Alex Corso: A Man For All Seasons

Winter 2015

Even though he has been doing more work behind the camera, Alex continued model for New Manhattan Studios throughout much of last year. Here are the results of four of Alex's most recent shoots with Wes.  Four different shoots, marking each of the year's magnificent four seasons.

'I was shooting a bit less during the second half of 2015 as my work is starting to drift away from is roots doing headshots and portfolio work of and for models. I am pushing my style more toward physique art, spending more and more time polishing my editing skills and as much time on the computer as in the studio. (You’ll see some examples of this type of stylized work in the photos taken by Alex of Ricardo.) Alex is becoming more and more skilled with the camera and his eye for composition is most promising.'

Spring 2015

'Alex has taken some of the studio’s iconic photos in 2015. He is not yet doing any of the editing work, however, and because of that I am not making any efforts to distinguish his work from my work. It’s all “New Manhattan Studios.” (Similarly, some of the images I’ve published of Bond Brown this year were taken by Bill Weyeneth, our editor and associate on the West Coast.) None of us are given separate credits on the studio’s website, but I’m pleased to have you singling out Alex’s work on Favorite Hunks.'

~Iggy~

From the many smiles, Iggy certainly seemed to enjoy his time working with Wes and Alex. Iggy is one of those models who looks equally hot with, or without clothes and loved the many looks captured.

'Iggy already had a good-looking body when he shot with us, but has spent a great deal of time in the gym since first shoot. He is now apparently so impressive he’s ready to fly back to NY for another photo session. Find more HERE:'

~Norm~

Some of my favorite shots from Alex are of Norm. In addition to the Made in New Jersey shots I posted in the piece above, I love the shots Alex captured below.

'Norm works out at Alex’s neighborhood gym in New Jersey. They are casual friends and, knowing that Alex was a model, last year Norm approached him about doing a photo session to document the progress he was making in the gym. When Alex told me of the great results the kid was getting from his workouts, I agreed to do a TFP session for/with him.'

'I was blown away by the 18-year-old’s impressive physique. Indeed, not only is his build the best I’ve seen on anyone that young, he has one of the best-defined bodies of anyone I’ve shot. It was a pleasure working with him.'

~Ricardo~

Alex's 'little' brother Ricardo first stepped into the studio with his brothers support back in 2014. (Family Business) Ricardo recently headed back to New Manhattan Studios, this time shot by both Wes, and his older brother Alex.

'The November session with Ricardo was the model’s first in almost a year and had been pushed back and pushed back at Ricardo’s insistence as he continued to work out in the gym. . .working on his back, legs and arms. It paid off. the 23-year-old has never looked better. And some of the best shots from the session were taken by Alex of his kid brother! I hope to have Ricardo’s new gallery up in early 2016. One of the images made the 2016 calendar.'

'Now that I have the opportunity to be the person who shoots, it’s amazing! Suddenly I understand the importance of details (be they big or small). But it doesn’t stop there either, I have to think about what I’m trying to convey with a picture... its meaning for lack of a better word. I have a great time shooting whenever the opportunity is given to me. I try to be like a sponge, to learn as much as I can so that I will have better results in the future.'

A Stylish Pair: Bond by Alex from New Manhattan Studios

In addition to Alex, most of you know one of my favorite models from New Manhattan Studios is Bond Brown. Wes and Alex's images of Bond have an important part of FH the last couple of years, especially around the holidays. Many of you might remember, that it was Alex, acting as a PA on Bond's Orange and Black shoot, that ended up producing many of the final images I used, after Wes's camera struggles.

In addition to loving Bond's work as a model, I have always enjoyed the images of he and Alex that Wes has shared in each of the pieces that we have done. In addition to forming a great working relationship, Bond and Alex have become friends, enjoying each others company, something that comes through clearly in the images that Wes has captured of them together.

Catch Of The Day!

The following shots are some new 'behind the scenes' shots that Wes captured during Bond's last session in the studio. Wes shares this series has to be fully edited, but you can look forward to more from this series in the future on New Manhattan Studios. Included at the bottom are some of the final images, photographed by Alex, during the shoot.

'Shooting Bond was interesting. I have this sexy nude man in front of me, but at the same time it's Bond. A friend, a the person I sit down at a bar and have drinks with. When I shoot a person I have some background with, I tend to be more conservative, making the pictures more about the facial expressions than the body. The face should capture the viewer’s attention, making them more interested in the person, not just of "a hot nude guy." On that that note, when it comes to posing, Bond's facial expressions are great. He can be shy, aggressive, flirtatious or just simply hot.'

