Worth A Peek: Tom Sandoval

I have written a few times that I have never seen an entire episode of any of the Real Housewives shows. It is not that I am a reality snob, I love many reality shows, but I was always sort of turned off by the Andy Cohn franchise for a variety of different reasons. Don't get me wrong, I have seen many clips, and know full well if I were to watch I would most likely get hooked and start a marathon of them all.

Last week however, I did take my first peek at the spin-off show Vanderpump Rules. I didn't watch for any storyline reasons or because I was bored and looking for a new show to watch. I watched because of a thread on DC showcasing the mighty fine backside of VR's Tom Sandavol.

It was fairly easy to jump in without much info. In the first episode I watched, Tom, along with Jax and the show's other Tom were getting ready to head back from a trip to Vegas. The Tom's went out and both 'supposedly' got tattoo's on their butts. The rest of the hour seemed one hot scene after another of them showing their butts to whomever wanted a peek at their tats.

Sandoval didn't seem to have any issue showing his beautiful backside to his girlfriend of course, but also Jax, (who really seemed to enjoy the view) his buddies, his boss and even his mother. That doesn't include everyone who was watching. Sandoval is such a great looking man. In addition to his beautiful backside, he also has amazing bone structure and a face that belongs in front of a camera.

I may not be watching every episode of Vanderpump Rules, but for now, as long Tom continues to give us frequent glimpses, of his backside, and his smile, it has been added to the DVR list.

Dream Catcher: Jesse by YogaBear Studio

'To anyone reading this, work with David, you'll thank yourself!'

Back in the fall, I sent David from YogaBear Studio a short list of some of my favorite images from his recent shoots. Many of them, featured his work San Diego's Jesse Smith. I often use, and maybe overuse, the word 'spiritual' when Describing David's work, maybe because it is core to why I am continually drawn to his imagery.

So many artists masterfully capture the male form. Many are able to draw out pieces of a model's personality, some are able to see beyond the surface, capturing pieces of a model's essence, they may not even be intending to unveil. David's work consistently captures not just form, not just bodies and poses but the soul within and the spirit which surrounds them. This is not just David's goal, it is his mission.

Although capturing hot bodies is part of what David does, David's interpretation of hot is powerfully without limits. David believes that every physical human form in front of his lens is erotically tempting and worthy of celebration. Age and size is simply irrelevant. Although many of us have been pressured to suppress it, all of our bodies and all of our souls possess an erotic component, and it is that, which draws David's focus.

With Jesse, David certainly had a great head start. Jesse is obviously incredibly lean and fit. What attracted me Jesse's images however, was more than just his hot body and his man bun, which I have to admit, I find incredibly sexy. The aura surrounding Jesse is surrounded by soul and spirit, stemming from his beautiful brown eyes and facial expressions and the art that adorns is skin. The tattoo on Jesse's lower stomach reads, Mojo Rising. 'Many of my tattoos are homages to music, and that is my homage to classic rock. It seemed like the most fitting location for that era of music. The prominence of of Jesse's back tattoo connects to the level of commitment he invests into focusing on the positive, and in the striving for, and capturing of his dreams.

Those dreams are currently focused in directions other than modeling, and more toward other projects and passions. 'I am now the CEO of an existence optimization consulting firm, an entrepreneur of a few new companies, and the pioneer of the next phase in physics, beyond quantum.' Jesse says however that he cherishes the times spent modeling and the artists who have captured him from the other side of the lens.

'In my 4 years of experience as an active model, I have been blessed with a few select photographers that I would happily shoot with long after my modeling career has ended. David is one of those photographers. A consummate professional and a joy to work with, every shoot with David is time well spent. He creates a very welcoming and comfortable environment and always delivers quality images. Of the thousands of frames captured by photographers of me I have chosen David's work to showcase in my portfolio more than any others. He has a warmth about him, he feels like a old friend.'

David and Jesse connected through Model Mayhem and have done two sessions together. In the second session, Jesse was also shot with his partner Rachel and although the focus of FH is usually the male form, I so loved their images together that I had to add a few. Rachel is absolutely stunning, with a strong beautiful face and a killer body. Their interactions, especially their facial expressions and the way Jesse look up at Rachel in the last image below is so intensely passionate and intimate, it shows yet another side of his soul and his spirit.

'Jesse has an exuberant energy that lights up the photos. This was magnified even more in my recent session with him and his partner Rachel. They’re both so vibrant and bring so much to each session.'

