Washed Ashore by Richard Rothstein

'Our goal is take the viewer far beyond nudes and erections, far beyond 'penis.'

Early last month, I featured the first part of photographer Richard Rothstein's recent work with Tyler. In addition to the the images, Richard also shared his process and goal to capture images that spark a change, and move the way that the aroused penis is so often captured and viewed. In some ways, this final series of shots is a beautifully transformation ending, but in a way, it is also a birth, a beginning.

Richard's images of Tyler emerging from the ocean, rising out of the water and out of his flight suit is very much like a moulting, the shedding of not only clothing, but previously preconceived ideas and notions connected to male sexuality and the physical process of messages from the brain, moving down the body to stimulating blood flow into the nerves and muscles within the penis. Tyler's ascension from the water beautifully symbolizes the themes in Richard's series.

Tyler and I are working to create something truly beautiful and transcendent, demonstrating that the male nude can depict the penis in various stages of arousal in a way that is artistic and transcends “pornography.” We’re collaborating to tell a story, to share emotions and show beauty. Our goal is take the viewer far beyond nudes and erections, far beyond “penis.”

My hope is that what we’re sharing is art, art that takes authentic queer sexuality and depicts it as an extraordinarily beautiful, art that expresses freedom, our true nature and tells a story that has many dimensions, not just a sexual one.

The goal is to bring queer sexuality into a public forum, not hidden in a hotel room or behind closed doors. I intend it to be provocative as well by bringing authentic queer sexuality into the real world, in this case on Coney Island. This is a story we will continue to tell in other public places, challenging the heteronormative bias that the aroused and potent queer man is to be hidden, censored and confined.

I had intended this to be a three part story, starting on the streets of the East Village, then overlooking the city in Inwood Hill Park, ending up on the Coney Island beach—but I realize I’m far from finished and will continue to push boundaries with my work.

'Ok wrestlers, we've got a big meet tomorrow, so no beatin the meat tonight!'

John Irving is one of my favorite authors, I think I have read The Hotel New Hampshire at least three times. Although I enjoyed the novel of Hotel more than The World According to Garp, Garp's movie adaptation was very well done. The performances, especially by Robin Williams, Glenn Close and John Lithgow elevated the 1982 film adaptation of Irving's novel.

I saw the film years ago, but caught part of it again a few weeks ago. I had almost forgotten that locker room scene. When a young Garp follow the wrestling team into the locker room, (and then his mom who comes to fetch him) thee is an innocence about the scene, even with half of college aged wrestlers walking around naked.

Director George Roy Hill clearly wanted the scene to be authentic, as it is clear in several quick flashes, the jocks were not wearing anything under their towels. Check out my post on the The Hotel New HampshireHERE:

Cam Gigandet in The Shadow Effect

Cam Gigandet is one of Hollywood's hotttest, and most talented actors but except for the short lived 2014 television series, Reckless, I haven't seen too much of him the last few years. I believe Cam's appearance The Shadow Effect marks his second only nude scene, the last being his sexy turn in 2010's Burlesque.

Cam's character Gabriel spends a fair bit of time in his boxer briefs, but usually when he's hovered over a toilet bowl getting sick. Gabriel is not having the best of days, and things get even worse when Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Michael Biehn join the mix. Thankfully, he comes 'out of it' near the end in a scene the films director wisely decided should have Cam wet.... and naked.

Out of Tune: Tomas by Dennis Nauert

What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key
The Beatles

Many FH readers I am sure recognize Tomas. I featured his images fro Reyj Photography in two shoots, one in 2013 (The Rules of Attraction) and in a follow-up last year. (Devoutly Christzen) Reyj's work with Tomas produced some incredible shots that are some of my favorite images that I have featured over the years.

I remembered Reyj sharing his work with Tomas had taken place during a photography group event, so when I saw Austin photographer Dennis Nauert recently posting a few shots of Tomas, I knew he must have been part of the shoot. I have loved Dennis' work since first seeing his images of Michael, another guitar playing hottie who I featured back in 2012. (Precise) I loved how Dennis had so beautifully captured not just Michael, but Michael's passion for music within his images.

The last couple of times I have featured his work, I have done story hat-tricks, featuring three different models each time. I am glad to again focus on one model and shoot, especially given that the model is Tomas. Given my previous posts featuring Reyj's shots, Dennis was a bit worried that his images of Tomas wouldn't be unique, but after he sent on his shots, I was more determined than before to share their work together.

