Natural Obstacles: Kristian B by Bodytorium

'I'd followed Kristian on Instagram for quite some time and enjoyed watching his goofy yet charming expressions and workout clips.'

Although the visuals, the final images, are always a focus, with some photographers, there are other things I always look forward to.  Whenever I receive an e-mail from Phil from Bodytorium, or whenever I check out his site, I'm always excited to check out the selection of models he's selected to shoot with and spotlight.  I'm never disappointed.

Phil masterfully uses both social media, and connections with friends and models, to find unknown models who've never done a nude shoot before.  That's certainly the case with Kristian B who  Phil spotted on Instagram. Lukas K, another Bodytorium model, had  already introduced Phil to one of his friends Robert. (A Little Nudge)  It was a nice surprise then, when Lukas told Phil that his friend Kristian was up for posing for a nude shoot.

A wait was required as Kristian was still a few weeks away from his 18th birthday.  A week after the big day, a shoot date was set.  Phil already knew Kristian had the look, the strapping Slovak is 2 meters tall (6’7″) and weighs 98 kilos (216 lbs). He’s also a weight lifting maniac and  already has a nutrition supplement sponsor.

'When I called Kristian to plan a shooting date and to make sure we were both on the same page, Kristian’s deep, macho and very mature-sounding voice made it seem like I was talking to someone much older. I was told some funny stories about how Kristian was a little devil when he was a kid. Lukas K said “it’s amazing that after all of that, we’re now friends.

Kristian had definitely grown up and calmed down and the photoshoot went very smoothly. Phil enjoyed getting to know Kristian, his only issue, was the location they ended up having to use. They ended up having to settle for terrain that was very flat, and similar looking in all directions..  Phil usually uses outdoor locations with hills and valleys with tree's and rocks to climb on.  This location had no natural obstacles for Kristian to lean on and pose on.

I'm always impressed with Phil's skill and ability to create such beautifully natural nudes, especially with models stripping off for the very first time.  It speaks to the trust and relationships he builds with the models he works with.  So many of the models Phil works with, return, bringing friends that they recommend to Phil.  Cleary, most experience positive and empowering adventure during their time in front of Phil's lens.

Blast From The Past: Jason London

'All I'm saying is that if I ever start referring to these as the best years of my life - remind me to kill myself.'
Pink, Dazed and Confused

This piece was originally going to be part of my Horror Hunk series.  I 'half watched'The Rage: Carrie 2 last month, especially when actor Jason London was on the screen.  I loved the original Carrie, but wasn't overly drawn to the 1999 follow-up. The performances were decent, but the story was weak, especially the family dynamics, so central to the power of the original film.

While watching, I was sure I knew actor Jason London.  I recognized his handsome face, but couldn't really place him until a visit to IMDB.  London's worked consistently in film and television since the early 90's, and in some fairly well known projects.  I was surprised however, how few of them I'd seen, especially the role that really launched his fame, 1993's Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused (1993)

As soon as I saw 1991's The Man on the Moon on his film resume, I knew where I'd seen that face before.  19 at the time, London played Court, starring along side co-starred along with Reese Witherspoon in the coming of age film.  This was London' second professional credit, and his first featured film.

The Man in the Moon (1991)

'Don't!  Don't love me now. when things are so mixed up.'

As part of the story, Court and Dani (Witherspoon) form a close friendship during their daily swims on sunny days.  During one of their swims, Court isn't wearing underwear and jumps into the creek nude.  It is a quick flash, and it's doubtful that London was naked for the scene, but it's the closest to a 'nude' scene from the actor.

Many readers may know Jason's twin brother Jeremy, who appeared as a regular on the television shows Party of Five and I'll Fly Away.  Although Jason's biggest hits were in the 1990's, he continued to go between film and television, working steadily through the 2000's and 2010's.  London currently has over a half dozen films due for release in the next year.

Although London wasn't nude in The Rage, there were a few nude extra's walking around in one of the locke room scenes.

' A group of awful idiots fail at throwing a party over and over. '

Ryan Mertz

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one, but I just discovered the 2017 film Neighborhood Food Drive, and it's exceptional nude scene.  In the film, Madeline and Naomi have a new upscale restaurant called Ciao in Chicago's Humboldt Park.  They're facing a backlash however for their role in gentrifying the neighborhood.

Kaelan Strouse

The two decide to throw a neighborhood food drive at Ciao to boost their restaurant, and their image, in a positive light.  They also hire a new intern to help with the planning.  The intern, Bianca Pentecost (Ruby McCollister) is connected to the restaurant through her boyfriend who works at Ciao as a waiter.

