the shot below. My favorite scene was the one shown in the last two caps. Kelso is taking off everything that Jackie gave him, which means he ends up in his undies for a fairly long and hilarious scene.

As One With Nature by Mark Leighton

'Sixteen male models, as nature intended, on beautiful beaches.'

Going back to 2008, I have been lucky to have featured many of those sixteen models on FH, thanks to the generosity and support of photographer Mark Leighton. As One With Nature is Mark's new photo book that he calls a sort of retrospective on the many models he has shot along the scenic beaches ad coast of Lagos as well as some of the other incredible locations Mark has visited on his photographic vacations.

I am not sure Mark could have come up with a more perfect name for the book than At One With Nature. Every time I feature Mark's work, I am reminded how seamlessly Mark blends the model and location that he is shooting. Many photographers 'take' models to the beach to shoot. The beach is a natural environment for people to be wearing little or no clothing, so it makes sense to use a beach location when shooting the male form.

Many of these photographers however, don't seem to see the beach as more than a backdrop, and the images fail to really resonate. It's like when film producers and directors use green screen. Sometimes it works, but more times than not, it rings false. You know what you're supposed to see and feel, yet you know what you're seeing is not real.

The authenticity Mark creates, comes from connection, both his, and model's, connection to their environment. The men move, feel and interact with their environment like it's a part of them. Not a beach they are visiting, but a place they belong. You can feel the sand on their bodies and sun on their skin and the coolness and energy of the incoming waves. Mark's images are also beautifully timeless and he is very careful with his use of fashion, props and 'extras'. You rarely seen anything in Mark's images that point to a date or period of time.

As One With The Natureis available in hard copy form, and as well as digital download which is available immediately. Head over to Blurb and check out a preview of the book HERE:

Some of you, if you'be been search the net for FaVorite Hunks for while, recognize the model, and images in this post. This shoot in fact, was one of the first shoots that I saved and that inspired me to start my old FH group and eventually this site. I believe it came from old site called Boystation that no longer seems to be active. I loved the models look, his hair, his body and how the photographer so beautifully captured him. I especially loved the beach shots.

I did a small post featuring the few images I had back in 2008. The other day, I came upon a site which featured not all, but many more images from both the studio and beach sets. For those who remember the shoot, or those who are just discovering, check out the old post HERE: I updated the post with close to 20 larger images than were there in the original version.

Actors & SKIN: Brian Kerwin

The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo (1980)

I didn't really think there was enough material for an Actors & Skin piece on Brian Kerwin. When I started, I thought his role in 1985's Murphy's Romance was his only nude scene. In the flick, Kerwin plays Sally Field's ex, and there is brief butt scene as he is heading into the shower. Given how it's filmed, I also wondered if that butt actualy belonged to Kerwin. A little research however, was able to give me another butt scene that I could compare...

Wet Gold (1984)

Although no nudity, Kerwin has shown a fair bit of skin on television. In 1984's Wet Gold, Kerwin stars along with Brooke Shields and 80's hottie Tom Byrd in a tv movie set mostly on a boat. Although I haven't seen the movie, the few Youtube clips that watch, showed that Kerwin and Byrd were shirtless for much of the movie.

Stripping off his suit on The Love Boat (1981)

Kerwin played a stripper when he went cruising, stripping town to some shiny briefs. Thanks to Scenes of Male Skin for the clip.

Murphy's Romance (1985)

Hometown U.S.A (1979)

Sooo, that comparative butt scene.... A little searching told me Kerwin had another butt scene in 1979's Hometown U.S.A. In the American Graffiti knock off, Kerwin puts on his James Dean, and his red leather jacket, to play T. J. Swackhammer. In the film, Kerwin has his beautiful thrusting butt, shown in the same scene as his face.

I first noticed Brian Kerwin in 1990 during his time playing Jackie's boyfriend on Roseanne. 'Gary' was initially seen as the perfect guy for Jackie, and the blonde and beautiful Kerwin certainly fit the bill. Gary's dark side quickly came out, and I remember being shocked at his abusive turn and impressed at the performances from Kerwin and Laurie Metcalf.

