An Opportunity to Soar: Elvis by StudioMGphotography

' I knew from his Instagram pages that he was incredibly physically active, and definitely a daredevil... '

I was first introduced to Elvis in 2019 in a shoot with JBDI Photography.  (HERE:)  Elvis soon became a popular subject for many photographers of the male form, some of whom I've had the pleasure to share.  In addition to his great look and expressiveness, Elvis's artistry and acrobatic skills make him a dynamic model to shoot and create with.

Thus far however, Elvis' acrobatic skills have been somewhat constrained.  In his previous FH appearances,, (HERE:) Elvis has been mostly photographed in studio. Although Male Beauty by bengie shot Elvis on the patio and in the shower, there wasn't really the space or freedom to do a handstand or backflip. .His work with Baker and Adams showed both flexibility and balance, especially on the bar stool, there still wasn't the opportunity for Elvis to soar.

The opportunity to soar, and to really go full daredevil, take risks, and show test the limits of his body and skills, came in his time creating with Mark from StudioMGphotography .Mark rarely shoots inside, and when he does, the rooms seldom have doors, roofs or glass in the windows.   Mark's studio is usually a rugged Santa Cruz beach, one in which the gymnastic equipment, is beautifully supplied by Mother Nature.

The shoot, almost didn't happen.  Elvis was a or so into his multi-month trip through the U.S and Canada.  Elvis was visiting up with friends, but basically exploring and just living his best life along the way.  During many of his stops, Elvis had scheduled photo shoots to help fund his trip and continued adventures.   He'd already been in Southern California for a couple of weeks and done several studio shoots.  At that moment, he was wavering about how much nude modeling he really wanted to pursue.

'Elvis wrote me and cancelled about a week prior to the shoot. Someone who wanted to be his agent told him he should rethink all the nude modeling, especially the more hard-on work. He and I didn't have any firm plans, and Santa Cruz is somewhat out of the way on his trip up California, so he nicely cancelled on me. '

Elvis also decided to tell several other photographers of his decision to stop doing nude and erection work.  This led to some cancelling their previously scheduled shoots.  With the loss of planned income, and a gap in his schedule, Elvis got back in touch with Mark. Mark was fine with 'no erections', but given the focus of the shoot, was clear that he wasn't going to spend the shoot trying to keep Elvis's penis out of photos.  Elvis had no problem with that and was again on board for their shoot.

'I proposed a shoot that would take him out of the studio, to explore some the California landscapes and make the most of his time here! He arrived a day early so we could get an early start on our shoot day, and that gave us a chance to get acquainted first as well.

Originally from Latvia, he had essentially grown up in Scotland. He was just 20 at the time, but well grounded (as much as a high-rise climbing daredevil can be!) and easy to talk to.  He stayed with us for a couple of nights and both he and I were thrilled with our shoot results - he'd never had such a physical shoot where he just got to do what he wanted for the most part!'

'I backflipped off a cliff butt bare naked after making Mark climb up🤣'

The shoot ended up bringing out the daredevil not only in Elvis, but Mark as well.  When you're shooting a model as active as Elvis, you have to try to match their energy, in order to keep up.  Capturing some of the incredible images here, required Mark to also channel his inner acrobat by crouching, crawling and climbing, not to mention balancing on the rocks himself, in order to capture the perfect moment of the model in motion.

'Our shoot was nerve wracking, and also a dream for me! The cool deserted beach was the perfect environment for him - it was like a giant playground of rocks to climb and jump from. In a couple on instances he got me partway up cliff-faces to capture what would be the likely best angles and he practiced jumps. It was an exhilarating day and shoot - thanks Elvis! '

'The shot below is one of my absolutely favourite images to date. Framed perfectly in between the cave, the rock tells a story. A story of a lone adventurer experiencing the world.'

Guy Pearce in Flynn

Like so many of you, I've been captivated the last eight week with HBO's The Mare of Easttown.  Just when you think you have things all figured out, the show throws another twist your way.  Is the town priest, the victim's baby daddy or Mare's best friends creepy brother-in-law?  Most likely, it's none of them.

The entire cast is stellar and I especially enjoyed the performances from Kate Winslet, Jean Smart and Evan Peters.  It was also a nice surprise to see Winslet again paired with Guy Pearce.  Guy played Monty Beragon to Winslet's Mildred in HBO's 2011 adaptation of Mildred Pierce.  I loved the original movie, and had some issues with the mini-series, (especially Evan Rachel Wood)  but Pearce was great as Monty, likable, even when the character was not.

