Harmony & Tension: Doug by Studio MG Photography

'I have no idea how his butt can be so white since all three times I've seen him, he's been naked at the beach!'

We've all heard horror stories of people meeting up with others on-line. The biggest issue many experience is the disconnect between someone's on-line biography and the person they end up actually meeting. I encounter this from time to time when profiling models, actors and artists for FH. I have had more than a few models describe themselves as dancers, who, in their images anyway, move about as elegantly as a cat forced into a bathtub.

I have also encountered several photographers who describe their philosophy as striving to capture the inner beauty and soul of the their subjects. Yet... then follow this description by then sending on a series of dick shots in which the man connected to that particular penis, barely visible or seen. I strive within my own life to have a strong connection with 'self.' Meaning, I know why I do what I do, and am aware of what I present to those around me. I think that is one of the reasons I so love the work of Mark from Studio MG Photography.

I photograph for fun - to create the unexpected - to surprise the viewer and to make the model shine. The goal is unique and sexy art! I specialize in the male form, and typically with a stylized or sculptural flair. My work is less about who the subject is, and more about their lines and curves. Wardrobe is minimal, if included at all. The look I try for is reasonably timeless...'

There is no veneer, nor any razzle-dazzle required, Mark's focus on lines and curves is clean, direct and visually eye-catching. Mark's imagery is also intensely erotic. Although enjoyable to view the male form when photographed posed or still, it is that much more satisfying, and often visually more dramatic, to view those lines and curves in motion. For Doug, the lines and curves his body creates are derived from his passion and study of yoga.

Patanjali, often called the Sage behind the Sutra, describes yoga as 'the progressive quieting of the fluctuations of the mind.' It is total connection to self, and then ,through the practice of yoga, intentionally disconnect from the negative feelings and sensations that cause us so much anxiety and emotional pain. In doing so, Patanjali believes we are then open to experience our true self. When viewing Mark's images of the Maui based yoga student and instructor, it seems clear that Doug has reached a place spiritually, that so many of us continue to strive for.

I love Doug's look, especially his man bun, and the way he is able to display strength, stamina and agility in his movements, moments of motion and body holds. Doug is also an andacrobat, handbalancer, and aqua enthusiast, all physical pursuits that are routed in balance and control. Balance and control are also core in the formation of spectacular lines and curves, making Doug and ideal subject for Mark to capture. Mark and Doug had not planned on shooting, but after a chance meeting on the beach, 12 hours later... the creating commenced.

Mark
'Before vacation on Maui last year I did a model search for the island. I wasn’t looking to do any shooting this trip, but it’s always nice to see who is around too. That’s where I discovered Doug. I complimented one of two of his photos, but didn’t suggest a shoot. Mike and I often linger on Little Beach - the gay/free-sprit/nude beach - until sunset, making our way back as the last of the light fades from the sky. As we’re sitting there maybe an hour before sunset a couple walks along the waterline - the guy looks vaguely familiar - trailing a photographer. The photographer proceeds to shoot the female model along the rocky shore and in some tide pools, as she goes through a series of amazing acroyoga poses. Occasionally the guy jumps in for a duo pose, but it is really her shoot. A quick check of instagram on my phone verified that it was Doug I was seeing, with his girlfriend.'

'They returned to the beach just after sunset, where the photographer continued working with her in the water with the colorful sky behind. Meanwhile I introduced myself to Doug since he was idle at the moment, and he couldn’t have been nicer. Within a few minutes we had agreed to meet at sunrise the following morning, when it would be his turn to shine for the camera.'

'Mark and I shot at a secluded beach in Makena, on the south side of Maui. It was a particularly calm and beautiful morning, around am or so. I was excited to work with Mark, who I had met on that same beach only about 12 hours earlier while I was shooting acrobatics with another photographer, because he was interested in me expressing myself through my yoga practice.'

Mark:
'Sunrise on the beach is magical. No one else is there and the only sounds are the birds in the trees and the waves gently breaking on the beach. As the sky loses it’s pink tones and the first first rays of the sun warm our skin Doug drops his clothes and welcomes a new day. He started with a series of stretches, gradually leading up to more and more complex balancing moves and acroyoga poses. This was Doug's morning and I was just there to capture the magic he created. My only input was limited to occasionally positioning him against a different aspect of the scenery to take advantage of the changing light.'

Doug:
'That is my ideal type of photoshoot. We shot for about an hour and a half starting in the sand and working out way across the beach to a more wooded area and ended in the water. It was a very enjoyable shoot for me, Mark has a great eye for capturing the beauty the poses add to the natural surrounding of such a special place. I am grateful for the opportunity to create this art with him and look forward to doing it again soon!'

Mark:
'All too soon a few beach goers began arriving and the spell was broken. Doug let his hair down and jumped into the water too cool off after his workout. I felt privileged to witness what felt like his private ritual as he welcomed a new day with serenity and beauty and gratefulness.'

