And The Winner Is.....

Superhero Morph!

The beauty of our costume winner is in the transformation. Initially, our winner didn't seem to have a chance, a Flash t-shirt below a full set of clothing. But... as the party went on, the outer layer of clothing came slowly off, piece by piece.

We all then thought the Flash t-shirt and the skimpy blue undies were the then the final costume, but then... they came off as well. The Flash had now morphed into another superhero, this time for the final reveal of Captain America! The judges especially loved that the tall red socks remained!

Photographer Frisky Frolic is one of my favorite artists to feature, and he is a master at the slow, and ever so hot, reveal. Here, your seeing the entire set, but this series originally began on his site on October 7th, but didn't conclude, until the posting of the final image, and final letter in Convert on October 19th.

The FH Costume Parade!

Usually as Halloween approaches, I usually do a post featuring costume suggestions highlighting some of the hottest outfits for men that I can find. This year, I am showcasing images from last years 2013 FH Costume party. It was a studded event, featuring some of the hottest trick or treaters you have ever seen.

There was just one rule, and it was a simple one: Create a character using as few props, and as little clothing as humanly possible. The winner is featured in the post below, but here are some of my favorite finalists from the event!

Little Red Riding Hood:
Judges Comments: Bonus points for gender bending the classic character, but your basked shouldn't hide your basket and too too much cape!

Clown:
Judges Comments: Brenden looks hot and although the coat perfectly frames the torso, why the pants?

The Scotsman Trio:
Judges Comments: Bonus points from coming as a trio, but it took far too much effort to have those kilts lifted!  Only two of your wore tham as true Scotsman, shame on guy in the middle!

Mummy:
Judges Comments: Mr. Mummy won best way to wrap a weenie prize.  By the end of the evening, with all the dancing and sweating, that was the only wrap left intact.

Gladiator:
Judges Comments:  Nice Sword.

Dracula:
Judges Comments: You were close, the eye make-up was distracting, and without fangs, you weren't able to go all the way.

Superman:
Judges Comments:   Underwear was not really needed, but if you had to wear some, underoo's would have been better than the Armani's which came off as a bit pretentious for the Man Of Steel.

Jason:
Judges Comments: You were close, very close!  Although you didn't win, we did grab you for a special feature coming up tomorrow on the blog!

Jason' Victim:
Judges Comments: Very creative Simon Sherry-Wood, too bad you worn the same get-up at last years Fred & Jason's Annual Halloweenie Event.  Lazy Simon, Lazy!

White Arrow:
Judges Comments: Perfect costume and cut to show off your best asset.  Well played White Arrow, well played!

The PickAxe Killer:
Judges Comments:  The dusting of dirt on the derriere was a very nice touch.  You may have won except for your annoying insistence that everyone hold your tool.

The Climax Conclusion

First rule of being in a horror film: If you have sex, you die! Not a hard concept to to grasp, quite simple really. And...you don't just die, quietly in your sleep, you die painfully, usually by being sliced and diced by an axe, spear, garden pick or machete. This is especially true if you're one of the hunky co-stars. Lets face it, you have next to no lines... your role consists of arriving at the camp in cut off jeans, taking off your shirt, going upstairs and having sex. Duh! The women sometimes escape, but not the men. Those who climax in slasher films, do so for the very last time. To prove this point, I took at look at the first 4 films in the Friday The 13th franchise. Why the first 4? Well, they got pretty dumb after that and...most importantly, they were the only ones I had on DVD!

Friday the 13th (1980)

In the very first Friday The 13th, Kevin Bacon gave us a very quick butt shot, one of his first, but certainly not last, nude scenes on film. Sadly Bacon's character Jack flashed his tight little derriere for the very last time before being skewered from below. Bacon is the only horror hunk in this piece not impaled by Jason himself for in the original film, the slicing and dicing were compliments of Mama Voorhees.

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1081)
Above: Randolph with the equally alluring Mark (Tom McBride). The wheelchair elicited no sympathy from Jason.