Tomas has a incredibly sexy look, distinct and certainly memorable. I also find his images intriguingly complicated. Tomas I often describe models, especially those posing naked, as appearing comfortable in front of the camera, but Tomas goes even a bit beyond, as if almost ambivalent about it. Although he has an tight hot body, it's Tomas' puppy dog eyes and a face whose expression don't try to hide the sadness, the experiences and the life struggles that he's been though.

Dennis describes Tomas a great guy to work with and someone he had hoped to schedule another shoot with. Unfortunately, Tomas's life was in upheaval, and he didn't have a fixed address, was living on the streets for a time so finding a way to reach him was impossible. Dennis remembers one of his favorite parts of the shoot was the music. 'Tomas has a great voice and I would have enjoyed listening to more of his music.'

When I contacted Dennis about Tomas, he shared that he hasn't been shooting that much lately, and was finding himself in a bit of a creative slump. For the first time in seven years, Dennis found himself cancelling a shoot, just not feeling any ideas that he wanted to follow through with. I found myself relating with Dennis completely. We all go through creative up's and down's and for an artists, the highs and lows can be especially demanding, as the pressure to create when you're not feeling it can be overwhelming.

With FH in it's 10th year, there are at least three or four times a year that I am not not feeling it and consider ending the site. With the time it takes to put together 5 pieces for a day's posting, I hate spending time on work or subjects that I am not passionate about. I know when my heart isn't in it, and often it seems easier to just stop. Sometimes routine and obstacles can bring on a slump. For awhile, I was using a particular photographer/model site to find, and connect with artists that I like. I would check the site out once or twice and week and it became the place I found, and contacted new artists whose work inspired me.

Unfortunately, this site, that had the purpose I thought was to connect, decided to make connecting harder for it's community members. I thought that was a sign that it was time for FH to start winding down. But as the Beatles sing, (although I prefer the Joe Cocker version) 'You get by with a little help from your friends.' Just as I was struggling to find ways of contacting new subjects, I was contacted by a couple of artists, whose work I have previously featured, about new work they were hoping I might share. Many of the artists that I have worked with over the last decade have become regular contributors, and the relationships I have formed have led to a more personalized way of both understanding, and presenting their work.

Dennis is one of those artists who always responds positively to my questions and requests. He also helped me to remember that my creative slumps always end. Just when I want to give up, I will see an image, discover an artist, a model or story that I can't imagine not being able to cover on the site. I trust Dennis will be soon back in tune creatively. When he is, Dennis has promised to let me know when he finds that new idea, or that new model that inspires him to schedule a new shoot.

Blast from the Past: Darby Hinton in Malibu Express

I had never heard of actor Darby Hinton until last week. In searching for info on a new Actors & Skin piece I am working on, I came across an images of Darby's wet and glistening backside in the shower. The image was a cap from 1985 movie called Malibu Express, and a quick glance at the movie's poster had me wanting to learn, and see more.

Darby, circa mid-eighties reminded me of a blonde Tom Selleck or Lee Horsley. Both are actors that held very little interest to me when I was growing up in the 80's. That hunky and hairy 80's look is a lot hotter now that the 80's are in the rear view mirror. The poster for Malibu Express, and the trailer I checked out on Youtube, certainly promoted the T & A, especially the T. It also made sure to let audiences know the film featured 5 Playboy centerfolds.

But... both the poster and trailer were also heavy on pushing Darby's sex appeal, something even amongst all the bare breasts, is fully apparent in the movie. If Darby isn't in crotch hugging tight jeans, he is shirtless or in a speedo. Even a fight scene in the desert had Darby shirtless. The brief butt shower scene was his only nudity, but Darby's 80's cocky sex appeal had me more than satisfied.

A little research had me learning Darby was a hugely successful child star in 60's. Darby had roles on all the major network shows including a starring role on the long running series Daniel Boone. Although Darby worked steadily in film and on many of the networks biggest shows in the decades that followed, a quick search told me it was Darby's roles as a kid that garnered the most attention. Searching for info and images led to mostly his work in the 60's.

