Briancan Photography: The Bluffs
'Forming much of the eastern portion of Toronto's waterfront, the Scarborough Bluffs stands above the shoreline of Lake Ontario.'
It used to be the weather, but over the last year, the pandemic become the number one topic of conversation. It's understandable, Covid has impacted us all to varying degree's, whether directly, or indirectly through changes we've had to make and adjust to. It's also forced us to interact with others differently, sometimes leading to unplanned conflict.
One of my cousins called me last week letting me know he'd be driving though my town on the weekend. He wanted to meet me at the local pub for lunch. He was shocked when I told him I'd been back to a restaurant (except take-out) since last March, and didn't intend to until I was vaccinated. The call ended abruptly, it was though I lobbed some attack, and he seemed to take it personally.
I haven't become a hermit, just the opposite in fact. I go out every day, maybe even more than before the pandemic. I stubbornly don't want to be controlled by Covid, so although I don't hit all you can eat buffets, I head to the park to run, for a hike or to the beach more than I ever did before. I think a lot of people are, something several models and photographers I've covered recently have noticed during their shoots...
Brain (Briancan Photography) has been going to the bluffs since the 1990's, for the scenery, to shoot, and especially to hang out completely naked. Although it's never been sanctioned as a nude beach, many, especially men, have made it there unofficial nude beach of choice. The beach leading to the bluffs starts off of Queen Street East and goes on well into Scarborough so there are a lot of access points along the way. The rocks and beach, and the bluffs behind, make for a striking background for images of the male form. I was first drawn to the location in Brian's images awhile ago. I was always curious to learn more about the location.
'The sandy cliffs and rocks make it a great spot of photos. I started taking models there several years ago and they all love it. Many had never been and once they discovered it they went back on their own.'
Due to Covid, the bluffs have become more well known as great outdoor place to visit. It's understandable, and great that people want to get outside. There are nine parks along the bluffs, hiking and walking trails, picnic tables, fire pits, places to camp and even a restaurant and marina. Despite all of the things to do, Brian had still always managed to find quiet places to both get naked himself, and to take models there to shoot as well.
Ontario is currently experiencing another surge in Covid cases, leading to another recent lock down from the provinces premiere Doug Ford. Given the restrictions, it appears the buffs may not be an possible shooting option for awhile yet.
Brian is hoping by the summer, it might be again possible to plan and head out for another shoot. In the meantime, Brian shared some of the shots from his previous trips. A couple of the models have previously appeared on FH, and one of the images is of the artist himself. I look forward to when Brian is able to return to the bluffs to continue with the series.

Fortysomething
'I don't think I want to play a teenager anymore.'
Most teen idols at some point or another grow out of not only not wanting, but no longer being able to play teenagers. With his baby face, actor Devon Sawa was still able to play teens well into his twenties. Now 42, the Canadian born Sawa posted the image above this past February on his Instagram. Although no longer a teen, he looks as hot as he did when I first saw him on screen.
Like many of you I'm sure, I first saw that adorable face back when Devon actually was a teenager when he appeared briefly in the form of Casper at the end of the 1995 film. Devon went on to have a much talked about skinny dipping scene in Now And Then. Despite all the claims there was a frontal, the actor was still a teenager, and modesty pouches were worn by all four of the actors in the scene.

Given how long I've been working on FH, I often find myself focusing on the change, and the many themes that go along with it. Although the web is full of those 'now and then' images of celebrities, most of which are click bait, and usually meant to embarrass, or humiliate, for most, change is actually a positive thing. Sawa was an adorable teen with the a face, nose and the blonde hair, perfect for a teen idol. At 42, the actor still has that great face and nose, and his body is in incredible shape. Although his appearances in Casper and Now And Then were memorable memories from my own teen years, I'm much more drawn to Devon today and the wider variety of roles he's now able to take.
Although he's not nude, there is some nudity in this clip from 1998's Around The Fire. Eric Mabius also looks great in the scene.

