Blonde, James Blonde

When I recently revisited my post featuring Robert J. Guttke's images of Drew, I was reminded of his role in the 2006 Muscle Impossible. Of course, extensive research was required. Drew played James Blonde in the flick which could have just as easily been made in the late 80's or early 90's with it's look, acting and set. Other characters in the movie include Safe Cracker, Smooth Operator and Explosives Expert.

The movie is fun, and a nice contrast to most of what else is out there. Fun, and for 2014, almost innocent. It is sort of a throwback to the days of Playgirl as each of the eight cast members gets a four or five minute strip & dance introduction before the action begins. The movie, available from Sharpshooter isn't strong on plot, but that's really not the point.. It's mostly just 85 minutes of beautiful male nudity. Four good guys and four bad guys running around a building completely naked. Lots of close ups, not of faces but of body parts. The good guys pass out from gas, then are tied up only to escape to end up in one of the silliest naked rumbles ever to be filled. All and all, a pretty bad flick but you know what, I kind of enjoyed it!

The actors are all good looking, and all completely nude, pretty much throughout. There are no sexual interactions, but a fair bit of touchy feely just to let you know who the film was made for. It is retro fun and sort of takes me back to a time when we were all younger and our fantasies and dreams were a bit more innocent. A time where dreaming of eight hot men running around naked was enough to make a good nights sleep complete. Wild About Austin

When I saw my first image of 21 Miami model Austin Wild I was struck with how strong and striking he photographs. Austin has an incredible body, but that face is the face of fantasy, dreams and great art. With his piercing brown eyes and beautiful succulent lips, Austin is the perfect embodiment of the prince and hero in the novels we create in our minds.

Austin's 6' 3" frame is perfect for both fashion and fitness and he moves beautifully in front of the camera. Austin gladly supported a visit to FH, but for now is going to remain a bit of mystery. Hopefully he will soon be spotted by a skilled capturer of the male form who will shoot more images. Then more of the story, and the fantasy can be told continued.

It gives new meaning to the term strip search...

Oklahoma man strips nude and runs through jail before being tackled, detained

'Anthony Larsen, 25, who had been busted on an open warrant for a moving violation, was found by officers cowering stark naked behind a telephone near a slew of female inmates around 7 a.m., the police report said. Several of the women at the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center could be heard yelling, “Eww, he’s naked,” according to the report.'

I'm Ready!: Leonel by TR Pics

'I was a size 42 and 250 lbs. I remember my mom saying you're going to be very handsome with age, just watch. I really didn't pay her much attention...until about the age of 22. I started losing weight and noticing the attention. I started exercising more and more and dieting until I shed 80 lbs. in total.'

'I remember not being able to attract the attention of the girls I desired...'

We spend most of our lives trying, or wishing to change. Things about our lives, ourselves, or bodies. We are used to seeing manipulated change, all of those 'before and after'shots that company's use on TV and in print to make money or to sell a product.

Those changes are not however, always indicative of a true metamorphosis. Sometimes...they are just smoke and mirrors. When someone gets a face lift, do they really become beautiful, or do they just look different. Real change is not so much about the pounds lost, the new hairstyle or the make-up we applied. True change is the morphing from who someone was, into who they were meant to be. This change is more transformative and meliorate. An evolution moving someone into a less painful and more desirable place.

I am sure many assume, I know that I have, that most people enter modeling because they have spent a lifetime hearing how great looking they are. There is a incredible beauty then, in hearing Leonel share that it was not being told how handsome he was that inspired him to model, but hearing someone that he loved tell him that one day he would be.

'Leonel was one of those guys who caught my eye, and then like a big elusive fish, I never could seem to reel him in for a shoot.'

Photographer Tom Rubeck ,from TR Pics, has become one of my favorite photographers to feature on FH. Always exited to share both his images, and his stories. Tom and I had been working on a piece earlier in the month, but like the fish analogy Tom mentioned above, sometimes the fish that gets away isn't the one you were meant to catch. It definitely all worked out with my introduction to Leonard, a 28 year old model from Dallas.

Tom first saw images of Leonel on Facebook, they had never met, but both living and working in Dallas, they had mutual friends in common. Tom calls Leonel the Master of the selfie. Although Tom thought he had an amazing look, he could not find any professional photographs of him on his page. 'I thought he needed some, so I went for it'.

It was January of last year when Tom first contacted him. Leonel responded in February that he wanted more time to get ready so the shoot got pushed back until March. March came and went, and although they continued to communicate it was this past October Tom got a text from Leonel with the word, 'I'm ready!'.

