Take on me (Take on me)
Take me on (Take on me)
I'll be gone in a day or two

JD Roberts (then & now)

I sometimes forget the White House reporter for FOX was once a childhood crush.  Maybe it's because he's working for FOX, but Canadian born John Roberts also previously worked for CNN and CTV in Canada.  Those of you who got Much Music in the eighties might remember John, then billed as JD, was one of the music networks first hots in the late eighties.

While recently searching for images for another post, I came across and shot of JD with the Norwegian band Aha.  Reminded me of my mini crush on singer Morten Harket.  Also reminded me that no matter how many times I see Roberts questioning the orange goon on TV, I continue to find it difficult to connect him to those days on Much Music.  He's a competent reporter, but my disdain for all things FOX news related cloud my ability to truly appreciate his work.

A Look Back: Kyle MacLachlan in Showgirls

'Leave Your Inhibitions At The Door.'

I'm aware that 1995's Showgirls is not a great movie, but it is a flick, that from time to time, does the trick.  The trick, is to entertain, something only cult films, and certain films that are  'so bad their good' are able to do. Whenever Showgirls, and other flicks such as Mommie Dearest, Grease 2 and Mamma Mia come on a cable channel, I record them.  I don't always watch, but on some nights,,, only a really bad movie will do.

It was probably about the mid-nineties when I really took notice of actor Kyle MacLachlan.  I had seen a few episodes of Twin Peaks a few years earlier, but it wasn't that show that drew me to the actor.  When I was about 20, I was at a friends house for movie night, and one of the rentals in the pile of boxes from Blockbuster was Blue Velvet.

The next day, I rented my own copy, not to again enjoy the films brilliance, but to again see MacLachlan's nude scene.  I re-watched that scene with MacLachlan and Isabella Rossellini again and again...  It's funny, the crush was rather short lived.  By the time I saw Showgirls a few years later, (again, from a Blockbuster rental) I wasn't quite as drawn to MacLachlan.

Showgirls (1995)

It might have been the time and place, MacLachlan seemed so much older than I remembered him in Blue Velvet, a movie that although made almost a decade before Showgirls, I had just seen a year or two earlier.  It's fascinating how time can change reactions.  When I caught some of Showgirls on a 90's movie channel last week, I again was lusting after the actor, even while playing Zack Carey, the Stardust's sleazy entertainment director.

'You're gonna be a big star. Your face is gonna be up on billboards. You're gonna make a lot of money for the Stardust.'
Zack Carey:

With his acting resume (current sit-come aside..) MacLachlan survived Showgirls most unscathed. Elizabeth Berkley, who played Nomi, (that name still causes me to giggle... wasn't so lucky.  Berkley's acting was a little cringe worthy in many scenes, but you can't deny she gave it her all. This was especially evident in her dance scenes.  Normally a lap dance from a female stripper wouldn't do much for me, but Nomi's lap dancing for, and on MacLachlan at Cheetah's strip club was incredibly hot!

Berkley also appeared fierce taking on the required nude scenes, and she was completely naked several times in the film.  As far as male nudity, the only real skin was from MacLachlan.  There were a few male dancers in g-strings in the Stardust show, but they were never given much screen time, and it was hard to really get a decent view.  I'm guessing director Paul Verhoeven thought audiences would be focused on Berkley and Gina Gershon, and he was probably right. I can't be too critical of Verhoeven however, as he did give us a great view of Casper Van Dien's delicious derriere two years later his next film, Starship Troopers.

'Showgirls was a decision that was sort of a tough one to make, but I was enchanted with Paul Verhoeven. Particularly Robocop, which I loved.. It was Verhoeven and [Joe] Eszterhas, and it seemed like it was going to be kind of dark and edgy and disturbing and real. I signed on, and… I think they’d wanted Dylan McDermott and he’d passed, so then they came to me and asked, “Do you want to do this?” And I was like, “Yeah!” Because I was really into that mode. And I worked hard, I came in and did my scenes, but then I wasn’t really involved in anything else until it finally came time to do the press for it.'

'It was about to premiere, I hadn’t seen it yet, and I wanted to. So I went to see it and… I was absolutely gobsmacked. I said, “This is horrible. Horrible!” And it’s a very slow, sinking feeling when you’re watching the movie, and the first scene comes out, and you’re like, “Oh, that’s a really bad scene.” But you say, “Well, that’s okay, the next one’ll be better.” And you somehow try to convince yourself that it’s going to get better… and it just gets worse. So at that point, I distanced myself from the movie. Now, of course, it has a whole other life as a sort of inadvertent… satire. No, “satire” isn’t the right word. But it’s inadvertently funny. So it’s found its place. It provides entertainment, though not in the way I think it was originally intended.'