Kerwin with Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne)

I think the next time I saw Kerwin, it was a few years later when he was starring along side Michelle Pfeiffer in Love Field. Googling Brian a few years later led to my learning more about his impressive career. Kerwin has done it all, stage, screen and television. On stage, he has appeared in classics such as August: Osage County, The Little Foxes and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. He also appeared on stage in Harvey Fierstein written Torch Song Trilogy, and went on to play Ed in the film adaptation.

On television, Kerwin has starred in soaps, sit-coms and dramas, epic mini-series and television movies. Brian has appeared on some of television's biggest hits of the eighties ranging from St. Elsewhere through a turn on The Love Boat. His biggest claim to fame on TV was most likely his role as Deputy Birdie Hawkins on the short lived BJ & the Bear spin-off, The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo

Kerwin is one of those actors who has worked steadily since starting in Hollywood in the 70's. In addition to his impressive stage and TV resume, on screen Kerwin has worked with some of Hollywood's biggest stars including; Pfeiffer, Sally Field, Diane Lane, Robin Williams, Julianne Moore, Sissy Spacek.

Sheriff Lobo

Like so many of the actors I have featured, Kerwin is another of those actors that really deserved more acclaim and fame that he has received. Kerwin has been in huge Oscar winning films like The Help, and big stinkers like King Kong Lives. Having seen The Help, it was the latter I had to find and watch when I began to put together this piece.

With Matthew Broderick and Harvey Fierstein in Torch Song Trilogy (1988)

The Blue & the Gray (1982)

King Kong Lives (1986)

I love a bad monster movie and King Kong Lives is B A D! The 1986 sequel to the 70's King Kong features Kerwin and Linda Hamilton trying to save both Kong, and a new female ape discovered in the jungle by Kerwin's character. As bad as the story and special effects were, I had fun watching the flick and especially like the role reversal with Kerwin being 'the damsel in distress'. It wasn't Linda Hamilton picked up and loved by the new ape, it was Kerwin who had her total affection.

Aaronic Configuration by Noplacia

'I have photographed a couple hundred men who come from a variety of backgrounds. I have worked with a guy who installs air conditioners, a bull rider, a few military veterans, rock climbers, MMA fighters, ex-convicts, heroin addicts and many other people who didn't really think of themselves as models. I hope my art conveys how beautiful and intriguing each one of them are.'

Last month, when putting together Noplacia's work with Warren Russell (DirtRoad), I also included for the first time some of photographer Gary Larson's drawings of Warren. (Erotic Authenticity) Each time that I have done a piece on Gary's images of Warren I have been intrigued by the pose and shot choices made. When Gary shared that most of his work as a photographer was actually part of his drawing process, the interesting body positions he captured made it all come together.

Gary prefers to shoot a model, then work on the drawings later. This way, Gary can create his art on his own time using the photos as a reference. 'This way, I can put on some music and take all the time I want to experiment and create the art.' Sometimes, the drawings come out looking similar to the photographs, sometimes, it can be one pose or body gesture that inspires a drawing. This month, Gary's drawings will be on display for a show at the God Hates Robots gallery in Salt Lake City

'Aaronic Configuration tells stories about 25 men exhibited in his work. Relying on hundreds of photos he captured of the models, G. S Larson transfers their forms on to colorfully textured backdrops. Hints of emotion, bits of back-story and details about the interactions held between the artist and his models come through in this narrative approach to depicting the male figure.'

Gary's show opens on May 19th and runs through June 9th. If you're in the Salt Lake City area, drop by and check it out! With his show about to open, I asked Gary about where his love of figure drawing came from, and asked for some photographs to include with the drawings. The process piece is always of interest to me and I love viewing the raw unedited images along with the completed art piece. Gary puts his stamp on his drawings so beautifully in his work. It is especially fascinating to me how the depth of emotion, and complexities of the man drawn, seem so much starker, and more real in Gary's drawings than in the images that inspire them.

'I'm a fan of art that is about people. I found a book of figure drawings by Rodin at a bookstore in Berlin around 2002 that captivated me. I later collected many other books of figure drawings by Klimt, Schiele, Matisse and other artists from the last century. Their work inspired me to want to create figure-based art as well. I first worked with women because I knew a few that were willing to pose, but I really wanted to work with the sex that was less represented in figure art. With some practice I started finding men willing to pose and I started figuring out my method.'

