Things Of The Past: Brandon Quigley by Carl Proctor

'I truly admire the greats in Hollywood, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando Etc. When shooting yes I want to bring a modern day sex appeal to the project. However, I want to keep a touch of that old Hollywood glamour to my look. A hair style, the furs, and my clothing styles. I'm very moved by things of the past. I believe it's what helps me be set apart.'

I use sexy a lot on FH, maybe too much sometimes. There are many sexy people in the world, but sexy isn't always memorable. Model Brandon Quigleyis memorable. Brandon is sexy as hell for sure, but his desire to be set apart comes through loud and clear in this series of images from Atlanta's Carl Proctor, one of my favorite artists to feature on the site. When I first saw Brandon's images, I didn't initially know it was Carl behind the lens, but I could could see Carl's skillful, dramatic and erotic touch.

One of the things Carl does so masterfully, is to capture the beautifully distinct qualities of the man in front of his lens. Carl's talent mixes perfectly with Brandon's goal to bring old style Hollywood glamour into his look, and into his images. I can see hints of James Dean, Montgomery Clift and many of Hollywood's most memorable stars in his look and presentation. Brandon also resembles Jude Law from certain angles, as well as a young Con O'Neill. Many of you might not know the English actor's work, but when I was a teenager, I saw Con in Blood Brothers when the actor was in his twenties, and was reminded of the memorable moment when looking at some of Brandon's shots, especially the first one at the top of this piece. (A couple of shots of Con on The Over-Flow HERE:)

In order to capture glimpse into Brandon's essence, and not just his heavenly form, Brandon shares that he and Carl tossed around idea's weeks before the shoot. For their shoots, Brandon usually brings his own wardrobe, pieces from his own closet that he feels will fit the theme. When coming up with a concept, Carl lets Brandon know what he's looking for, then Brandon searches through his favorite models and designers to come up with just the right look.

'I then send over some samples... And Boom! We are game day ready! Then we bring that look and energy to set. Carl always has a way of making the look all his own in the photographs. Carl is an extremely talented photographer and always gives me some artistic freedom. I love collaborating with him. I love his eye for beauty in the male body. His work is powerful, bold, sexy, and always turns out like a piece of art.'

Brandon says that he's always been a performer, likes fashion and has always loved art. He hadn't really planned on modeling, but after catching the eye of a few well known photographers in his town, and giving it a shot, he was hooked. Regardless of whether it becomes a career, Brandon wants to continue shooting and pushing to see where it may lead. FH readers know, that I am always looking for those behind the scenes details about shooting, and of course, shooting with nothing to cover you but little fur... Brandon graciously welcomed my questions, and my curiosity about his modeling work, as well as where he hope it may take him in the future.

Favorite Experiences Thus Far

'Some of my favorite experiences so far have been shooting with Carl, Cooper Penn, and Carissa Davis. A.) I enjoy a full set experience hair, makeup, stylist it just makes the shoot really fun! Just a bonus. B.) however, my favorite type of photographers are the verbal ones. Give you feed back tell you what they want, what they like, and the vision they had in mind. Give you some direction. Which each one of these photographers have done. Allowed me to express myself, and taught me how to get the best shot possible.'

And A Not So Favorite Experience...

'The worst was when I did a shoot on a dried out lake for an art show. Well, the lake was apparently not so dried up! When we were working on these shots. I started sinking into the ground... At first it was cool, and edgy. we got some really sexy mud shots. But I lost my sexy vibe when I realized I was surrounded by dead animals in the mud patch. Still love the shots, and still shutter at the thought of the dead animals.'

Taking It All Off:

'The implied nudes don't bother me. I actually enjoy them! I'm comfortable in my skin. I thank nudes are beautiful. A well kept naked body is the ultimate natural beauty male or female. I'd love to shoot on the beach or some summer pool shoot. Similar styles done by photographers such as Michael Dar, Wong Sim, and Scott Teitler. Love their Work. I would totally consider full frontal for the right photographers and campaigns. I prefer the mystery and desire of hiding the man goods. Makes the viewer want more.'

Why You Model:

'I love modeling because it's an extension of art. Fashion is also an extension of art. It's just another way to express yourself.'

Future Plans...

'Acting is a huge passion of mine. I started performing as a child. Kept at it through grade school and performed in college. After college I moved to Atlanta. To pursue my dream. I've been in Devious Maids, The Duff, Finding Carter, Selma, Originals, and season 6 of The Vampire Diaries. I'd love to continue. Performing is my addiction. I'm not giving it up any time soon.'

