Instagrams That Inspire: Austin Falk

Although I cannot bring myself to watch a minute of 2 Broke Girls, I can bring myself to admire it's newest cast member. Even without having to sit through the horrid dialogue, actor Austin Falk (Nash) can be appreciated visually in clips with the sound off. With Two and a Half Men now history, I guess, there might be an audience for viewers who like lame, not to mention endless, penis jokes, but the producers were smart to hedge their bets with the hiring of the delicious Mr. Falk.

Austin has an incredible body yes, but it is that face and smile that had sites and blogs in a tizzy since his debut. Austin got his start in Devilish Charm, from who else, director David DeCoteau. Although not a huge fan of his films, David certainly has an eye for beauty and young talent so I think Devilish Charm requires a bit more research.

Ill-Fated: Vaughn by Robert Colgan

'Unfortunately this was, I feel, one of my most ill-fated and least productive sessions.'

Of all the artists I have featured, I am not sure there is another, who has taken me into so many places, and so many worlds, that no longer exist. Robert Colgan has taken me not just to old abandoned buildings and warehouses, Robert has taken me, and FH, through farms, bank vaults and even a prison, deserted long ago. Today Robert shares another fascinating structure, Veterans Memorial Hall, the building, demolished not long after this shoot. Robert is joined once again on this journey by Vaughn

'It was my wonderful model Vaughn who first answered the call to action and visually explore and record a space soon to disappear. Unfortunately this also required dodging areas of active demolition, but Vaughn always is game for whatever environment you place him. Never shies away from a challenge. Of course, this is what yields an exciting image.' Robert's images of Vaughn have always been some of my favorites and many of you remember the first time I profiled their work together back in 2012. (A Major Distraction) In that feature, Robert captured Vaughn in and around a recently foreclosed property in Robert's neighbourhood. In preparation for that shoot, Robert had spent a few days preparing for the shoot, readying the property and location. With Veterans Memorial Hall, there was little time to prep, in fact the entire shoot was a little rushed, trying to get shots in before they were discovered and found out.

This was Robert's first shoot in the location and the limited time left Robert frustrated with all the shots he was unable to get. Vaughn has been out late the night before, and with his college demands was a bit tired. Despite this, the 22 year old model was his typical creative self, receptive to ideas and willing as always, to try tough positions, precariously posing in risky corners and on narrow staircases as they hurried to get their shots. Vaughn enjoys being in front of the camera and being creative but it was a rushed effort to try as many variations before we had to leave.' Usually, when you don't get the shots you want, you can reschedule and give it another go. In this case, Ill-fated was not the missed shots, but with the building's impending demolition, they were shots that would never come to be.

Robert's account of the shoot is one of the reasons I love delving into story. When I first saw Robert's blog post about the shoot I was drawn in initially by seeing more of his work with Vaughn, but I was kept in by windows, staircases, metal and brick that surrounded him. Although Robert may lament what he missed, I can only be grateful for what I am lucky enough to get to see.

Robert shares that here was a lot of controversy regarding the building. 'It had been used as a meeting hall for various veterans organizations and made a profit by renting out the huge theatre and accompanying exhibition halls for many different events. Arnold Schwarzenegger began his world renowned health and fitness competition called the Arnold Classic here in Columbus at this very building.'

'It was sad to see the plinth outside the building that used to display a larger than life bronze statue of Arnold all clipped and battered with the ruins behind. I was lucky enough to have a friend grant me access to this building. It was very different in that it was so immediately vacated and it didn't have the same sense of decay as many other locations I've utilized in the past. There was also a weird sense that others had found their way into the place and were probably lurking in the shadows. Sometimes we heard sounds that defied explanation, so we wondered if we were being watched.'

Manly Mammary Moment Of The Week:

Paul Telfer

Alexandros Kiriakis (Xander)
Days Of Our Lives
May 1st, 2015

This past February I posted about actor Paul Telfer's arrival in Salem. (Who Dat?) I haven't watch much of the show since, but was inspired to DVR Friday's episode after seeing some shirtless previews. Soap Opera's have always known how to use a shirtless scene, but Paul Telfer's has got to be one of the hottest!