'The photoshoots are a collaboration between the models and I. We both bring ideas to the table and try to capture the model in their best form. I could print out the photos and be done, but I prefer to put the photos through one more filter by creating the drawings. That way I am putting a little more of myself in the work. The finished pieces then have complexity to them. They say something about me because I made the color, composition and model choices. They also document the interaction the models and I had. Most importantly, they are portraits of an interesting human being who came to the project with emotions, personality and a lot of past experiences.'

May 20th is a huge day for Birthday's of some of my FaVorite Hunks. With all those hot men blowing candles today, I didn't want to leave out Cher, who is also blowing out 71 of those suckers today. Initially I was going to feature Cher in my birthday post and loved the classic shot above of Cher and two of her backup dancers. The shot looks to be from the 70's or early 80's and had me thinking about featuring the changing look of male backup dancers over the decades.

That themed proved a bit overwhelming for this week, but saluting some of today's DIVA's hottest backup dancers seemed a bit more doable. Male backup dancers don't often get a lot of love. Some, like Kylie's below, have gotten a bit of on-line attention, but you know... they all have stories to tell. I hope if there isn't one already in the works, someone is planning a documentary on this usually nameless, but incredibly talented and hard working show business group.

Kylie Minogue's backup dancers in DNA

It was sort of surprising to me how many DIVA's have had romantic relationships with one of their hunky backups. Ariana, Madonna, Mariah, J-Lo have all had short lived roles in the hay with one of the dancers in their shows. Most of these relationships were not long lasting, and rarely did they lead to a walk down the isle, except for one notable exception..... that has a fun connection to birthday girl Cher.

Rita Ora

Ok, I had not heard of British Singer Rita Ora until I was 'googling' backup dancers, but the backup in question, and his incredible legs, as Glenn Close would say, could not be ignored.

Britney and Chase Benz

Kevin Federline

That notable exception to that marriage rule is Kevin Federline who married Spears in 2004. Federline began his 'career' as one of Spears backup dancers and a little searching led me to fairly notable backup Federline performance. In the 2002 Will & Grace episode, Artificial Insemination, Federline went un-credited (except for IMDB) in his angel wings as one of Cher's backup angels. I am not 100% positive, but I think Kevin has to be the dancer directly behind Cher on the right. (left in the bottom image)

Towel Dried by Male Beauty by bengie

'Hung out to dry'

With the blast of heat that hit the North East this week, many of us switched up our hot showers, for cool ones. When featuring shower themed shots from Male Beauty by bengie however, regardless of the water temperature, it's bound to get steamy. As his handle indicates, the beauty that bengie captures, either when wet, or when dry, is uniquely male. Strong, virile and statuesque examples of masculinity.

I first pulled back the shower curtain, featuring bengie's shower shots last last year. (Dripped) For that first set of images, we joined the men that bengie was shooting near the end of their shower, while moist drops of water cascade down and over their firm naked bodies.

Today's set of shots were snapped closer to near the end of the shower, the climatic culmination of the cleaning, just after the fluids have stopped flowing and the taps...have been turned off.   Once the liquid is turned off, it is time to dry off and clean up.

The drying off part of a shower is an important part of the process. There is nothing worse than being in a humid environment, or being in so much of a hurry that you have to get dressed with your skin not completely dry. The drying off piece tends not to be photographed as often, but as you can see from bengie's images, are visually, an equally erotic part of the process.

Jacob Dillon: Along A Beaten Track

'Clothing is a just a separation between your skin and its surroundings. Sometimes we just need to connect.'

The first time I profiled model Jacob Dillon, there wasn't a stitch of clothing in sight. (Self-Propelled) Just Jacob's beautiful body and his incredible self portraits. But a guy's got to put on clothes once and in awhile, especially a working stiff. Since that first story in January, Jacob has been slipping on his skivvies, (sometimes.... inside out with the tag out, as you can see in he image above) for his new job at TheMensUnderwearStore.com.

