Vanguard: Sidney Poitier

The first Sidney Poitier film that I saw wasn't one of his more well known films, it wasn't one of his best.  I was in school, and went along with my father and a couple of films to see Shoot To Kill.  I remember thinking the movie was ok and that Tom Berrenger was hot, but the film didn't really leave a lasting impression.

Shoot to Kill (1988)

It wasn't until I was older that I learned more about his life and his ground breaking career. Although Hattie McDaniel was nominated and won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 1939, it wasn't until almost twenty years later that Sidney Poitier became the first male black actor to be nominated for best actor for his role in The Defiant Ones.

Lilies of the Field (1963)

Poitier didn't take home the award, but was nominated again five years later and went on to become the first black actor ever to win an Oscar for 1963's Lilies of the Field. The film tells the story of Homer Smith, an African American handy man and jack-of-all-trades who encounters a group of East German nuns.  Smith believes that he was sent to them by God to help them build a new chapel.

Again this year there is a lot of talk about how white the Oscar nominations are.  Out of ten acting nominations, there is just one, for actress Cynthia Erivo in Harriet.  I often feel the Academy gets a bad wrap when it comes to diversity.   There are a lack of diverse nominee's for sure, both in area's of race and of sex.  I've never felt the problem however was the Academy, but society and the industry itself.

For Love of Ivy (1968)

There are always actors, directors and projects overlooked, and I'm sure sexism and racism plays a role, but the real issues don't lie with the awards, but the industry they're rewarding. The film industry is simply not making many films for mainstream audiences that don't star white men. Today, those white men are usually wearing superhero spandex or wielding a big gun.

Thankfully, regardless of what Hollywood produces, the Oscars usually cut through the spandex and reward performances over box office receipts and trends.  Although it doesn't happen for everyone, great actors like Sidney Poitier often shine through.  Although he won an actual acting Oscar, Poitier also won an Honorary Oscar in 2002.  The award was given for Poitier's  extraordinary performances and unique presence on the screen and for representing the industry with dignity, style and intelligence.

'For a lot of filmmakers, their first goal is to be successful and make some money. But once people start doing that, the real goal is then to win an Academy Award. Because when they do, they know that their obit is going to start out, 'Academy Award winner so-and-so.'

DiCaprio

Although I realize how ludicrous it is to get excited about something that always disappoints, I do it every year.   I don't think I've really enjoyed the Oscars in years, yet I still look forward to them.  I'm sure many of you feel the same, we like to complain about them, how long and boring they are, who should have, and should not have been nominated.  I think the disappointment is oddly part of the enjoyment, and part of the experience.

Newman

Kind of like Christmas and birthdays, the Oscars come with sentimental baggage.  Growing up far from Hollywood, Oscar night seemed to bring the world of movies closer, it was something watched by people together, all over the world.  My memories of Oscar night start with begging my mother to me stay up and watch.  It was always on Sunday night, and with the school the next morning, it was a battle to get to see more than an hour.

Pitt

I loved, and still miss, the Billy Crystal hosted years.  I loved seeing 'old' Hollywood on stage, the big openings, and the performance of the nominated songs.  I still have an old VHS tape somewhere with years of Oscar performances on it somewhere.  I still vividly remember the year Madonna came with Michael Jackson as her date and nervously warbled through a performance of 'Sooner or Later' from Dick Tracy.   There was something about seeing Madonna shaking, nervous singing in front of the world that made her more human, and spoke to the gravity of the night.

Redford

I have been uncovering the Hombres de Hollywood for quite a few years now, and featuring the work of artist Nacho Fernandez Castro (illustrator of Hombres de Hollywood) made for the perfect fit!   Hope you enjoy my tribute to Hollywood and this year's awards.  Hope you enjoy it, and although long, hope you're not too disappointed.... 😎  Like the show itself, it's become tradition!

This year, my Oscar coverage is spread over the site's first three pages.  Once again this year, I am stripping bare the nominee's, and many of the actors and films of the past year.

Mehcad Brooks: Buttamorphosis

Since 'change' is one of the many themes I like to explore on FH, I thought I should note one I really noticed last week.  I have been crushing over actor Mehcad Brooks since he played Matthew Applewhite and first moved onto Wistera Lane at the end of season one of Desperate Housewives.