UnEnchanted April: Marco by Male Beauty by bengie

'April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain'
T. S. Eliot

They say March will break your heart, but this year, April's been equally brutal.   Most years, March and April are the launch pad month which spring us forward into sunny days and starry nights.  I'm not sure about you, but in here in the east, winter has yet to completely let go.  It's been incredibly windy and rainy with snow still stubbornly sneaking in while we sleep.  It doesn't usually stick around too long, but even it's brief appearance in the morning, is another slap in the face

Between the social isolation, and pain and death which surrounds us, it's hard to count on April's promise of rebirth and recovery from the long winter.  Canada was also hit with a double whammy last weekend, which no amount of disinfectant can externally, or internally, wash away...  FH however, has always acted for me, as a form of escape.  So... if spring isn't coming to me,  I'm coming to it.

When I was thinking of a shoot or set of images to best embody my desire for spring, even a virtual one, this series of Marco sprung to mind. Some FH readers my remember that last March, spring's arrival was celebrated on the site with a couple images of Marco by Male Beauty by bengie (Sprung)  I have been looking for a reason to feature more of bengie's shots of Marco, and now, seemed the perfect time.

Although I may not be able to count on April, I can always count on bengie to beautifully capture the the male form,   One of my favorite parts of bengie's work, in addition to the array of incredible models he chooses to shoot, are the locations he uses around his home and property. Although it's always hot and steamy in bengie's shower. or on his patio, .. some of my favorites, are bengie's shots of models outside.

I especially love how he captures his subjects connecting with the fields and farmland which surrounds his property.  Marco in particular seems to be enjoying his time outside on the farm.  Marco lets it all hang out, welcoming the spring heat and sun to spread over and warm, his naked skin and body.

Jonathan Penner: Now & Then

When I began watching Survivor Philippines, the actor I initially had my eye on was Lisa Whelchel.  I caught repeats of The Facts of Life when I was kid, and was curious how the actress who played prissy Blair would handle herself on the show.  Lisa proved herself much 'heartier' than the character she played on TV.  Although her sit-com was long off the air, given it's popularity, I was a bit surprised none of the others seemed to recognizer her, or at least admit to it.  Except of course for Jonathan Penner.

Survivor

Penner had his own sit-com history, appearing in several different shows during the 90's.  After Philippines began airing, Penner's acting past, including his nude scenes, quickly began to surface.  Penner appeared full frontal in two shows, Anarchy TV and Rude Awakening.

One of Penner's sit-com appearances was one I knew well, but one I didn't initially connect him with.  I always enjoyed The Nanny, and remember crushing over the hottie who played Fran's fiance Danny Imperiali.  Last month, the show's cast reunited for a pandemic table read of the shows pilot. (HERE:)  I recognized the actor in the top right hand corner and finally connected the hottie playing Danny was Jonathan.

Penner isn't acting too much these days, but he does still maintain a public profile, mostly through social media.  The actors wife is living with ALS, and Penner is quite vocal on his Twitter sharing the highs and lows of living with the motor neuron disease.

Rural Decay: Jacob by Studio1x

'The sight is a familiar one along dusty back roads in the country: an old roofless silo left to the elements along with decaying barns, chicken coops and stone homesteads. This is the landscape of rural abandonment that define regions that have struggled with generations of exodus.'
NYTimes

I think it was the work of StudioMGphotography that first sparked my love of urban decay.  Area's of abandonment, left to rot and decay, sadly, and painfully slowly over time.  These location were mostly forgotten, even when plain site.  It's fascinating how something so visually immense can be ignored with the passage of time.

Living in the country, I've seen for myself that architectural abandonment is not just an urban phenomenon.  Almost daily, I pass rundown and abandoned homes, and maybe most frequently barns.  Barns once filled with cows or chickens are now filled with nothing but garbage and unused open spaces.

There was once an old home near where I work.  It was a huge old hundred year old plus mansion, right outside the town, but visually protected by a row of pine tree's.  I used to visit that house often when out walking the dogs.  It had an eerie feel, not because it was so big, but because of what was left inside.

Although filled with dust and cobwebs, it was also filled with the belongings of the previous inhabitants.  The appliances and large pieces of furniture were missing, but there were chairs, tables and bookcases.  To make things even more creepy, those bookcases still had books in them, mostly children's books, those tables had plates and cups on them and the walls, the were filled with family photos.

It was a large family, father, mother and grandmother and at least seven kids.  The house looked as if the family bolted quickly one night, leaving with only the clothes on their back.  There were plenty of stories, plenty of rumors, of a murder, of disease, of running from the law or from debt.  What was so fascinating about that house was how those belongings remained intact for so many years.

No matter how many looky loo's, no many how many photographers or dog walkers toured the abandoned dwelling, those pieces of furniture remained, those books stayed in the bookcases, and those pictures remained on the walls.  It was almost as if everyone, even those weekend  partiers, had too much respect, or maybe too much fear... to destroy or move the families items from the rooms and walls.

