Skin in the Game: Alex by David Vance

'I probably first noticed Alex's red hair and pale skin.'

My affinity for gingers started when I was just a kid. I was drawn to an older guy who lived a few streets away in the subdivision I grew up in.  It wasn't however his russet hair that initially drew me to him.  I didn't know for sure he was a ginger at first as he was usually wearing a baseball hat backwards on his head.  The bit of hair I could see looked more a light brown than an orange or red.

What attracted me to him was his skin.  He was usually playing hoops in his driveway, and most of time he was shirtless.  I rode my bike, and walked my dog by his home as often as possible.  I was fascinated by his beautiful pale skin, his freckles and bit of auburn hair on his arms and legs.  My fascination with gingers was cemented and remains strongly intact to this day.

When photographer David Vance sent on his work with model Alex Espenshade, those memories came flooding back.  Alex has great facial structure and an incredible body, but it was his beautiful skin my eyes were drawn to first. The color contrast between hair and skin is often visually compelling, but exceptionally so with gingers.  I especially love David's shots which capture the tuft of hair peaking out from Alex's grey sweat pants.

David also has an affinity for gingers, something I'm sure played a part in  his reaching out to Alex with a DM on Instagram. Very little planning or discussion was required, Alex was aware of David's work and quickly responded he was up for a shoot.

'My shoot with Alex was kind of easy-breezy. No drama; he was very agreeable and easy to work with. His personality is very up and open.  I love photographing all types of skin for different reasons, but pale skin, to me photographs like marble, giving the body a more sculptural, flawless look. '

The Maryland born model and actor started out working as a production assistant at a construction company, but soon decided it was time to move west to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor.  Like so many, when Alex landed in LA he didn't really know anybody, so because networking in an attempt to make some connections. Those early connections led to Alex doing some modeling, something he hadn't really even considered before.  Once he had created a decent portfolio however, modeling offers quickly followed. Alex continues to pursue his acting dreams sees his look and hair color as an asset.  Unlike the many blonde and dark haired young actors he a auditions with, Alex see that his red hair sets him apart allowing him to leave a more memorable impression.

Jonathan Pointing in Plebs

'It actually feels like I'm naked all the time! '

English writer, actor and comedian Jon Pointing knew when he joined Plebs (2018-2019) that there would be nude scenes, but he tried not to worry about too much.  Jon hoped it would be like any other part of a new job, just something you got used after awhile.

'This is the thing, I had all this time before I started and I kept saying that I would go to the gym, but no. It never really happened! When I first got out here I got into a really good routine, I was exercising but as time went on I got more exhausted so I stopped going and things started to wobble a bit more! I wonder whether I am going to look different in every episode and will suddenly look like I've ballooned by the last episode!'
Jon Pointing, British Comedy Guide

I only recently discovered Pointing, and Plebs, but I must say, I love his look, and I really love the wobble. I've only seen a couple of episodes but the nudity is both sexy and fun, and Pointing an incredibly engaging and talented actor.

'The first nude scene I shot was with all three of us, we were naked walking through town. I think it actually makes it easier when we're all naked! It was a really nice day and there were loads of extras there but no one was really bothered about the fact everything was hanging out. It's just another day at the office for them, everyone's used to it. It is the thing that people have nightmares about, turning up to work with no clothes on, but it's all in the spirit of the silliness of the show.'

'PLEBS follows three desperate young men from the suburbs as they try to get laid, hold down jobs, and climb the social ladder in the big city - a city that happens to be Ancient Rome'

To Nude, or Not to Nude?

I know most of the readers of FH love movie male nudity.  I love following the on-screen skinning of actors, the trends, the surprises, the differences over the decades.  If we're honest though, we know that really great movies, those movies that we collect and watch again and again, don't really need it.  My movie collection, from collecting DVD's through digital, includes many films with little to no nudity.  A quick glance at my collection includes classics like Star Wars, Jaws and The Wizard of Oz.  Holiday films like Love Actually and Miracle on 34th St.  Films directed by Hitchcock, Donner, Lucas and Spielberg.

There are a handful of great films, where the nudity either enhanced, or made the film better.  The skinning dipping scene in A Room With A View, is the fist one that comes to mind.  The skinning dipping scene wasn't necessary needed, but it was like a playful intermission, a brief visual escape which made the film even better.  I also can't imagine watching Shame without Michael Fassbender's nude scenes, especially at the beginning of the film.  They were shocking for a mainstream film, but really helped define the character.  Without them, the audience would have felt something was kept from them, something audiences generally don't appreciate.  Director Steve McQueen wisely put Fassbender's frontal's at the beginning of the film, getting the needed element out of the way once Brandon was introduced to the audience.

