On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me...

Nick May in The Houseboy

It was back in 2008 that I began the series 12 Days.  The original intent of the category was to highlight Christmas movies with male nudity.  I was inspired after seeing Nick May in Houseboy, especially the scene featuring some of the actors lying naked under and around the Christmas tree. There was a certain holiday magic with the mix of male skin, tinsel and Christmas lights.

Over the next few years I did one or two pieces around the holiday season, but it wasn't until 2014 that the series really took off, with 15 posts devoted to the theme.  I loved including classic Christmas movies along with modern holiday films and undressing those Christmas sweater actors who appeared within them.

Andrew Walker in Dashing Through The Snow

The series took off with the rise of Hallmark Christmas movies.  The Hallmark movies are usually focused on a female lead, with their male counterparts often serve as window dressing.  They always cast a hot male lead and are usually written as caring, upstanding and romantic characters.  Given how angelic most of the male characters are written, it was fun to find other roles where the actor was a little more unwrapped.

Aaron O'Connell in With Love, Christmas

The interesting thing about Hallmark movies, is that you don't really have to pay attention to enjoy them.  My mother always had them on when I was back home visiting, and would often catch just a few minutes of one, see an actor I found attractive, and make note to look him up when I had the time.  I often have on at home as background, a movie I can have on, but not have to pay close attention to.  They are almost like music, you can do other things, cook, work, write, and still look up from time to time and still get the gist of the story.

I also love the variety of actor usually cast.  There are new actors on their way up, there are once in demand actors on their way down.  Their is also occasionally a popular established actor, as well as  soap stars, reality stars and more than a few male models in their first role.  I also especially love researching the numerous Canadian actors who frequent Hallmark movies.  Since most of the films are shot in Canada, Hallmark movies are full of Canadian actors and actress's in both lead and supporting roles.

Marcus Rosner inEvergreen

I almost ended the series this year.  It was mother who first introduced me to the Hallmark movie mainly because most of November and December, they were on 24/7 at my parents house.  I so connected them with her, with this being the first Christmas without my mother, I wasn't sure I would feel like turning them on.  But... the goal of most of the Hallmark movies is to comfort, and a couple of weeks ago, that's just what happened when I turned one on.  I liked the male actor, and although only watched or heard) about half of it, found it comforting to have one in the background as I painted the ceiling in my kitchen.  Check out the movie, and the former WB teen idol in the lead on Page 2 HERE:

'Plumbers make you wet...'

Owing an older home, I often require the services of contractors, electricians and plumbers.  I have used the same plumber for about 6 years and he has been by so often, he has a key to my house.  He s a nice guy in his late 40's or early 50's.  Although he has a nice smile, and great laugh, he's not someone that I've ever found especially attractive.

The last time I called him in it was to replace some old pipes in the upstairs bathroom.  The water had been turned off to the top floor and I rarely used that bathroom.  Although he usually arrived alone, on this particular day, he was accompanied by his summer apprentice, a 19 year old community college student, putting in his work placement hours before his graduation.

My plumber did all the talking, whispering to me later that his new assistant was incredibly shy.  The apprentice had a slim build, I guessed he worked out but it was hard to tell under his over sized work shirt which also went down way beyond his waste and his jeans.  There was something incredibly sexy about him, but after a quick minute of conversation they went upstairs to work on my pipes.

About a half hour later, my plumber came downstairs and asked if I had a grocery or garbage bag.  In his hand were his assistants jeans, covered in black sludge.  He laughed and told me that when they opened up the pipes, the sludge poured out all over his assistants pants.  He put the pants in the bag and told me he'd be back in 20 minutes as he was heading to Wal-Mart to pick up his apprentice a new, but cheap pair of pants.

When he left, all I could think of was the cute 19 year old standing upstairs without any pants on.  I did't want to embarrass the poor guy, especially given how shy he was, by barging upstairs, although it took everything in me to resist.  I did at one point yell up the stairway if he needed anything, but all I got back was a faint, 'no thanks.'

That morning last year came back to me after seeing this stunning set of shots of Brian byMale Beauty by bengie.  Although bengie sent on quite a few themes, this shower set had me imagining a similar story to mine, but... with a much hotter ending!  I had visions of Brian being called in as a general contractor or plumber, doing some work in the bathroom.

But.. as luck would have it, or as luck we'd wish it, our general contractor had a mishap, spilling sludge, clear, paint or any other messy liquid all over his clothes, anything messy enough to cause  him to strip down, clean off and take a shower before being able to complete the job he was so diligently working on.