I followed Mehcad's many television and movie appearances, including his Calvin Klein underwear adds and his naked butt thrusting on True Blood.  Although I didn't catch Mehcad on Supergirl, he was certainly one of the hottest Jimmy Olsen's to work at The Daily Planet

Last week, I caught some images of Mehcad from his latest role as Shannon on Tyler Perry's new Netflix film Fall From Grace.  I could have done without the new tattoos, but Brooks, and his beautiful butt, look as hot as ever.  Brooks buff up bod was instantly noticeable, but it was also the first time I think I've seen the actor without his beautiful shaved head.

Vanilla Extraction: Maxxie by Jack S Photography

'The Shoot with Jack twas a bit more vanilla than most of my stuff I usually do...'

I'm not sure most people would call hot, wet and naked images of a porn star Vanilla, but for for 18 year old Maxxie Rivers, his shoot with Jack S Photography was a piece of very sweet cake.  For many, Vanilla is usually thought of as plain.  A simple flavor that's mostly considered safe and when tasted on it's own doesn't require a great deal of risk.

Vanilla is a tricky flavor however, one that can sneak up and surprise you when added and used properly.  On it's own, in products like ice cream or yogurt, it is often seen as plain,  boring flavor but one not necessarily considered strong or distinctive.  This is done for the most part on purpose. It  satisfies the nutritional needs of older people and helps parents with kids who scream at the hint of any real flavor.

If however, you've every had real vanilla, not the grocery store extract, but the vanilla bean, you know that vanilla can be rich and creamy with a a pure but pungent taste.  If anyone's had a great vanilla milkshake from old fashioned diner, you know exactly what I mean.  Real vanilla is also incredibly aromatic, and when used properly, can activate several of the bodies senses.

Vanilla is wonderfully complex and deceiving.  On it's own, it can be milky white and simple, but when blended or inserted into another edible, vanilla can add a powerful infusion of taste and flavor. For this photo shoot, finding vanilla was actually the goal,. Jack's focus was to strip away the porn star persona that surrounds Maxxie and seen in so many of his images, and showcase his personality in a more simple and real way.

Although Jack wanted to pull out personality, he couldn't ignore the organic sensuality which Maxxie exudes.  Although 'tamer' than many of his previous shoots, Maxxie's curves and poses remain incredibly erotic.  Maxxie's energy and personality flow through both his beautiful eyes and facial expressions but are equally seen through his movements and poses.

Maxxie shares that he takes so many nude selfies of himself, it was fun to relax and move around the room with another set of eyes behind the lens.  Jack chose some angles and views that Maxxie couldn't capture himself, especially while while his body was in motion, lathering up in the shower, or rolling around and jumping and up down on the bed.

Maxxie calls himself a nomadic muse,  and loves to travel and meet others in search of collaborations for his erotically unique career pursuits.  You can check out more of the results but checking out Maxxie's Twitter (HERE:) and Instagram (HERE:)

If anyone read my weekend Academy Award posts, you're aware my feelings on the shows pattern to disappoint.  This Sunday's show certainly didn't.  Although Janelle Monáe and Billy Porter gave it their all, between the opening and having Questlove on hand, the show seemed to be trying to hard to be cool.  The Oscars are not cool, never have been, nor do I think they ever will be.  Having a DJ and trying to have them feel like the Grammy's is not going to help.

I tuned out shortly after the supporting actor and actress trophy's were given out, and tune off when Eminem randomly showed up.  I like Lose Yourself, and read why the producers decided to bring him on, but it was the final straw to have me turn to my DVR of HBO's The Outsider.

I tuned back in to see the final three awards and was happy that Joaquin Phoenix's speech made Renée Zellweger's look boring in comparison. Renée's speeches have been a little wonky this award season, and although she rambled a bit, but nothing close to Phoenix's heartfelt but all over the place acceptance.

There was one award show that I welcomed an unexpected appearance from Eminem.  If anyone remembers the 2009 MTV video awards, they  may remember Sacha Baron Cohen, as his character Bruno, flying down from the rafters and spreading his butt in Eminem's face.  Although planned ahead of time, it was still fun, and a little ironic.

I love this image.  I love the composition, the parallel lines, and how the distinctly different lines and curves of the twins is presented and contrasted. I have been searching for their names, but haven't had any luck.  I did find the image source, a 2011 benefit calendar shot by photographer Joachim Baldauf for the Museum Altona in Hamburg Germany.  Thus far, I haven't found any additional shots of the sexy twins, but if anyone has seen more, or knows if they model professionally, love to see more!

Heart in Hand: Claudius by New Manhattan Studios

'Claudius is one of the very first models with whom I started corresponding, shortly after the studio opened its doors in New York City in early 2012. I can no longer remember who initiated the conversation, but early-on we agreed that we wanted to collaborate.'