So so films however, are a different story.  There are so many films I saw, and didn't really like, that I ended up buying or watching again, only because of a scene of male skin.  I've watched the original Jaws several times.  I've watched each of the sequels, just once.  Had Jaw 2 included a butt scene from actor Mark Gruner, or Jaws 3D, a skinning dip scene with Dennis Quaid, I may have actually bought them on DVD, but when they hit the sales bin of course...

Although I'd love to seen more Mark Hamill skin, there was no need for Luke Skywalker to walk around naked in Star Wars.  The prequels however, could used a dosage of derriere.  I hated all three of the prequels and barely got through one viewing.  If however, Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor or Liam Neeson had dropped their Jedi robes, even for a second, they may have warranted a closer look.

I have bought, although not kept, so many so-so and even bad movies over the last twenty years, mostly because of brief scenes of male nudity.  It was especially common in the 80's and 90's to throw in a quick male butt to garner additional promotion.  These two decades were filled with 'sex' comedies, with virtually no sex, but just enough skin to get horney movie viewers attention. These scenes may not have proved to increase box office in any substantial way, but they did increase profits, especially with future video and DVD releases.

Who really would have watched The Blue Lagoon without the nudity from Christopher Atkins.  We all nude Brooke Shields nudity was a body double, but we saw all of Atkins.  They story was really not that compelling, and could have been told in a page or two. The acting was not really great either, but it didn't matter.  I was obsessed with seeing the film when I was a kid.  I knew of the nudity long before I was able to get my hands on a VHS copy.  I re-watched the film, those scene over and over.  I bought a couple of DVD's over the years, the original release, the special edition and the digital release.  I know I'm the only one who watched again, hoping that Randal Kleiser might have slipped in a surprise.

I could list hundreds of movies who's success and reputation was based on the addition of a little skin.  Those few seconds of Sean Astin's ass are the only reason I DVR Toy Solders, when I see it's airing on the movie channel.  I wonder then, why some movies missed their opportunity for additional promotion and increased video and DVD sales.  There are some pretty bad movies, that could have been improved with a bit of male butt.  This entire piece, is actually based on seeing part of a recent film.  I say part, as the movie didn't really  hold my interest, even though the male cast members certainly did.  See which movie I'm I'm talking about by checking out the next page HERE:

Matt Battaglia: Actors & SKIN

Early when I got on-line, I remember seeing a bit of actor Matt Battaglia from the old Showtime series Bedtime.  I searched and searched but couldn't find a clip from the show.  I don't believe he really showed much, it was mostly 'tease' nudity with his body parts, even his amazing ass, mostly covered to both tantalize, and highly annoy the viewers. These three scene give us Battaglia's butt in all it's spectacular glory.

Kiss of a Stranger (1998)

'After declaring that all handsome men in LA are gay, Nova falls for a sexy stranger who shortly disappears without a trace -leaving her pregnant.'

Universal Soldier II Brothers In Arms (1998)

The Universal Soldiers are used to smuggle diamonds for a CIA Director, but Luc Deveraux continues to cause him problems.

Queer As Folk (2004-2005)

'I was asked to say a few words tonight. I asked "why?" They said, "Because you're a hero." A hero... Because I played football? Because after a lifetime of denial I was finally honest about who I am? I don't call that heroic. What *is* heroic is standing up for the rights you deserve, no matter what the consequences.'
Drew Boyd, QAF

Ahhh, Battaglia's muscular butt.  I remember when I first saw this scene.  The showed at midnight here then and I was still recording it on VHS.  I saved this tape for quite awhile....

A stand-up comedian and his opera singer wife have a 2 year old daughter with a surprising gift.

Although I tried my best, I could never get into Girls.  That didn't mean I wasn't into actor Adam Driver who I really started to notice after his turn in 2014's This Is Where I Leave You. All of you who love Adam know that he has that certain something something that can can't be denied.  He also has an incredible body and a great ass he shows off in the recently released Annette.

Bourbon Street: Jamal by Chris Free

'Most of my photoshoots are like jazz--improvisation.'