Seeing Pearce in Mare of Easttown had me reflecting on some of his past roles, especially the ones with a little skin.  Many remembers Pearce's butt baring scene in Memento (2000) and the talented actor also bared his butt briefly in both Mildred Pierce and 1994's The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Pearce's first nude scene however, was in 1993, just a few years after his turn on the Australian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away. Although Pearce had a few supporting roles, Flynn (My Forgotten Man) was the actors first leading role in a film. The biographic film spotlighted  Errol Flynn's early life before his Hollywood fame.  Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly a box office hit.

Mare of Easttown

Flynn (1993)

'A young Errol Flynn (Guy Pearce) foretells his wicked ways in Hollywood with exploits in New Guinea and Australia.'

'From a dazzling nude scene in the first few minutes FLYNN gets off to a fairly robust and interesting start. Sadly, FLYNN runs out of steam after about the first 35 minutes and with the entrance of hammy Steven Berkoff in a detour to New Guinea). The film starts to resemble a tele movie rather than a major cinema biography. Believe it or not, by about the 70 minute make, it is boring and you are glad to see it over.'
IMDB

Thankfully, we do have that nude scene, although I'm not sure I'd describe it as dazzling...  It's a bit dark, but director Frank Howson doesn't do a quit edit and cut away and keeps the camera on Guy's glutes for about 20 seconds.

'From the farm to the runway'

In addition to his images of Elvis (below) we credit StudioMGphotography for inspiring this piece.  Last year, Mark mentioned that he and husband Mike Tossy had watched Anne With An E on Netflix. Having visited Prince Edward Island, I knew it was scenic location with endless red sandy beaches.  Even though I'd been there, for some reason, I hadn't yet checked out the newest version of the tales of Green Gables.

Stephen by Adam Washington

The show certainly shows the breathtaking island at it's rugged and breathtaking best with the shows cinematography especially impressive.  In addition to Anne and her friends and family, the fist season also introduces us to Mr. Phillips, one of Anne's teachers at Avonlea school.  Now Mr. Phillips isn't exactly the teacher you want to bring a big red apple to.  In addition to having an secret affair with Prissy Andrews, one of his students, he's also not particularly kind to Anne.

Stephen by Ed Dandy

Mr. Phillips is very strict and doesn't shy away from embarrassing his students and inflicting corporal punishment on the students he considers to be especially unruly, especially Anne.  Outside of the classroom, Mr. Phillips is revealed to be a man full of contradictions and Anne's friends Cole speculated his behavior in part might be due to his repressed homosexuality.  It's no wonder Prissy ended up leaving him at the alter.

Stephen by luvgenstudio

The actor playing the stern school teacher is also full of contradictions, and looks completely different without the log wig and moustache.  Stephen Tracey is not only a phenomenal actor, but also a writer, illustrator, photographer and as you can see from these images, an incredibly hot model.

Remaining images by Barrington

'Tracey was born and raised in the province of Alberta. Most of his childhood was spent on his family’s farm- where he formed a devoted love for animals. Still to this day, Stephen carries the grace, beauty and temperament of his kindred spirit- the horse.'

If anyone's watching the NHL playoffs, you know the last few games between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs have been nail biters.  The match-up was a long time coming and last night, the third period ended with a 2-2 tie.  The Canadiens scored quickly into over-time forcing a game 7 this Monday night in Toronto.

With all that gear, it's sometimes difficult to get a good look at your favorite hockey players, so I thought I'd take a closer look at one of my favorite Toronto players, 25 year old William Nylander.  Although born in Canada, you can certainly detect the impact on his look from his Swedish father.  William's father Michael was also a hockey player who played for a number of US teams during his long career.  Michael's hockey career influenced not only William, but also his brother Alex who currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Caged Men

As the new guy, Elliot is considered fresh meat and encounters inmates trying to make him their own at every turn.

Elliott (Ross Stephenson) isn't the brightest bulb in the box, but he is sweet and has a good heart.  Elliott also has feelings for the lovely Sherri.  (Maureen McGill)   It's Sherri who ends up being Elliott's downfall when she asks him to take part in a bank robbery.  Hoping this might lead to her returning his affections, Elliott agrees.  Sadly, Sherri has eyes for another and Elliott ends up in prison.

In addition to providing Elliott a reason to break the law, and to firmly establish he's straight, the addition of one female character allows the producers to add the words 'plus one woman' to the movie's poster and promotional material. Although Sherri isn't in the movie for more than a few scenes, I'm guessing her inclusion, in part, was trying to ensure the movie could be promoted to mainstream audiences.