Holidays have a way of nudging at your mind, prodding your thoughts to wander gently back in time.  Christmas and Thanksgiving usually have you thinking of family, Halloween has you remembering cold Autumn nights out trick or treating as a kid.   Valentine's... well those memories tend to be more emotionally sensual, with feelings and thoughts of past crushes, infatuations and passions overtaking your consciousness.

When I was thinking about pieces for this Valentine's, the first artist I thought to contact was Wes from New Manhattan Studios.   Wes has shot many of the Valentine pieces I've featured over the years including shoots with Bond, (A Valentine Unattire) Norm, (The Red Session) and a hot trio featuring Alex, Jay and Mike. (Enwrapped in Red)  It also had me thinking of the first time I featured Wes' Valentine themed images, 2014's Ambition.

I had actually posted Ambition in April, but it was shot on Valentine's day two months earlier.  The model for the shoot was Claudius, a model's who's work I had enjoyed featuring previously on the site. The setting, a New York hotel room, and as you can see from these images, with an incredible view,.  This series of shots were from the second part of Claudius' work with NMS, just before he had to fly back to Toronto the following day.

I have been recently talking with Claudius about a return visit to FH and we've been batting arund a few ideas.  Claudius has just returned to modeling and restarted his OnlyFans page.  Claudius has also scheduled several new shoots to add content to his already impressive portfolio.  When I asked Wes if he had any new imagery from the Valentine shoot to add to my favorites from the previous story. Wes graciously agreed to dig back into his archives to find and then edit some new material to feature this year.

Fingers crossed, one of those new shoots may include a return to New York and another collaboration with New Manhattan Studios.  If that occurs, I'll be sure to give you all an update!

The Creamy Filling: Carl by Studio1x

'The taste of chocolate is a sensual pleasure in itself, existing in the same world as sex...'
Dr. Ruth Westheimer

I don't think Studio1x'sJim knew exactly what he was in for when he asked Carlto try one of the chocolates.  Jim says that this was his only prompt to Carl, and he thought he might end the shoot with one or two shots of Carl eating the chocolate.  Jim says the rest of what happened was one hundred percent Carl, and as you can see, he truly seemed to enjoy his chocolaty treat.

It has been scientifically proven that eating chocolate can release endorphins in the body. These endorphins as we all know, are chemicals in the body that make us feel better and often lead to an increased sense of pleasure. Those feelings can be so strong in some that they experience what’s been known as a chocogasm.  The near orgasmic feeling can occur when someone smells and tastes fine chocolate, and allows it to linger and melt slowly on their tongues.

It certainly looks to me from this set of images,  that Carl is in the throws of a beautiful chocogasm. From his first taste, to the explosion of flavor, the climatic swallow, and delicious but messy clean-up.  Although Jim may have only envisioned a shot or two, the result, was so much more.  Jim ended up with hundred of shots of Carl's chocogasm, making it impossible, yet enjoyable, to narrow them down to only a few.

Valentines is such an odd little holiday. In general, holidays seem at their core, a way to bring people together, yet for many, end up doing the opposite. When you're a kid, eating chocolate and giving cards to your homeroom class seems pretty harmless, but as you get older, Valentines takes on an edge. I remember some incredible February 14th's when I was in my late teens and through my 20's, romantic dinners, wine, flowers and chocolate, love, sex, the whole nine yards.

Jarron by Chris Freeman

I also remember a few that had me wanting to slit my throat. Painful Break-ups, relationships ending, unrequited love, especially when you're young, can make February 14th a painful pit of sorrow. You can't enjoy the day or stomach the food or even the candy. Being older doesn't mean the pain of a break up is any easier, but most of us have toughened up a it. Regardless of what we're going through, we've learned no matter how what's going on, no mater how bad it is... Enjoy the food, eat the candy, and most of all, if you're able, drink the wine.

The Sweet Spot: Carl by Studio1x

'All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.'
Charles M. Schulz

Given FH's focus on the male form, it's understandable that  most of my previous Valentine's posts, have featured hot, naked holiday hunks.  Valentine's Day however, isn't all about sex and romance. Although a passionate connection is at the core of the day, when you don't, or can't have the sensual...the sweet can make a mouthwatering substitute.

For kids, Valentine's is all about the candy.  The candy necklaces, the sweet tarts and of course the many varieties of chocolate.  The Hershey kisses, chocolate hearts and those heart shaped boxed filled with so many different tastes and textures.  Romantic partners come and go, but no matter your age,  chocolate has the power to always hit your sweet spot.