Near the end of the film, Bianca has a bit of a breakdown while drawing two nude male models. The models Greg and Daniel, are played by Ryan Mertz and Kaelan Strouse.  The models, being the sweet guys they are, comfort Bianca when she begins to cry.  The scene is interwoven in with others, but I managed to find a clip which includes the best part of Greg and Daniel posing.

Creative Consciousness: Nick Keith Ingram Photo

'Nick's physique and stature was pretty much the archetype for what I considered the “ideal” model.'
Although California based photographer Keith Ingram was a bit too young to have experienced the 'Golden Age' of male physique magazines like Physique Pictorial and Body Beautiful, they did have an impact. For so many people, especially for artists, early visuals are often implanted within the Imaginations, forming intrinsic connection with future passions and work created often decades later.

This is certainly the case for me. I can trace back so much of what I love about photography to visuals I saw, enjoyed and collected when I was a kid. I used to love pin-ups and glamour shots of both male and female actors that I saw in entertainment magazines.  I used to save my favorites in a big scrapbook, even if I didn't know who actor was.  Keith Ingram used to collect images as well, images he'd found and seen.  Even before he started shooting himself, these images were already implanted in his creative consciousness.

'Nick's physique and stature was pretty much the archetype for what I considered the “ideal” model. I have a particular fondness for muscular models in the 5’6” to 5’8” range but I don’t encounter this body type as much as I’d like. Nick appreciated the compliment and was very excited to meet up and make magic. '

With Keith's home base being in California, and Nick, a college student in upstate New York, scheduling a shoot wasn't easy.  They began communicating though, and each were mutually impressed with each other's online portfolios. Keith knew he'd work with the 21 year old wrestler turned bodybuilder from the onset, and was determined to plan a shoot on his next trip east. As you can see, an opportunity indeed arose!  Keith collaborated with Wes from New Manhattan Studios to share expenses for a New York City adventure and shoot with Nick.

'The opportunities for me to shoot in a commercial photography studio are few and far between. I tend to gravitate more towards locations dependent on available light (along with some well placed strobes). Imagine my delight to be able to shoot Nick in both environments over the course of a weekend - I’m really pleased with the results!'

'I didn’t want to devote my whole time shooting with Nick to living out some retro fantasy - Nick is a fun, energetic guy with a certain devilish charm (which was his screen name at the time we met). I wanted to make sure I captured the aesthetic as well as the provocative nature of my new-found “muse”. I hope our paths cross again someday soon.'

Speaking of opportunity, I'm excited to have the opportunity to again spotlight Keith's work.  I loved featuring Keith's work in the past, (HERE:) and he introduced me to shoots and models that have become some of my favorites.  I actually first noticed Keith's work with Nick a few years ago, but it took awhile to pull things together.  This year in particular, with Covid, the election, and the California fires, scheduling a posting time was challenging, but certainly worth the wait!

Seein' Red

Anyone who had to take a bus to school knows most of the fun, and all of the trouble, happened at the back.  As far away from the driver as possible was the usually the motto.  When I was really young, I sat up front, far away from the noise, and the idiots at the back.  As I got a bit older, I gravitated further and further back and by the time I hit grade 11, was one of those idiots.

Now, this doesn't look much like a school bus, more like a college trip, or more likely a sports team on the road.  I'm not sure if buddy's red thong was discovered by his teammates, or shown off all on it's own. Either way, he seems to enjoy revealing the red.  I attempted to search for more from this series, and if anyone has seen more, let me know.  This is one bus ride, I wouldn't mind taking again.

Vincent D'Onofrio: Actors & SKIN

I've never seen Law & Order Criminal Intent, and except for Mystic Pizza, I don't think I'd seen any of Vincent D'Onofrio's films.  I have a vague memory of seeing 2000's The Cell, but I think it was during a party, and only remembered bits and pieces.  I certainly didn't remember seeing Vincent's bits and pieces...  You won't seem on the Blue Ray either, but in the original VHS release, you can see the camera did point just a wee bit lower....

I was surprised when searching how many nude scenes D'Onofrio actually did, and how different he looks in each of his roles.  There's a reason the actors nickname is The Human Chameleon Noffy. I'm sure it refers to his characters, but he's also shaped shifted in many of his roles.  The actor in fact, stated that one of the reasons he did Mystic Pizza, was because he was thin, and wanted it memorialized on film.

Hotel Paradise (1995)

1995's Hotel Paradise has an interesting premise, one in which D'Onofrio's character The Naked Stranger, was actually naked the entire film  Sadly, the filming was frustratingly edited.  Although we see quite a lot of D'Onofrio's co-star Theresa Russell, we only get a few quick glimpses at D'Onofrio's derriere, one during the film's closing credits.  For the rest of it, The Naked Stranger is covered by a satin sheet.  He does wear it well though.