Edward Blessington

Truth is, once Elliott ends up in prison, the movie is mostly about him trying not to sexually assaulted or raped.  The gay stereotypes are not subtle, and many many find offensive.  I cut the move a little slack given in was 1971, and the film was obviously geared towards satisfying a gay audience.  In most versions of the film, Stephenson's shower frontal is cropped from the scene, but thanks to the posters at DC a clip from the Blu-ray version, including Stephenson's frontal was found.

In addition to being a Sexploitation film, Caged Men can also be categorized as a Canuxploitation film.  Canuxploitation is a word used to categorize B movies filmed in Canada.  Sadly, there was very little to find out about the film's appealing lead actor.  Caged Men appears to be the one and only film from actor Ross Stephenson.

Joseph Lally: The Money Shot

'The aptly titled final episode of Joseph Lally's Soap Opera film series is in his own words 'a film version of Michelangelo's David'.'

No, this video from artist and photographer Joseph Lally isn't new, it was first published as part of his Soap Opera film series back in 2014.  Recently, I went back to it and am now viewing it in an entirely different light.  FH may recall that I dipped my toes in the Housewife series for the first time this year.  I started with The Real Housewives of New York.  I binged the first few seasons, and profiled a few of the men who drew my focus. (HERE: & HERE:)

After awhile, I needed a break.  All of the alcohol infused drama went from amusing to disturbing for me. Don't get me wrong, I drunken craziness can be fun, but a few of the women seem to have serious addiction issues which are being exploited for 'good TV.'   I recently stepped back in and watched a few episodes from season 12.  Like Ramona, I was attracted to the tall and handsome William who showed up as one of Ramona's friends in a couple of episodes. William was a model and when searching found his work with Joseph.  Ramona has great taste!

Along The Way: XL by Bob Burkhardt

'I’m naturally silly and I have fun. That’s what life is about. We already have to work until we die, so might as well have fun along the way.'

There are some models, some performers and just some people who stand out in a crowd.  XL is certainly one of them.  When I began featuring the work of Atlanta based photographer Bob Burkhardt, it was his images of XL that first caught my eye.  In addition to his incredibly hot body, XL has a strength and sexual intensity in front of the lens channeled through his poses, his facial expressions, and especially his eyes.

I often comment than dancers and successful adult film actors make the best models. In order to make it in either profession, a powerful nexus between mind and body is required.  Audiences can feel when the connection is not authentic, and it inevitably shows up in their performances.  It was through XL's work in adult films that he and Bob first connected.  Bob was hired to do shoot for Entertainment West, the porn studio XL was working for.  At the time, XL was new to the business and new to modeling as well.

Although young and new to being in front of the camera, Bob was impressed with how motivated hw was in both his work, and all areas of his life.  They made an instant connection and Bob suggested they also focus their shoot on work which would appeal to a more mainstream audience, beyond the fans and viewers of XL's film work.

'XL is creative, driven and focused.'

XL's creativity goes beyond just his work in front of the camera, the Atlanta based performer is also a painter, and enjoys visiting museums, and any art related project.  XL also has a regular 9-5 job which allows him to keep a regular work schedule and also keep porn where it belongs, as a fun, secondary hobby.  It pays well, but XL is well aware there's a shelf life in adult films and  part of his drive is to ensure success and longevity beyond his time in the porn industry.  Porn and photography are some of the fun stops along the way.

XL On:

Preparing for Film work vs a photo session:
'When shooting a movie, I like to have at least a week in the gym, healthy diet, plenty of rest & I don’t masturbate for at least 3 days. For a photoshoot, I have to have a cold shower before I start & plenty of water. I Need Music while I’m doing a photoshoot too '

The best part of working with Bob:
'The aura & energy Bob exudes. There’s almost a telepathic type of vibe we have whenever we are shooting. He knows what I mean but it’s instant magic.'

Any Challenges?
'Not on Bob‘s end. Location shoots can be difficult due to weather or bugs (pool shoot in the summer) but overall the atmosphere is very comfortable.'

The Underwear and Fashions?
'I may bring some jockstraps from BoyNextDoor but Bob usually supplies & crafts any outfits for the shoot.'

First impressions after seeing the finished images?
'I was nervous because I didn’t plan on getting into the adult industry. Overtime, I began to have fun with it & gain confidence in my appearance. Bob frequently makes jokes to lighten the mood as well.'

Bob's style and attention to detail:
'Bob’s photographed some of my best photos. Any idea he has, he implements immediately. Depending on what time of day it is, he doesn’t waste any time on getting natural light while it’s available. Even adding artificial lights when necessary. I have to keep up with the aesthetic changes but I love the pace. It keeps me moving around & constantly has me maneuvering my body to stay in frame.'

