Biomedical Hazards: Daniel by Chris Teel

'My favorite shoot so far has definitely been with Chris, just enjoyed the freedom I had.'

FH readers know one of my favorite artists to feature is Toronto based photographer Chris Teel.  I've been featuring Chris' work for over a decade and you can check out all of his past work on the site in my 2016 Quarternate post, which I recently updated.  Chris has had a busy year, shooting many new models before the world came to a screeching halt last month.  When Chris asked me to shoot him some of my favorites, his work with Danielwas at the top of my list.

I was immediately struck by Daniel's great body and strikingly beautiful face. I also really loved Daniel's hair, and how his chosen shade of blonde so perfectly suits and balances his facial structure.  Of course Chris' images also showcased Daniel's many other assets, including his torso, incredible legs and great butt, all flawless showcased by the underwear and jockstraps worn by Daniel, and the angles and poses captured by Chris.

Although Daniel had tried a bit of modeling in high school, it was mostly for fun.  He had helped out a friend with a project that she was working on.  Daniel remembers they shot in her basement which was under renovations, so while he was in a formal white dress shirt and tie, he was surrounded by sawdust, plastic sheets, ladders and a multitude of tools spread our all around him.

After high school, Daniel again thought about giving  modeling a try, and describes feeling lost in terms of who he was, and what he wanted to do with his life.  Daniel decided to take the safe route and decided to attend university and enrolled in a Biomedical program which could lead to a steady career.  The hazards of picking the save choice however, are gnawing regrets about missing out on pursuing your passions. After just three weeks, Daniel left the program and immediately signed up with a modelling academy in Toronto.

As far as shooting in just jockstraps, or in nothing at all, Daniel shares he's wasn't especially nervous and describes himself as a very relaxed and open person who isn't shy at all.  Daniel had some experience being naked in public at nude beaches in the past.  Although he's kept his more 'mature' work from most of his family, his partner was happy with the idea and supportive of his desire to pursue modeling.

'Before I decided to shoot for photos of implied or nude I did have to consider if it might be detrimental to my professional life and my family. A lot of times people can get very uncomfortable with the idea.  I eventually  stopped worrying about what people might think and started doing things because it's what I want.'

Daniel thoughts on...

Boundaries:
'In terms of boundaries I wouldn't want to shoot anything offensive to someone's beliefs or race. That can be a wide range of things but I haven't been presented with anything I've found offensive or too vulgar to shoot as of yet.'

Compliments:
'I suppose the best compliment I've gotten is how handsome my face is.  I really love my hair but I think more people are looking at my eyes or arms.'

Staying Fit During a Pandemic:
'I definitely try and hit the gym as much as possible right now that's not doable so I've been using resistance bands at home.'

Advice to New Models:
'My advice to a young model would be don't overthink it. If you want to do it, let it come naturally. People can tell when you're over posing or don't feel comfortable. Also practice your faces in a mirror learn what angles work for you and remember them. Also don't focus on how many fans you have number is not important what's important is liking what you're doing and being proud of what you put out.'

Working with Chris Teel:
'With Chris I really felt his enthusiasm. A lot of other people I've shot with can be very serious during a shoot, Chris was easy going, relaxed and took his time.'

Why He Likes Modeling:
'I think I like modelling mainly because it amazes me how different I can look from shoot to shoot like a new person. It fascinates me that effects of lighting and makeup on a person. I don't really have any dream scenarios, I just really like being part of other people's creativity and ideal shoots.'

FaVorite Face: Ben Mendelsohn

I posted in January of my new found crush on actor Jason Bateman.  I'd just seen the first two episodes of The Outsider, and was drawn to Jason's work both on, and behind the camera.  I paused after the first half, and only finished the Stephen King created series last week.

The series was so perfectly cast.  In addition to Jason, I was impressed and drawn to the work of Mare Winningham, Cynthia Erivo, Marc Menchaca and especially Ben Mendelsohn.  Even playing a tired and pained police chief, on the hunt for a supernatural killer, there was something incredibly sexy about Mendelsohn.

