In the aftermath of the loss of Robin Williams many looked to remember his greatness by watching his films. Although I loved his turns in his big movies like Mrs. Doubtfireand Dead Poet Society, two of my favorite Robin movies were maybe not his best films. For different reasons, in the weeks following his death I re-watched two of films that meant the most to me, Jumanji and The Night Listener.

Jumanji was a flawed film, but I was still young enough to get caught up in the magic when I joined a group of friends at the theatre to see it. I am a sucker for any movie where elephants and rhino's run through a city. I remember Jumanji not just as a film, but as the cap to a wonderful day and night before adult hood really took hold.

The Night Listener I saw on DVD, alone on cold winter's night. The atmosphere outside my home mirrored the chilly temperature inside the movie, dark, creepy and disturbing. The Night Listener won't be everyone's cup of tea, much like One Hour Photo, there is very little to enjoy about the film other than to bath in the darkness and enjoy the incredible performances. Williams is joined in the film by the wonderful Toni Collette, Bobby Cannavale, Sandra Oh and Rory Culkin.

Macaulay's younger brother has had an interesting career. I don't really remember Rory in his first film, his brother's The Good Son, I think it was Signs that really had me notice him as an actor. Rory has that almost ethereal quality, delicate yet fierce, ghostly even, but beautiful. Sad blue eyes that are equally mesmerizing and distant. Rory's career choices have been interesting ones and his acting career quickly surpassed that of his brother. Of course it would be hard to top the fame Macaulay garnered from Home Alone, but Rory seems in it for the long hall, working steadily, but not enough to be over exposed or to start taking roles just to pad his resume.

In The Night Listener, Rory plays the son, maybe... of Toni Collette. Through just a few well written scenes, Rory creates a disturbing picture of trauma played out through is connection with William's character Gabriel. If you haven't seen the movie, and you are looking for a fun movie night, this is not the flick for you, but if you want to get caught up in a dark, physiological drama, give this filma try.

Have A Seat: Chris Topel by LightWeaver

Last Autumn, photographer Jay Rickard (Lightweaver) introduced readers of FH to the incredible Chris Topel. One of the things I love so much about Jay's work is that he doesn't just photograph models, he creates characters and scenario's which highlight both their look and features, as well aspects of their personality, sometimes ones which they have never explored before. I featured Jay's images with Chris in two features, Baby Oil & Beefcake and The Man Who Walked. The two posts featured two different locations and two distinct themes.

It is always great to discover a model with distinct features and look in front of the lens. I was fascinated with the beauty of Chris's skin, his freckles and the beauty and contrast with the white behind them. In addition, Chris has a great physique with an impressive, and impossible not to notice butt. Chris's story made him even that much more interesting, and Jay blended all his best features together within his images.

Jay hadn't worked with Chris in awhile, but after the purchase of specific prop, felt Chris would be the best model to help him bring a new character to light. That shoot, I think I am going to save for posting next week as I want to begin with this part of the shoot that I equally taken with. A simple black backdrop and a wooden bar stool. Chris looks as great as ever, with his face and eyes reflecting his growth over the past year, I also love the new goatee which adds a new edge to his look and images. Jay magnificently captures Chris's body and physique, especially with the stunning silhouette images. The bar stool acts as a perfect stage to highlight one of Chris's most alluring body parts.

I am happy to feature Jay's work with Chris for many reason, first and foremost, I have been featuring his imagery for close to 5 years and he is always supportive and enthusiastic about sharing both images, and story from his shoots. Secondly, as 2014 winds down, there may be less opportunities see new work from Jay. Starting next year, Jay's focus is going to be film making as Jay and his partner venture into the world of Indie films. Jay has been shooting the male forum for awhile now, and although he has loved it, he feels it is time for something new. That is still a few months away however so until then, hopefully there will be more shoots, models, and characters to explore.

'My vaults are deep and right now I'm doing a lot of sharing from those vaults on my tumblr feed and will continue to keep that going until the internet evolves again and some other new improved thing comes along. I prefer tumblr right now because unlike Deviant Art and Model Mayhem and other sites, I don't have to think about my content before I put it out there. '

I can share whatever image I feel like sharing at the moment whether it's some beautifully poetic, soft and romantic nude or something more erotic in nature. It's all good out there in tumblr land. For an artist like me who shoots such a wide variety of content I really like not having to edit myself.'