Norm

One of the reasons I am so fascinated with behind the scenes images is process. I love to hear the stories of how shoots come together, and all that goes into creating the final images we all see and enjoy. I also think process images bring an added layer to my enjoyment of images, and a visual appreciation of the artist behind the lens.

Victor

With the countless images of the male form posted all over the internet, it is easy to forgot that behind each one of them was an artist with a concept. Images are often all about the model, and more specifically, the models body and body parts. Behind the scenes and out-takes images remind viewers there is a man inside that body, a model and photographer who worked together to create the image the viewer is seeing and enjoying.

Luca

There is also elements of behind the scenes images which help with fantasy fulfilment. We all have had thoughts and dreams of what a nude photo shoot must be like. The reality though is both less, and more than most of us actually imagine. Over the last eight years, I have interviewed many models who have taken off their clothes for a shoot, and the many photographers behind the camera capturing them.

Matteo

Although I hear stories of nude photo shoots being interrupted by spectators and the odd unplanned erection most of the stories are about how both model and photographer complete their job. The model's focus on fitness and ensuring their bodies are ready for their close-ups. A photographers struggle with locations, scheduling and lighting complications.

Adonis

There is admittedly though another reason I am so drawn to behind the scenes images. There is voyeuristic feel both hearing, and seeing how a shoot comes together that is both erotic and grounding at the same time. Seeing Alex spritz a naked model with a spray water bottle may be sexy, but it is also an important part of how images are created. I also think Alex Corso's journey, and experiences both in front of, and behind the camera, are ones that many of us have dreamt of being a part of.

Ricardo

For many years I thought photography was going to be my career. I have written many times about shooting friends, pets and weddings, something most who start out in the field find themselves shooting at the beginning. Somewhere though, between year one and year two of University, I went for the safe choice choosing a career path that although not as creative, would ensure I was always able to pay the bills. I think this is one of the reasons I am so grateful to Wes and Alex, and all of the other photographers, who welcome myself, and readers of FH, to join them visually on their shoots. It not only makes us feel like a small part of the process, for me, it has had me rethinking my future career plans. If I ever do step behind the camera again, you all will be the first to see the results.

Branding Norm: Made In New Jersey

I think these behind the scenes shots of Alex prepping Norm, and his beautiful backside, are a great example of how a look, this time a temporary tattoo, all come together to create the final image.

12 Days: Brandon Routh in The 9 Lives of Christmas

I know, I know, I said I wasn't going to do any 12 Days this year, but given I already broke that with my Christmas Day posting featuring Jimmy Stewart, What's one more. I was away off and on over Christmas, but when I got back after New Year's, decided it was time to clean off my DVR. I just finished I movie I actually DVR'd last Christmas, but never got around to watching, The 9 Lives of Christmas, featuring the ultra adorable and talented actor Brandon Routh.

I have been a fan of Routh's since his turn as Superman and am glad to see him back on television in a new series in January. Routh to me was the best post Reeve Superman, embodying many of the qualities Christopher Reeve brought to the role. I think the director and script had more to do with poor reception to Superman Returns than Routh who was forced to wear the film's failure, something he certainly did not deserve to wear on his broad beautiful shoulders.

9 Lives of Christmas

Routh didn't work much the year after the 2006 film, but in the last couple of years he has been busy with television guest spots and films, many of which wisely get a shirtless scene or two. I was really starting to enjoy Partners before the network prematurely pulled the plug. Brandon's next role in is Greg Berlanti's action series Legends of Tomorrow. The series, which also stars Victor Garber, Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller premieres early next year.

January Beach Day: Neil by macpics

Sam was born on December 21st, yet his birthday is during the summer this year.
 How could this be?

I remember being stumped the first time I heard that riddle when I was younger. I have to admit though, that the younger time I am referencing wasn't when I was 9 or 10. It was when I was in my twenties as it was when I was in University that I really learned that the seasons here in America, don't run the same way everywhere in the world.

In Australia, summer begins in December and runs until February. Therefore as winter began here on December 21st, summer was well under way as Christmas was approaching. Given we here in the North East of America got our first real blast of cold, snow and windchill this week, I thought it was the perfect time to inject a blast of Australian summer onto FH by heading to an Australian beach with Ian, and the images captured there by Ian from macpics.

Visiting Australia is one of my dream destinations, but there are a few places I need to check off before many plans. Due to the size of the continent, there is not one single seasonal calendar for the entire continent. Instead, there are six climate zones which translate as two main seasonal patterns.