In my February post, Telfer was playing Mr. Damon, but the show, wisely sensing Telfer's pecs appeal, gave him a new character, this one a family member who they can use beyond just being one of Victor's henchman. I could watch Paul Telfer shirtless all day. (I must schedule such a day...) Besides that incredible torso, Telfer also has a swagger, and can act, which just completes the already full package. The show, (until the finally recast Will) is still not watchable enough for me, but Telfer will has me aching for a future return.

Quiet Riot

'Two first-year students at Oxford University join the infamous Riot Club, where reputations can be made or destroyed over the course of a single evening.'

If I were to have assembled my dream cast of young, hot English actors, I am quite sure Sam Claflin, Max Irons and Douglas Booth would all have made the list.

I have featured each of these talented thespians on FH but was surprised to only learn last week they starred together in last years The Riot Club. I have yet to watch the film, but love the premise. I am guessing from my search there is little to no skin, but I am still looking forward to seeing these three go toe to toe in what I hope is well written material!

Claflin & Company shot by Blair Getz Mezibov for Mr. Porter

Talk me through your characters.

MR CLAFLIN: My character, Alistair Ryle, is the brother of an ex-president of the Riot Club. He’s a young man who has always lived in his brother's shadow.

MR IRONS: Mine, Miles, isn't from the same background as the others and becomes hypnotised by the idea of being at the top table.

MR BOOTH: And Harry, who I play, is a more senior member. He’s a young man with a title and the keys to an old country pile waiting for him when he graduates. He already has his whole life planned out for him – fixing leaky ceilings, ushering tourists through his living room etc – and as a result he sees this as the only time in his life when he's able to cut loose.

Balance & Hold: Steven by Karl Royce

'I'm not afraid to get my clothes off or put some wacky clothes on... '

Continuing his goal of celebrating male beauty through art, London artist Karl Royce shares these phenomenal images of model Steven Dicosta. As someone with a weakness for redheads, I had discovered Steven's work on ModelMayhem a few months ago. I was intimately draw to his work. It was not just that incredible hair, Steven has wonderfully warm face and beautiful brown eyes. The London model also has a crazy hot chest and torso and knows to how to use both his face and body in the creation of exceptionally strong imagery.

Karl's focus on celebration certainly applies to this set of images. Many artist work with a model in the creation of a theme or concept, Karl, even when utilizing a concept (the Chair) keeps his focus on his model, bringing out their best and letting them shine. Some of my favorite images of Karl's are his captures of models in front of the plain, yet dramatic black background. Through pose and lighting, Karl always manages to create images that not only high lights, but beautifully exaggerates color and form.

Steven loves shooting artistic images, and I love the artistry of the statuesque poses he created in this series. Through the
poses, flexibility and body movement, Karl captures incredible shots which celebrate and spotlight, Steven's muscle and physique, beautiful skin as well as every freckle and patch of red covering his body. I also love Steven's hand placement and facial expressions. Although totally naked, balancing in positions, many difficult to hold, Steven appears very 'still'. Many of the captures appear to give a nod, paying homage to Rodin's The Thinker and other classic sculptures.

'Steve is the type of model that goes that just that bit little further to try and achieve the artist`s concept. Of Italian decent but he has deep copper hair and the pale alabaster skin associated with his colouring., sprinkled freckles with that just add to his look. A compact but perfectly formed body which maintains with a healthy lifestyle and yoga and he has no attitude is funny and quick witted. A model that I would be happy to book again and again!'

Take Me To Church: Eddy by LightWeaver

'I love contrasts and Eddy is definitely the personification of thematic contrasts which makes him very unique.'

Contrasts, especially visual contrasts, is one of my favorite things to explore on FH. I love images that are able to capture different, often opposing features, blending them into great captures. I love when artists are able to blend delicate beauty and movement with unbound energy and physical strength. Although

Indianapolis photographer Jay Rickard (LightWeaver) always produces beautiful contrasts with in his work. One of my favorite parts of what Jay does so beautifully is his skill and ability to bring out the dramatic side of those in front of his lens. By surrounding his subjects with color, fashion and jewels as well as placing them in majestic locations, it is as if his models are absorbing all that is around them and channelling it through body and emotions.