I was going to title this post 'Teen Idol Orgy' but then thought better of it given there is a brother and sister pair in the photo. I came across this pic, which I assume is from the early to mid eighties while searching for images for my piece last week on The Pirate Movie. I recognize most of the actors, although not sure who the actor is at top leaning on Matthew Labyorteaux. Nancy Mckeon is the lucky lady surrounded by this bevy of Tiger Beat pin-up cuties all of whom today are in their late 40's, 50's and early 60's.

He Bangs He Bangs...

There are of course many adult film stars whose professional stage names fit their career. Pipe Layer, Dick Cummings, John E. Depth, Peter Oh Tool and of course Long Dong Silver all fit the bill. I think however, the ultra hot Brandon Bangs has the best name. It is simple, classic and describes exactly what he does for a living. His name is Brandon, and he does what? Yup, he bangs.

I have not had the pleasure of having seen Bangs on film, I am sure his work is deep and his characters nuanced. I was taken however with the model and actor in this set of promotional photos, which of course, I am only showing the tamest of shots. Brandon has that boy next door gone wild look with an a killer smile which blends the good with the very very bad. BTW, did I tell you... Brandon Bangs.

Cotton & Plaid by JrChristiansenStudio

Although it is still officially summer, the weather is certainly in transition. Depending on where you live, you are either experiencing the hottest days in weeks or else holding Jack Frost at bay. Where I live, we are enjoying the best of both. Cool nights that are great for sleeping, chilly mornings that energize the start of your day and hot, sunny afternoons that have you wanting to take off work early and head to the beach or on a run.

While you still are wearing shorts and t-shirts, mornings and nights require dipping into that winter wardrobe. As I was digging out a sweater this week, I was also digging into my old desktop folders, going through story idea's that I either wanted to keep or ditch. I got a nice surprise in one of them with these images of the incredible Fitzgerald from JrChristiansenStudio. It was like they were waiting for me to rediscover them. Fitzgerald looks comfy and cozy in his cotton long john onesie and plaid blanket, with each both warming, and heating things up as well.

Jr Christiansen had sent along the shots of Fitzgerald last summer when I was working on another blog piece featuring his work. (Cornered) I put them aside for just the right time and I can't think of a better moment than right now. Jr's work has such richness and texture and always takes me to a familiar place. The images of Fitzgerald on the plaid blanket were like a trigger to a memory, one I am sure many of you have.

The heat and light from the sun, streaming through the window over Fitzgerald's body and the blanket took me back to when I was young. I am sure, like me, many of you had a plaid blanket, almost identical to the one Fitzgerald is resting on. Usually it sat at the end of the bed for times when it got cold at night. Our parents would cover us up as they tucked us in, or we pull it up in our sleep in reaction to the temperature. As I viewed the images, I could feel the warmth from that blanket, and the texture and coarseness as it rubbed against my skin.

Dance For Me

The 19th season of Dancing With The Stars premieres tonight on ABC. Although the show has always been rather liberal with the term 'Star,' (Kate Gosslin anyone?) it seems with each season the word has less and less meaning. I certainly crushed over Jonathan Bennett (above) in Mean Girls and Antonio Sabato Jr still certainly has it, this years crop of faux stars doesn't seem to have anyone really that excited.

Although he may not be a star, if you want to watch a real dancer, and an incredibly interesting personality study, I might suggest checking out Egor and trying to find an airing of PBS's Dance For Me. The documentary, I caught this past summer, looks at Professional ballroom dancing in Denmark with a focus on Egor and his partner Mie.

Mie lives with her family in Denmark and has struggled in her dancing career to find a partner she can mesh with. Egor is from Russian, and Mie, her manager mother and their family in Denmark as Mie's partner for a season. Although rooted in the world of professional dancing, the films most interesting aspect to me was Egor. His dance career and future totally in the hands of Mie and her mother, the cultural, and social difference between the two created both conflict and success.

Egor was passionate, talented and often unlikable. As much of himself as he gave on the dance floor, in his relationships, he seemed to fight giving up any more of himself than he had to. Ultimately it didn't stop he and Mie from obtaining some success, but it also led brick walls. I really enjoyed wrapping myself in Egor's world for a couple of hours, yet was glad, unlike Egor, I could leave the pressure's of his life when the film was done.