If you've check out my previous posts on FH featuring bengie's work (HERE:) you know the Cheshire based Photographer always manages to capture intensely sensual images that cause the body, mind and imagination to work overtime!  These shots of Brian certainly did that for me. Brian has incredible body for sure, but it's those beautiful blue eyes that grabbed my attention and held on tight.  I am not I, or anyone, could have stopped themselves from running up to the second floor if a pantless Brian was in the shower.

12 Days: Ryan Paevey in Hope for Christmas

Sydney and Rayanne are embraced by the town in ways that only fate and the magic of Christmas can explain, and Sydney soon finds herself hopelessly smitten by Mac, an elementary schoolteacher, fill-in Santa, and the very definition of "a good man."

As I stated in this year's introduction to 12 Days, Hallmark often casts soap stars and models in their holiday movies.  With Hope At Christmas they got two for the price of one with former model and former General Hospital star Ryan Paevey.   I am also a sucker for movies about local book stores and a book store is sort of at the heart of the story.

I mentioned that I don't always actually watch Hallmark movies as much as have them on as background entertainment, but for Hope For Christmas, the film, and especially  Paevey had my full attention.  I have featured Paevey on FH several times, (HERE:) and never tire of seeing his handsome face and incredible body.  Although he was covered in winter sweaters throughout this project, it reminded me of the many hot shots of Paevey there are out there to enjoy!

Under the Illusion: Mister Davis by Greg Tsontakis-Mally

'I have a lot of compassion and understanding from the model's point of view. It is a collaborative effort and without the models, there would be no work.'

When I first profiled New York artist Greg Tsontakis-Mally back in 2015,  (Portraits and Places) I was struck by a number of things. The stunning images, and the quiet beauty both seen and felt in his photos was what first visually intrigued me.  I was secondly fascinated by how creatively Greg weaved his experience as an artist and painter into his views of the male form.

I was also interested in his philosophy of incorporating his model's point of view.  Greg enjoys working with his models whereas some artists view models as working for them in the creation of their work.   Both perspectives for shooting are acceptable, but each leaves their own unique mark on the work and final images. For me , this is particularly evident in degree's of illusion.

Most photography of the human form, especially in fashion, and with commercial and professional photography, is based on illusion.  The photographer's job is to create an image that attracts attention, and in most cases, encourages the viewer to part with some of their money.  Who the model is mostly irrelevant to this process, their face, their body, their image, is to create a very specific, and very planned out desired illusion.

Given much of his experience has been with painting and life drawing, Greg is used to replicating what is in front of him, what he see's and not necessarily what he creatively imagines or fantasizes about.  That doesn't mean reality and illusion don't collide from time to time, Greg's choice of subject is of course his passion for the male form.  What it means, especially in this series of images, is the results are just under the illusion,  keeping the viewer  just a slightly unbalanced by teetering back and forth between both fantasy and reality.

When I spotted these shots on Greg's Model Mayhem portfolio, I was immediately drawn to these shots of Mister Davis.  They were both beautifully erotic while at the same time.... tantalizing unsettling.  They also captured the answer to a question I'd had about Mister Davis.  Many might remember Mister Davis (Gregorio) from his appearances on FH.  I first featured his work with Greg Lindeblom in June of last year. (Peligroso) I followed it up four months later by featuring Mister Davis's work in October with Anthony Timiraos. (Skin Deep)

When I worked on the piece in June, Mister Davis was a part of the process, giving his thoughts on the shoot and contributed to the final story.  In October, I again tried to reach him for his input, but this time, my questions remained unanswered.  I was told Mister Davis was having some life struggles, and was, for a period of time, out of range of any Internet signals...

I knew what that meant, and didn't want to cause him any roaming charges, so just hoped his time away would act as a Janus, a passage to new beginnings.  When I saw Greg's images, and noticed the ankle bracelet, I was struck by it's inclusion, and fetish edge and depths of beauty and reality that it added to the images.  Greg shared that Mister Davis mentioned the bracelet when they were arranging the shoot.  Mister Davis said that most photographers were editing it out of final images, but Greg chose to include it.

'I decided to keep the ankle bracelet in. It had not only an element of truth, but an allusion to implied danger. Greg did not mind that I included the ankle bracelet. He was great to work with. He has a natural animal grace and couldn’t take a bad pose. He also understood working with a large format camera in mostly natural light demands long exposure times and was able to hold still during the exposure. Almost none of them were out of focus. A pleasure to work with.'