Steal This Movie
(2000)

'Five  Years after Yippie founder Abbie Hoffman goes underground to avoid a drug-related prison sentence, he contacts a reporter to get out the story of the FBI's covert spying, harassment and inciting violence they blame on the Left.'

The Cell
(2000)

'You cannot kill me.'
Carl Starghler

I think I remember parts of The Cell, well, some of Jennifer Lopez's costumes, but it may not be a memory of seeing the film as much as remembering seeing promotional shots for the movie in magazines.  Regardless, it may be time for a re-watch.

Mystic Pizza (1988)

I've seen 1988's Mystic Pizza a few times, usually when it airs on television.  I think I only watched it once the first time, all the way through, but when I see it on, there are a few scenes I like to check out.  The film is known primarily for it's female cast members, particularly Julia Roberts. Although for me, Conchata Ferrell was the main draw in the female cast, it was Roberts who made an impression, just before her star making roles in Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman.

'And all you love is my dick! Do you know how that makes me feel?'
Bill, Mystic Pizza

As great as the female cast was, this is FH however, and it's the men, who often grab my focus.  With Mystic Pizza, there is a trio to choose from, and that doesn't include a young Matt Damon who makes his big screen debut in the film.  The first time I saw the film, I think it was William R. Moses (HERE:) I was first drawn to, the second time, it was definitely Adam Storke. (HERE:)

When I recently caught a few scenes when it aired on TV, it was all about Bill and Vincent D'Onofrio for me.  I could certainly see why Jojo (Lily Taylor) couldn't quit him, and why she was so drawn to his body, and especially his penis.   After this viewing, I thought I check and see if D'Onofrio had done any nudity, I couldn't really remember seeing any nude scenes before.  Low and behold, he did, and enough to warrant an entry in Actors & Skin.  Check out the SKIN below!

Maintaining Moxy: Sergey by Richard Rothstein

'It's been a really challenging year....'

Photographer Richard Rothstein speaks for all of us when he speaks of the challenges we all had to confront in 2020.  Although we were all faced with challenges and obstacles, artists had a unique set of hurdles they had to maneuver over and around.

The arts have sadly never been considered essential services, and usually the last to get support and funding.  This, despite the fact it was the arts, so many of us turned to when the pandemic began.  I know my own draw to movies, television shows, photography and art was intensified, especially in the late spring and summer.  Escapism was a must, with genuine laughs, vivid colors, erotic energy and passionate drama being more appreciated than ever.

Richard always brings the passion and drama, especially in his work with Sergey.  This series of images beautifully illustrates their power, and the skill both model and artist bring to their visuals.  From the moment I first saw Richard's work with Sergey back in 2018, I could see and feel Sergey's strength and sexual energy.  His moxy (moxie) was there from the start, but it's only grown and become more forceful over their years of collaborating together.

If there was a silver lining to the year's challenges, it was that Richard and Sergey, along with Richard's dog Teddy, got to spend some of their quarantine time together.  Living in the same building, with an outside rooftop studio, meant work, to a some extent, was able to continue.  Artist and model also made frequent trips to Fire Island.  Beyond being a place to safely shoot outside, it was also a bit of a safe haven, and most importantly for Richard, very therapeutic.

Many FH readers may already be aware that over the last year, Sergey has been spending as much time or more, behind the camera, than he has in front of it.  Although I featured Sergey in A Baker's Dozen post early in September, I haven't featured new images of the New York based model since the Spring.  It's a more than welcome return!

Peter's Sticky Toffee

If you've been watching the current season of The Great British Bake-Off, like me, you may be pining over Peter.  The 20 year old baker hails from Edinburgh, Scotland, and is currently a student at the University of Edinburgh. Peter's majoring in accounting and finance, and is also the president of the university's badminton club.

Peter has an adorable look, and a beautiful smile and is still hanging on as the bakers head to the semi-finals this week.  Peter started out strong winning star baker on week one, and his sticky toffee in week two was lickably delicious!  Peter's had some up and down bakes over the course of his journey.  The show usually films weekends over the course of several months, but with Covid, the bakers were isolated and the show was filmed at sped up and filmed over just a few weeks.

Peter has an equally adorable brother Andrew who's a swimmer.  Andrew is gluten intolerant and sweet brother Peter goes out of his way to cook his his brother gluten free cakes and goodies. Peter was looking to sail to victory but Hermine has been closing in and I think if Peter doesn't step up his game, it's Hermine for the win.

Actor Vincent D'Onofrio wasn't really on my radar for my Actors & Skin series, I really didn't even know he done any nude scenes. That was until however, I recently re-watched a few scenes of Mystic Pizza.  He wasn't nude in the film, but it inspired me to go looking...