For many, wearing just underwear to work might seem freeing. A nice change from dress clothes or the suits and ties required by many professions. For Jacob however, the suit he is most comfortable in, is his birthday suit, especially when heading outside to shoot. Since first discovering his work, I have enjoyed following Jacob and his photographic journeys on his social media pages, especially his recent shoot on the train tracks

There are various themes and locations that stimulate me visually. Most FH readers know I love visual imagery which include windows, stairways and old abandoned buildings and structures. Railway tracks have now joined that list. Over the past several years I have been fortunate to feature the work of many artists and models who have used train tracks as a location for their work. There are many reasons why the railway tracks trigger a fascination in me, one of the strongest being their history.

The tracks near my home have not had a train on them for almost 15 years, yet.. they remain. The wood pieces are worn, and grass and weeds sprout up through the side tracks. The path way remains clear however, worn from the many dogs, bikes and walkers that regularly use them. Those tracks, now recreational, were once the main entry and exit for both people, and goods and services that came in and out of my town. The railway was at one time, the town's main employer and many of the people now using the path have a long history with it's mostly forgotten past.

Signs of the past are every where you look, adding to a sense of mystery I feel when walking the path. The tracks near my home have many twists and turns and flanked by farm land on one side, and a river and woods on the other. You never really know what you're going to see as you turn each corner. Sometimes the fields are completely baron, other times, herds of cows are lined up to watch you walk by. Mostly those woods are empty, but occasionally, especially in the evening, there might be a few teenagers hanging around, usually leaving behind empty beer cans, chip bags and a condom or two.

The river is sometimes full of ice, sometimes rushing wildly by and sometimes...perfect still. I have seen otters, river rats and because it's source is the ocean, even the odd seal swim by. Although trains no longer zoom through the area, I can't help but think that the passengers who once rode them, saw pretty much the same sites decades ago that I see as I walk the tracks today. Without any intent, all of this history manages to visually manifests itself within any images taken.

Although the area in which Jacob shot looks to be still functional, you can still feel the past in the worn wood, the rust and weathered appearance of the tracks. I love how the energy and interactions of the human body, especially a naked body, is able to bring a burst of life into medal, stone and wood.  For the brief moments that he is connecting, Jacob doesn't just capture his environment, he revives it.

Einsamkeit und Sex und Mitleid

First two shots from Mario Testino

We have seen plenty of Eugen Bauder skin with his modeling career, but thus far we haven't seen a whole lot on the big screen. Eugen, who has been acting professionally since 2010, hits the big screen this May in the German film, Einsamkeit und Sex und Mitleid. According to the trailer and an image on IMDB, Eugen shows some skin, his butt in fact is front and center on the film's poster. In addition, readers of the book share that if they follow the story, there should be much more...

I love the film's title, Einsamkeit und Sex und Mitleid translated to English means Loneliness and Sex and Compassion. The film centers on the lives of a group of inhabitants living in the heart of a German city whose lives collide in various ways though out the film. Clearly, one of the female characters has the pleasure of colliding with Eugen.

Blast from the Past: Tim Van Patten

Sometimes the men I feature in Blast from the Past are actors who I noticed, watched or were a part of my childhood. Others appear without planning, when I see an image or project that triggers a memory. That is the case with Tim (Timothy Van Patten). While looking for images for another piece, an image of Tim popped up in my google search. It was the incredibly hot shot of Tim, shirtless, with a jean jacket on his shoulder at the end of this piece.

The image, in addition to Tim's hot stomach and chest, reminded me of the Van Patten family. I initially thought Tim was one of Dick's sons, but quickly learned he is actually Dick's younger half-brother, with over 30 years separating the two. Although Tim has that distinct Van Patten face, I remember him mostly from pictures and although am familiar with the old Ken Howard show, The White Shadow, I never saw it, and am pretty sure I haven't seen any other of Tim's acting appearances either.

I do know Tim's work as a director as he moved to the other side of the camera in th 90's and has directed some of my favorite shows including; Now and Again, Sex and the City, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. Tim has also written and directed multiple episodes of The Sopranos. Tim's directing has led to 10 prime time Emmy nominations with a win for Boardwalk Empire's 2011 episode, To The Lost.
