Frisky Frolic: Geometry

Geometry:  A branch of mathematics concerned with questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space

As I was putting together more of my favorite images of Claudiu this morning I began to reflect on the themes which I use as the foundation for the blog. I get quite a few submissions and view many images throughout the week. I have always tried to post only on artists, models, images and projects I am passionate about, time is too really too precious to spend any other way. My guess is most people who check in every day have similar tastes and an appreciation for story and a bit of information, not just a barrage of images without any context.

It is this theme that has been frequently going back to artists whose work I respect and admire, and most importantly enjoy. Near the top of that list would undoubtedly be JayBee from Frisky Frolic. Thinking favorites, after finishing choosing images of Clauidu, I headed right over to Jay's site and began to put together some of my favorite of his captures.

After choosing about 50 images, I decided I had better stop, and come up with a theme. In reading back on some of my previous features of Jay's work, I realized I most often focused on the fun. Jay's work is both colorful and immensely creative, his themes and idea's never cease to bring me erotically motivated joy. But there are other factors at work, creativity without skill may be able to create art, but it cannot create a consistency of excellence, the way that Jay's work exhibits to me.

Today I looked at his work a bit differently with a unique and different perspective that Jay brings with such precision with his imagery. Geometry plays an important role in the final visualization of so many of Jay's images. Jay sculpts the body, or bodies not only with theme in mind, but geometry. Primary colors, along with shapes; squares, rectangles and my favorite of Jay's, triangles brings forth to me, a fusion of childhood academic memories mixed with our teenage and adult fantasy.

When we all entered our first art class as kids, there were not the restrictions on space and creativity we sadly learn as we age. Jay, takes us back to those early art classes. The elementary school art room was a place that took you so creatively away from the Math, English and Geography classes that bookend it. Those classes, much like Jays work, are a much needed infusion into our lives and days.

There has been an avalanche of great images from this years World Naked Bike Rides. I really liked this set, maybe because it featured two cuties preparing for the race in London for their WNBR held last Saturday.

'I think ruins are beautiful. Be it a western ghost town or an overgrown city in the mountains. We pass away and nature starts to swallow what belongs to it. This was one of those places. One day it will be green and quite again.'
Warren Russell

When I first featured the imagery of artist and model Warren Russell, he was naked and wielding an axe in a run down old barn. (To The Woodshed) It is one of my passions exploring the relationship between form and surroundings, especially when those surroundings have been long forgotten. There is quiet beauty in seeing the naked male form, breathing and vital, place within a setting basically left for dead. The living breathing human body brings forth an erotic resuscitation to the surroundings, if only for just a moment.

Warren's words above came from an e-mail he wrote me a few weeks after I posted his self shots at the old barn. Warren had driven by the barn and saw that barn, the surrounding houses and woods were all gone. Acres of land had been fenced off and bulldozed. Every sign of what was once there was being buried and covered in preparation for the tightly packed housing community that was soon to be erected. It is sad, but fascinating that we continue to tear down such beauty and replace it with such mediocrity. Technological advancements bring on speed and efficiency, but also tend to be uninspired and distinguish all signs of craftsmanship and character. Even more frightening, is its tendency to wipe away the ability and desire of many to see it.

The qualities that drew me to Warren's images in the barn also have me loving these images of the old mill. Seeing Warren on, beside and within the structures many rooms and machines, his presence almost brings to life the many men and women whose livelihood depended on the Mill, and all that was produced there. I can't help but think of the many friendships that began, relationships that ended, fights, gossip and living that once occurred within. Given the age of the building so many that spent so many hours of their lives there are now at rest no longer needing to wake and head to work at the old Mill.

'The mill is something of a historical landmark in a small mountain town. It's easily missed by by those who speed by to quickly. The place is mostly just forgotten. The mill makes a great location because you have to take a few lesser traveled roads to get there, which means you're unlikely to be interrupted during the shoot.'

The Hunky PM?

In the US, it is all about whether Hillary can be beaten. If anyone follows politics north of the border, there is a hunk in waiting to take over as Prime Minister when Canadians go to the polls in the fall of 2015. Son of former Canadian PM Pierre Trudeau and his wife, actress, author and photographer Maragret Trudeau, Justin Trudeau has the media in a tizzy with his good looks, charm and political charisma.

Justin currently serves as the leader of the Liberal Party and has proven himself a strong advocate for the rights of all Canadians with a focus on gay and women's rights. Trudeau has gone so far as to say he does not welcome anyone in his party unless they support a woman's right to choose. Although I wish more attention would to towards adoption, I appreciate him taking an actual stand, and not straddling the political fence on this, or any other issue so far. I also of course appreciate his great smile, thick dark hair and that he wears tight jeans whenever he is able.

If there is a Pride Parade, Trudeau is usually waving the flag.

Kedori : Lets Try It Naked...Or With Paint Poured All Over You?

$

'Kedori is a Canadian physique model based in Sydney Australia. His obsession with the gym, and sculpting his body, makes him the ideal subject for photographers.'