Many of you who watched last summers Olympics in Brazil may have taken notice of British swimmer Adam Peaty. During the games, Peaty won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, the first time a Brit won the medal in 24 years.

Adam is absolutely gorgeous to me, with a cute adorable 'boy next door' face and grin and a body, that from the waist down looks more like a body builder than a swimmer. Those incredible legs of his I am sure help Adam fly through the water and also have given him the nickname, Adam 'Meaty' Peaty'. ESPN, you know to who to call for your next body issue!

If like me, you thought Ozzy being voted out, would provide the main drama on last nights Survivor, you were mistaken. Last night's tribal counsel was one of the most emotional 15 minute or so I have ever seen on reality television. It proved both the mediums power and ability to positively spotlight difference and diversity, and the horror of the mediums ability to magnify how far some (not just Varner, but the producers...) go to exploit others for the almighty dollar. It was beautiful and horrifying and I was riveted.

'You'll be having a bad hared day....'

When selecting stories for holiday's, I usually first by looking for a 'holiday hunk'. With Christmas and Halloween, it is easy, as there are hundreds of movies set on or about the those two particular holidays. Easter is a little trickier. There are Easter movies, most, like The 10 Commandments, are Christian based films, and not many are full of hunky naked actors. (although I did profile Charlton Heston and the cast of The 10 Commandments last Easter weekend. (Exodus 20)

Soooo, then I look for holiday inspired images, and with Easter, those usually involved hot guys wearing a pair of bunny ears. This year, when searching for holiday shots, the images, and especially those bunnies... started looking a lot more sinister. I came upon a site that listed Easter movies, and in the horror section was a film called Easter Bunny:Kill Kill, with the clever tag line 'Time to Dye!'

I was hooked. Other tag lines such as 'The Hunt is On', A Different Kind of Hip-Hop Tail and Here Comes Peter CottonHell had me on a Horror movie Easter hunt, for more Rabbit Raging films. The hunt was not a difficult one as I was sort of surprised to find out how many bunny killer themed movies have been made.

Most are B movies with limited budgets and few have actors you have heard of.  But...the titles, taglines and posters were enough of a draw to keep me interested. There are quite a few trailers and scenes on Youtube if any of these films grab you, but be warned, after years of being gutted at the hands of humans, these bunnies get their much deserved, and very bloody revenge.

Jump!

I have been following the career of the incredibly talented Nick Adams since first seeing him doing his Lonely Goatherd number from 2008's Broadway Bares. Since then, I have followed Nick and his career with close to 50 stories and posts on FH.

To help celebrate Easter, Nick returned to join The Skivvies (Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley) last month to perform a medley all about Easter. I think we can all agree, that in his Skivvie, skivvies, Nick jumping is a joy to behold!

Michael by photobyjd.

Many of us remember waking up on Easter morning hoping for more than just chocolate eggs. Many of us wanted something furry and cuddly for Easter, a bunny or maybe even an adorable baby chick! Alas, most of us were disappointed not to have a new pet to celebrate the day. Some of us though, got fake fur and feathers in the form of a stuffed bunny, bear or other toy animal. On second thought... an adorable furry bear, especially if it was Entertain Me's Michael, wouldn't be so bad to wake up and cuddle with on Easter morning!

Body Count: Brad by Unlimited Male

'I think that the images I got of him were some of the best that I've ever gotten.'

With FH now in its tenth year, I have begun to think about body count. Not how many incredibly sexy bodies I have featured, but how much do those bodies really count? FH is of course focused on the male form, and I reuse those three words frequently when describing FH, and within the stories I write. Sometimes however, I wonder if 'form' is actually what draws me most strongly to an a model, an artist, or an image.

The Internet is full of images of hot bodies, more so than ever with the popularity of selfies. But I have begun to realize that a great body alone doesn't grab my attention. I can't think of the last time I have featured a model or the work of an artist, where the body was the main attraction. Don't get me wrong, bodies can do amazing things, especially when it's lines, curves and movements are captured by a skilled artist in a great image. A body on it's own though, not connected to a great smile or face, a talent, a personality or creative expression, is just not that interesting.

The last time I featured the work of Jay of Unlimited Male, the model was Joshua and the title, and theme, of the piece was Uninhibited. Joshua was so relaxed and natural in front of Jay's lens, especially for it being his first nude shoot, it added to the enjoyment in viewing the images. When I was reading Jay's description of working with Brad, a similar theme arose.

'Brad is a very sexy guy. He showed up early, was very easy to work with and I was very happy with the results. I think that the images I got of him were some of the best that I've ever gotten. Of course, that had a lot to do with the fact that he was so relaxed and natural in front of the camera. All in all it was quite an enjoyable shoot and I look forward to having the chance to work with him again!'