I've actually featured the Australian born Mendelsohn twice before on the site, without really paying attention to his brilliance as an actor.  I think I first noticed Mendelsohn when looking for caps of Simon Baker's nude shower scene in the 1999 TV movie  Secret Men's Business.

I also remember looking for his nude scene when doing an EMMY feature when he was nominated for his role on Bloodline.  I kept reading about how good Bloodline was, and intended to check it out, but after seeing The Outsider, maybe now's the time.

Last month, I featured the December 1973, and January 1974 issues of the vintage women's magazine Viva. (HERE:) Today, I'm spotlighting the next two issues from February and March 1974. Check out the main men from each issue on PAGE 2 HERE:

'You Make Love...
The City is your Stage!

Before hitting page 2, I wanted to share this pictorial from the March issue. I love male/female pictorials from old magazines from seventies and eighties. Growing up, most of the male/female pictorials I saw in magazine had, well, let's just say a harder edge. I actually prefer these sets that are almost G rated by today's standards. This set, The New York Story, was shot by J. Frederick Smith. Although rather tame, it's also visually really sexy and fun.

I'm a romantic. I'm in love with the idea of love. I'm in love with the mystery of love. It's an adventure without end. New York is the perfect city for lovers. It's not the beautiful, magical city that Paris might be, or Rome or Venice, but it has a magic of it's own.

'Oh and Dylan! he's the King Daddy Ruler of the Straight boys I love!'

If you check out Leslie Jordan's Instagram, you know of his crush on American Horror Story co-star Dylan McDermott, and his founding of the Dylan McDermott fan club for middle aged gay men.  Recently, Leslie did a list of 'straight boys' he loves, and of course Dylan, the King Daddy Ruler, made the top 5!  I think I first added McDermott to my list after seeing him in Steel Magnolias, and checking out this series of images, it can't be denied that he does indeed rule!

I know most of you have seen this shot that Ansel Elgort posted on his Instagram, but I still had to include it. I loved how Ansel so beautifully used his media platform, and his arousing assets to bring attention to Brooklyn for Life. (Local Eats for Brooklyn's Frontline Fighters in Brookdale Hospital) I also loved seeing that his father took the sexy snap!

Too Hot (& Harry) To Handle

'A Four Week Sexcation!'

I haven't yet seen Netflix's Too Hot To Handle, but I've certainly read about the show's premise, and noticed images of Harry Jowsey, one of the show's hot contestants. Too Hot To Handle takes 10 hot singles who are notorious commitment-phobes when it comes to relationships, and it puts them in an island villa together for what they think is going to be a four week sexcation. But when they get there, they're told there's prize money involved, and it depends on all of them remaining abstinent for the four week retreat.

After seeing a shot of Harry on the sidebar of the TVTattle website, I started looked for more of the hot guy with the sexy smile. It didn't take very long to discover a bit more of Harry, both his smile, and on one of my favorite sites to regularly visits. Check out more of Harry on Casperfan HERE:

Now, given I've yet to see the show, I have no idea if Harry is as sweet as he appears, or a total douche. I'll let you know once I've checked it out....

Cleared for Approach: Yves by macpics

'I just approached him because I liked his look.'
Ian, macpics

Whenever I'm featuring a shoot, I'm always curious with how a artist and model connected.  Today, in most cases, the nexus is virtual.  Photographers and models see, and often research each others work through their websites and social media pages.

As common as this is become, it's really been only the last seven to ten years that connecting through social media sites has become the main source of connection and communication.  Although most of us have been on-line for over two decades, it was really the rise of social media sites that allowed professional connecting to be so uncomplicated.

Given FH is rooted in story, I love exploring shoots which occurred when connecting was a little more risky and time-consuming.  Before the internet, photographers and models often used newspaper ads and magazine classifieds to get creatively connect.  In many ways, this required a little more dedication, as it could take weeks, even months, to connect and decide to work together.  I'm not sure everyone shooting today, would have had the patience to put in the time and energy which was required.