Actor Bill Randolph perfectly personified what it meant to be a horror himbo in part 2 of the series. A hot body, the blonde hair, and for his character Jeff, not a whole lot on mind except of course for getting laid. Sadly, Jeff's final orgasm would not be memorable, not for him anyway. Although hung, it was tragically on the back of the bedroom door...

The movie's special features tells us Jeff was supposed to have an even more bloody, and naked end. Test audiences found it a bit too disturbing watching him, and his bedmate, being speared mid way through the completion of the deed. Most of Jeff's grizzly ending ended up on the cutting room floor.

Friday the 13th Part III (1982)

Test audiences must have gotten over their issues between 1981 and 1982. In part 3, cutie Jeffrey Rogers has one of the most disgusting slicing in the movies franchise. After a quick boink, Jeffrey's character Andy does a hand stand and walks upside down the upstairs hallway. While still upside down, Andy appears to get sliced right down the middle, beginning at the point between the legs. Andy's end was quick but not the final insult. As of being bisected wasn't enough, Andy is hung on the wooden rafters, dripping blood on the unsuspecting person below.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)

Unfortunately for us, Peter Barton's Doug was already submerged in the water when the group decided to go skinny dipping. We did get to see the back ends of a couple of the other actors, including the adorable Lawrence Monoson, (above) who was a high point in the films forth, and not so final chapter.

I am struck each and every time I post about Peter Barton, just how beautiful he was. That face.. wow! Sadly, Barton has been seen on screen his time on The Young & The Restless close to a decade ago. After sliding into actress Barbara Howard, Barton's Doug met a quick, and wet end in the shower. Ironically, Jason must have had the hate on for Barton's incredible face, as it was that part of his body, the killer chose to mutilate.

A Butcher Bared by Brett Kiellerop

There is of course nothing sexy about Jason Voorhees. A homicidal maniac wielding a axe or sword, slicing and dicing camp counsellors, often just after they have had a last roll in the hay. (see post below). But... in the hands of a skilled artist like Brett Kiellerop, that hockey mask has the ability to both conceal as well as reveal.

I have been sharing quite a bit of Brett's work over the past month or so, but this set, had to be saved for Halloween week. Brett's masked man is incredibly sexy, and incredibly eye catching. The mask brings forth both a strength, and a vulnerability in the images, and even with his incredible body, my focus continued to go to be drawn to those two eye holes, and the beautiful blue eyes within.

The man behind the hockey mask is actually Tim, who was 19 and fairly new to modeling when the he and Brett worked together. Brett says he usually prefers models a bit older as his experience is that maturity doesn't really kick in until at least their mid twenties. But Tim was both grown-up and very mature, not just with regards to his physique, but with a mind and outlook to match.

'Tim is now a qualified personal trainer, working in Brisbane. He has packed on massive amounts of muscle over the time since our last photoshoot, and he looks amazing! But his personality and maturity are the same. He's quick to smile and laugh, fast with a joke, and looks great in lycra! What more do you need in a model or friend.'

Who knew Jason V put so much time into manscaping, but we all know it takes work to be so smooth all over! Hope Jason was careful using that machete down near his nether regions!

Ghost Stories

Clearly, if you check out FH, you are well aware I love Halloween. Starting back in 2007, each October I have themed pieces to celebrate the holiday. Incredibly photographer showcases, salutes to some of my favorite horror movies and of course my history of Hunks Of Horror.

Writing is my passion, but I still require motivation and in most case, the images dictate the words that follow. This year, a concept from Matt Lee, one he shared in just a sentence or two led to the story of the back of the house. While spending time engrossed, staring intently at Matt' images, the story flowed out almost writing itself. I am a pretty 'light' person in real life, hopeful and happy. For some reason however, it is the macabre, the creepy, the gruesome and grizzly that stimulates the creative parts of my mind and body stronger than other fare.

FH is full of stories, hundreds of stories. Stories about me, stories about photographers, artists, models, actors, staircases, windows, basements, mine shafts, banks, warehouses, old sheds, abandoned houses, beaches, mountains and forests.

Every Halloween I encourage readers of the blog to check out my past Halloween posts. But I also want to encourage those with a few moments this Halloween season to check out some of the site's stories, especially the Ghost stories.