I think when a model's relaxed and natural, we get a bit more of a glimpse, into the man beyond just his outward appearance. Now to be sure, Brad's outward appearance is a site to behold, especially his great arms, sexy jawline and deliciously lickable nipples. But what drew my attention, had me returning was Brad's 'died and gone to heaven' blue eyes. I especially loved that Jay snapped so many fantastic shots of Brad staring directly into, and sending so many beautiful messages, straight through the camera.

Archie & the Gang hit Coachella

The gang from Riverdale hit Coachella this past weekend with Archie and friends (Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Casey Cott, Lili Reinhart and KJ Apa) hitting the California music and art festival. It's great to see the cast out having fun before the show gears up for season 2 on The CW. KJ looks a little worse for ware, especially as the night progresses, but at least the more he party's, the more skin he seems to show.

Riverdale has been one of my favorite shows this past season. The hotness factor is part of the reason, but my childhood love the Archie digest also plays a role. There are some things I hope the show works out for season 2, like less of the Blossoms, and more of Kevin. (Casey Cott needs to be an official regular)

I think they also have slow things down! In the shows first five or six episodes, Archie, who in the show is only 16 or 17, was linked romantically or sexually with Betty, Veronica, Miss Grundy and Val, not to mention being blackmail dated by Cheryl. Betty and Jughead should also not be together already, the show is paced like it was only to going to run one season, but with a renewal, they need to steady the pace or they are going to run out of story way too soon.

KJ and a non-Riverdale friend.

The Art of the Tease: Sam by Bob Burkhardt

$

'Flirting is teasing, and teasing builds anticipation.'

It's unfortunate that teasing has become such a negative word. With the increase in open discussions about bullying, teasing is often used to describe how bully's interact with others. Bully's torment, they don't tease, their intent is cruel, to hurt and belittle. When I think of teasing, I think of fun, I think of play. I tease my niece and nephews, I tease my parents, an aunt I am especially close to, some of my friends on occasion.    I also tease people I'm attracted to.

For me, there is an intimacy about teasing, a positive feeling that flows between myself and the person I am teasing. In order to for the 'tease' to be effective, I have to know the person, and know their reaction to my words and playfulness. It is usually the beginning of something, an opening to lighten, or begin an interaction on a fun, positive note. Teasing can also be a great theme in photography, especially when capturing the human body. The theme however, is not one that all artists are able to skillfully execute.

It was the image above, and the image below that inspire me to contact Bob Burkhardt about featuring his work with Sam, the hot model in the low hanging jeans.. I love a beautifully captured partial butt, or butt crack shot. They are like a introduction, a hint, a tease of what might be to come. A great tease shot doesn't taunt, nor is it the end of something, instead, it's the kick off the game about to be played

For many, including some photographers, images of the male form are all about the penis. Often, when a model chooses not to show the goods, the images become all about the covering and the hiding. Instead of creatively shooting the the rest of the body, they shoot a succession of images of the model hiding his genitals or covering his package with his hands. Worse, is when they blur or darken them during the editing process, turning the model into a life size Ken doll.

A skilled photographer, one who focuses on the entire male body, can conceal without the viewer feeling cheated. Teasing is not about arousing desire, then pulling the rug out from under the viewer, without ever intending to satisfying them. Some photographers are able to stimulate and create curiosity in a very erotic and immensely satisfying way.

There really isn't any actual 'teasing' going on in these shots, a good photographer can use the art of tease as a way to tantalize and entice with the viewer gratified, and not feeling like they're being visually manipulated or cheated out of something that never arrives. Bob Burkhardt always delivers.

Sam is clearly no Ken doll, even without a full on frontal, Bob creatively captures Sam in his entirety. If you have checked out some of my previous features on Bob's work, you know that frontals are part of most of his shoots. With this set of images of Sam, Bob beautifully captured not only Sam's incredible physique, but his personality, attitude and both his physical and emotional strength.

Neil Phelps in Sex, Lies and Renaissance

If memory serves me correctly, one the first penis's that I ever saw flopping around on screen belonged to actor Neil Phelps. It was the late 80's and I was probably around 11 or 12 years old. I was staying up late watching my little 14 inch color TV in my bedroom. On the late show that night was the 1983 version of Fanny Hill. (Sex, Lies and Renaissance)

At about half way through the film there is a sex show. Three different acts, with three different couples. Although the female's were the focus, I remember being surprised and thrilled to see a decent amount of male nudity as well. I whipped out a VHS tape, but wasn't able to start recording until about half way through, but caught Neil's erotic lashing.

When I first started FH, the scene was on my mind. You don't really forget your firsts. I did a post back in 2007 trying to find out the identity of the actor, who was un-credited in the film. I used a few crappy caps from the old VHS copy I had taped. An anonymous blog reader graciously responded with Neil's name.

I have been meaning to do a follow-up, but put it on hold until I recently across a good quality version of the flick. Neil looks just as incredible as I remember. Not only an incredible ass, he also has an incredibly handsome face. I also find it very hot how we see so much of his member from the back, between his legs. I think this was his only movie, but there are a few more TV credits on his IMDB page I will have to try to seek out.