80's look, 80's hair

I did find out he had one other nude scene in 1981's Firecracker. The scene is actually incredibly hot with Darby and his co-star using a jack knife to cut off each others clothes. Sadly however, there is little of Darby's skin shown, with the director sadly choosing to focus his female co-star. Darby is still a working actor and seems quite interactive with his fans on social media and at fan events. I am glad I came upon Darby in the shower, and enjoyed getting to know him through Malibu Express.

Bruce Boxleitner: Actors & Skin

I hadn't intended to do an Actors & Skin post on actor Bruce Boxleitner, but when I saw he has only done two, thought I would do a mini-one given it's his birthday. I remember watching Scarecrow & Mrs. King a little with my mother, but I mostly knew Bruce from celebrity magazines and TV guest shots until a few years ago. Back in 2014, when doing a post on actor Timothy Bottoms, I purchased the 1981 television mini-series version of East of Eden. Although very distant than the film version, Jane Seymour was quite good and Timothy and Bruce were quite hot.

Whenever I do a birthday post, the first thing I usually do is see if the actor I am featuring has nude scenes. I knew of, and included, a few old caps from his 1992 butt scene in Double Jeopardy in some older posts, but thought they needed an update. I didn't know, that Bruce had done another butt scene, 17 years earlier when Bruce was 25. I had not seen images, or clips from this film before. In 1975's Sixpack Annie, Bruce and his girlfriend are caught skinny dipping by the local sheriff. The sheriff, being the wise, and dirty ole man that he seems, insists Bruce get out of the water, as he stands on the shore and watches.

The Book of Jeremiah by msbimages

'But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.'
Jeremiah 7:8

Jeremiah is such a strong, classic and beautiful name. Even new parents who many not be that religious, have looked to the old testament for inspiration for baby names. We humans however cannot really be trusted with names and thus over the years, Jeremiah has morphed into less lyrical forms of the name, including Jeremy, Gerald and Gerard. In the bible, Jeremiah was a prophet, one of the last prophets God sent to Israel, just prior to the crumbling nations final days. I am not sure God would have sent a Gerard for such an important assignment...

Unfortunately, despite the strength of his name, Jeremiah didn't have much luck in getting anyone to listen. Maybe it was because he was still a teenager, but his warnings about the false Gods that had risen to power fell on deaf ears. Ultimately this led Jeremiah into frustration, isolation and loneliness. It was a important lesson to learn that even great prophets who seem so strong and put together can experience rejection, depression, and discouragement.

Michal Boothe's Jeremiah is not a teen, nor a prophet, but in the artist skilled hands, he does convey the qualities of a transcendent and immortal symbol of physical beauty. At 26, Jeremiah shared that he had only started working out two years ago. Michal says that Jeremiah had the most beautiful skin, pale, with tiny pin sized freckles all over his body.

I love the elegance and beauty in the poses Michal captured,.  Strong, but a quiet and gentle strength, not one seemly rooted in pride or ego.  I was also intrigued by Jeremiah's choice to look down, for the most part avoiding direct contact with the camera. Unlike the Jeremiah of the old testament, I think our modern day version has verses still to be experienced, and chapters still to be written.

Quaternate: Gordon Nebeker

When I began FH in 2007 I didn't have a Facebook, I didn't have a Twitter account and Instgram wasn't around yet. My main source of 'networking' for the site was through some Yahoo photographers groups I had joined, and if the photographer or model had a site, through their contact page. I quickly learned that Model Mayhem was the place to be. Most of the models and artists that I was profiling used their Model Mayhem page as their main link. The site soon became the place I visited a few times a week to search for images and artists that inspired.

I scrolled through portfolios with intent, excited that to have such an incredible catalogue of work to enjoy. In those early years I didn't have a Model Mayhem account, so if the person I wanted to contact didn't have an e-mail listed, it was difficult to connect with them. One of those photographers was Gordon Nebeker. As many images and portfolios as I looked at, it was rare that one sparked not only my enthusiasm, but a passion and drive to investigate the artist. The image below of Ajuna had me on the hunt to find a way to get in touch with Gordon.

The image was, and remains one of my all time favorite capture of the male form.  I loved the classic pose, the way Gordon cascaded Ajuna's face and body with illumination.  I love images with jeans pulled down, but not off and Ajuna's jeans beautifully uncovered his spectacular butt.  I also loved how even with the back pose, Gordon captured one of Ajuna's beautifully expressive eyes.