The above description from Kedori's site and facebook page does a decent job of describing the surface. The Australian models obsession with the gym has obviously led to incredible body; strong, fit and camera ready. It is also a body able to move and create beautiful bodyscapes and moments of movement photographers have skilfully frozen in time.

At FH however, you know how I love to peel just a little below the surface. Then...maybe just a little below that. Although Kedori's images express an unyielding strength and confidence, behind his Greek God like body, his magnificently structured face and piercing brown eyes, there is much much more. Like the rest of us, Kedori is a man with insecurities, passions and creative desires that I wanted to find out a bit more about. I think my curiosity began with the first image of Kedori that I saw. (the fire extinguisher pic 6 images below) Although much of Kedori's images are planted firmly in fitness and physique, this images was planted firmly in creative fun and told me there was much more to this modern Adonis than just the amazing good looks...

How it began?

'I arrived at a point in my life where I figured I was not going to get in any better shape and would like some photographs taken as proof later down the road. My friend had told me about her profile on ModelMayhem so I decided to put a profile on (yes I was one of those guys with photos taken with a point and shoot, on a timer). Luckily my shots where not too bad, and I was approached by my first professional photographer: PhotographybyRudi. I replaced my “selfies” with his shots and received more attention from there…'

Favorite experience modeling thus far?

'I had the chance to work with a young photographer named Rhiannon Jansma, who needed a model for her end of School project. Her ad on ModelMayhem had the disclaimer: You must be comfortable with having paint poured on you. When would I ever get that chance again? We did 2 separate takes, one with white paint and then the second with black – having bucket after bucket of paint poured on me. It is still one of the projects that I am most proud of.'

The Worst?

'I volunteered as a body painting model for a woman that was finishing her make up course. Her idea was an Evil Tinman with the Wizard of Oz being the inspiration. I ended up being painted a blotchy matte grey with a few black lines to represent hinges. I didn’t even want copies of the photos that were taken at the end.'

'I did a couples shoot with a Japanese model Yuki, we had never met each other before the shoot. When she arrived we were introduced and went straight into attempted to getting into the first pose. She kept slipping on my pants, stopped and said “Let’s try it naked”… and we were naked for the rest of the shoot.'

Experience On ModelMayhem?

'ModelMayhem has been good to me, as I have met almost every photographer through the website. I think the strangest request I have had through MM was a female model that asked me “what’s your stance on penetration?” Via a different website I had a photographer ask me to work with him – when I did a bit of research online I found some of his shoots included masturbation (to completion). To each their own, but not the shots I am looking to post on-line.'

Off With His Clothes?

'I came into modelling wanting to get physique photos taken, so I expected to be doing implied nude shots from the start. I think the only thing that I have ever had to take into consideration was that I was a manager in one of the departments for one of the big banks in Australia. I didn't know how they would react if they had found out. I don’t work for them any more so we will see how far I take it from here...'

Rules For Shooting?

'I just want to make sure that everyone involved is having fun, and not doing anything that they didn't want to do. I never want to do a shoot that would be considered degrading to anyone involved or to people viewing it (though you can’t please everyone). I have accepted my niche in the market and know that most projects will include nudity, and I am ok with that.'

Additional factors which come into play when shooting nudes with another model?

'I have two big fears when it comes to working with other models:

As you can see by my photos I am not the youngest model online. I know I get judged by the photos that are posted (and the photographers I have worked with have made me look great). I just worry that I am going to show up and they are going to see me and be disappointed. Luckily it doesn't seem like anyone has been disappointed so far.

The second fear would be getting aroused. I have had the opportunity to work with some very beautiful and sexy women, and have been in some pretty intimate poses. As I had just met the model you don’t want to put them in an awkward position. I have been lucky that nothing has ever gotten out of control.'

As for future goals,  Kedori hopes to get involved in another professional full body paint project. His positive experience with couple shoots has also led to a desire to do more, especially ones with a focus on great bodyscape work and lighting. I think Kedori can count on being busy as there is an energy and flare that he brings to his work that shines through in so many of his images. Kedori is the complete package, great body and look, and a great attitude with his humility and consideration of others only adding to the many reasons why he would be such a great person to work with.

'It would be fantastic if this lead to money and a career but I am still very realistic. As long as photographers and other models are happy to work with me I am happy to use this as an artistic outlet. It would be great to get published some day… I have been blessed to work with so many talented photographers that have helped me with my facial expressions and posing. A big thank you goes out to everyone that I have worked with.'

Sunday night some of the most talented and hottest men of Broadway are getting together for 2014's Broadway Bares 24, Rock Hard. I have been covering Broadway, and many of my favorite stage actors, dancers and singers since the blog's inception. If you click on the stage link below you will be transported back to seven years of features, including dozens on previous Broadway Bares. Many of the videos are sadly gone, but many great ones remain.

Many of the men I have profiled are hitting the stage, and removing their clothes tonight in New York. Sidney Erik Wright, Dave August, Brandon Rubendall and Ricky Schroeder are just the tip of the rock hard iceberg. Looking forward to the images and videos which are sure to follow!

Bay City man mowed lawn in the nude, charged with misdemeanor!

About 6:51 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, police headed to city's Banks District after someone called 911 to report he was mowing his lawn naked. The responding officer was told a man and his teenage son were visiting his mother-in-law in the neighborhood and that they were in her back yard when they heard a lawnmower start up.

"Then the guy came walking out and started cutting his lawn in the nude, I yelled at him and told him that he needed to put some clothing on. I don't need to see that!"

The mother-in-law, told the officer that a similar incident happened the week beforehand when the man mowed his lawn wearing only lady's stockings.

A Beautiful June Day by Tom Blanchard

Tim

'It was a beautiful June day at a remote creek in Upper Bucks Pennsylvania and I was set to capture the essence of the male body in nature. I love wet bodies and the creek was an exciting prospect to get some great photographs.'

When plunging into Philadelphia photographer Tom Blanchard's portfolio, it was this series of images that kept drawing me back. The combination of naked bodies combined with the beauty of the creek, are visually breathtaking. There was also something than the visual, Tom's images almost appear to come to life as you view them.

The water in particular is not just seen in Tom's images, but felt. As the creek slides up, and flows over each of the models naked bodies, you can virtually feel the coolness of the water as it hits their skin. I especially love how each of the models interacts with water and how beautifully the pose within it and draped over the rocks. The combination Tom captures, of skin and sunlight skimming across the running water creates an energy that has you longing jump in and join them for a dip.

'I love the natural setting and the play of water with the male body. Funny thing is this was my very first nude male shoot! They were taken over a two day period where a fellow photographer was kind enough to allow me to join him on a shoot to "get my feet wet" ... and they did!'

Darren

Professionally trained, Tom got his degree in arts back in 1989, the film era before photography turned primarily digital. Tom worked as a full time photographer for many years before deciding to leave it for a corporate job which provided more financial security. Over the years, Tom began shooting less and less and eventually ended up selling pretty much all of his professional equipment.

One of the main reasons I love working on FH is it provides a creative outlet, especially with my job which doesn't allow for much artistic creativity. Tom as well needed an outlet for his artistic needs and after his time away, returned to photography as a stress reliever from his day job as a analyst. After acquiring all new gear, Tom decided this time to focus his lens on what he was passionate about. After meeting up with the local photographer mentioned above, Tom began a new phase of his work, jumping into the creek and shooting these three magnificently sexy men.

'All three models were experienced which made for a wonderful shoot. Vincent, Tim and Darren were all a joy to work with. I enjoy shooting men of all ages. Maturity has a way of conveying lives experiences and a connection to that which I wanted to connect in my final images.'

Some of you might remember from my previous rants that I truly hate and worry about the avalanche of television violence thrown at American every day. I know there are some well done individual series, but between all the Law & Orders, CSI's and other procedural, Americans get a daily dose of creative ways to murder, decapitate, sexually violate, rape and torture another human being. A&E, once a respected channel for Arts should be ashamed of there 24 hour a day Criminal Minds marathons. Minds is not only one of the sickest of the genre, it plays many days all morning and evening, the perfect bay sitter for our unattended children and youth.

Somewhere within this group of human mutilation shows, I know there is some quality. The sites and sounds required to find it however, don't seem worth the journey. I don't object to violence within art whatsoever, it is the uncreative and mass copycatting of the genre, especially now, being shoved down society's throats that I find repulsive. You can bet most if those 'citizens' calling the FCC about a nipple or butt crack flash on prime time, put down the phone, pick up their chips and chomp them down enjoying a good ole bloody killing on tv, especially if the victim is a sexy half naked blonde beauty queen.

Just before closing my eyes and heading off to dreamland, it is not a child abduction, rape and murder I want to be the last things my eyes capture and memorize. I have gotten into the habit of needing a good sit-com to help wipe away the stresses of the day. Over the last couple of years I have run through most of my favorites and thought I was almost done. For awhile it was repeats of Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond and Modern Family. Although I liked (not loved) Big Bang on first airing, I don't find it nearly good enough to qualify for second viewings.

Thankfully, one of the superstations is now airing two episodes of The Middle each night. I had seen episodes before, but until my new nightly viewings, had not realized what a truly great show it is. The writing is top notch, as is the acting. It is funny how much I enjoy Patricia Heaton. Even though she annoys me in person and on talk shows, and her political leanings are polar opposite to mine, she has given men hours of laughs between Raymond and the Middle and I thank her for that.

All three Heck children are great characters and wonderfully portrayed but Charlie McDermott's Axel is my favorite. It is not just the obvious, adorable and often shirtless, I love Sue and Brick as well, but McDermott's Axel has grown over shows runs, his younger siblings still seem to be repeating story arcs over and over. McDermott is a skilled actor, annoying the shit out of you for his stupidity or uncaring attitude one minute, then winning you over with his vulnerability before the 30 minutes are up. The 24 year old actor has grown along with his character and one part of the many reasons spending a little time each night in The Middle is a nice way to end a day.