Carl certainly also possesses the requirements to take aim, and then shoot straight into your sweet spot.  Initially, Carl looks like the perfect gentlemen, one whose good looks, and adorable face, could easily melt your heart.  With his white dress shirt and bow tie, not to mention those flowers and chocolates in hand, Carl looks like the sweetest of Valentine dates.

As you can see from this series of images, beneath that top layer of sweetness, a second salty layer awaits.   Jim from Studio1x, beautifully captured both sides of FH's Valentine hunk.  The the sweet guy, who arrives at your door at the beginning of the night, and his more lascivious side, as Carl's clothes come off and the evening progresses.

Although Jim's final images perfectly capture Carl's sensual side, the planning of the shoot, more than spotlight the sweet. Carl had recently joined a model/photographer group that Jim belongs to, and he posted that he was looking to build his modeling portfolio.

Jim and Carl began planning for their shoot, and a date was set.  Unfortunately, Carl's son became sick and they needed to reschedule.  On the day that the shoot was rescheduled, Carl's car ended up in the shop, but he was determined to get there and told Jim he'd be there not mater what, even if it meant a long bus ride.

'Unfortunately, I don't have bus service to near my studio so I offered to come pick him up. By picking him up that gave us plenty of time to chat on our drive back to get to know each other. Noticing his accent, I had to ask where he was from. Carl shared that he grew up in England and moved to the US when in his teens.'

Jim describes Carl as not only sweet, but a pleasure to work with.  Jim says that Carl was very enthusiastic, and open to trying different looks and creative styles including the Valentine theme for FH.   The Valentine portion of the shoot was towards the end of the day, but by that time, they had already shot about ten different set-ups and looks.  By then, Jim says they were in the groove and Carl was doing a fantastic job.  If Jim's words and images weren't enough proof of Carl's sweetness, maybe he thoughts on the shoot would help seal the deal.

'The shoot was amazing and its definitely something I've always wanted to do and want to do more of For me, Valentine's means just appreciating and showing love to that significant other.  If your single, you can still share that love and appreciation with and to your family and friends.'

So that heart shaped box of chocolates wasn't just a prop.  Near the end of the shoot, Jim suggested that Carl give one a taste.  Check out PAGE 2 HEREto see how much Carl enjoyed it.

12 Days: Todd Farmer in My Bloody Valentine

Tom returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre that claimed the lives of 22 people. Instead of a homecoming, Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders, and it seems like his old flame is the only one that believes he's innocent.

For my Valentine's edition of 12 Days, I could have gone for a sappy, romantic Hallmark move, or a big screen rom-com, but FH viewers know how much I love the blend of holidays and horror.  I've managed to find several Christmas and Easter horror films, but there aren't as many for February 14th.

When I started searching for Valentine themed horror movies, there was one film that kept topping the list.  It was My Bloody Valentine, the 1981 Canadian slasher flick.  I found a copy, although haven't watched, but soon relalized there was a 2009 re-mail featuring Jensen Ackles and Kerr Smith.  When I saw there was male nudity in the film, I had to check it out.

Although it wasn't Ackles or Kerr who dropped trou, I wasn't disappointed in actor and screenwriter's Todd Farmerand his more than ample asset. Farmer co-wrote the screenplay and has a small role in the film.  Like Hitchcock, Farmer has had cameo's in many of the films he's written including Jason X, Drive Angry and last year's Trick

In My Bloody Valentine 3D, Farmer wrote and included one of the most gratuitous female nude scenes I've seen on film in awhile.  I guess he sort of tried balanced it out by writing, and then taking on, a small part that also required him to show a little bit of skin. If you've seen the movie however, Farmer would have to show a whole lot more to equal what he put his scene partner through.,,,

'We write for actors and even down to the smallest character in the film, they all have their moment. You take that and you put it in a story that's in your face and there's tons of hardcore R action, nudity and you name it, but at the same time there really is a story there. It's got heart and at the end of the movie people will feel it. So I hope they'll their friends and want to see more.'

'Forget the last arrow only the next will count.'

Most contemporary incarnations of the male form had their origins in mythology and with the Gods.  Whether it be iconic holiday characters, classic sculptures or paintings, or the poses captured by so many of the artists that  feature.   Cupid, one of the most famous symbols of Valentine's, originates from two historical mythologies.