'I remember Tom contacting me about a year ago to shoot with him but I was scared to do so cuz if my own insecurities. I finally decided to shoot with him and leave my little insecurities behind. I contacted him he scheduled me to meet at his studio and we shot for a good 4 hours I think. Tom made me feel so good about myself and just felt so natural to shoot with him.'
Leonel

'We shot in early November, and his hopes were for 'slightly dirty, provocative', which I think we covered. Leonel brought a friend of his, and we used her for a couple of the shots. He turned out to be very eager, very collaborative, and completely agreeable to shoot about any idea I had. Despite his obvious good looks, he really seemed to be a guy without much of an ego after all. Sure, he had his pose and angles down, but he was totally down to earth about it, and not diva-like at all. Truly, he's a nice beautiful guy, inside and out.'
Tom Rubeck

Tom says they had a fun and amazing time, and have continued to keep in touch. Recently Leonel was excited to report that he was contacted by an agency in New York who would like him to refine his look a bit , meaning lose weight,  and submit some things for a possible job. Personally I think Leonel is pretty perfect as he is now, and it speaks to his character that Tom was as impressed with his personality as he was with his look.

'I really felt comfortable with Tom and if my pictures ever take me somewhere, He would be my photographer of choice. His insistence in me pursuing something and also because of his good heart and his amazing work.'
Leonel

Regardless of what may in the foreground, a dancer, a bouquet of balloons, Rob Eco or Tarzan, no one shoots New York City as majestically as Richard Rothstein. With the snow still whipping around outside my windows, I thought I would share his most recent images of January.

As beautiful as January is, I await Richard's images of Summer!

'It's people who've sacrificed their livelihoods, it's people who've sacrificed their parents' finances and health and sometimes even marriages to get that one chance at glory. As an athlete who's lived it, I could never turn my face to that. While equality is necessary all over the world, the Olympics is not the place for me to make a stand.'
Johnny Wier

I don't agree entirely with Wier's words, but I do respect them. It boggles my mind sometimes how we expect everyone in the world to understand our feelings, our rights and stands on issues, but struggle to even attempt to understand theirs. I am not talking Russia, I am talking Weir. I played hockey, baseball and basketball but would never think I could understand the sacrifices professionals athletes have had to make, and from such an early age. I somehow think if Weir were not so out there and looked and acted more like someone more accepted in the mainstream like a Matt Bomer, he would not be getting so much flack. Weir is not my cup of tea, I don't think his theatrics helped him professionally, but he does make some good points. If gay people stopped going places we were not welcomed or wanted we wouldn't have that many places to visit. We certainly wouldn't have headed to Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympics, nor if we listened to Weir's detractors, would we even go there today?

Arrow,The Apprentice: Colton Haynes

Sometimes you see an actor or model in an image but for some reason you don't connect. I have seen tons of images, and small written pieces on Colton Haynes for the past few years. Obviously good looking, I didn't really stop and go 'Whoa!' until watching him as Roy on Arrow.

A model since fifteen, Haynes began modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch in New York. Upon moving to Hollywood, Haynes got roles on shows known for casting hot young guys willing to take off their shirts. Stints on the new Melrose Place, Teen Wolf and The Gates brought the young actor attention, not to mention all of the rumors of relationships with various actors.

I never paid much attention until making my way through Season 1 of Arrow. Haynes portrayal of Roy is spot on and scratches away at my perplexity to lust after the bad boy. Roy is damaged, yet self aware enough to fight to change and follow in the footsteps of the man who saved his life.

Haynes has the ability to move from pretty boy to bad boy deceptively smoothly. (don't they all...) He exudes a sexual energy in his scenes, regardless of this co-star. Roy makes you want to help him, save him but ultimately...do him. Tis the way lust usually works.

I have posted about Arrow and it's star Stephen Amell a few times on the blog. I began crushing on the Canadian cutie after seeing him Dante's Cove awhile back and have been following is career since. I started watching Arrow last year, but got behind and stopped watching for awhile. I got caught up with the DVD of season 1 over the holidays and am currently working my way through season 2.

Stephen Amell is the perfect lead for the show. Hot as hell yes, but also has an openness and quality about him that differs from many other Hollywood hunks. Amell seems undaunted by celebrity and appears to comfortable with what it takes to be a television superhero. He doesn't shy away, the way many actors seem to, of showcasing his body, as well as considerable acting talents, within his role. Amell jokes about the wig used for Oliver's island scenes, but I think I loved wigged Oliver as much as the buzz version.