Sexploitation films were at their height in the late 60's and early 70's.  In almost all of the films, the sex being exploited was female.  One of the most popular themes in the genre was the women's prison film.  An innocent looking new inmate, a tough warden, strop searches, shower scenes, lesbian love scenes and a laundry room sexual assault.

1971's Caged Men (I'm Going to Get You... Elliot Boy) had all the same tropes associated with prison Sexploitation films except this time, the sex in question is male. Elliott may not be totally innocent, but actor Ross Stephenson certainly looked innocent enough, especially making his way through his strip search with a prison guard and his overly eager inmate assistant.

What They See: Jon by Richard Rothstein

'Photographing favorite models is how I do a housewarming.'

Regular FH readers are keenly aware of the unique way Richard Rothstein throws a housewarming.  While some of us have a few friends over for a BBQ or some Chinese take-out, Richard's method of celebrating is far more intimate and requires only one invite. It's also a function that he's fortunate to be able to repeat again and again.  Last month, after a recent move a few floors up, I featured Richard's housewarming with Jacob. (Under the Same Roof).

For today's piece, Richard continues his housewarming tradition, this time, it is Jon Whitney who's leaving his beautiful naked imprint, both digitally, and directly, on Richard's furniture.  Some of you may remember Jon from his last appearance on the site.  Last year, I featured the New York based model's work with New Light Photo. (Compositional Elements)  Although 2020 was pretty much a shit year, one of the highlights for me was discovering Jon's work and following his many shoots and modeling jobs on his Instagram.

On the surface, Housewarming parties are about new home owners showing off their new digs.  To show off how they've put together their furniture, their artwork and their new rooms.  In reality, it's a really a great chance to be nosey and judgemental.  Housewarmings usually mean a tour.  A chance to go from room to room and give positive feedback about all the homeowners hard work.

Of course we're usually quite kind,  at least to the homeowners face.  In reality, we're often pretty judgemental, taking note of their choices, both those we'll copy, and those we'll avoid.  In many ways, photo shoots are much like housewarming parties.  Photographers put their new work out there to both be seen and be judged.

With Richard's work with Jon, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and every inch of the tour.  Jon is the perfect guide and a spectacular centerpiece, to all that surrounds him.  In addition to the hot naked models, Richard's apartment shoots also provided a visual smorgasbord of contrast and detail.  I'm always fascinated in the art on Richard's walls, what's lying on his tables, and what books are on the shelves.  Most interesting for me, the incredible panoramic views from the apartment's many windows.

Whenever I visit a person's home for the first time, I'm less interested in what they have, and more intrigued with what they see.  I always spend time looking out their windows, and checking out their views.  Can they see streets, other people's backyards, into the windows of nearby homes or building.  Whenever I'm looking for a new home, I'm as interested in the view from the living room, than the living room itself.

We spend countless hours thinking about the colors of our walls, and what art to place upon them. I spent just as much time placing furniture, to ensure the I get the perfect view when seated.  I love to look out of windows, whether while eating in the kitchen, sitting at my desk in the bedroom, or on a chair in the living room.  I love that Richard's apartment tour not only gives us his view from inside, but from outside as well.

No tour of Richard's apartment would be complete without a welcome from Teddy.  Teddy was certainly a big part of Jacob's shoot,  (HERE:) and made sure that Jon felt right at home as well.

Simon MacCorkindale in Falcon's Gold

An archaeologist travels to Mexico to investigate rumors of the discovery of the ancient statue of a fertility goddess.

What does 1982's Falcon's Gold  (Robbers of the Sacred Mountain) have in common with Mare of Easttown, well nothing really.  But... one could argues, without Falcon's Gold, there may never have been a Mare of Easttown or any other original show or movie on cable.

Back in the early 80's, HBO, Showtime and Cinemax were mostly playing movies after their run in the theatres.  In 1982, Showtime's Falcon's Gold has a small place in history as being the very first film shot exclusively for a cable network.  It was a big deal at the time and it's success led to many original movies and television shows and the TV landscape we have today.

Last month, when I profiled actor Simon MacCorkindale, (HERE:) I thought I caught all of his nude scenes.  I'd forgotten about his 'cable rated' skin in Falcon's Gold.  Simon doesn't show much, but he looks pretty fetching with his come hither look laying in the hot tub.  Simon also is forced to put on a loincloth for a homoerotic fight.  I added some videos from the film, but apologize, I could not get the sound to work when I made the clips.