Other Models Who Inspire:

'I'm extremely inspired by models such as Lucky Blue Smith, Garrett Neff, Chad White, Igor Augusto, and Pietro Boselli'

Advice You Would Give New Models:

'I'd tell them to go for it. Don't over think it, feel it! And always trust your gut. Do your research. Models get in sticky situations because they get ahead of themselves. Overall it can be such a rewarding experience when you work with awesome photographers.'

Best Advice You Were Given:

'The best feed back I've ever got, was when Garrett Neff complimented my modeling style. Told me I had a great look. One of the best compliments I've ever got. He is a huge inspiration to me. Needless to say, it meant a lot!'

ModelMayhem Thoughts:

'MM is cool. I found Carl on there! That's a bonus! Lol! Haven't generated much actual business off there.'

Dream Future Photographers to collaborate with:

'I'd love to work with Hayden Su, Michael Stokes, Wong Sim, Michael Dar, Scott Teitler, and Brain Jamie. Just a few ;) their work is absolutely stunning. Very artistic with a fun/sexy/editorial vibe.'

Dream Shoot:

'It's on my bucket list to land a campaign with Balmain or Gucci. To even shoot for them would be an honor.'

Strangest Thought that floated through your head while shooting naked:

'What am I going to eat for dinner? I'm comfortable naked. So I guess I just go on as normal in my head, nude or clothed. Ha'

Those Magic Changes

Aaron Tveit's thighs, in addition to stimulating some magic changes, deserved all the positive attention they got last night, but I am not sure though, that Grease Live deserved all the accolades it received. The staging, directing, choreography and production values were top notch and the closing number outstanding for sure. I was a little disappointed though by some of the casting choices and I am not sure that the actors singing was seen as important as their ability to dance. Aaron Tveit was great, even if the role of Danny didn't really highlight his all he has to offer. Except for Tveit I am not sure many of the cast members could pull of their roles on an actual Broadway stage, which to me... is as important when casting a musical, even one staged for television. Julianne Hough was good, but I am not convinced her songs were actually sung completely'live'. Frenchie's new song was a little painful, as IMO so was the performance of Boyz II Men. That being said, it was a fun 3 hours, and the character actors, especially Ana Gasteyer were great, and I look forward to more musicals in the future on FOX.

Inventive Interactions: Andy Brennan by Humon Photography

'I try not to interact with students when I'm modeling naked because I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. But if someone comes to me and starts a conversation I absolutely love it.'

I have been looking to feature the work of Oregon's Humon Photography for awhile now. It was initially difficult to choose just the right model to feature, but that issue was solved beautifully when I saw his images of Andy Brennan last fall. Although I am not necessarily a huge fan of long hair in real life, I have recently began to appreciate how powerful hair can be, and how it has the ability to change the look, and feel of both a model and an image.

The first image I viewed of Andy was the image at the bottom of this piece. Andy dreadlocks, along with the poses and way Humon Photography staged, framed and lit the images created an almost primal feel, raw, sexy and energetic. Photographer and model proved to be perfect collaborators, utilizing the talents of each to create a uniquely beautiful set of images.

~Andy Brennan by Humon Photography~

Humon Photography has always had a passion for art and photography of all kinds, any style, anywhere and any one. This philosophy has led to shooting wide variety of models, traditional to alternative, conservative to outrageous and dramatic to quirky. The goal is to capture unique and impactful imagery, regardless of who is in front of his lens. I think the images resulting from this shoot are some of my favorite images from Andy's port and required not just the photographers passion, but required the 29 year old model to tap into his own artistic core as well.

'Andy was a joy to work with. Showing when/where he commits, awake, alert, with props/ideas, ready to collaborate. He's fun, interesting, willing to explore ideas. I certainly enjoyed and appreciated his candor, openness, and the sessions he and I have had working together.'

Andy also enjoyed the shoot and describes working with Humon Photography as a very fruitful collaboration. Being part of the creation process is something important to Andy, and something that led him to stop modeling for awhile. Andy never enjoyed working for photographers who worked using strict studio lighting and insisted on the same canned poses and set-ups. There was little gratification taking off his clothes, standing in a studio and doing the same poses as every other model that photographer had shot had done. In his work with Humon photography, Andy really felt like the character he created really came through and would recommend any model who wants to capture something unique to step in front of his lens.

'Humon Photography allowed me to feel like I could be myself. I could get weird and break out whatever props I wanted and contort myself in fun ways and he would get excited about it. A lot of photographers I've worked with like to stay within very rigid walls and frankly it bores me. I don't end up feeling particularly proud of any of the photographs and I struggle to find ones I love. That wasn't the case here. After our shoot there were dozens of photographs I loved. He took the time to go through and process every single photo. I've never seen that done before.'