It took a few episodes to fully commit, but once in I enjoyed the ride of season on. The cast as a whole is strong and I especially enjoy David Ramsey and Emily Bett Rickards as Arrow's crime fighting sidekicks. The one weak link to me is Katie Cassidy who is limited in range and displays little chemistry with Amell. I saw her need in the shows early development but her storyline's now only bogs things down. Cassity's Laurel Lance, destined to be Oliver's Lois Lane, is not up to the task. Amell's chemistry is much stronger with Bett Ricards character Felicty Smoak. (got to love that name)

Arrow seems to also welcome the shows large gay following and takes every opportunity to rip off Oliver's shirt. They also seem to enjoy toying with the homeotic within certain scenes and relationships. I know I am not the only one who found it fun, hot, and not the least bit subtle, to have John Barrowman's character tie up and torture the half naked, leather clad Amell in one of the shows first season episodes.

Sign Of Strength: Donald By Carl Proctor

'Donald's interest in modeling gives us the pleasure of viewing his lean, defined physique and that great smile of his.'

Donald Solley is a 25 year old model from Orlando Florida who Carl Proctor calls an all-American boy-next-door guy, who also happens to be a professional athlete and motocross addict. One of the best, and one of my favorite photographers Carl Proctor, captured these images, and Donald's incredible smile in Florida this past December.

The longer I work on FH, the more I am impressed with the ability of models and the skill of artists, who are able to capture a true smile. Most of us have a 'show' smile, that camera smile we put on when we are asked to smile for a image or family photo. Every once in awhile though, I will see a picture of myself where the smile looks real, the happiness genuine. Those few times are not about my ability or skill to put it on, they are based on the capturing of true moments of joy that could not be put on or faked.

When I see a face, and a great smile like Donald's, I connect it to an inner strength that is not created for the camera, but instead, a natural piece of the model being photographed. For so long it seemed smiling was almost frowned upon in the shooting of the male form. It was though a smile was seen as a weakness instead of sign of strength and confidence as beautifully demonstrated by Donald.

'It's the pills talking.'

My favorite films are character dramas. I, Like the rest of the world, also enjoy Meryl Streep as one of my favorite thespians to watch light up the screen. Funny then how much I disliked August: Osage County. Streep was great as pill poppin, truth telling Violet Weston, maybe too good. Like the rest of her family, I just wanted to get away from her whenever she was in the room. Watching a character you dislike can often be plenty of fun and can see how Violet would have been a powerhouse character to watch on stage. The play however did not translate to a watchable or worthwhile motion picture experience for me.

I did not see the play on stage, but Julia Roberts character also did little for me. Roberts and Streep were both great, but their relationship seemed forced, a way to give the two biggest stars in the film a hook together. The most interesting sister was by far Ivy, with Julianne Nicholson the movie's main source of appeal. It is too bad the producers sacrificed giving proper billing in favor of more well known actors. Nicholson was great, and along with Chris Cooper were the main reasons my Friday night out wasn't a total waste.

I must give the supporting cast their due. Without nearly as much screen time, they all made their characters memorable. This is the first time I have liked Juliette Lewis in a role since Cape Fear and Margo Martindale again reminded me of what a great actress she is, playing a great character, not a caricature, as she does on The Millers. In addition to Cooper, Ewan McGregor, Dermott Mulroney and Benedict Cuberbatch (who I did not catch was in the film) were also interesting to watch and provided a FH type reason to post about the film.

Chris Cooper, perfecting the ugly/sexy in Adaptation.

Mulroney in Intimate Affairs.

Cumberbatch in Last Enemy.

Indulis: Against The Sky

'I like working outdoors with a model posed against the sky.'

When I was first introduced to the work of Brookhaven photographer Indulis last spring, there were three distinct, but connected themes at the core of his work. The first was windows, but not just any windows but the windows from his home that look out over the land and water that surrounds his home. ( An Unobstructed View)

The second is that land and water and the artists passion for it. (An Island For One) The third theme may not seem connected, but like those windows, it serves as a way of getting even a greater view of all that surrounds.

We often put those we admire on pedestals. We feel their lives must be better than ours because they are richer or better looking or don't have the problems we must face each day. The longer I work on FH, the more apparent it has become that those in front of the camera, just like those behind it, live and breath on the same playing field as I do. That is what I find so refreshing about Indulis and his pedestals. They are not used to necessarily elevate the model so we see them better, the elevation is used to get closer to the sky and to see even more of what surrounds.

'I've always been entranced by nature, wildlife and the sea and my home embodies that, with unobstructed windows on every side and even all exterior doors made of glass. My work with figure models not only complements but elevates this primal instinct.'

Like his window's, the pedestals act as lens and the model as perspective. I think if not for fear of their safety, Indulis might elevate his models even higher as the closer to the sky one reaches, the more panoramic the view. Sometimes distance can actually make things so much clearer.