Getting to know Egor and Mie makes it much more difficult to care which celebrity takes the mirror ball trophy. I know DWTS is meant to be entertainment, just a couple of hours of music, dance and fun. But the true commitment required, and the many things one has to give up to truly make it in the world of professional dancing, makes any minor weight loss from some former sit-com star, or a change of life experience from a former reality contestant, pretty inconsequential.

The Bottom Line

I usually try to avoid labels, in life and on the blog. I really don't have any idea if these guys are gay or straight, nor do I really care. But... it does seem at times however... that whenever 'straight' frat guys get drunk, they begin pealing off their clothes, or even more so, yanking them off a buddy. I guess it's a good thing. If they didn't, there were be a big hole in the Internet and in the tumblr universe...

The Real Replacement

I know close to a year later fans are still morning the loss of Chandler Massey on DOOL. Hard to blame them, although he seem to lose his enthusiasm for the role before he left, he was pitch perfect in the coming out storyline. Some powerful stuff, especially in scenes with his grandmother and three EMMY's in a row later his departure is still felt deeply.

I have barely been watching since he left, partly due to time but mostly due to his replacement. It has been close to 10 months and Guy Wilson has yet to win over most of the shows fans. It is not his fault really, I am sure he is a wonderful guy, but he lacks depth, and although he may visually be close to the character, he brings such annoying body movements and facial expressions with him that is like a little playing grown-up in most of his scenes. The show seems committed to him, but the character basically died after Massey's exit for many.

Thankfully, in my eyes, Massey's replacement was never Wilson. Long before Massey took his exit, the show wisely began grooming it's next leading young man with Casey Moss. With Massey still on the canvas, Moss had an easier time integrating into the show and cast and quickly became the shows most active younger actors. He has been saddled at times with some thankless story lines (including making him a teen summer romantic Romeo) but hopefully the show will give him his edge back as it flows into the fall.

As the day grows bright
We are turning pages
And we write new chapters of our life
Some are strong and long
Others weak with sorrows
Keep the focus on the rising sun
Ace of Base

There are tons of quotes and sayings about how each new day and each new morning can be a new beginning. A new chance for opportunity or change. Problem is, when life is pounding you with problems and pain, the words often ring hollow. It is difficult to see the light when you're surrounded by darkness. Usually though, it is when the darkness subsides just a little, not fully, but enough to see slivers of light in the distance that the words really take on meaning.

Even more than the words, it is one's senses that bring on hope. When you first wake in the morning, that split second when you have forgotten, before the darkness has had time to take hold again. The birds sound of the birds outside your window, the sun threw streaming stubbornly through the blinds, sliding in and over your skin. The sound of cars and kids and life going by on the other side of your bedroom walls. Most of all, it is the visual, those first sights when you pull open your curtains for the first time that morning.

It is that feeling of a new beginning I love so much in this series of images of Warren Russell (DirtRoad) by Alain from studioAtruong. You could certainly write your own scenario about what happened the night before, but it is really rather irrelevant as Warren prepares to begin his day. The problems and pain have not disappeared, they are still there. But, for a brief moment, as you glance out of the window, you have a moment of brief reprieve.

I loved this set of images from the second I saw them. First, because Alain and Warren are two of my favorite artists to feature on the blog. I came upon both of their work last year. I first introduced FH readers to Warren with To The Woodshed last August. Alain's imagery made it's first appearance on FH last December with Overalls, the first of a three part series featuring his work with Joey. I have continued to feature their work whenever I have been given the opportunity.

'Warren is such a natural model - completely relaxed in front of the camera.'

It didn't hurt that this series also included windows, which along with doorways, staircases and long abandoned and forgotten buildings are some of my favorite places for a shoot. Windows are not just a favorite place to place a model by, they also provide so many themes which I love to explore. If you search 'windows' on the blog you will see dozens and dozens of stories. Whenever I see a window within an great image, I always want to know what is being seen, and what is being hidden. Who is looking out, and who is looking in.

The answers of course are never black and white. Often we look out of windows and see nothing but what is on our own minds. I really have no idea what Warren was seeing as looked out of the windows. I did however... get a feeling, that he knew full well there were others looking back in. I have a strong sense, that Warren was not just enjoying the view, but providing, with pleasure, a beautiful morning view for all of those gazing back in.

Family Business: Richardo by New Manhattan Studios

It was over two and a half years ago that I first discovered the work of New Manhattan Studios. I had no idea at the time how many fantastic images, and incredible stories were about to come my way. Photographer Wesley has an enthusiasm for his work, and the stories that accompany it, that makes every return to his site and blog a memorable experience.