Sawa showed a wee bit of butt crack in 1998's Slackers. You can see the film was yet another victim of the ole evolution from VHS to DVD. The DVD (cap about) cuts out all of Sawa's butt, a portion of which was seen on the VHS release. (below)

With Ease: Chris by Pride of Paradise
'Blond, Blue eyes, great face and body. What's not to love.'
What's not to love indeed! As fit and hot as Chris' physique maybe, it was his great face and beautiful blue eyes that first drew me his images from Michael Deer from Pride of Paradise Photography. Michael shares that Chris could evoke emotions with ease, and through his face and eyes, and through Michael's lens, Chris creates an emotional connection with the viewer in each and every image.
'I remember Chris as a very nice guy and really easy to work with. H could evoke emotions with ease. It's been awhile since this shoot and I would love to see him today, in life and through my lens.'
Michal shares that Chris was not only at ease with expressing his emotions, he also was incredibly relaxed with being, and shooting nude. Due to career reasons, Chris wasn't quite ready for his penis to make's it's public debut, but had no issue hanging around the studio fully naked, and loved playing dress up, trying on costumes and fashion pieces from the large wardrobe Michael had collected in his studio. Chris was wide-eyes over the massive collection of clothes and enjoyed playing dress-up' for part of the day.
I recently saw one of Michael's images of Chris on Model Mayhem, and had to reach out about seeing and featuring more from the shoot. It's been a few years since I've spotlighted Michael's work and have been looking forward to sharing more of his images. Michael's view of the model's that he shoots stood out to me the first time I saw his work. He always manages to capture something distinctive, a personality facet or emotional component of the model, unique to their work with Michael.
One of the reasons that it's been awhile since I feature Michael's work has been the many struggles the California based photographer has faced over the past few years. The pandemic was just of the obstacles in the way of not only Michael's shooting, but getting his life back to some sense of normality. In 2018, Michael lost his piece of Paradise in a fire that destroyed his home. He and husband Dale were forced to move and ended up in Willits, a small city a few hours north of San Francisco. It was a jolt to have to start over again, in a new home in a new city. The fire also destroyed Michael's home studio, as well as all of his negatives, photo discs, prints and home computer which stored his image archives.
Michael didn't have any of his work stored in the cloud, so all that was left were the images on his website, images on the net, on sites like FH, and anything he'd printed through his company's cloud. Thankfully, this series of images of Chris were displayed and saved on Michael's site. Given all that was going on in life, Michael took losing so much of his work in stride, realizing he just lost 'stuff' and that he and his husband Dayle were safe and loving their new life in Willits. Now that he's been settled for awhile, Michael has started creating a new studio space in a spare bedroom in a rustic out building. He's excited to start shooting again when it's finished and the pandemic is under control.

Erotic Haze: Joe Dallesandro in La marge
For me, actor Joe Dallesandro's nude scenes are a little like those chocolate eggs left by the Easter Bunny. Every time I think I've found the last one, another one magically pops up. I was introduced to this particularly beautiful egg by Alberto, a poster at DC. I'd hadn't heard of 1976's La marge (The Streetwalker) before, and welcomed the introduction. Certainly, growing up in the eighties, I'd heard of Dallesandro's co-star Sylvia Kristel, and actress I often associated with my early memories of seeing male skin on late night television. Kristel appeared in the Emmanuel series and of course Lady Chatterley's Lover.
Early in the film, it is evident that Sigismond (Dallesandro) has a physically passionate relationship with his wife, with whom he has a son. While on a business trip to Paris, he comes under the spell of a famous, beautiful prostitute (Sylvia Kristel) who resembles his wife. However, his efforts to monopolize her attention are not appreciated by her pimp, and he is severely beaten. When he gets a letter informing him of the death of his wife and son, he is totally devastated.

FaVorite FiVe: Yoshi Sudarso
Actor/Model/Stuntman Yoshua 'Yoshi' Sudarso was born in Indonesia and moved to Los Angeles at the age of nine. He and his brother, Actor/Model Peter Adrian Sudarso, developed a fanbase through social media by creating YouTube videos, doing fashion blogging, and cosplay.
Yoshi quickly began getting roles on television and appeared on TV shows including; Veep, NCIS: Los Angeles, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and as a regular on the Amazon series Pretty Dudes. Yoshi is also known for his multiple appearances in the Power Ranger franchise as Koda / Blue Dino Charge Ranger.