For Andy, creating is a part of who he is and in addition to modeling Andy is also an artist who showcases his own artwork on divianART as well as his own site, Bees and Murderers, which also links to his webcomic. The quote at the top of the piece came from Andy commenting on his time modeling professionally for art classes and drawing groups. The three drawings, were some of Andy's favorites from the many students who have drawn him. I am always fascinated by models who pose for art classes. As difficult as must be to model nude for one artist, it would be an entirely different experience modeling naked for 20 or 30 would be artists...

'Nude modelling (or art modelling) is very different. There's very little interaction between myself and the teachers. I'm generally allowed to do whatever I want. In my experience art teachers tend to be more respectful than photographers and try not to interfere with the creative process. I like to find connections and learn what people like or don't like in models. No one has ever flirted me (sadly! lol) or done anything inappropriate. Somehow I get the feeling that happens more with female models. I like when I get to work with the same teachers again and again and we develop a bond. Or when students see me repeatedly and I see their faces light up when I walk in the room. It's a really nice feeling.'

Marc Singer: Tight

'What, with my tongue in your tail? nay, come again, Good Kate; I am a gentleman.'
Petruchio

I didn't post on January 29th, but I had put together a selection of my favorite images of birthday boy Marc Singer in preparation for the day. Singer, who turned 69, has always been one of Hollywood's hottest actors. Singer has always had a lean tight body that looked hot regardless of whether he was fighting aliens on V or waving his sword in Beastmaster.

Thankfully, Singer didn't seem shy about showing off his tight body, whether in his famous blue speedo on Battle Of The Network Stars or his black speedo in the TV movie, For Ladies Only. Showing off his body was something Singer started early in his career as you can see from these shots from his time playing Petruchio in a 1976 production of The Taming Of The Shrew. Given his wardrobe was mostly a pair of white tights, Singer couldn't have hid much, especially with the physicality the role required.

The Taming of the Shrew" by Shakespeare, Directed by William Ball and Performed at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in 1976.

If you want to check out more of Singer in his blue speedos, and a few images of him out of them, head on over to THE OVER-FLOW!

Hard To Keep Up With: Glenn by NICKET

Last year, after first featuring the work of California photographer NICKET, I went back into his portfolio with the intention of bugging him about images and models that I especially liked for future posts. Nicholas welcomed my suggestions and at the top of that list were his images of Glenn.

The 6' 1" San Francisco model is a photographers dream. Tall and lean with long blonde hair and a great facial features highlighted by his beautiful hazel eyes. No matter the pose or look, Glenn is striking in front of the camera and has a natural, engaging relationship with the camera. Glenn looks great doing fashion shots, but looks most at home, and especially sexy, wearing less... on the beach, particularly in his orange and black Clever briefs.

I love that each time I featured Nicholas' work, the shoot has always ended at the beach. Many photographers use the beach as a location, but you can tell Nicholas feels a connection with his surrounds, and that the sand, rock and water are more than just a place to shoot. The models he shoots there are not just wearing little and frolicking in the surf, not that there's anything wrong with that.... I love that Nicholas so beautifully has his models interact with their surroundings, feeling, touching, climbing and enjoying all that the beach has to offer.

'Working with Glenn was a great privilege. My first time working with him was only my third photo shoot and second with a professional model. (It was also the second in back to back shoots on the same day with my first dedicated model) Working with Glenn was made easy with his experience in posing and his training in parkour, although it made it hard to keep up with him.'

'The location was suggested to me by Glenn since this was my first shoot in San Francisco. He was very gracious and willing to work with me as I started out, for our first three shoots I was using a point and shoot camera. It was a great way to start my photography working with a fit, talented professional.'

I first saved the shot at the bottom of this piece awhile ago. I did a piece a couple of years ago featuring the work of photographer Walter Kundzicz and his work for Champion Studios. I especially loved Walter's work with the snorkel wearing 70's porn star Bo Branden. I love this series of images, creative, tons of fun and plenty of sexy.

Despite my research, I didn't find many more from the series, or anything specific about the hunk under the mask and wet suit. Here are some of my favorite shots from the shoot, and I am hoping to find out more info on Bo for some future FH pieces.

One of the New York theater world’s favorite married couples comes together on stage in the intimate confines of The Appel Room for a delicious evening of stories, songs, and laughs!

Mario Cantone is one of just a few comedians who is able to get me to laugh until it hurts. Those performers are rare, and most deffinately to be treasured. Not only hilarious, Cantone is a skilled actor and an incredible singer, whether as himself, or in character. This Saturday, Cantone, along with actor, songwriter, director and husband, Jerry Dixon hit the stage with American Songbook.