Given we're spotlighting his work with Jamal, its especially fitting that photographer Chris Free describes his work process as a jazz improvisation. Fitting, as the shoot took place last year in the birthplace of jazz. Although Chris resides in Chicago, he reached out to several models before traveling to New Orleans last year.  Jamal ended up being one of the best and most reliable models, leading Chris to set up several follow-up shoots to capture other looks and themes.

'I start by getting to know the model a bit--what makes them tick, why they desire to do a sensuous photoshoot that may include nudity. Then I assess their physical attributes by watching them move from various angles. Then, finally, I try to see how I can use the environment around us to give context to photos that draw attention to them. I like my photos to draw attention to the model, not the photograph.'

When Chris sent on his work with Jamal, some of my favorites were the shots of Jamal strolling completely naked along Bourbon St.  If you've check out my previous features spotlighting Chris' work, you know he often shoots models strolling naked in a variety of beautiful locations.  Chris has utilized museums, beaches, sand dunes, old abandoned buildings and the grounds of a luxury hotel.  Jamal strolling down Bourbon St. is certainly is one the most visually erotic.

In part, the eroticism stems from our perceptions of Bourbon St., and the visuals of the area we're used to seeing.  We usually see the street filled with hundreds of people, partying and celebrating.  During Jamal's evening stroll, the usually busy street was eerily quiet.  The shoot took place at the height of New Orleans pandemic shutdown last spring.

Chris and Jamel planned the shoot for 10pm and Chris reports the streets were deserted.  It was so quiet, that Jamal even walked onto several front porches, posing in front of people's front doors.  Although no one turned on their outside lights or opened the doors, I'm guessing there may have been a few eyes peeking out from behind the curtains...

'Jamal is striking in many ways, but the physical attributes that always get my attention are his beautiful locs, his sculpted, fit, but not over developed body, his grand dick, beautiful ass and legs. Can't get enough of any of these.  He's fun and fun-loving and wants to exude sexiness and playfulness. He really sells his sexiness in every post. It flows very easily. He loves to be naked and sexual. '

Of course every long walk builds up a sweat, so after strolling the streets, as shower was in order.  You can see much more of Jamal's sexy shower, and much more of Chris Free's work with other models on his Patreon Page HERE:

'He quickly devised ways and orchestrated multiple opportunities to bare all whether for childhood friends, high school buddies, art classes, house parties, gay and straight nightclubs, porn movie theaters and seedy sex clubs.'

Last December, I introduced FH readers to life and art model Stu. (All Eyes On Him) I always love featuring life models, and exploring their experiences posing naked in front of large groups people and in more intimate one-on-one art and photographic sessions.  Art models embody so many of elements of exhibitionism, voyeurism and erotic vulnerabilities, themes I love exploring on the site.

Given his many years of posing, Stu has an extensive resume and graciously shared many of his experiences in the first piece.  That however, proved to be just the tip of the iceberg. Although Stu has regularly exposed his body, he wanted to expose even more in his new book Lights On-Clothes Off.  In the fictional memoir, Stu takes his main character Eddie Saul  through an intimate exposure of a person's discovery and development of his hidden inner desires and his secret life as an unstoppable exhibitionist.

Given the book is a fictional memoir, I of course was curious about the how much of the book was based on Stu's actual experiences, and how much was made up for the novel.  Stu shares that almost everything in the book is based on his own personal experiences as an art model and exhibitionist. His choice to write a fictional memoir allowed Stu the freedom to change the names of people, places and  buildings as not to identify anyone other himself. All of the exhibitionist scenarios described in the book were not fictionalized, and are ones experienced by Stu.

Many years ago I hesitated to share my exhibitionism with artists I posed for. I'm sure some assumed that I was an exhibitionist since I was so freely naked in art classes. Some models, for instance, would cover up immediately after posing but I was never in a hurry. I'd hang around naked and chat with everyone and check out their art while they checked me out. (I didn't undress before the classes as that would have ruined some of my enjoyment—standing on the posing platform and being watched while I undressed.)

As I got older and more self-confident (in my mid 30's) I began to freely let artists I was posing for know about my other sans clothing activities. So really what I've divulged in my book should not be a surprise to most artists I've worked for. From current artists I really haven't had any comments other than praise for the book. And, I'll add, praise for the cover which was painted for me by a San Diego artist I've posed for many times—Jaron Stokes. His work is awesome.