One my favorite models that Wesley has shot is Alex Corso. I have featured Alex in several pieces on the blog, the first Sunset Meadow back in 2012. Alex has a great look, beautiful face and body and an infectious grin that makes spending time with his images a joy. Over the last few years, Alex has become an important part of Wesley's work. Not only has Alex modeled regularly for Wes, including being a part of various projects and exhibitions, he has also assists Wesley on shoots involving other models. With his experience behind the lens, and his experience working with Wes, he is the perfect person to support models, especially newer models, some doing nude or semi-nude shoots for the very first time.

With these extraordinary images of Ricardo, Alex's role as supporter was put to the test. Not only did Ricardo step in front of the camera professionally for the first time, shooting fitness, physique, head shots and implied nudes, he assisted through it all by his brother Alex. As you can see from the images, Alex and Ricardo have many similar features, yet distinctly different body types and look in front of the camera. Below, Wesley, Ricardo and Alex share what the experience was like. How it came together, what Alex told Ricardo to expect, stripping down for the first time, and what it was like having your brother share the entire experience!

Coming Together:

'Ricardo had never modeled. But Alex, watching the progress his kid brother was making in the gym, encouraged Ricardo to document all of his hard work with a professional physique photo session. I’m not going to guess whether or not this was an easy sale to make (we had been discussing it since last fall), but in January of this year, Ricardo agreed and showed up in the studio for his first-ever modeling session.'

'My brother is very similar to our father, which is, on the surface, non reactive... He looked at some of my images and said 'Oh that's nice, I want to do that.' When Ricardo started showing interest in modeling, he wanted to start first with physique and we talked about taking starting with print and taking small steps.'

'When I saw Alejandro’s shoot it was not only amazing to see his work but it also inspired me to do the same. The possibility of becoming a serious model, the fact of really doing what I have been wanting to do for quite some time now.'
Ricardo

First Time in the Studio

'Without a doubt, Ricardo walked into the studio in January with an impressive physique and I quickly understood why Alex had been encouraging his kid brother to pay off all his hard work in the gym with a photo session.'
Wesley

'It was Alex's trust in Wes that made me ease into the idea, seeing that Wes was serious and really professional with his work.'
Ricardo

'I told my brother pretty much what I tell all models that come into the studio, "just be yourself. As a model, you're expected to collaborate with the photographer and do what is needed for the shoot. That might be wearing a bikini in thirty degree temperatures, or being nude." But... since Ricardo's shoot was with Wes, and I have known and worked with him for awhile, I knew he had nothing to worry about. I told him to just relax, enjoy the process and follow Wes's direction.'
Alex

Brother May I?

'My feelings at the beginning, were supportive and very proud. As the shoot went on however, and I had to direct him to get into  smaller things, underwear or the implied nudity, my feelings were a little more mixed.  I didn't really want to see my brother naked, yet... I had to see him naked to see how he looked in certain things and for certain shots'
Alex

'It was kind of weird at the beginning, shooting half naked with my brother off to the side, but I got used to it as the time passed.   Alex told me, that if it makes me feel uncomfortable, don’t do it! Otherwise, do whatever the photographer asks you. That’s why your modeling.'
Ricardo

'I’ve known Ricardo for a couple of years but I certainly can’t say I know him well. What I did know is that he is a very taciturn young man. He possesses a gentle and quietly engaging personality but he is, definitely, a person of few words. It was hard, therefore, to determine whether or not he was enjoying being the center of the attention in the studio. The flexing and the posing came easy for him but, as with many new models, initially he looked like the proverbial deer caught in the headlights (or strobe lights in this case).'

'Midway through the session, though, he relaxed and we started getting some very natural smiles out of him. By the end of the shoot he did seem to be enjoying himself, enough so that before leaving he agreed to come back for a second session.'
Wesley

'When I saw the first pictures from the shoot it was incredible to see myself that way. It almost made me think I had been a model for years. I am eager for more shoots as the results of the shoots with Wes so far have been amazing and they make me curious to see what is to come.'
Ricardo

Happy 58th Gary Cole!

If you're a fan of television, at some point you probably had a wee crush on Gary Cole. My crush was in about 1990 catching him the short lived drama 'Midnight Caller'. Gary has at least 4 new movies coming out next year, was seen in Tammy past summer and last season juggled recurring roles on five television series which included; Veep , Archer, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers and TheGood Wife.