First Timer: Mark Patton in Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

As part of Halloween week last fall, I devoted a day to the sequel to Nightmare on Elm Street: Freddy's Revenge. While researching images and info for that piece, I was fascinated to read some stories surrounding the making of the movie and the lasting impact it had on the film's lead, actor Mark Patton.

I loved Mark in the film, not because his performance was perfect, but because he was portraying a character rarely seen on the big screen, especially in a teen horror flick. There are many examples of tortured teens on television and in movies, but Mark's portrayal of Jesse was both ahead of it's time, and so purposely layered, it wasn't until long after the film's release that people appreciated what a beautifully unique film Freddy's Revenge actually was.

I was surprised recently to catch Mark in his first role in 1982's Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. I had heard of the movie before, mostly because it was Cher's first major acting role, but wasn't until a recent airing on TCM, that I DVR'd and watched. What an incredible film. Like Freddy's Revenge, the movie is flawed for sure, but story and emotions were deep, and maybe even current given the cultural transitions of the past couple of years.

Cher was great, but Sandy Dennis put in the films most powerfully interesting performance. Karen Black and a young and fun Kathy Bates were also solid in their roles. I also loved seeing actress Sudie Bond, who I had not seen in anything other than her memorable role in Silkwood, also made with Cher the following year. Mark Patton's Joe, although only seen in flashbacks, was heartbreaking and core to the unfolding of the story. In just a few small scenes, many just hovering in the background, Mark set a beautiful tone, laying the groundwork, while not revealing where the story, and the character would end up.

I had to do some Goggling and was interested in reading the movie was first a play written by Ed Graczyk, with the films cast, complete and intact from it's short Broadway run. How great to see director Robert Altman, keep the entire cast together, not bringing in any huge stars to replace the talented stage actors in their roles. Altman shares he considered bringing in another actress, but saw quickly the rhythm was off when the any one of of the original actors wasn't in place.

I won't share the movie's secrets, and maybe for many, they weren't that well hidden. But for me, even when I knew, I wasn't sure I knew or whether the audience were being taken somewhere, only to be then taken somewhere else. It was nice to Patton outside of the Nightmare dome that has blanketed so much of his career, especially in a role so worthy of his talent, and his presence.

Never Satisfied: Tyler by MaleVisionS

'I am always looking to find that one model that seems to come along once every couple of years that the camera just loves. The one that when you turn on the modeling lights he's suddenly "on" and you start popping those strobes and the session becomes a dance of creativity as the model instinctively knows what you want and where the first shot you take is incredible and everyone after that is even better!'

They say one of the tricks to a successful career, and a rewarding life, is to always consider yourself a learner. We have all encountered people in our lives, maybe especially at our jobs, who think they know everything they need to know about their vocation. The truth is that things are always changing, growing and progressing, and if you don't position yourself as a student to the changes, you inevitably get left back.

Arizona photographer Dan Nelson shares that he is never satisfied. I used to think that satisfaction was a worthy goal, but the older I get, the more I see that creativity suffers when an artist is satisfied. The consequence of Dan's dissatisfaction is a desire to keep working, keep learning and keep shooting until he gets it right. Given, these shots of Tyler were taken along that journey, I am hoping it is awhile before Dan reaches his goal.

Dan's journey also includes continually searching for that one in a million model to have in front of his lens. It is the nature of photography to have many subjects, often shooting them beautifully. It is rare however, to have a subject that truly inspires, pulling everything together for creative and rhythmic flow.

Visually, Tyler is one of many models in Dan's portfolio that Dan seems to have connected with creatively. I think the skill of a great photographer however, is making the viewer think that every subject is that one in a million. Tyler is incredibly beautiful, with a classic and strong face and a stunning physique. I love how Dan incorporated furniture within the shoot, something he also did in the first piece I did featuring his work last year with Teak. (A Piece of Art) Tyler form and presence would have been strong on their own, but there is an added level of sensuality by putting bare skin on leather.

BJ & Park: Bringing A Little Sexual Energy Into Your Home!

'I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor–though, for me, hanging around nude all day doesn't feel quite so laborious.'

You all know how much I love a story, and when I contacted artist BJ Nash about his images of model Park Allyn, an interesting one certainly followed. Artist and model first connected through Model Mayhem in early 2014. In this particular case, though one of them was definitely supposed to get naked, it wasn't to have his picture taken. Drawing is BJ's artistic focus, and Park was soon not only a frequent, but a favorite inspiration for his artwork.  Through their work together, BJ and Park became business partners of sorts, starting a venture, BJ & Park, which promotes not only BJ's drawing's, but also plates, pillows, wall art and other decorative accessories that feature Park, and the other models from BJ & Park.