After a few months of looking for a contact for Gordon without success I was about to give up.  That was until, a model that I was featuring sent his favorite shots for the piece I was working on, including a selection from Gordon.  I quickly obtained Gordon's e-mail, and the rest as they say, is visual history.  As you can see from the extensive list of features below, I love Gordon's work, and thankfully, Gordon is willing to share.  Gordon is one of FH's most featured artists and has shot behind the scene material, not to mention a few Christmas goodies, exclusively for FH.   I can't begin to thank Gordon for all his assistance, contributions and support.  I can only hope FH has given back to him even a fraction of the inspiration and enjoyment his work has given myself and FH readers.

Another View: Alex Corso by Gordon Nebeker

I am sure some of you recognized the beautiful behind washing the orange BMW in today's pic of the day. Alex Corso is one of my favorite models to cover, (and uncover) and have featured his talents, both in front of and behind the camera, as often as I a able over the last few years. What makes this set of images unique however, is not just how incredibly hot Alex looks washing that car, it is also the artist on the other side of the lens.

The in the 20+ stores featuring Alex's work, each and every image was shot of Alex that I have posted wer taken by Wes from New Manhattan Studios. It was Wes who first introduced me to Alex back in 2012 with their work at Sunset Meadow. I instantly fell in love with Alex's beautiful silky skin, incredible body and sensuously enticing lips and eyes.

It has been a pleasure to not only feature Alex's work, but follow his transition at NMS from model, to assistant, stylist, and now photographer. Alex is the only person I have profiled in the last 10 years who has been featured modeling nude, assisting other models posing nude, (including his brother) and contributed images to stories featuring nude models being shot by NMS. It was that erotic triple header which makes Alex the perfect model to feature today.

Whenever I do a Quaternate post, I try to find new images to include. While I was putting together my Quaternate post featuring the work of Gordon Nebeker, I saw one of the shots from the car wash shoot that Alex had posted on Facebook. When I got in touch about using the shot, Alex sent back a wide selection of shots from his recent shoot with Gordon. I also included a shot (first one in this piece) from their shoot a few years back which Gordon says is one of his most popular and best known butt shots of Alex. Check out more of Alex's work on FH HERE:& check out Gordon's many appearances in the post below.

Riverdale Raves

This post was almost titled Riverdale Rants, but a couple of just announced casting decisions have tipped the scales more towards the positive. I loved Riverdale when it premiered earlier this year. A compelling teen drama kicked off with the mystery surrounding the death of a hot redheaded football player. The show's first half was about the relationships between the core characters from the comics. Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Cheryl and Kevin.

Although we saw Reggie, Moose, Midge and those Pussy Cats, they were mostly glorified extras, used to further story of the main cast. By the second half of the season, things began to change. The focus on character and relationships was lessened in favor of plot twists and darker themes. Although I loved the dark themes, they were done at the expense of some of the elements that had me loving the show in the beginning. As a fan of Kevin (Casey Cott) it was frustrating how inconsistent the writing was. One week, he was a part of the 'gang', the next, just a side character to push exposition by popping in for a few seconds with one line.

Melton with Evan Peters on AMS: Hotel

Reggie was also rarely seen in the second half of the season, mainly because Ross Butler, the actor who played him, was busy juggling other TV projects, one being his role in the popular new show 13 Reasons Why. This week, it was announced that actor Charles Melton was replacing Butler in the role. I first noticed (and posted about) Melton after his memorable nude, and very bloody turn on American Horror Hotel. (A Business Travelers End)

Charles is a beautiful guy and has appeared nude both on screen, and during his time as a model. I am glad they recast the role as although Reggie wasn't seen much in season 1, the teen cast needs to be expanded as the relationships between the main four are already starting to get a bit overplayed and tired.  They have already had pretty much all four of them crush over the other, the notable exception being Veronica and Jughead, but rest assured, that will be coming....

Kevin and Veronica in the first few episodes, relationships that were pretty much ignored after Betty and Veronica were hooked romantically to Jughead and Archie. It would also be nice to see Rob Raco ( Joaquin) pop back in for an episode or two, he and Kevin had a certain heat, especially those first scenes at the drive in.

The Bottom Line