Outside The Box: Ash Satori by Brett Kiellerop

'I always look for more than just a pretty look in my models. I firmly believe the camera captures their personality, notjust their look, and Ash oozed personality like a snail oozes slime.'

I use the word 'artist' frequently on the blog but to me, not all photographers are necessarily artists. There are many highly skilled photographers, who don't necessarily create what is in front of them, but are incredibly talented at capturing it. I am sure there are many camera owners, some with a great eye for capturing beautiful landscapes, to many in the paparazzi, to those who used work taking Christmas family photos at Sears who weren't necessarily artists.

Brett Kiellerop is an artist. Capturing great looking men, in little to no clothing may be something he is great at, but it isn't something that is ever enough for him. If you look back at some of pieces featuring Brett's work there are certainly traditional images of the male form in his portfolio. The Australian artist has certainly taken advantage of his location and has shot many of his models on the beach, including his early work with Allen Lovell. Maybe in part it has to do with Brett's vision issues, which initially he thought might end his passion for photography.

Slow however, Brett began to navigate his way through the small tunnel of vision that he had left. Focusing less on the big scenic locations and shots and more on the creative aspect of his work, envisioning smaller, yet more focused and vibrant, unique and quirky moments to capture. I think all of those words fit Brett's recent shoot with Melbourne model Ash Satori.

Brett recently spent a couple of months in Melbourne, Australia, and says it was there that he had the pleasure of meeting and working with Ash Satori. They met via Model Mayhem and got together for a couple of quick photo shoots. 'He absolutely floored me... what an amazing guy!' With Brett's visual impairment, sometimes things take a little longer to set up and shoot and Ash was incredibly patient through the entire process.

'Ash is a walking contradiction. He's incredibly masculine, but arrived at our shoot wearing what was essentially a skirt. He's a neuroscientist, but craves a quirky life as a fire dancer and performer. He really isn't into labels at all, and just does whatever the fuck he wants... He's quite an inspiration.'

You can feel's Ash's spirit powerfully come through in Brett's images, especially in his sexy smile and that twinkle in his beautiful green eyes. I think one of the things I found both fascinating and fun was what was and wasn't shot in this shoot. When it comes imagery of the male nude, most photographers and models make decisions on what can, and cannot be captured. The body parts in question are generally the butt and the penis. I am not sure I have ever had a shoot sent on where neither were feature, yet, Ash's balls were on full display in a couple of shots. I think 'quirky' was successfully achieved!

Brett knows how much I love 'behind the scenes' stories and images and love the out-take of Ash sitting with his red box while on the phone below. As for behind the scenes stories, Brett had a great one as well. Although he had the permission of the hotel staff to sue the car park and pool as sets for the shoot, they still managed to get a little grief from the manager. The managers appearance to give that grief proved well timed however. As it turns out, just as he appeared on the scene, angry and yelling that what was going on wasn't acceptable, Ash was in the process of stripping down to his g-string. The manager became quite red and flustered when confronted by a hot, nearly naked male model. Seizing the opportunity, Brett was able to mollify him with a USB stick full of images of Ash from the shoot...

Cousin Coy

I was a little young to watch The Dukes of Hazzard when it first aired, but I that didn't stop me from becoming obsessed with the Duke Boys. Shirtless magazine shots of John Schneider and Tom Wopat stimulated more than a few visual fantasy's and I later caught a few episodes when repeats aired in the late 90's on TNN, the old Nashville Network. Even as a kid, it was clear the Duke boys were promoted as sex objects, something sort of unique on television at the time. I am not sure the network was trying to attract a gay young following, but I am sure they made up a fair share of the shows audience.

I don't think I ever saw an episode with Byron Cherry, but he still made an impression. Byron, and actor Christopher Mayer, (who sadly died in 2011) took over briefly for 19 episodes when Schneider and Wopat left the show over a contract dispute of merchandising. Cherry and John Schneider were friends who both originally tried out for the role of Bo. The producers must have remembered Cherry when they needed to find a hot blonde replacement to play cousin Coy.

Cherry epitomizes the perfect southern blonde farm boy and it's too bad the show decided to forget his character when the original stars returned. Cherry continued to work on television and in movies and has a couple of projects due for the release in the next year. Cherry also seems to have kept his time as a Duke alive appearing at many celebrity autograph shows sharing his time, and stories from Hazzard. You can check out some recent shots of the actor at his website HERE:

There isn't any sound, but still a great video and shirtless tribute to all 4 of the Duke boys.