The company's tag line is 'Invite a little sexual energy into your home.' and it is easy to see why Park inspires so many of BJ's creative impulses. When I first saw BJ's photographs of Park, I was certainly inspired to spend more time with them, and reach out to BJ about his work. Park is incredibly sexy with a beautifully sensuous body, and body parts, all of which deserve to be memorialized. Park also has a unique ability to weave together qualities of both a statuesque Greek God, and an Everyman. Visually striking, yet at the same time, both relatable and accessible.

A Partnership is formed:

BJ:
'After many years of people telling me I should exhibit and sell my drawings, I decided it was time to follow their advice. So Park and I started BJ&Park to offer the drawings as wall art and as products that present the drawings in fresh ways.'

Park:
'When I first met artist BJ Nash he had been drawing for years in cooperation with dozens of models like myself. During our first couple sessions together, I was probably chattier than was best for his concentration, but the resulting drawings turned out very well, and we soon established a regular meeting schedule. From this, a friendship began, which has ultimately led to this artist-model collaboration, a unique pairing of nude male art and home decor, all of which is created and assembled in the U.S.'

The Beginnings:

BJ
'I have worked as a fashion illustrator and drawn both men and women in life drawing groups. Looking back, I’ve probably drawn women more than men. Now, I am interested in creating male figurative art, perhaps because the male form was openly expressed in the great eras of classical art, which I love.'

Park
'Before I met BJ, I would occasionally respond to local Craigslist ads posted by artists seeking models. I liked the easy cash, but I never intended to make modelling a career. I still don't. Anyhow, it has led to my work with BJ&Park, which is far more interesting to me than simply modelling.'

Process:

Park
'It's most exciting when you trust the artist to produce something great. I have that trust with BJ. But I've modelled for artists whose work didn't really interest me. That's when standing still and taking direction becomes as dull as it sounds.'

BJ
'The difficult thing for me is finding a good pose, not drawing individual parts of the body. But if I had to select, I would say the most difficult parts are the hands. They are both the hardest to draw and the most important aspect of a good drawing made from life. Sometimes when I am drawing a model’s hand, I have only one finger remaining to complete. The model moves his hand without thinking. Although most people would not notice, I am unhappy with the drawing because one finger is out of place. So hands are the most challenging. My favourite part to draw is the lips. I love lips so much I have a telephone shaped like a pair of lips.'

Observer & Observee

BJ
'Drawing a live model has an energy that drawing from a photograph can never produce. The marks on the drawing are better when the drawing is from life. Drawing a live model involves two people as opposed to one, it is a collaboration between artist and model. The drawing made from life is totally original. All the great artists and illustrators of the past drew from live models so for me, following their process is only natural.'

Park
'Being relatively uninhibited helps a lot. I think nothing of taking off all my clothes and allowing someone to pay very close attention to my body for a few hours, but I have to remind myself that the same situation would make most people extremely uncomfortable. I'm generally an insecure person, but for whatever reason, that trait doesn't manifest itself when I pose nude. I feel that same certainty during sex. When I'm in a situation that calls for little or no clothing, that obnoxious self-consciousness lessens. I think, “Well, I'm naked. Nothing left to hide.” It's freeing.'

Studio Sensations

BJ
'To make a good drawing, I must focus. But for some of the more exhibitionistic models, the drawing process is inherently intimate, and they occasionally get an erection. One thing I am very grateful for is that, rather than sexual relationships, drawing has led to some very close friendships that would never have happened otherwise.'

Park
'Sure, it can be a bit of turn on. I get a charge out of being naked around people. This was especially true when I first started modelling nude, but I'd say the sensation has diminished somewhat now that I have more experience.'

Favorite Drawing:

Park
'There's one that shows me in only a hoodie. It's one of the earliest drawings BJ did of me, and I know he doesn't think much of it, mainly because, in those early sessions, he hadn't captured my face as accurately as he would in the weeks to follow. But because I'm not the artist, I can appreciate seeing someone else’s version of my own face. I could almost mistake the figure in that drawing for someone else, but a split-second later I realize it's me. That very brief disconnect is exciting.'

Favorite Story:

BJ
'When a model and I were collecting his cum for the purpose of making pillow designs, he shot beyond the mylar we had laid down for him to cum onto. When this happened, I brought a measuring tape and it was 7 feet 9 inches (236.22 CM) from where he stood. We both laughed with amazement. I learned that making cum pillows is not as easy as it may seem!'