Over the past few years I've invited non-artist friends to several of the performance art and art posing sessions I've done. One was me showering (naked of course) for fifteen minutes every hour, from noon to 8 pm, on two days during a huge art fair. This was a fun performance for me, one month before Covid hit, with lines out the door to see my 'show.' And I really appreciated when friends of mine would be in the audience snapping photos. Some complained about the steam from the shower fogging up the lens on their cameras or cellphones! lol

I'll also add that my being honest about who I am with my husband has kept me from ever having to hide my fetish. In fact, on our third date he came and did some drawing in a group I was posing for in a museum in San Diego's Balboa Park. By exposing the real me to him I've never had fear of disapproval or shock. When I pose online he handles the lighting and the cameras—how wonderful.

Stu is looking forward to future readings, both online or in-person. Stu does these dressed, and of course undressed, depending on the wishes of the host.  Stu is still posing for groups online and looks forward to when he can return to posing in person hopefully soon.  If you want to check out the book, or look into having Stu join you to pose, or discuss the project, you can reach him through the Lights-On Clothes Off site HERE:

'I loved being in the spotlight. Someone suggested It try acting. I had no experience,  Once I got into acting school, it all changed tenfold. It was no longer a hobby; it was my focus completely'
Matt Battaglia

Although I'm sure I spotted him earlier, the fist time I really noticed actor Matt Battaglia was during his stint as Drew Boyd on Queer As Folk. I know I'm not the only one who noticed, especially given one of his first sex scenes with Emmett (Peter Paige) was one of the shows hottest.  Battaglia's buttocks is a work of art and the show didn't waste any time in putting it in the spotlight.

Battaglia's turn as Drew was also noteworthy due to the type of character he was playing. Drew was a professional football player, engaged to a beautiful woman, who also loved sex with men as a secret side.  Drew let Emmett know right away his feelings on gay men, and they weren't positive.  Drew is ultimate forced out of the closet by blackmail, and by the end of his story arc, seems to be embracing who he is.

Battaglia was a great choice for the role.  Not only due to his physical looks, but also, because most of his prior roles had been straight romantic leading men, and masculine action heroes including his turn in the Universal Soldier film series.

Check out Matt's turn in Queer As Folk as well as a couple more of his skin on-screen on the NEXT PAGE HERE:

I don't get you, man! You know, one minute you're... Shit, man, make your mind up! I mean, you came on to me. If you wanted to stop, you should've said something. No big deal. There's plenty of women around here.
Randy

Some of my best summers as a teenager were those spent at camp.  Not as a camper, but as a camp counsellor. Sure sure, it was all about the kids, but for the counsellors, it was all about the 2 or 3 days between camps.  It was during that window of days, the fun really happened.

One of my fondest memories was my first year as a Jr counsellor.  I was about 15, and was paired with a guy who was 17 to oversee a cabin.  During those 3 day breaks, we would always head out on day trips, or just hang around camp.  Hanging around camp was the best.  I'll never forget one day going swimming.  We all swam out to a raft about 50 yards out into the lake.

When we arrived at the raft I was shocked that each of the older counsellors yanked off their shorts and swimsuits to lay out naked.  They didn't say a word, it was just done like it was the norm.  The other Jr counsellor and I just stood shocked.  Eventually we jumped into the water and yanked off our suits as well.  Our bodies weren't was developed as the older guys.

We wanted to join in, but we weren't brave enough to strip off on the raft. It was also safer to have our erections safely below the surface.  The odd thing was, the female counsellors were all just yards away, sunbathing on shore.  They kept their suits on, but from the odd giggle, you knew they were enjoying the view from shore.

A few weeks ago, 1980's Little Darlings was playing the 80's movie channel.  I didn't watch, but it again had me thinking about those days at camp.  They also had me thinking about Matt Dillon in his tighty whities.  When this film was made, Dillon was about the same age that I was when I was a Jr Camp Counsellor..  Dillon's character Randy is the ultimate summer camp stud and reminds me of those summer days  at camp in the early 90's.

'Grab your life jackets because this boat's going down.'

Earlier this month, when I featured Below Deck's David Bradberry, (HERE:) I mentioned how much I loved watching his friendship with fellow deck hand and roomie Eddie Lucas. Eddie seems like a really nice guy, sweet, caring and incredibly cute.  I know he goes through some 'Rocky' times in later seasons, but there is something so likable about Eddie.

I'm making my way through the original show and missed Eddie when he left the show.  I know he's now returned and am looking forward to getting to those episodes.  Eddie recently posted the promo for Season 9 on his Instagram.  The new season premieres October 25th and hopefully by then, I'll be caught up with the remaining seasons and can watch it as it airs.