One of the things I love so much about working on FH, is learning so much about the places I get to visually visit. I don't think I really realized until today how cold it gets in the continents snowy mountain regions. Although I think I knew there were places you could go skiing, snow skiing, in Australia, you don't always think of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania being associated with successful ski hills and resorts.

Whether shooting Santa's out on the beach, or seductive models wrapped in red within the studio, Ian always manages to crank up the heat. Neil looks amazing walking along the beach, or through the brush, and in Ian's studio shots. Neil has a great physique and smooth sun tanned body, but it is his large and incredibly beautiful eyes that pull in the viewers focus in so many of Ian's images.

Inspirational certainly fits when thinking of actor and model Nyle DiMarco. The 26 year old not only became only the second male contestant to win America's Top Model, he also became the shows first deaf winner. Since winning the show, Nyle has signed with Wilhelmina Models and most recently had his first magazine spread in NYLON.

Favorite Face of The Day: Michael McPhee

I know many of you have dived into OutTV's Sex & Violence and loved the experience. I know many of you have never heard of the Canadian television show. The Halifax based drama lives up to it's title with tons of sex, and plenty of violence. I am not sure any of us could have imagined a TV series featuring Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis giving blow jobs to a series of young, and always naked, lovers, but believe me... there is.

Sex and Violence is raw, raw in that the violence is organic. Often violence on television is distant, stories just far enough away from our actual lives that we can watch it without feeling we will be ever touched by it. Not on this show. The violence is the type of violence that could happen next door, down the street, or at work. It is harder to separate from, yet at the same time, for me, easier to connect with.

McPhee performing 937 at the Atlantic Fringe Festival

So in addition to that violence, there is the sex. Sex not seen through filters or clever editing. Naked bodies, tons of them, all shapes and sizes. The nakedness is so real, not all of it is sexy, which given the two words in the shows title, is the show's point. Unlike many television shows, even the ones on cable, the penis is not a body part to hide, nor is it one that requires any more attention than any other. The men who are naked on Sex & Violence all have penis's and all of them are shown. They are not shown in close up, they are not shown to grab your attention, they are shown...because men have them.

Cloudburst

One of my favorite characters on Sex & Violence is Constable Doug Downey played by Michael McPhee. Michael is a talented actor and and although the show clearly hired for talent over the usual TV show good look, Michael is an incredibly hot man, starting with sexy nose and beautiful face.

Sex & Violence

Although like pretty much all of the cast, Michael has his fair share of nude scenes, especially in the police stations locker room, I think he was at his hottest in the scene below. Even lesbian Brenda Shaw (Kerry Fox) has difficulty resisting Constable Doug Downey working on his house without his shirt.

Boundless Energy: Rock Carter by Keith Ingram Photo

'After a few warm-up shots, I quickly gave up on trying to pose him, and just gave into the spontaneity of the moment. He’s a lovable goofball, and I don’t think he’ll mind me saying so!'

This feature marks the return of two of my favorites. I first introduced FH readers to model Rock Carter in 2014. (Bounding With Energy) When I first saw Rock's work with MQO Photo Studio, I knew instantly I wanted to feature their work together. There was something so beautifully unique, and incredibly sexy about Rock that I instantly loved. The shoot had an intensely erotic, sexy and sophisticated feel and I have been looking for an opportunity to feature more of Rock's work.

2014 was also the last time I featured the work of San Francisco photographer Keith Ingram. Keith's artistry and creativity is at the core of why I am so attracted to his work and his experience in film making is something I can see in so many of his images. WI went back into Keith's portfolio last fall looking to get in touch about another piece for FH and was thrilled when I saw that he had worked with Rock.

Coincidently, Keith shares that he had sent a friend request to Rock on Model Mayhem just a few days before his debut on FH. Keith was also impressed with Rock's featured images and loved the energy and sense of movement presented in his work. Energy seems to be a them in Rock's work and a quality sometimes overlooked. There are some great looking models who fall flat on camera due to the lack of energy expressed. Rock's energy is contagious, and can be felt by viewers of his work.

After that friend request, Keith immediately followed up with a request to see if would be interested in shooting. After Rock said yes, plans were made to get together to shoot. 'I told him that I would happily come up to Portland Oregon to shoot with him. It turned out that he lived about an hour outside of Portland, so we both had to pick the most convenient weekend to travel. Mind you - this was in the middle of winter, so we had to take weather conditions into consideration.'