Christopher Guest: Best in Show

It took me awhile to appreciate Christopher Guest.  As a kid, I found him annoying.  Not that he wasn't talented, but my older brothers loved Spinal Tap, and I didn't get the appeal, and was angry every time they chose it on our trips to Blockbuster.  But, as I got older, and especially after seeing Best In Show, my love and respect for Guest and his talents grew.

Best In Show (2000)

'I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.'
Harlan Pepper

Guest not only directed and wrote (along with Eugene Levy) Beset In Show, his character, hog lovin Harlan Pepper was brilliantly hilarious.  When I recently re-watched the movie, way to late into the night on Thursday, I again feel in love with Guest, and Harlen.  This time, I started to wonder about Guest's earlier roles.  I knew he had a short stint on Saturday Night Live, and although the cast for his season looks amazing, (Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Julia Louis-Dreyfus) it's hard to find much of the 1984 season on-line

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Saturday Night Live (1984)

Girlfriends (1978)

I decided to look and see if Guest had any on screen nudity, and didn't really expect to find any.  But....there is one scene I found from the 1978 film Girlfriends.  The independent and low budget film featured Thirtysomething's Melanie Mayron as a photographer, looking at a life alone after her roommate marries and movies out.

The film, directed by Claudia Weill, is described as one of the most influential films about female friendship and is said to be one of Lena Dunham's inspirations for her TV show Girls. Dunham brought director Weill in to also direct an episode of her HOB series.  Guest plays Eric, a boyfriend of Susan's (Mayron) who struggles with her independence.  Guest has one nude scene, showing his cute bubble butt in a love scene with Mayron.

Beyond the Obvious: Kay by The Third Eye

'Kay can pose like nobodies business, he instinctively knows what looks good in front of the camera and has some chameleon like qualities . I felt blessed to have worked with him.'
Richard, The Third Eye

The Third Eye has become one of my favorites artist's to feature on  FH.  I love both the images he captures, and exploring the stories that they tell.  When I most recently featured Richard's work this past September,  (A Layered Perspective)  I was saddened when the Ohio based photographer shared that the shoot with Nathan would be his last.

I don't believe artists can ever really stop creating, even if their creative idea's remain exclusively in thought.   I had a hunch Richard might be drawn back, but although shares he does miss shooting, and has shot a couple of times at his home, Richard shares that since ending his studio lease, he's been enjoying a far less stressful existence.   Richard did however promise that he'd stored plenty of nuts, and would be happy to share plenty of those nuts (shoots) once he had time to go through and edit the images.

One of those shoots was with Kay, a Columbus based model who's images I'd been recently enjoying in his work with a number of my favorite photographers.  As you can see, the Columbus based model has a beautiful fluidity in front of the camera, creating elegantly erotic visuals.  Professionally involved in the arts himself, Kay works extensively with models within his own career.  Through his work, Kay was often called upon to pose and found he had a liking for it.

'I work with models myself, in my own job, and I've been around visual people for quite some time. I'd modeled for life drawing classes in college, but never given posing for photos any thought until a model I was working with actually asked me to model for him. It took me by surprise, but I ended up doing it, and found it a really positive experience!'

Kay had seen and like Richard's work before, liked what he saw, and he reached out about doing a shoot.  Richard was still in his studio which Kay remembers a great space in a converted old industrial building with large windows.  They completed the entire shoot under the natural light from those incredible windows.

'Kay was very memorable for me, (not just the obvious) because he cared about what he was doing and took pride in his work. He was also very pleasant and easy to collaborate. Since Kay is a full time artist himself, he can pose very well based on what is appealing to his own eye.'
Richard

With the on-line world full of images of great looking bodies, creating memorable impressions can be a challenge. Richard's description of Kay's pride in his work very much parallels what I've come to know about Richard's artistic philosophy.  His natural ability, and his natural inclination, to use the third eye, to see beyond the surface, beyond the obvious, is what for me, gives Richard's work such depth and resonance.

Blast from the Past: George Peppard

The first time I saw actor George Peppard, it was during his run on The A Team, a show my father watched, but a show I had little to no interest in.  Although I later discovered the hottness of actor Dirk Benedict, a the time, the show, and especially Peppard, did nothing for me.

With Dirk Benedict in The A Team (1983-87)

It was years later when finally seeing Breakfast At Tiffany's, that I got the Peppard appeal.  Whenever the film is television, I DVR it, and although it hasn't really ever lived up to the hype, it's a bit of a problematic classic... but the handsome blonde, especially shirtless and smoking in bed, always manages to grab my attention.