The Body In Blood: Tower Of Evil

$

Every Halloween, I try to find a new movie to watch and feature on the blog. My hope is to find a rare movie that might not be familiar to most, and of course it must have a bit of male eye candy. This year, my research took me to a naked male body, given the season though, he was of course dead, laying in a pool of blood. I think I came upon a gem this year, we shall see.... Full disclosure, I have only seen the first 15 minutes. I scanned the rest to make caps, but decided to save it for the weekend so that I would have time to sit down and enjoy it.

Tower Of Evil, also known as Horror on Snape Island is a British Horror film from 1972. Snape Island is a small isolated point off the English coast. A Team of archaeologists head to the island to uncover possible treasure but instead of treasures, then come upon a series of brutal murders. Whoever, or whatever is doing the killing, begins to pick away at the islands newest visitors.

Starting with end seems to be the theme of the day. The end in this case is the beautiful back end of British body builder turned actor John Hamill. The movie opens with the archaeologists coming upon Hamill's (Gary) naked body lying face down in a pool of blood. From there the movie goes back to tell the story of how he ended up there.

John Hamill's physique was clearly part of the selling of the flick, and images of the naked actor were heavily used in the film's marketing. In the late 60's, Hamill was one of Britain's most popular physique models before turning to acting, studying at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Hamill had a fascinating acting career appearing in television shows such as Space 1999, Dr Who as well as a trilogy of British sex comedies. Hamill also has the distinction of co-starring along side Joan Crawford in the 1970's science fiction flick Trog, which marked Crawford's last appearance on the big screen.

I haven't watched enough of Tower Of Evil to comment on Hamill's acting abilities, but although there were no frontals, (that I saw) he was pretty much kept naked for most of his scenes.

There were two other hunks stripped down in Tower Of Terror, Robin Askwith and Gary Hamilton. I had never heard of either before, but both had the look, and hair, of someone in a 70's rock band. Askin seemed to work steadily, the last seven years on the British soap Coronation Street. Hamilton was especially delicious in the flick, but his career seemed to pretty much begin and end with this film, with only other credit after in 1973. I will give a quick thumbs up or down in a future post once I finished watching the entire movie.

Those Who Wait: Bond by New Manhattan Studios

'We have some orange, we have some black...Halloween is this month...Let's do this!'

Usually, when one chronicles a year or creates a calendar, the starting point is January. Although there are nine great months of story, and images of New Manhattan Studio's work with Bond (Bob Girardi), given today is Halloween, I thought it more appropriate to jump in a bit closer to the end of the journey, October.

New Manhattan Studio's Wesley is a bit of a tease. He first mentioned his work with Bond months ago, and I could feel his enthusiasm and excitement over the work they were creating together. Over the next few months Wesley dropped little tidbits about how incredible a specific shoot with Bond was, comments about a fun shoot with Bond and Alex on a farm. Bond's incredible growth or new look and how amazing the last set of images were. Wesley knew full well he was driving me crazy, knowing I was just waiting to see some of the finished images. Good things come to those who wait....

'It was Bond’s sixth photo session with us and I very much wanted to get some head shots in the studio with the longer hair he was now sporting. For the first half of the evening we worked on white paper, getting those and other fashion-oriented shots. The concluding head shots were taken with Bond in a bright orange shirt. He still had it on when we walked over to the black paper where we would be doing art nude work using a piece of sheer black fabric on a black paper background.'

'As he held the black fabric against his bright orange T-shirt, Bond joked that we were just in time for Halloween. I laughed, nodded, and continued tweaking the lights. He still had on the shirt when we did the test shots. Looking at the back of my camera I saw the bright orange shirt floating on a sea of black paper and loved the contrasting colors. When he undressed for the art nude work I asked him to leave the shirt on for the first few shots.'

'The shirt stayed on much longer than I had expected. I didn’t see the colors as restricting us to a Halloween theme and I loved the bright splash of orange it added to the photos. If I had one handy, I might have been tempted to hand him a pumpkin or a black cat but we weren’t doing a holiday calendar shot. And I’ll stand by my credo, less is more. Halloweenie or not, it’s a dramatic palette and I loved the resulting images. I’m happy that they’re making their debut on October 31st.'