After a few weeks, and a lot of texts back and forth, Keith and Rock settled on a date and made plans to meet up. Unfortunately, shortly before their shoot, Rock took a spill on his motorcycle and banged up his knee. Rock was still able to walk, so they struck a plan to work with, and around Rock's bandaged knee. It ended up being a cold rainy day, so they remained inside to shoot and Keith says his large hotel room served them well as a studio with all the needed amenities. They are planning another shoot, this time outdoors in either Oregon or California. If it all ends up panning out, Keith promises to share the results!

'Besides having a fun and easy-going personality, Rock had a boundless energy and was a natural in front of the lens. I found the experience liberating and creatively rewarding. We were both breaking out of our comfort zones (this was only his second nude shoot) and having a great time improvising. The right music, a little wine, and his travel companion off to the side (making him laugh) made the session a fun little party. We captured some visually striking images that we’re both really proud of.'

Rock's personality bursts through each image and both he and Keith did an incredible job dealing with, and incorporating in, Rock's knee injury. Visually striking is the perfect turn of phrase. Keith's background in film making is evident in so many shots. There are so many stories within the shoot, and some look almost like promotional posters for a film. Rock's has an incredible body, but it is his face and that grin that help energize his work in front of the camera.

'Working with Kieth is always exciting. Our shoot in PDX (Portland, OR) was awesome, shot in a vintage hotel, that was full of interesting backdrops. There was this mirror that was perfect for some great angles, that I got to play with. Keith himself is super accommodating, and comes up with great ideas. Previous to our shoot, I’d injured my knee in a motorcycle crash, and had to keep it bandaged as it healed. Instead of cancelling the shoot or being disappointed he worked it into our shots, and made a kind of theme even. It was great, and I can’t wait to shoot with him again.'

Closer: Cade by JDT Photography

'I live in Georgia, so finding a place to get naked usually isn't too big of a problem...'

The first time FH joined JDT Photography, as he shot series of beautifully naked Georgia men, was back in the spring of 2014. (The Spring Suspension) The passion for photography was already firmly embedded in the 24 year old photographer and JDT's Jesse shared that he continues to fall in love with shooting each and every day.

Cut to October of last fall, almost two years, and two FH pieces later. We're again by a body of water, still beautifully tranquil and peaceful. The only ripples come from Jesse's imagery, which had gone through some small, but striking transitions since our last trip to the lake. What first attracted me to Jesse's work was the magnificent way he incorporated and captured the beauty and lines of the male form with the surroundings all around them.

Jesse's work was always sensually erotic, but in the October piece, (Scott by JDT Photography) his work had taken on an additional level of intensity and intimacy. Jesse's skill and creativity has not altered, it was seductively there from beginning. Jesse's images have elegance and grace that makes his work all his own. The difference, in part is proximity.

It is not that Jesse's earlier work was more distant, it was more about point of view. At most concerts, or at the ballet, the visuals are extraordinary no matter where you're seated. Over time, Jesse has taken us from the balcony, to box seats to now, the view down in the front row. What's on stage may be the same, but being closer, the view is more intimate and intense.

The view is beautifully up close and personal in Jesse's shots of Cade. When looking up the meaning for the name Cade, the adjectives that came up were; solid and hard-working, industrious, gentle and round. Cade's incredible body is certainly solid, and he has a bountiful and perfectly round rear end. Cade seems a bit like a gentle giant, silent and strong with engaging and beautifully kind eyes. After enjoying Jesse's images of Cade, I can't wait to see who is going to slide into the water next.

Kevin Bernhardt & the Rare Rear Frontal

$

In most 1990's straight to VHS action movies, most of the actors, struggling to maintain their careers did partial nudity. Most of the actress's bare their breasts, and many of the actors drop trou for a butt shot. A few actors and actress's even agree to frontals, but most, from a distance, and usually lit very darkly. There is another variation to the nude scene, extremely rare, so rare that I can only think of one or two other examples. That view, the male rear frontal...

In 1993's Treacherous, the oh so beautiful Kevin Bernhardt, has the usual, run of the mill prerequisite sex scene. Rolling around in bed, shown naked from the side, with just a hint of ass, the usual modus operandi for actors not wanting to show too much. But this scene took a fun turn. When Kevin was getting out of bed after the deed was done, we get a quick glimpse of the full package, from the rear.

I am not sure if Kevin has exceptionally big genitalia, or if he just didn't have time to properly adjust before standing up. Regardless, we get more than just a hint of ball, but a partial Monty from the flip side. A rare cinematic find... :) I won't even get started on that hair....