The Victors (1963)

Breakfast At Tiffany's (1961)

'You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.'

Dano on Demand

As a lover of great film and television, and occasionally some not so great movies and TV shows, I used to think the VCR, and then DVR, were the greatest inventions.  These recording devices however, had their limits.  They could only record for our enjoyment, shows we were aware of.  Like me, I'm sure many of you remember buying the TV guide, (it's much better digest version size) and ticking off or circling the shows and movies to program to record.

Today, some of my favorite shows weren't on my radar to record before they aired, but only came to my attention after they'd already been on.  This is the case with Ben Stiller's Showtime series, Escape at Dannemora. I remember hearing the story on the news a few years ago, but wasn't aware it was made into a television show until seeing a clip of actress Bonnie Hunt on The Talk discussing the project. I first noticed actor Paul Dano after his stand out performance as Dwayne in Little Miss Sunshine.  I thought he was excellent in the role, but honestly,  haven't seen much of his work since.

Thanks to Bonnie Hunt, and my new favorite media invention, On Demand, I am enjoying Dano's turn as David Sweat.  I am two episodes in and loving it.  Although Hunt's description, and the Golden Globe nominee's had me interested, I was a little hesitant after learning Patricia Arquette was playing the lead.  I have liked Arquette in some roles, but questioned her acting abilities in others.  As Tilly however, Arquette has found a perfect fit. If you haven't yet watched the series, I would recommend checking it out.

'For it is in giving that we receive.'

Josh Mosier bKent

It's that time of year for giving, bringing pleasure to another, or giving pleasure to oneself.  I used to love shopping, especially in book, music, video and drugstores.  Now.. not so much.  Today, except for a few craft fairs and local businesses I want to support, I do most of my buying on-line.

Tanner by Anthony Timiraos

If you're a lover of the male form, and I assume given you're on FH, you are, there are many gift buying options, all available to be purchased on-line. Whether for yourself, or for that special some one, most can arrive at your door before Christmas, or arrive in your in-box in just a matter of minutes.

Almost all of the artists and models that I feature have perfect gifts for that special someone.  Almost every artist I feature have prints for fans of their artistry, or the models they capture.  Some, like byKent and Doableguys, also have artwork and original drawings that would look incredible on your walls.

Body & Soul Two by Bob Burkhardt

When I was a kid, my favorite gifts were always books.  I may not have always appreciated them all at the time, but now that I'm older, those books, with the personal messages on the first page from much missed relatives, are truly treasured.  Most artists offer great hard and soft cover books you can wrap and give in person, or on-line digital downloads to enjoy right away.

Gordon Nebeker's Muscles and Mountains III

Gordon Nebeker's Muscles and Mountains Three is a visual smorgasbord of lovers of the male form featuring this years Utah shoot with 801fitnessfreak, Quin, Benjamin and Jordan. (Peaks & Cheeks) I was thrilled to be able to feature Gordon, Mark and Mike's Lake Powell shoot again this year, and Gordon has compiled a great selection of images, including some very hot behind the scenes shots in the third volume.

Ash by Mark Leighton

Although each has created several books showcasing their work, FH posts featuring Mark Leighton's work with Ash, (The Journey) Anthony Timiraos expose more and Bob Burkhardt's Body & Soul Two were immensely popular with FH readers over the past year. Although I previewed each of these books over the last 12 months, they were only a taste and a tease of what lays beyond the front cover.

New Manhattan Studio's not offers private portfoliosof some of your favorite models, including two (and a third on the way) of FH favorite Bond, NMS studios also has Captured Shadows, a great gift that continues to give throughout the year.  The most recent issue, Captured Shadows 5 features 124 pages of full frontal portfolios featuring 5 different models including Bond,  and the stunning Justin pictured here;

'I saw the ball coming and closed my eyes on the lob, but when I opened them, I saw it had gone in. I ran to the fans behind the goal and they tore all my clothes off!'
Riccardo Saponara

Italian Footballer Riccardo Saponara had a successful weekend,  not to mention a revealing one...  When the 26 year old striker hit an equaliser in the 99th minute to claim a 2-2 draw against Lazio, he sprinted into the crowd to celebrate.

Although Sampdoria whipped off his own shirt, the pants started to fall on their own.  Then... with a little help from some happy, and handsy fans, down came his white briefs as well.  Sampdoria may not have minded the few slaps on the ass he received, but in the last picture, it looks like someone's going up for a full on exam.,,