In Roman mythology, Cupid is the son of Venus, the Goddess of love. In Greek mythology, he was known as Eros, the son of Aphrodite was known as the God of love and sexual desire.  According to Roman mythology, Cupid fell madly in love with Psyche despite his mothers jealousy over Psyche's beauty.  Although most Greek Gods don't use their bow and arrow to shoot the love power, they hold connections to the Cupid's current incarnation.

Apollo mocked the god of love, Eros for his use of bow and arrow. Apollo was also patron of archery and taunted Eros with insults.  'What are you doing with powerful weapons, naughty boy...'  Angry an insulted, Eros prepared two arrows: one of gold and one of lead. He shot Apollo with the gold arrow, instilling in the god a passionate love for the river nymph Daphne. He shot Daphne with the lead arrow, instilling in her a hatred for Apollo.

Many FH readers may remember my previous piece featuring London based photographer Statuesque, and his work with the Barleycorn Triplets. (The Three Graces)  The images of Teucer and Apollo were a part of the photographic essay Statuesque was inspired the artist's lifelong love of sculpture and his  feeling that it continues to be undervalued as an art form.

'It doesn’t have quite the same status as painting, and the crudest measure of this is the price mechanism. To acquire old master paintings you need to spend millions; a collection of fine piece of sculpture can be assembled for thousands. Sculpture is a very public art form. No one would dream of leaving a valuable painting exposed to the elements, be we walk past statues, monuments and memorials in the street, sometimes paying them no more attention than the lamp-posts.'

Teucer

'The idea behind Statuesque was to interpret great works of sculpture, ancient and modern, through the medium of photography: to bring the statues down off their plinths and into our world. To do justice to the magnificent works of art I had chosen, I needed a model whose body looked like a work of art in itself, and I found one in Danny. His magnificent physique made him the perfect interpreter of iconic images of make beauty like the Apollo Belvedere and Teucer.'

There was a problem with the bow in both images. I hired the props and costumes for the shoot from the National Theatre in London, but the only bow they could produce was so small it must have come from their recent production of Peter Pan. It certainly didn’t have a heroic feel about it. However my digital retoucher was able to isolate the bow from the photograph of the statuette of Teucer and put it into Danny’s hands for both photos.

Teucer is much more modern. Representing the great archer who fought with the Greeks at the siege of Troy, it was created as a life-size bronze figure by Hamo Thornycroft in 1882, and was so popular it was then turned into a sixteen-inch statuette for collectors.

The Apollo Belvedere is a Roman marble statue of the second century AD which was dug up in Italy in 1489. Its fame spread throughout Europe thanks to engravings, and it quickly established itself as the perfection of the ancient Greek ideal body.

Danny had never done a nude shoot before and was initially quite nervous about it. However, he completely bought into the vision behind the project and really threw himself into it. We did a lot of shots of Teucer, which was my favourite image of the series, but I wasn’t quite satisfied, so when he was just about to leave the set, I asked if we could try one more. He went up on the balls of his feet, which had the effect of tightening his thigh muscles and created the perfect silhouette.

Since Diedich Bader's 'skin' scenes are all on television, they're a little on the tame side.  Doesn't mean they're not sexy, and given Diedrich is primarily a comedian, most are also a lot of fun.

It's always funny when crushes sneak up on you.   It's even more interesting when the crush turns out to be someone you've been familiar with for years.   I've enjoyed the work of Diedrich Bader for years.  Although I can't say I was the biggest fan of The Drew Carey Show,  Diedrich was certainly the show's resident hottie.

I've enjoyed Diedrich's voice work, (he sounds especially sexy as Batman) his work in film and his many television appearances.  Currently Diedrich starts on ABC's American Housewife, but it's show I had little interest in until last fall.  I have to admit that I initially tuned in to check out actor Peyton Meyer. (above)  I kept watching, and binge watching earlier season because of Diedrich.

American Housewife: Due Where's My Napkin (2017)

Katy Mixon is fantastic as Katie Otto, although if you binge more than a few episodes in a row, her character can be a bit much.... Diedrich balances her character, and the show out and the supporting characters are hilarious.  In addition to Katy and Diedrich, the show has created three unique and interesting children for the couple to deal with and I could watch full episodes of Katie's second breakfast scenes with Ali Wong (Doris) and Carly Hughes. (Angela)

Diedrich's daddy Greg quickly won me over, especially after his drunken dance in a lesbian bar to Whitney Houston.  Although Diedrich hasn't filmed what I'd call an official 'nude' scene, he has shared a bit of skin on screen.  Check out a little more, and a hint of Bader butt in the SKIN piece of this piece below.