'Of late, the studio’s stylist/production assistant, Alex Corso (who’s also a model) has been expanding his wings in the studio. He’s been shooting with a second camera at some of our recent sessions. I’m glad he was hard at work at Bond’s last session. Unbeknownst to me, I was having “issues” with my camera during the shoot and did not get a huge percentage of my shots during the last hour. If it hadn’t been for Alex, most of the orange and black work would have been lost. I’m happy to report both that a majority of the pictures in this posting are Alex’s and that I hope to be sharing more of his work in the future. He shows great potential on both sides of the camera.'

I instantly fell in love with Orange & Black, and not just because of Halloween. Bond looks incredible bathed in both colors, highlighting his great body, his beautiful hazel eyes and of course his incredible head of beautiful hair. Over the last nine months, Bond has gone through a few changes in front of the lens, not the least of which was his hair. Bond's engaging personality also comes through the camera, and his energy and enthusiasm for his look, his work and that work may be perceived is clearly visible, making his images that more enjoyable, and definitely hotter!

I am not usually a fan of the tease, but in this case I have to take a cue from Wesley. Given my love of story, I can't just share one chapter, especially chapter 6 which flows so far into the story. Check back Sunday, for the full story, including images and video, this time... starting at the beginning. It will be worth the wait. In the meantime, to continue to wet your appetite, check out Wesley's sexy and spooky video presentation featuring more of his and Alex's work with Bond HERE:

'During this last shoot in particular Wes and Alex really encouraged me to expose hidden sides of myself and I think it really turned out great!'

Fallen Angel by Frisky Frolic

'For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment'
2 Peter 2:4

A FH holiday would not be complete, especially a Halloween, without the work of JayBee from Frisky Frolic. No one weaves that fun and fear I discussed with such creative and erotic finesse. Jay sent on a couple of themes from his Halloween themed shoots amd I was especially drawn to these images of the Dark Angel. Is there really a more perfect example of lightness blended with dark than beautiful black angel wings. Angels are symbols of Heaven, light and goodness and traditionally presented in white. A dark Angel means a fallen Angel, one so evil, wicked or rebellious that Heaven has cast them down, gone forever for their sins.

Happy Halloween!

'There is a child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly-lit front porch.'

One of the themes that arose from this years Halloween posts was the contrast and weaving of childhood innocence (above) with the much darker themes (below) that haunt so many adults. Both of these themes come together to form the core of Halloween, and one of the reasons I love the holiday so much.

3 Images below from LightWeaver

So many of my interests combine both the fun with the fear that we experience as we make our way, the best that we can, through our lives. I think the combination of bright, and broken, also plays a part in the art, and artists that I am most attracted to. To simply be good, without flaws....or to simply create light, without a degree of dark... is really quite uninteresting. There is nothing really more terrifying to me than a perpetually cheery person.

Happy Halloween To All!

Cool Confidence: Bond by New Manhattan Studios

$

Having just-turned 25 last January, Bond came across as the teenager from down the street. He didn't have a pretentious bone in his body. And while he was conventionally cute, it was the unassuming cuteness of the boy next door. With a naturally sunny, non-threatening disposition and a keen interest and enthusiasm for everything, his engaging personality was his most arresting trait. If you can remember Tom Hank’s character in Big, then you know Bond.

A fitness buff and avid jock and sportsman (“all outdoor sports”) from Upstate New York, Bond had arrived in the city after college seeking his future in the Big Apple. You had the sense that his pursuit of modeling was just a lark, something to try while he was young and in the City. Indeed, he had scant experience at modeling when he showed up in January. He didn't come across as the proverbial deer caught in the headlights, but there was nothing about his bearing or demeanor that suggested any measure of experience or confidence. He had the smarts to define his limits and to test his wings slowly, but mostly it was about having fun.