1991: Actors & SKIN
Viggo Mortensen in Indian Runner
If you grew up in the 90's, you most like saw some of writer and director Peter Greenaway's films. I never any of them in the theatres, but they often seemed to rotate on late night cinema on TV. I remember being frustrated by the nudity, and they were fast forward scenes for sure. There was often a lot of full frontals, from extra's, but the scenes were quick and full of dance and movement, and hard to really get into. Occasionally, like the scene below with actor Mark Rylance, the scene was focused enough to get a decent view.
I Knew whenever I hit Blockbuster, that if Julian Sands was in a movie, there was a decent chance there would be nudity. I'd forgotten about renting (on VHS) Husbands And Lovers until searching for films for this piece. Sands had several frontals in the movie, and this films deserves a decent Blu-ray release.
It was only a few seconds, but man, William Baldwin and Jason Gedrick's shower scene was the highlight of Backdraft. Those few seconds ertainly packed a hot punch and made an impact.
Of course I hated Patrick Bergin's character n Sleeping With The Enemy. It didn't stop me however, from renting the flick, even after seeing it in the theatre, just to get another look at Bergin's brief butt scene.
Close My Eyes is the only film included that I didn't actually see back in the 90's. I didn't watch the Clive Owen led drama until a few years ago. Owen was so beautiful in the film, and he showed off his incredible body in a couple of scenes.

The Male Nude in Cinema: 1991
I was still in Jr High in 1991 and spent most of my weekends hitting the movies with my friends. I saw everything, including most of the movies I'm featuring here. Some of the biggest, and hottest box office stars of 1991 included Robin Williams, Michael J. Fox, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Costner and Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford. Believe it or not, Charlie Sheen also made the list thanks to his previous roles in Navy Seals and Major League and his 1991 film Hot Shots.
Coming off 1990's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, actor Kenau Reeves was also at the top of his career, and the top of the box office in 1991. Keanu was in four films in 1991 including the sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Adventure as well as Providence, Point Break and My Own Private Idaho. The film became a cult classic and is considered a landmark film in New Queer Cinema, an early 1990s movement in queer-themed independent filmmaking.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Although The Silence of the Lambs won the Academy Award for best picture, the highest grossing film of 1991 was Terminator 2, Judgement Day. Like the first film, the terminator landed on earth in his birthday suit, but star Arnold Schwarzenegger, had a lot more clout in the business, and showed much less nudity than he did in the first film in the franchise. (see HERE:) No frontals in Judgement Day, but actor Robert Patrick gives us bit more butt when T-1000 makes his arrival.
1991 was a hot year for erotic thrillers. Many made short appearances in the theatre before quickly hitting the shelves of local video stores. Shannon Tweed was the softcore queen, so much so, I devoted a theme day to uncovering some of her hottest co-stars. (HERE:) So many familiar actors dropped their pants in erotic thrillers. In 1991 alone, Tom Skerritt, Andrew Stevens, William Katt, James Brolin, Gregory Harrision, Wings Hauser, Scott Valentine and Marc Singer.

Martin Hewitt in Carnal Crimes& Crime Lords
If Shannan Queen was the prince of softcore, Martin Hewitt became the prince. It's a crime that after his 1981 debut in Endless Love that Hewitt didn't become a bigger star. Movie roles were scarce after his turn in Endless Love and Hewitt spent most of the rest of the 80's working on television. By the time the nineties rolled around, Hewitt made the move to softcore films, with 1991 marking the first of a string of films he made in the early to mid-nineties.

Two of his first were 1991's Crime Lords and Carnal Crimes. Both were initially released on VHS, and I don't think Crime Lords ever made a transfer to DVD. I did find a grainy copy on Youtube which provided the brief clip above.
Carnal Crimes:
So, actor Richard Grieco was not nude in 1991's If Looks Could Kill, (aka Teen Spy) but his scene in his tighty whities was a scene, incredibly memorable to me. I remember being with a group of friends, and fighting hard to hold in my excitement, and to hid my erection, during the scene. Good thing for big tubs of popcorn.