There was also an greater degree of risk.   Connecting on-line, or even through a classifieds, has a certain degree of risk, but in both cases, at least each party is aware of the goals and motives, (at least the stated ones...) of the other party involved.  There was another method, maybe even more common, for artists to find models.  They walked up and asked them.

I love hearing stories of photographers who used to, (or still do) meet their models in public, spontaneously and face to face.  I've shared many stories of photographers who simply approached a good looking guy they saw running in the park, working out at the gym, or just walking down the street.  It has always surprised me, how many of these encounters have led to a nude photo shoot with a virtual stranger.

This is exactly how the engaging Yves ended up working with Ian from macpics.  This shoot isn't actually that old, it took place in the 2000's, but risk and nerves have never stopped Ian from approaching a hot guy that he's interested in shooting.  There's a slew of old jokes that begin with 'A guy walked into a bar', and the guy in this case, was Yves.

The bar was near Ian's home in Melbourne, Australia, but the guy who walked in wasn't an Aussie. Yves was traveling the globe, far from his home in Montreal, Canada.  Ian had never met Yves before, and had no idea whether he'd yes to modeling, but Yves adorable smile, his fit, tight body and his sexy French accent made it impossible for Ian not to give it try.

'I fell in love with his accent immediately. He was so charming with a great sense of humour.'

As you can see, Yves said yes.  They ended up shooting at the house of one of Ian's friends, and Yves made great use of the headphones that were laying around, and laying around himself, so sensually on Ian's friend's furniture. Yves eventually ended up in the shower, and to join him there, check out PAGE 2 HERE:

Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street

'Fred Krueger! He's inside me, and he wants to take me again!'
Jesse Walsh

Growing up, I'd never seen any of the Nightmare on Elm Street films.  In 2015 however, I made up for it.  That Halloween, following the death of writer and direct Wes Craven, I created the theme 'Constant Craven' and spotlighted many of Craven's films. (see links below) The Nightmare series was certainly the star, especially the second film, Freddy's Revenge.

I was fascinated by the film, and infatuated with it's stars Mark Patton and Robert Rusler and did a series of pieces on each of the films actors.  They often mention the films gay 'subtext' and maybe that was so when the film was originally released back in 1985.  Watching it in 2015 however, there was nothing subtle at all about the film, nor it's intention.

Thanks to a FH reader, I was recently encouraged to find a copy of the documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street.  The film's goal was to set the record straight about the controversial sequel which ended Mark Patton’s acting career, just as it was about to begin. I hadn't heard the back story of the backlash on Patton, and the emotional toll it took on the young actor.

Rusler and Patton

Salute to Wes Craven

'Each new city unwraps a chapter from his life that is met with equal parts joyful and bittersweet detail, as he attempts to make peace with his past and embrace his legacy as cinema’s first male “scream queen.” Scream Queen also finds Patton confronting Freddy’s Revenge cast and crew for the first time, including co-stars Robert Rusler, Kim Myers and Clu Gulager, as well as Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund.'

I was fascinated to see Patton confront screenwriter David Chaskin, and learning how Chaskin not only denied writing anything gay oriented, but blamed people viewing the film that way due to Mark's portrayal.  The 'subtext' wasn't in Mark's acting, it was on the page, and how so many of those scenes, (the dance, the tighty whities, the biker bar, the leather chaps) were directed by Jack Sholder.

It was interesting to hear Patton describe how the film impacted his life, and although painful for him, I enjoyed learning more about him, including his relationship with Dallas actor Timothy Patrick Murphy.  No matter how times we're reminded, it's always gut wrenching to hear stories of the past, and how far we really have come.  Being a actor who was gay, especially during the height of the Aids crisis in 80's, was full of landmines which not everyone was successfully able to maneuver through.