There are many contrasts weaved through Jay's work with Eddy, foremost the model himself. Jay shares that despite his outward appearance, goth clothes and protective and decorative spikes and chains, Eddy is one of the sweetest, most sincere and kind hearted people Jay has ever known, much less worked with. Jay shares that these contrasts are one of the reasons Eddy is such a great person, not just to work with, but to know.

Although the images within this piece are from several different locations, some of my favorites are from an old church. Churches are also steeped in contrast, having the the ability to provide both comfort and pain. Their structures hold such history, the setting for ceremonies filled with such glorious celebration as well as inconsolable sadness and grief. I love the creative and visual contrast that Jay creating with his decision to shoot the goth wearing Eddy, in the church and on the alter.

'The first time he flew in to Indianapolis to shoot with me we had a lot of plans for the images we would be taking. Most notable were the nudes we shot in an old broken down church building that I rented for half a day. Since then that building has been completely rehabbed and is back in pristine condition. It's beautiful of course but I miss the idiosyncratic beauty of the urban decay.'

'We even shot nudes in the old sanctuary which is interesting because most of the altar furniture was intact. Some would say that series is sacrilegious and maybe they're right. But I love the art we created that day and stand behind it 100%.'

Although maybe not as divine as the old church, the second time Jay shot Eddy, he again place him in an old decaying building, a location that became one of Jay's favorite locations to shoot in. Sadly, the building has now changed ownerships so Jay no longer has access, but says he made full use of it on the day he spent there with Eddy.

There was a third shoot, but Jay sadly lost all of those images due to a failed hard drive debacle a few years ago. Jay has saved that hard rive though in the hopes that one day he might be able to have the data recovered. One of Jay's goals for this year is get back in touch with Eddy and again find an amazing location to shoot him in. 'Maybe one day I'll even have additional images of the puppy dog punk to share. Fingers crossed!'

'I recently developed some rolls of mystery film and one of them was a roll of 120 film that I'd entirely forgotten about having shot on that second shoot. We were up on the roof of that building and the film images turned out so beautifully. That was in 2009 so it only took me 6 years to develop the film. Not bad right?'

Oh là là...

For those of you able to catch Big Brother Canada, last week provided a few oh là là moments as two of the shows hottest houseguests were sentenced to 24 hours of hard labour, cleaning the house in their French maid outfits. I felt a bit bad for the guys, 24 hours heals and that outfit moved the punishment beyond the category of fun, but both guys rolled with it pretty well.

Zach had better watch his back (I am keeping an eye on his backside). Thanks mostly to Sarah, the hunks of Big Brother Canada are pretty much extinct. This week we lost Bobby and the guy I personally wanted to win, Kevin. I don't know who I am rooting for now, most viewers seem to like Sarah, but she is at the bottom of my list. Sarah's going up this week, but my gut tells me the producers aren't going to let their #1 trouble maker go just yet...

Mark Pellegrino: Returned

$

'If you’re an avid couch potato for the last two decades or even the last two years, you might be racking your inner DVR brain for the answer to the question, “I know that guy from somewhere, but what the hell is his name?” My guess is that you are a fan of this dark, sometimes sadistic, and quirky character who is so effortlessly dynamic in the near 100 television and film roles he’s played and that you may not even realize how many times you've been intrigued by his performance, not to mention his timeless face.'

It was his performance, and that face, that had me recently googling to find out who is that? Increasingly frustrated with the direction of Bates Motel, I found myself more and more intrigued with the ads for the show coming after it, The Returned. I was a little skittish about giving it a shot, ABC's Resurrection had a similar premise, but after the pilot, the show never leaved up to the haunting feeling it's promos promised. I started The Returned last week, and three episodes in, I am hooked.

The Returned (2015)

That face of Jack Winship belongs to actor Mark Pellegrino. With the longer hair and facial scruff, for a brief second I thought it was Marc Blucas, but after googling was intrigued to find out it was an actor I have seen so many times, yet never really knew to much about. Mark Pellergino began his career in 1987 with a guest shot on L.A. LAW and has been apart of many television shows and movies we have all watched since. I guess the fact his name is not familiar may be frustrating to him, but it speaks to his talent and skill as an actor to inhabit so many roles and different characters.