There are not too many actors who have transformed into two very different, acting and looking, characters on prime time television. From 2001-2007, actor Steve Howey played the sweet, but dim, Van on the WB's Reba. Since 2011, Howey has been playing the not as sweet, but often naked, on Showtime's Shameless.

This week, Howey teased his recent Shameless leopard skin thong scene, on his Instagram. Check out more of the many sides of Howey on his Instagram HERE:

MStyles was one of a trio of photographers whose work I was introduced to when putting together a feature back in 2011. (the two others, Gordon Nebeker and Richard Rothstein) The focus of the story was a dancing musician, who later went on to become a spiritual guru of sorts, who decided he wanted to spread more than just his ass across the world of the web. Although I was sad to lose the piece, I am forever grateful for the introduction to three such diverse and extraordinary artist.

The work of New York's MStyles always packs not just an erotic punch, but an emotionally visual one as well. I especially love the artists Apartment Project, which takes an intimate look into the lives, and homes of the men he is shooting. For some reason, winter seems to consistently draw me back to MStyles work. There is a melancholy that often comes over me on a cold January day that connects so beautifully to the images. No better time than, to look back at MStyles work on FH.

Naked Theology: DirtRoad by Noplacia Photography

'Adam answered, I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked: so I hid. And the Lord said Who told you that you were naked?'

It was back in 2013 that I first discovered the work of DirtRoad, and have been closely following model Warren Russell's work every since. One of the things I love best about Warren's work is how beautifully welcoming he is of being naked. Some male models are comfortable being nude, and enjoy the financial benefits of posing naked for photographers, artists or a classroom full of aspiring artists. Some accept that being naked is a part of the job and choose to grin, or grimace, and then bare it.

With Warren, the baring seems to come first, then followed by the grin. If you have been following my features of Warren's imagery, being naked isn't simply a part of his modeling and photography, it is a core part of how he lives and see's the world. Since last featuring Warren's imagery last winter, he has added quite a few new images to his tumblr, along with his thoughts on nudity, the bible and shame.

I have written many times before, that a model's comfortability with being naked often has an affect on the way I view an image. Although a model's nervousness can be captured in a sexy and erotic way, for me, only if that is the intent of the artist and photographer. I have seen too many images that the photographer is pushing as 'hot' where the model looks absolutely miserable. Just because someone is good looking and naked, doesn't always necessitate the images will be sexy, nor will be enjoyable to the viewer.

Warren's positive attitude and exhibitionism create an engaging and open feeling, allowing the viewer to enjoy his work, his body, without guilt or shame. This really is in many ways, the essence and the point of art which features the human body. Taking away the layers should be freeing, not limiting, and there are beautifully few limits in Warren's work.

Warren's positive energy was certainly something both noticed and appreciated by photographer Gary Larson from Noplacia Photography. 'Warren has a beaming smile. He radiates positivity, is patient with the photo shoot process, and is always very interesting in conversation.' I have been lucky to have been able to feature several of Gary's shoots with Warren, including some which helped celebrate last summer as well as this past Halloween.

Sadly, this is Gary's last call shoot with Warren, at least for the time being. The images showcased here are from their final shoot together last Autumn, prior to Gary moving a couple of States away from Washington State where he had been living. This time, the axe was left out of the shots, and Gary's goal was to focus on Warren engaging with the camera, creating a more intimate connection between Warren and those on the other side of the camera. Hopefully if Gary gets back to Washington we might get another encore, but for now we get to enjoy this set from last October. Thanks to Warren for again supporting my featuring his work and to Gary, who edited and sent the images on once he was settled in his new home.

FaVorite FiVe: George Payne

I am still pretty much a novice when it comes to porn, especially vintage porn. Although I love the male naked form, porn has never really been something I have sought out on any type of regular basis. Almost every time I feature a porn star on FH, it is not until after I have posted (and a blog readers comments about their movies or porn name) that I make the connection.

What I have learned however is that porn stars often make incredible models. Most are totally comfortable, and totally confident in front of the camera and some of my favorite themed shoots have been those involved in the industry. So... although I didn't initially know he was, when I saw the image of a hot naked man straddling a huge giant toothbrush, (last image below) I knew I had to find out more.

The naked man on the toothbrush is porn actor George Payne. Payne entered the porn industry in 1970's with the aptly titled movie The Back Row. Although he originally moved to New York to model, it was porn (both straight and gay) that became his career for the next decade or so. I have not seen any of Payne's films, but the stills from Centurians of Rome have me thinking it would be a good place to start.