Last year, Ryan Murphy got mixed reviews for casting James Corden in The Prom. Some thought Corden was great, others thought his turn was homophobic an offensive. Hiring straight actors for gay roles is a complex issue, and one without a simple answer. Of course LGBTQ actors need more representation, much more, performances like Wilson Cruz's turn in My So Called Life were transformational for countless viewers.
That being said, there are a couple of counter points to always casting roles according to the actors corresponding gender. First off, it's acting and if you only hire gay actors for gay roles, then it's going to be even harder for gay actors to get roles as 'straight' characters.
There's also the fact that some of us, sort of like to see straight actors in gay and bi roles. I remember watching Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal doing press for Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain. There was an annoying fascination by the press to ask how it 'felt' to play a gay character, especially in the love scenes.
It was annoying to watch, and seemed also annoying to Ledger and Gyllenhaal, yet at the same time, I understood it. There's almost an added element of excitement in some scenes, knowing the actors are playing against type. I'm still surprised when I find out adult film stars in gay porn are straight. Just recently I profiled porn star Brady Jensen. (HERE:) In doing research for the piece, one of the last stories I ready was about his engagement to a woman. He certainly deserved an award for some of the scenes he filmed.
This added element of excitement, much like a fetish, is one of the reasons so many gay men are drawn to the OnlyFans pages of straight models and performers. Truth of the matter is that most subscriber's to adult sites and OnlyFan pages are men. That means that many straight male performers, if they want to grow their audience, need to create content that will attract gay male subscribers. This was the motivation behind this shoot with Kings and Dom with Jim from Studio1x.
For Kings and Dom it wasn't so much about 'playing gay' or bi but simply playing. Having fun with another male model in order to ensure their viewers were getting the most of their memberships. They guys were actually 'playing' bi, as they've also done a lot of content with other female models as well.
When I initially asked Jim about a shoot for The Academy Awards, he didn't have anything directly on theme. He did however, describe a shoot that caught my attention... The description had me thinking both guys were going to have to stretch their acting muscles.
'I just finished a hotel shoot. Two straight guys. They are out of town in a hotel wake up and one thing leads to another and turns into a pillow fight. Movie is called pillow fight starting Dom and Kingsley. It's their first implied bi experience.'
You can feel the initial tension in the nervous laughs, and 'I can't believe I'm doing this; expressions, especially when Jim suggests they start with a pillow fight and then maybe.. some wrestling. The guys worked up quite a sweat rolling around on the bed and when they were done, a shower was definitely required.

Actors & SKIN: Gary Oldman
Although Oldman's been acting professionally for close to 40 years, his nude scene all occurred in the eight year span between 1987 and 1995. Oldman was in his late 30's and early 40's when he appeared in his 6 nude scenes, 3 of which included quick frontals. Oldman also had a blurry dream like if you jock strap scene in2001's Hannibal.

Joe (Oldman) and Kenneth (Alfred Molina) meet at drama school and live together for ten years as lovers and collaborators. Both want to be writers, but only one of them is successful.
Criminal Law (1988)
It was 1988 when Oldman made his on-screen frontal debut in the crime drama Criminal Law. With his hair in this flick, he sort of looks like Christian Bale's older brother. There is a rather 'aggressive' sex scene in which Oldman's penis is visible in just a few frames. The more interesting part of the sex scene is that when Ben looks down at the woman he's having sex with, he see's Kevin Bacon's face instead of hers. You'll have to watch the film to find out why...
Track 29 (1988)
In 1988's Track 29, Gary Oldman's character Martin, jumps out of the closet naked, and humps and then brutally murders Henry, played by Christopher Lloyd.
In 1955 Florida, a Korean vet has a breakdown and is incarcerated in a "maximum security" mental health prison, where patients are abused. Oldman plays Emmett, and although his nude scene isn't a pleasant one, he looks hot with his long beard.

For me, Oldman was as his hottest as the long haired Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale in the 1997 adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne classic novel The Scarlet Letter.

ACTORS & Skin: Gary Oldman
Sexual attraction is an interesting thing. Sometimes, it springs up to surprise you when you least expect it. I've never really been drawn to actor Gary Oldman. Except for his roles in Harry Potter, and his guest stint on Friends, I've not been a huge fan of many of his films. .
I've certainly seen enough to know he's a great actor, but there's was always something. Maybe it was the many rumors about him, but he just never really did it for me. Until this year...
Prick Up Your Ears (1987)
Oldman's skill as an actor has meant he's been nominated for many awards. That has meant, I've search a few previous times to find his on-screen nude scenes when putting together my award show posts. I did it, as part of the post, but never really thought much about it. This year, all of a sudden, I'm salivating over Oldman's Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter, and searching for each and every one of his nude scenes.
The Scarlet Letter (1985)
This year, I found Oldman incredibly hot, and in addition to The Scarlet Letter, I also thought he was particularly sexy, (and murderous) in 1988's Track 29.. I also enjoyed watching his turn as gay writer Joe Orton in 1987's Prick Up Your Ears. Given his plentiful resume of nudity, it seemed his nomination this year made for the perfect reason for and Ode to Oldman and an Actors & Skin.