Since his L.A. Law Stint, Pellegrino has been a regular on Supernatural, LOST, Being Human, The Tomorrow People, Revolution, The Closer, NYPD Blue and Dexter. The Los Angeles born actor has also been a guest on countless other TV shows and movies. Pellegrino has a penchant for playing the ass hole and bad guy but always finds away to give another perspective. 'The fun part about being the bad guy' is you get to explore parts of yourself that you could never do in real life. You could be that full-on narcissist in a sense without concern necessarily for the consequences of the actions, and [you] experience no consequences of your actions and that’s very liberating I think when you’re working. You can kind of go almost anywhere.'EW

Free Like A Bee: Zach Clemens by NICKET

'This was a fun shoot, fa sho!'

When I saw an image of model Zach Clemens the other day, I didn't know at first it was Zach. The image, by California based photographer NICKET, was one of the nudes of Zach standing on the rocks with the waves crashing in around and behind him. I loved everything about the image, the model, the feel and the incredible beach backdrop and surroundings that Nicholas (NICKET) pulled in.

I referenced that I didn't initially know it was Zach because I really should have. I did a couple of posts last year featuring the Sunnyvale model's work with studioAtruong. (Spark) I loved Zach's look, his energy and attitude and especially his sense of play. I had been on the look out for more of Zach's work so that I could again feature his imagery. Although his incredible grin, and those sparkling green eyes remain beautifully intact, Zach's cool new hairstyle, depending on angle, both longer and shorter than before, and his lack facial scruff, gave him an entirely new, and incredibly sexy, new look!

I have also featured Nicholas's work before, and although a name change briefly stumped me, I recognized the sun drenched California feel from his previous images with models Raditty and Andrew Carter. Nicholas and Zach make perfect collaborators as their style, and attitude toward their work, seems perfectly in sync.

As a teacher of photography, Nicholas knows the importance of enjoying the pursuit of your passion. His goal on any photo shoot is to both create beautiful portraits that captures of his subjects, but as well, to have a good time. This shoot definitely feels like it was fun, so much in fact, with it's easy going feel and California beach location, I had had to work hard to get The Beach Boys song Fun Fun Fun out of my head as I typed and pieced the story together.

Nicholas shares that working with Zach was a great experience, not only because of his incredible look but also his great attitude that made the shoot, and entire experience, so entertaining. 'Although relatively new to modeling, Zach needed very little direction during the shoot and has a good intuition of what works and what looks good.' Nicholas enjoys making his work a creative collaboration with input from the model and with this shoot, Zach had lots of idea's and was great at making sure they didn't miss any good shooting spots on the beach.

'Zach has a great spirit of adventure and is willing to expand his horizons, I look forward to working with Zach again and also seeing how he grows as a model and what he achieves.'

Zach's modeling goals are clear, cast his image out there, like a fisherman using bait, and see what comes back in. Make some money, have some fun and hopefully come up with not just artistic, but clever images that allow him to learn, experiment and take some risks. If that hook fails to catch the big one, and it's hard to imagine it won't get a few bites... If it doesn't work out, he'll fall back on his other talents and if he has to, says he'll live off the land. Zach's attitude is both realistic and refreshing and geared towards success, no matter how rough the waters may get.

'Nick was an awesome photographer. He was relaxed and silly, which allowed me to let loose, bringing about natural looks. I'm typically pretty tense during shoots since I try so hard to pose, but the combination of a great beach atmosphere and a rad photographer allowed me to be me, free like a bee!'
Zach Clemens

Kudos to The Middle

Kudos to ABC for giving the relatively low rated, but well written, and brilliantly acted, The Middle a seventh season. I know not everyone loves the show, but to me, it is the best sit-com currently gracing network TV. I look forward to another season of The Hecks (Including hopefully Axel, if Charlie McDermott has to juggle his role on Super Clyde) as well as the hilarious Brad, for another school year, Halloween and Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentines Day with one of my favorite television families. The Middle may not be joke upon joke, but there is heart and hilarity that I relate to.
