When I was searching for subjects for my Sibling Saturday's feature, I came across the image above of Tom and Steve Fernandez.  The only other shots I could find were those below, a profile of Tom in an unknown magazine.  I am guessing maybe G Magazine, but if anyone knows, please shoot me a line!

'Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.'
Viktor E. Frankl

Regular readers of FH know that my curiosity is often drives what drives not only how I construct a story together, but whose stories I choose to spotlight.  Whenever I have the chance to interview or pick the brain of an artist or model, I try to asks questions specific to their work and what it was that impacted me about their visuals.

There are also a few questions, that I use again and again, questions at the heart of my passion for imagery of the male form, and questions with answers that are beautifully unique for each model and artist.  One of those question is about why.  What stimulated them to pick up a camera, or want to remove all of their clothing, to produce images of the naked male form.

Even more than stimuli, it's so much about that space referenced by Viktor Emil Frankl.  As a neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor, the Austrian Frankl was referencing issues far more pressing than nude modeling, yet all decisions we make in our lives, and especially ones which lead to change, are often emotionally impact, and personally life changing.

So many of the models I've featured have stories of spaces in their lives overshadowed with painful experiences which played a role in their deciding to try nude modeling.  For most, they're not only shedding their clothing, but shedding, and often facing, the experiences which dominated their lives for so long.

For Clyde, those painful experiences included a lengthy illness, one which gave him a lot of time to think about what he wanted to do when and if, he recovered.  One of those things was a photo shoot, a way to create a permanent visual diary of his body and appearance, especially when healthy and at it's peak.  It would also be a great celebration and symbol of his recovery, which as you can, it beautifully ended up to be.

Clyde enjoyed his celebration shoot so much, he went on to do more and more, one of which, included a two hour journey to Cheshire, to shoot with Male Beauty by bengie.  I've always found bengie's work to be a celebration of the male form and this series of images is certainly a celebration of the physical, and internal determination and strength displayed by Clyde.

The Chester photographer's work always has an erotically positive feel, and his models are usually surrounded by natures beauty, gardens and fields of flowers or crops.  He also often shoots models in the shower, something up

Classic Soap Hunk: Robert Parucha

Although I'm not currently really watching any daytime soaps, FH readers know, they were an important part of my childhood.  Like many soap lovers, I became familiar with the soaps due to my mother.  She watched a three hour block most afternoons, and I often caught the last hour after I returned from school.

Like those people who attend church on Christmas and Easter, I've become somewhat of a holiday soap viewer.  I check out my favorite families during Christmas vacation, Easter, and of course sick days.  Soaps are like chicken soup on a sick day, comforting, and familiar.  Some characters, like Jack, Traci and Ashley on The Young and Restless, have been on for decades, and are usually there when I check in.

I wasn't sick when The Young and Restless aired their most recently tribute to Victor Newman, but I did watch on the CBS site when I knew it was a clip show.  When a sit-com does a clip show, I usually skip it, they usually do them as fillers to make their yearly quota of episodes.  When a soap does a clip show, it's a trip down memory lane, with episodes going back twenty, thirty and forty years.  Although I haven't watched the show that long, I have checked in on a dozen or so episodes each year for the last couple of decades.

I didn't watch when Victor's brother Matt Miller was on the show, but when he showed up on the clip show, I certainly took notice.  Whether the hot daddy he is today, or the hot stud he was several decades ago, I took notice when actor Robert Parucha graced the screen.

According to his IMD page, the actor played Victor's brother back in 1986.  He returned to honor his brother in the recent tribute episode, and the show wisely chose a clip of Matt shirtless and sweaty int he stables.  The clip certainly had me googling!   Although he was on the show in the eighties, Parcucha was still sporting a bit of a seventies porn vibe, with his hair and mustache.

My googling led me to some old modeling shots prior to joining the show.  He certainly looks a little more GQ prior to his metamorphosis into hot soap stud. Parucha had a handful of TV guest spots before and after his soap stint, including roles on L.A Law, Lottery, Baywatch, Dynasty and The Client

Although he's currently working in another field, the show would be smart to bring him back on a more regular basis.  Poor Traci needs a man, and Matt Miller back on a regular basis might have me checking back in more than just on holidays.

Instagrams that Inspire: Nico Greetham

Like many of the subjects I feature on FH, my introduction to actor Nico Greetham stemmed from an image.  In Nico's case, the image however, was of Meryl Streep.   I was working on my Oscar pieces earlier this year, and my clicks let me to story of Meryl being cast in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical The Prom.  In the article, was image of image of Nico, who is playing Nick Boomer in the upcoming flick.

Nico was so freakin' adorable, a google search commenced.  Nico is probably most well known for his role as  Calvin Maxwell / Yellow Ninja Steel Ranger on the television series Power Rangers Ninja Steel.  I hadn't heard of Nico, nor seen an episode of the show, but I'll be keeping my eye out for The Prom and Nico's future projects.

The Unknown: Matt by Unlimited Male

'It’s the unknown that draws people.'
E.A. Bucchianeri

When Playgirl Magazine was published on a monthly basis, one of the most popular regular features was the 'Playgirl'Discovery'.  An undiscovered model, never seen before, with little to no experience posing nude for the camera.   Although the models were often young, it really wasn't about age as much as it was about their experience, or lack thereof.  Readers loved seeing ,and reading about, a 'new find'.  An inexperienced amateur model the magazine discovered and uncovered for the very first time.

I love featuring unknown models, regardless of their age.  Whether 19, 20 or 60, I love hearing their stories.  Given their undiscovered, most tend, like Matt, to be younger, but I've featured many models who decided to take it all off much later in life.   North Americans are for the most part obsessed with the young.  Maybe more specifically though, we're obsessed with the new.

All of our senses, but maybe especially our eyes, react more intensely to things we haven't seen before.  There's nothing more powerful than experiencing something new and exhilarating for the very first time. There's an anticipation and excitement connected to a first shoot, especially if it's a nude one.  The experience of discovery, for both the model and the viewer, are for a brief moment, insync.

I don't know about you, but when I see images of a model's first nude shoot, I always look for signs.  Signs of nerves or fear, hints about their comfort level, and signs of confidence and courage. Although I now there is an audience for it, I'm always uncomfortable seeing a model whose poses and facial expressions are like a deer in the headlights.

That certainly wasn't the case in this series featuring Matt by Jay from Unlimited Male,  Jay has a talent finding and working with new models, and I've been fortunate to have been able to spotlight many of his breathtaking discoveries.

This was not only Matt's first nude shoot, but his professional shoot and Jay says he was a pleasure to work with.  Matt has a great body and face, highlighted by his beautiful eyes and great smile. One of the things Jay most loves about working with new models is seeing how they react to being in front of the camera for the fist time. For this first shoot, Jay reportsMatt was a natural.

Blast from the Past: Joseph Bottoms

The Bottoms Brothers

Bottoms Up!

A few years ago, I did a full day's tribute to actor Timothy Bottoms. (HERE:)  I developed a crush over Timothy after finally seeing The Last Picture Show, and subsequently caught several of his other films from the 70's and 80's on TCM.  I knew of Timothy's younger brother Joe, especially his strong defined face and great body, but at the time, didn't realize I'd actually had a connection with one of his films...

Earlier this year, I again took notice of Joseph Bottoms, this time, after seeing him actually shake his hot bottom.  When doing my tribute to Battle of The Network Stars, I watched a clip of Joseph from a 1978 edition of the franchise, giving the camera a great view of his camera, after being introduced for the swimming relay. (see clip below)

My search for info and Joseph began!  Joseph began with appearances on television, but before long, landed the lead in the 1974 drama, The Dove.  The film, followed the true story of Robin Lee Graham who set out to sail around the world when just 16 years old.   The films success led Bottoms to many roles over the next ten years from big screen hits like The Black Hole and King of the Mountain through work in the 1979 min-series The Holocaust, co-starring James Woods and Meryl Streep.

After Dark, November 1978

By the mid-eighties, Bottoms' roles in films were fewer and far between and he began to pop up more on television in guest starring roles on shows including Murder She Wrote, one of the most famous shows for actors on their way down.  Bottoms continued to work steadily, moving from soap operas (Santa Barbara, Days of our Lives) to a string of work on Canadian television shows including Avonlea and Street Legal.

According to my research, Bottoms 'Bottomed Up' in three films.  The first two, 1981's Surfacing, and 1988's Born to Race were hard to find as I believe both were only released on VHS.  There is a fuzzy copy of Born to Race on Youtube, and a slightly better version of Surfacing on Vimeo.  Surfacing seemed to draw some attention for Bottoms love scenes with Kathleen Beller, whose nude scenes were much easier to find.

The Dove (1974)

Surfacing (1981)

Bottoms most well known nude scene was the 1991 erotic thriller Inner Sanctum, co-starring Tanya Roberts from Charlies's Angels.  I didn't remember Bottoms from the film, but I do have an sort of interesting story about my one and only viewing of the film....

Inner Sanctum (1991)

Back in the mid-nineties, while attending University, I saw the movie with a couple.  I sat next to a girl in a sociology course who soon became a friend.  One Friday night, when we discussed what we were doing on the weekend, she invited me to her home to have dinner with she and her boyfriend.  I had told her I was heading to the laundry mat, and she told me to bring over my clothes as they had a washer and dryer in the house they were renting.

There was a weird vibe from the moment I arrived, and the it got odder as the evening progressed.  It began with the girl insisting on doing my laundry, including washing and folding my underwear.  This gave her boyfriend plenty of time to 'talk me up' including bringing up whether I'd every had experience with a threesome.  This lead to dinner in front of the TV, and a copy of Inner Sanctum being popped into the machine.

A threesome did not occur that night, but not from  lack of trying.  Whenever the sex scenes came on screen, both parties gave me smiles and looks, and at one point sat on either side of me, asking if I'd like to 'play'.  I was intrigued, and even flattered, (after the fact) but in the moment was a little freaked out and bolted with my freshly washed and folded boxer briefs as soon as the movie's credits began to role.

The Brick Cavern: Anthony & Sergey by Richard Rothstein

When I was in University, there was a small bar and bistro we used to frequent, usually at the end of a long night of partying.  It was located in a small strip mall in a business park just outside of the city.  It was rarely crowed, especially at one or two in the morning and it had the best appetizers, and the best cheesecake.

Along the back wall was a row of small rooms, big enough for one table and a few chairs.  On each table was one of those vintage red glass candles with the white plastic netting around the glass. The entrance to each room was just a small entrance meaning once at your table, you really couldn't see out, and unless directly in front of the entry, no one could see in.

The row of rooms was called 'The Caves', and they were were the most coveted place to be seated in the place.  It wasn't odd to enter the restaurant and see no one at all in the main seating area, yet be told by the hostess that all the caves were taken.  The waiters and waitress' used to share stories of surprising patrons, and they shared they learned quickly, to announce when they were about to enter.

The back wall was brick, and when I first saw this particular location, it took me right back to my many nights in the caves.  Richard Rothsteinhas been shooting in these particular brick caverns for years, and the location is one of my favorites.  I if you check back on my past features spotlighting Richard's work, you'll see many incredible bodies intimately encircled by brick.

When I first say the location, I wrongly assumed it was a alley along a street.  Given Richard spends so much time shooting on the street's of Manhattan, I was sure it was a little cubby hole he discovered while working.  It was only a year or so ago, when working on a rooftop shoot, I connected this particular cave, wasn't at street level.  It's a high above the city, a little more isolated and intimate.

Much like those rooms at the back of the bistro, this cave has provided a semi-private space to many, a place to erotically explore with just enough danger, to heighten the sensual high.   Although the brick may be rough and hard, even painful, when bare skin is brushed against it.  Despite it's texture, this brick enclose is also incredibly welcoming, open to all who enter in.

I featured the Playgirl ad above a few years ago on the site.  I recently found the entire shoot in a folder and thought it was a good time to see a bit more of snow bunny Darris McCord.

'Six feet and one hundred seventy-five pounds of tanned good looks and eye-riveting pectorals.'