Clearly the camera loved the kid that night, and why not? He seemed to pour his heart into his photo session, radiating eagerness and an honest enthusiasm. He had worked hard to achieve and maintain a great physique and it photographed well. And if I call him a kid, please excuse me; he’s long chaffed at being mistaken for younger than he is. We met when he was 25, but a 25-going-on-18. Clearly he’s smart—very smart—but he has an unpolished bearing about him and he still possesses an enthusiasm and naiveté that many of us loose too quickly in this city. And he operates with none of the attitude and sense of entitlement that so many models in this city bring into the studio. Indeed, that’s part of his charm; he seems to have no sense of the potential power of his looks.

But I get ahead of myself. I was no more aware of the potential of his looks than he appeared to be when we first started working together. At the end of the first night, it was his eagerness and enthusiasm for what he was doing, not his looks, that earned him a callback session in February. I thought “two sessions” would do it for Bond. (How many pictures of the Tom Hanks-kid-next door did the studio need?) But at the end of his second shoot, his passion for what he was seeing on the back of the camera earned him a third session. (Hint to models: enthusiastic appreciation of the photographer’s work will get you more work.)

Late in the summer Bond announced that he was moving to California at the end of the year. Having noticed a new potential in the young man, I put him on notice that I wanted to get in one more session with him before he left. That fifth session finally came in October, just a week prior to his departure from New York.

We plotted for a full day of work, starting in the gracious home and studio of a designer in midtown Manhattan, then to shooting in the streets, then under lights in the studio, and finally under the stars in what was to be a fitting farewell tribute: a night-time shoot with the New York skyline in the background. We got most of what we wanted that day, but ultimately we never made it into the studio and I was disappointed that we failed to get a planned session of art nudes.

For our final session I asked that he give us a different look; I asked him to loose the goatee and show up with some scruff. I knew that his facial hair was partially designed to avoid “looking like a kid,” but he agreed and shaved off the goatee. I hadn’t seen him in close to three months when he arrived for work. I was impressed by his looks and the scruff looked hot. However, again, it wasn’t until that night when I started editing the new images that I was struck by just how different his new look was. And after a while I realized that the biggest difference wasn’t the hair on his chin: it was the hair on the top of his head. In this session he had a glorious mane. And in this session he radiated something that I had not seen before: cool confidence and boldness.

Bond’s new sense of assurance as a model left me both elated and depressed. I was elated at having captured what was clearly our best work yet and depressed that we’d failed to make it into the studio one last time. In his final days in New York I prevailed upon him to try to find the time to schedule one last session in the studio.

As I have said, Bond’s most appealing quality is his eagerness and enthusiasm. He made the time and we literally worked into the late hours of the night on his last day in New York. Wanting to capitalize on his new confidence as a model, I told him my objectives for the shoot were for him to push himself into new territory. Knowing that he could nail Tom Hanks cute, I wanted to see if he could do Marlon Brando’s smoulder, James Dean’s bad-boy swagger and cockiness. I told him his challenge was to go from being the boyfriend of every mother’s dreams to the boyfriend of every father’s nightmares.

To be honest, I didn’t know if he could pull it off. But I was impressed with his determination when he showed up in the studio with a pack of Marlboros rolled into the sleeve of his T-shirt and told me that he’d been on-line studying pictures of James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. "OK! Sit down and let’s go for it!” (By the way, the cigarettes were just props for this serious athlete.)

I will let the viewer decide how well Bond measured up to the challenge. For my part, I look at the pictures we captured last January and have a hard time reconciling the kid in those pictures with the confident hunk I see in our work in October. Yes, he’s more mature. He’s better looking, no doubt. But he doesn't have to worry about not looking his age any more, he’s nailed “twenty-five.” Handsomely. But from a photographer’s standpoint, the most impressive (and for me, surprising) change is something he’s projecting that hadn’t been there before: Sexiness.

On a technical note, I regret to report that I had serious camera issues during the second half of the final shoot. Fortunately the studio’s stylist and production assistant, Alex Corso, was shooting with a second camera. Many of the pictures in the Halloween post (including many of the best) were taken by Alex

I am pleased to announce that Bond has been chosen as the cover model for the studio’s 2014 New York Models Portfolio,Gramercy Square. It will go on sale in December and feature previously unpublished pictures of Bond and five more models that passed through our New York studios in 2014. You can see a preview HERE:

You can see more on the studio’s New Manhattan Studios website. Readers of Favorite Hunks are invited to view a special video presentation of Bond’s photo sessions HERE: It quickly takes the viewer through the past year of photo shoots from January to October, with many images not seen on FH.