Years later, the items would be gone, not removed, but burned in a fire that destroyed the home.  I think often of that house, that home, and the family that once lived there.  I've thought about it even more lately, given the current state of isolation.  Driving through my town is odd, eerie in the same way walking through that house was.  Most of our towns and city's are quiet, abandoned, like everyone got up and fled in the middle of the night.

While enjoying this series of images, my mind went back to that home, and the many abandoned houses, building and barns I've passed by and visited over the years.  FH readers know Jacob from his work with Studio1x from his recent Easter visit. (The Golden Egg)  Studio1x's Jim discovered this particular location, an abandoned dairy farm, last summer and spent the day there with Jacob and another model.

One of the things I love most about images of the male form shot in abandoned spaces is how their energy and naked bodies, bring spaces back to life, even if just for a moment.  I love the many spaces that Jim used within the shoot and the many angles and ways he captured Jacob.  I love how how Jacob's beautiful eyes seem to channel the many spirits enmeshed in the barns history.

No Tell Motel: Naked Ambition by Brady James Photo

'There's a sign on the wall
'Lovin' At Your Own Risk'
If it don't have what you want
Love what you wish'

Hotels and motels have always had romantic, or maybe more raunchy, reputations.  Honeymoons, and romantic rendezvous,  intimate and illicit encounters and wild sex with nameless strangers.  In all of those scenarios however,  the visual illustrations are usually of a couple, at least two individuals, though maybe more....  But... what if you're alone.  Motels can still provide a sensuous experience even if it the illicit encounter.. is with yourself.

Even before we had forced physical distancing, a night alone in a motel can provide the unique opportunity to explore areas of one's sexuality not normally delved into at home.  A deep dive maybe, somewhere you don't usually go on your own....  These intimate, and often individual encounters were what came to mind when enjoying this series from art model George from Naked Ambition.

Many of you have enjoyed George's work previously on FH, both in front of, and behind the camera. For this series, George worked photographer Brady James, a photographer he had previously worked with on a clothed, outdoor shoot.  At the end of that shoot, George let Brady know that when they got together next, he like to do a nude shoot if that was OK with him.

It obviously was.  When Brady visited Fresno earlier this year, they met up at Brady's motel for a more sensual shooting experience than their previous fashion focused shoot allowed.  69 George is used to being naked, he often poses for photographers and art classes.  When posing in front of a group of students however, his goal is usually to avoid an erection.  For this shoot, he wanted to ensure he had one, so in addition to usual prep work, he made a point of popping of an E.D pill an hour before the shoot.  Best to be prepared!

Take Me To The World

Although it got off to a bumpy (and very late) start, last night's 90th birthday party, and celebration of the music of Stephen Sondheim was an incredible two plus hours of music and entertainment. The show was a fundraiser to benefit ASTEP (Artists Striving to End Poverty). Although much of the post show press went (deservedly) to Christine Baranski, Meryl Streep, and Audra McDonald's 'Ladies Who Lunch', the entire show was outstanding.

I especially enjoyed seeing, and hearing, Lea Salonga and Elizabeth Stanley and it was also wonderful seeing Chip Zien singing 'No More' from Into The Woods.  I also loved Chip's not so subtle comparison of the show;s giant, ( who destroys the kingdom) to a certain orange haired ogre like douche bag.

My favorite performance of the night though had to be Josh Groban singing both 'Children Will Listen' and 'Not While I'm Around.'  There is nothing hotter than talent, and Josh's voice always hits me in a variety of places.  I also love the beard he's been rocking of late.  I could listen to his smooth, powerful instrument all night long.  If you missed the show, the entire show featuring so many Broadway greats is on Youtube HERE:

'Problems with arrears? Over drafted? No interest? Check out this gorgeous accountant and we'll send you an invoice for serves rendered.'

Over the past year, I've featured several models from Australian's Women's Forum Magazines. (HERE: & HERE:).  One of the hottest is certainly blonde Adonis Jason Boyd who was the magazines 1998 man of the year.

'In the flesh, Jason is even more divine than he is in these pics. At over six feet tall with broad shoulders, he towers over most people and he's also a nice bloke. He describes himself as 'down-to-earth, honest, straightforward and socially outgoing.' And his driving ambitions are refreshing. 'I'm happy to cruise along at the moment, you never know what can happen tomorrow. I just want to work hard and earn a living.'

'And how does Jason define a good sex session? 'Active and adventurous, a lot of sweat and a destroyed room. I like doing it in different places and spicing things up a bit. The bizarre place I've done it was in a nightclub. I'm very adventurous, I'd like to do it on Centrepoint Tower. '
