Grant Harvey: Model Behavior

$

It's fairly common when I'm researching an actor to find out they began their career as a model.  That doesn't mean though, that it's easy to make the transition.  Although we should know better by now, models, maybe especially male models, are still surrounded by negative stereotyped.  Most are not given the respect they deserve for their skills, talent and intellect.

It seems to me, that's very hard for very successful models to become actors that are taken seriously.  Some, like Jamie Dornan, have done it, but the transition wasn't smooth, nor without struggles and complications.  Like many, I was first introduced to Grant Harvey on the reality show The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.  At the time, he was credited as Grant Whitney Harvey.

Harvey wasn't exactly a break out star on the series, and often played second fiddle to Brian Kehoe, who seemed a favorite of Janice and the producers.  Grant was always professional however, and always seemed to rise above much of the drama going on around him.  His goal of being an actor was also there from the beginning, and not something he just fell into due to h is good looks.

Since his days on Janice Dickinson, Harvey's acting career has had a slow but steady track.  Although incredibly hot, Harvey has taken on complex characters, playing against type often as unlikable characters.   As he was on the reality show, Harvey has mostly taken on supporting roles, wisely building an impressive resume and solid career.

Harvey started out with guest shots on shows ranging from daytime soaps like Days Or Our Lives, through primetime shows including; Hung, CSI: NY, Bones, NCIS, All Rise, 9!!: Lone Star and Criminal Minds.  Harvey also had regular roles on The Neighbours, The Crossing and Animal Kingdom.

Billy Boy (2018)

Harvey has also had some impressive film roles, most notably his turn as Mikey in 2018's Billy Boy. Although actor Blake Jenner garnered most of the films attention, Harvey had the films full frontal nude scene and he was so in character, I almost didn't recognize him until re-watching the credits.  Most recently Harvey took the lead role in last years All For Nikki and has several films in post production for future release.

How The Sausage Gets Made: Ash by Andrew Bowman

'Here's a few new edits of Ash from the hide the sausage game.'

FH readers are familiar with UK based model Ash.  I was first introduced to Ash by photographer Mark Leighton and I've had the pleasure of featuring his work several since.  A couple of months ago, I noticed an image of Ash I really loved by photographer Andrew Bowman. I knew that Andrew had  worked with Ash and the image inspired me to reach out about featuring their work together.

Andrew generously went back to the shoot and edited and sent on dozens of new images from his work with Ash. I featured the first set this past April. (The Clumps)  When Andrew sent on the shots, he titled the set, the  Ash hides the sausage game.  Andrew's comment had me curious...  FH readers know I love story, especially about process and the details about how a shoot comes together.  With Ash, I was curious not just about how the sausage was made, but why this case, it was mostly hidden.

If any of you purchased Mark Leighton's book The Journey, (HERE:)  you know Ash is not shy about frontals.   Some may have even spotted a couple in previous pieces on FH.   Sometimes however, both photographers and models like to switch it up a bit.  Ash is also keenly aware that too many frontal shoots can lead to viewers losing interest, and a quicker end to modeling career. So for for this shoot, Andrew and Ash decided they'd try to get a little creative.

'I exchange messages with models before shoots to see what their limits are. Normally i can see from their profiles on Purpleport and Model Mayhem etc. Generally I don't pay models which can also be a factor, especially if other photographers offer them payment. I quite like doing implied nude on occasion - preferably if a few pubes are showing!'

I whole heartily agree with Andrew, and respect Ash's choice.  I know of many models who did dozens and dozens of full frontal shoots, all within a short period of time.  Soon, viewers were bored and it became more difficult for them to create anything new and unique to excite new viewers.  This philosophy is one I not only respect, but also follow with FH

I try to mix up my posts with full nudes, implied and physique and underwear shots. I know this helps sustain my interest and excitement in putting together new pieces, and hope it does the same for those who check out the site.    I would much rather a photographer send on a set of creative images with implied nudity, than an uncreative set of penis pics. There is a difference between images that tantalize and tease, and those that just just try to trick or exploit the viewer.  Andrew's shots of Ash certainly tantalize and provoke.  They also leave me both wanting to see more,  and at the same time, leave me completely satisfied and fulfilled.

Blue Eyes,
Baby's got Blue Eyes
Like deep blue sea,
On a blue blue day

I have to admit, I've never actually seen actor Matías Assler on television or on screen.  Like so many of the men I feature on the site, my introduction came through a single images.  I was instantly drawn to his  head of sexy tousled hair, his beautiful face and his incredibly deep blue eyes.

I wasn't sure at first if Matias was an actor or model and it turns out he's both.  The Chilean born Matias studied acting at the Universidad Mayor in Chile and his talent and good looks soon caught the attention of casting directors.  In 2013 Matias got his big break when he made his television debut in the successful television series of TVN: Vuelve Temprano,.

Matias was cast by actress and casting director Moira Miller for the role Ignacio Goycolea.  Ignacio didn't stick around that long however, as after a party is found dead in strange circumstances, with clear signs of having been murdered. A soap mystery beings....

Matias continued to act on Chilean television and in films and his success lead to his start in modeling.  Matias, and his beautiful blue eyes, became the face of campaigns such as Optics Place Vendôme and Stones beers.

'Here how God brought me to earth. I hope we all do our bit to take care of it. I especially ask the people who run the country to put emphasis on protecting our nature by creating public policies that really protect what was given to us just for being human. Let us aspire to have protected glaciers, free rivers, controlled tailings, clean air, a clean sea. '

Actor, writer and director Nick Cassavetes was born in 1959 in New York City.  The son of famous actor and director John Cassavetes and renowned actress Gena Rowlands.  Given his famous parents, Nick was surrounded by the industry growing up, so much so, he wasn't sure show business was what he really wanted to pursue.  He ended up attending  Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship, but an injury led to him re-thinking his choice of career.

Nick made his film debut when he was just 11 in an uncredited role in his father's film. Husbands.   It would be 15 years before he made the decision to give acting a try and appeared in a small role in 1985's Mask.   He continued to act in small roles throughout the 80's, but his career took a bit of detour in the 90's.

Throughout the early to mid-nineties, Nick went back and forth between artsy independent films, and a series of softcore straight to video films.  Nick took roles in the sheets with the beautiful, but thespian challenged Tanya Roberts and Deborah Shelton.  Nick appeared in films including the erotically titled Body of Influence, Sins of the Night and Sins of Desire

The late 90's had Nick back in more mainstream films and on television and his first turns directing features.  Nick went out to direct some famous actors, and some hugely successful films including; My Sister's Keeper, (2009) Alpha Dog, (2006) John Q (2002) and She's So Lovely, (1997).  Nick is probably best known for directing Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in 2004's The Notebook

I have been crushing over actor Mike Vogel since first seeing him in 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  Up until recently however, he's been fairly shy about nudity.  That certainly changed with his new role in Netflix's. Sex/Life.  I haven't had a chance to watch  yet, but I got a great teaser thanks to Xander7's great site.

A Favorite Place of Mine: Juanzito by Bob Burkhardt

'Juanzito and I shot most of the afternoon and early evening, my longest shoot!'

It was last November when I first featured the stunning Juanzito and his work with photographer Bob Burkhardt.. (A Perambulate in Provincetown)  When going through the images Bob sent on, I was instantly struck by Juanzito's look.  His handsome face, his beautiful eyes and his incredibly hot physique.  It was clear Juanzito took care of his body and worked hard to maintain peak physical condition.

I was also struck by Bob's location work in Provincetown.  Bob has always been one of my favorite photographers to feature on the site.  Bob's passion extends beyond a focus on his own images and his own work.  You can see Bob goal is also to promote and elevate the men he shoots, creating uniquely high caliber images to stand out in their portfolios.  What was different with this shoot however, was being able to feature Bob's location work.

Most of the work I've featured from Bob's was shot in his Atlanta studio.  I especially love how Bob uses windows and the corners of rooms in his studio works.  Since Juanzito was visiting family in Boston, for this shoot, it made sense to meet up somewhere close so Juanzito took the ferry over to Provincetown to meet up.

'When he took the ferry over and I enjoyed watching him turn heads as we walked through town. I have been going to Provincetown for vacation since the 70s and its a favorite place of mine. It was great to work with a model in my favorite place.  He was shy and quiet at first but that passed as we started working together.'

'I remember he was not a fan of the cold water when we shot on the beach. He also was a bit shy. so we shot some under the dock instead of out on the beach  Later we went to T-dance at the Boatslip Beach Club. We got so many good images that we met there again to shoot a couple of years later. A shorter shoot but again I was struck by his friendly nature and modesty. He graced the cover of my second book and we’ve talked about shooting again.'

'When a man shares his mangina with ya, you know you're gonna be friends for life.'

Earlier this month, I shared I stumbled upon Bravo's Below Deck Mediterranean.  I started watching at season 5, which meant I had 4 seasons to catch up on.  Instead of going back to the beginning, I decided to go backwards and started watching season 4, with the crew boarding the luxury yacht The Sirocco.

Jack & Aesha

The Sirocco had no lack of  eye candy especially the deck crew.  One of my favorites was deckhand Jack Stirrup.  I loved Jack's free-spirted attitude and especially loved his Liverpool accent.  Jack spent time working in the Merchant Navy as an engineer and brought those skill to the exciting world of yachting. With his crazy curls, year-round tan and smooth accent, it is easy to see why Jack is quite the ladies’ man.

Those crazy curls were certainly part of the draw, and I especially loved when they were flowing free, blown by windy Mediterranean sea.  I also enjoyed the ships Captain constantly having to remind Jack to keep his hair pulled back when guests were around.

Jack with João

Jack has a great body and although I wasn't a huge fan of his chest tattoo, his beefy butt certainly made up for it.  Jack and his roomie Travis were very comfortable being naked around one another and were often naked when in they were below deck in their bunk together.  Ok, so they were often three sheets to the wind, but it was still a roomie situation to watch.

John Cassavetes in The Night Holds Terror

'A group of escaped convicts take over a suburban home to evade the ongoing police manhunt, making the lives of the family living there a nightmare. '

A few months ago, TCM aired the 1955 crime drama, The Night Holds Terror.  I've had it on my DVR since and just around to watching last weekend.  The dark film noir was based on a true incident and was written and directed by Andrew L. Stone.  Within just a few scenes, I was easily drawn in.

On a routine drive from Los Angeles to home located in a residential complex outside of Edwards Air Force Base, factory worker Gene Courtier makes the mistake of picking up a hitchhiker. That hitchhiker is part of a three man robbery operation, they seemingly not averse to killing him if things don't go the way they want. With that initial robbery not going according to plan the first strike against Gene, the three decide on a Plan B, which entails holding him and his family of his wife Doris and their two adolescent children Debbie and Steven hostage at their home overnight.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)

In addition to the plot, and an unrelenting and tense mood set by Stone, I was also drawn to the three hot robbers and kidnappers. They were played by actors Vince Edwards, David Cross and John Cassavetes .  Cassavetes played Robert Batsford, the trio's leader, and the hottest of the three.  The talented actor, director and screenwriter has such a strong, distinct face, I knew I'd seen him before.

Of course I had, he had the same impact on me when I first saw 1969's Rosemary's Baby.  He was a bit creepy in the film, but also incredibly hot.  Cassavetes face was one made for the big screen. When I was researching John, and searching for images for this piece, I came upon images of his son Nick.  Nick Cassavetes certainly inherited the facial structure of his famous father. This led me to check out a few of Nick's films, several in which he showed his butt.  He's also an actor with a very interesting and eclectic resume.  Check out Nick's nude scenes on the NEXT PAGE HERE:

Aarnie should know about spontaneous combustion!  He's a fire fighter for the city of Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto.

Scott Nicholl

Scott Nicholl, 20, is a student at the University of Toronto.  he plans to be a lawyer someday, the better to cross-examine witnesses of his many charms.  Scott's a self-described extrovert who goes for outgoing partners, especially if they have long brown hair and dark eyes.

Victor Fisher

Victor Fisher, 24, is a picture of sensuality, and well he should be.  When he's not taking classes in photographic arts at Ryerson, he's combing the streets, camera in hand, for candid moments and photogenic beauties.  Whatever develops depends on what happens in the darkroom.

Sex & Violence in Canada

Having a bad week....

Picture it...  High School party, a small Canadian town, 2017.

Zach (Alex Purdy) and Zayne (Allister MacDonald) are about to have sex.in an upstairs bedroom.  Just as they get going, they're interrupted by a group of their friends.  When confronted about being gay, the guys make excuses about only smoking weeds.  Their group of friends don't buy it and want them to have sex with a drunk girl they've dragged in.  Zach refuses, but Zayne succumbs to the pressure.  He sexually assaults the drunk girl as the other guys look on and film with their cameras.

Cut to school a few days later.  Zayne shows up with a gun, shoots 12 people, killing 6.  When he comes face to face with Zach, he tells him he loves him then turns the gun on himself a few feet in front of Zach.

A few days later, Zach meets a handsome stranger at a candle light vigil for the victims.  The stranger, Finn (Callum Dunphy) begins stalking the 18 year old high school student, sneaking into his home and watching him shower.  Finn begins showing up in places where he knows Zach will be and before too long, they have sex.  Zach has no idea that Finn is 'The Strangler', a serial killer who has lured many gay men into bed only to then strangle and murder them with a leather belt.

Every holiday, I try to feature an actor, production that celebrates the day.  I had a tough time finding a movie, tv show or theatre production that celebrates Canada Day, but I did think of a show that highlights Canadian talent.  Sex & Violence began as asix-part show, focused on domestic violence.  The show starred and was executive producer was the late great Olympia Dukakis.  The show became the highest rated original drama in OUTtv's history

Sex & Violence wasn't always easy to watch.  Sure there was plenty of sex, almost every  male cast member was fully nude throughout the shows run.   As the title suggests however, that sex was often mixed with violence, and it wasn't always so pretty. The show was filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of Canada's most scenic provinces. Although Nova Scotia is almost entirely surround by the Atlantic, the show didn't give us panoramic views of beaches, parks or mountains.  It kept it focus narrow, on the grittier places, and the locations where it's characters lived and worked.

It was in the show's third season that we were first introduced to Alex Purdy's Zach.  With everything I described above that Zach went through, you might think it spanned over 6, 12 or even 20 episodes.  No, the final episodes of the series featured Zach spanned just 3 episodes.   Because  however, Alex Purdy was so engaging, so beautiful yes, but also so talented, we were pulled into his story.  Although the plot was at times unbelievable, the writing, directing and acting had it all seem both plausible, and most of all, so horribly ordinary.

This was Purdy's first big role and his job wasn't an easy one.  To being with, his character was fully naked in each of the three episodes he appeared in. Secondly, given he was a new character, he had to pull us in quickly, and have the audience care right away.  Purdy was easy to love right away, he's hot as hell.  His character wasn't however, so easy to like.  That rested on Purdy's skill as an actor.  It was helped by some skillful storytelling and flashbacks which had us learning his backstory with Zach in bits and pieces.   Looking forward to seeing where Purdy's career takes him in the future.

'Maples are such sociable trees...  They're always rustling and whispering to you.'
Lucy Maud Montgomery

Most countries, both their colors and their flag, have been embedded on men's underwear.  I think Canada's, especially the maple leaf, is the most revealing.  The stars and stripes of the red, white and blue tend to cover and mask, but the plain white and red maple leaf do a great job of spotlighting a man's assets.

The maple leaf on the front almost seems a hug a guy's package, showing off bulges and curves.  The maple leaf on the back, provides a spot on target, one that can be seen from afar.  Whether across a great lake, an Alberta Prairie, or a Prince Edward Island potato field, it's easy to spot a leaf in need of blowing.