As disappointing as it was loosing so many great shots from the last session, Bond will return to New York City one more time before moving to California at the end of the year. He’s agreed to try to make time for a reshoot. That would be session number seven. But who’s counting? Stay tuned.

'I still don’t think Bond has any awareness of the power of his looks. There still isn’t a pretentious bone in his body. He’s still the cute kid next door... who can smoulder and swagger with the best of them!'

It is always a honour when an artist or model entrusts me to feature their work. For most of the artists I profile, photography is not just a job, but a passionate pursuit. Unveiling the results for the exposure of the Internet's critical eye can be a risk It is especially gratifying for me, when I am able to go behind the scenes and through images, detail and share the evolution of the creative process. As I stated in Friday's Halloween feature, New Manhattan's Studios owner Wes first began mentioning his work with New York model Bond earlier in the year. I could instantly detect the excitement and enthusiasm Wes had for both Bond, and the work they were creating together.

'When Bond presented himself in the studio on a frigid January night in the first days of the year I had no reason to think that he would become an enduring presence in the studio. We have now worked with him six times in the past ten months. Nor did I see anything that first night to suggest there was potential for him to blossom into one of the most compelling models would work with in 2014. Today he holds the distinction of being the second-most photographed model in the studio’s portfolio.'
Wes

Wes, along with stylist and production assistant Alex Corso, (pictured assisting Bond in some of the images) had spent 9 months and 6 shoots capturing moments. Moments in Studio, moments on a farm, moments out and about in Manhattan. The locations were not all that changed. Wes and Alex captured different looks, different hairstyles and different degree's of risk within the work.

The changes were not just with Bond, the one in front of the lens, changes were also occurring with Wes and Alex, the ones behind it. Alex, also a model has been assisting Wes for awhile now, but with Bond found himself taking on more and more creative responsibility. Instead of assisting with conveying just Wes's vision, as second photographer on some of the shoots, Alex found himself looking to convey his own vision at times, putting his own stamps on the images produced. This came in very handy on the last shoot as Wes explained in the previous post. Issues with his camera, led to it mostly being Alex's images being used the Orange & Black presentation.

'Shooting Bond was interesting. I'm obviously working with a sexy nude man in front of me, but at the same time he is a person I sit down at a bar and have drinks with. When I shoot a person I have some background with, I tend to be more conservative, making the pictures more about the facial expression than the body. The face should capture the viewer’s attention, making them more interested in the person, not just "a hot nude guy." On that that note, when it comes to posing, Bond's facial expressions are great, he can be shy, aggressive, flirtatious or simply just hot.'

'Wes and Alex are a fantastic team. I have been working with them for almost a year now. Their friendly and professional nature has given me confidence in front the camera that definitely didn't exist before.'

That confidence Bond describes can be beautifully seen within the evolution of the images in the piece below. The images span their work over the last nine months and most of the last six shoots. I have purposed saved the images from the farm, in the hopes of a more detailed piece in the future. The words, all from Wes, detail the process from beginning to the October shoot which produced the work seen on Halloween. Thanks to Bond, Alex and Wes for sharing both the images, and the story of how they all came together!

Halloween: Aftermath

My Halloween was a bit of bust, a work crisis had me home too late to hand out candy and too tired to head out. Hoping to make up for it with plans tonight! At least I did didn't end up like the guy in the image above. Hooking up with someone at a party is great, but the walk, or in this case subway ride, is a bit more.... well, obvious and a tad embarrassing, if that party is a Halloween party.

Although they didn't attend the official FH Halloween bash, The Property Brothers, although fully covered, showed off why so many love them! Voted on by their fans, they take on The classic Dr. Seuss inspired characters of Thing Jon and Thing Drew. Check out my previous post on the popular pair HERE:
