Jim Wilkinson Images: Secondary Colors

'I've been photographing "real, normal" men for over 10 years. Perfection is not a requirement and often I've found it to be a detriment. I like to capture that special essence that makes each man a living, unique work of art.'

The above quote comes from the first time I featured the work of Seattle photographer Jim Wilkinson back in 2010. (E.G By Jim Wilkinson) Whenever I spend time with Jim's images the quote always manages to find a way return to my thoughts. I think because it is such a beautiful, and incredibly powerful, expression of why Jim's images are so strong.

Many artists, especially those capturing the human form, take a subject and use their considerable skills, as well as their editing program, to make their models look as perfect as possible...or at least however perfect is imagined by that particular artist. Other artists, see the beauty in what is there, and try to capture the unique quality within that makes them special. This quality may not necessarily be the perfect body, or a well sculpted nose or head of hair. It might be a kindness, or a strength that cannot be seen without an artist who appreciates it as important.

No one philosophy to shooting is better than the other, both can result in great imagery. There is a difference however, one that continues to come up the more artist that I communicate with. The primary features many use to determine the worth of a male model are age, weight, sometimes height along with a fit body and a decent and chiselled face. Most of us however, have a combination of primary and secondary features that we are forced to blend together to make work.

Corey

Great face but short, hot body but with a face doesn't quite work. 19, thin but not attractive, 18 but overweight. No one is able to balance all of the primary desired traits, at least not for very long. No matter how great the body and face, we all age and changes to human bodies are inevitable. I guess that is why I like to have a balance in the men and artists that display. We all love a young fit body, but it is refreshing sometimes to see erotic and dynamic images of men with beautiful secondary features.

Craig

When I was recently visiting Jim's tumblr I was colourfully reminded why I love his work. If you click on the archive link at the top of his page, you are taken to pages of small thumbnails of Jim's images. The page was a feast of both literal colors, both primary and secondary, but as well a visual feast of secondary, and many primary elements, that make the human male form such a worthy spotlight of one's artistic focus. Spend a few minutes scrolling down and I think you know what I mean. Also check out the next FH or some exclusive images that had me going back for more than a few secondary glances.

Although James Franco and Alex Minsky are getting a lions share of the press, Broadway Bares is about the actors, dancers and singers who work their asses off putting together hot sweaty and show stopping numbers for the cause. A just released Highlight reel (below) shows some of the nights show stoppers including many FH favorites. I hope to post more, but below is a great start with the tall hunk a hunk of burning love Brandon Rubendall and one of the Champion's, Mark MacKillop.

Low Speed Chase...

When police arrived at the home near Cochrane and Clark roads, the man was in a car in the driveway repeatedly honking the horn. As soon as the man saw police, he hopped out of the car and onto a 1973 Massey-Ferguson tractor, which he used to lead police on a low-speed chase through a trail near the house.

Summer of Samm by Jim Wilkinson Images

'When photographing a male figure, what grabs my attention is usually the model’s eyes, mouth and facial structure. What I try to capture is the model’s "soul": that unique combination of personality, heart and past experiences that makes each flesh and blood man a one-of-a-kind piece of art.'
Jim Wilkinson

On Thursday, I profiled the many secondary colors weaved within the work of photographer Jim Wilkinson. Today, I have one primary focus and it is zoomed directly towards Jim's images of the incredible Samm. Jim's images of Samm are beautifully engaging and he perfectly captures so many facets of Samm's personality, and in addition of course, his magnificent body.

Samm has a great look, a killer smile and an energy that lights up in front of Jim's lens. Not only do these images have the viewer physically attracted to Samm, they also bring about an emotional attraction as well. The unique combination of qualities Jim described, personality and heart in particular, have the viewer wanting to get to know the man beyond just what is seen, but also by what is felt. My feelings were confirmed after asking Jim to describe his work with Samm.

'I met Samm several years ago and we discussed a shoot at the time but it didn't work out. I recently reconnected with him and we set up a time to shoot. He's exactly the type of man I love to photograph: Great personality, award winning type smile, dancing eyes and a tight killer body. He literally has one of the top five best asses of anyone I've photographed in the last 15 years. And his front side below the belt is amazing as well.'

'This man has it all. So many times I meet great looking men but they turn out to be dull and so boring. Not so with Samm. He's a fun guy and so likable- which should be apparent to even the most casual observer looking at the images I shot of him. I'm looking forward to many more shoots with this man. He's going to do nothing but get better as he gains experience. And he's the type of man that you'd want for a friend... or more…'.

Adam Kaufman: First Encounters of the Close Kind

Actor Adam Kaufman may be best known for his 2002 role in Steven Spielberg science fiction mini-series Taken. I unfortunately never saw that series, but had been taken with Mr. Kaufman back in 1999 when he made his first television appearance on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

I have been wanting to profile Adam Kaufman since starting the blog, but there were surprisingly very few good images whenever I started to pull together a post. Recently however, with the announcement that Adam is joining Katherine Heigl and Alfre Woodard on NBC's State Of Affairs this fall, I decided to pull what I had and finally give the actor his due.

I am positive I was not the only Buffy viewer who instantly crushed over Adam when he joined Buffy in 1999 as Parker Abrams. His puppy dog eyes, his great face and adorable nose and that beautifully perfect head of hair. Buffy fell hard too, falling into bed with Parker in the season 4 episode Harsh Light Of Day. The episodes title sadly foreshadowed where Parker's character was heading. After a night of sex, Parker turned out to be a bit of a douche and sadly didn't stick around long.  Buffy soon moved on to another hot coed hunk, this time in the form of Riley Finn (Marc Blucas).

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Dawson's Creek

If the WB's Buffy began my crush, the WB's Dawson's Creek cemented it. Kaufman went straight from Buffy to playing Jack's first boyfriend, Ethan on Dawson's Creek.  His first appearance was in December 1999 in the episode, Close Encounters of the Close Kind. Although this relationship was again a short one, Ethan did serve as a mentor and bridge for Jack and featured Jack's first, and I believe the shows first, televised same sex kiss.

After Creek, Kaufman had stints on Without A Trace (with then partner Poppy Montgomery) and a host of other guest spots on television series and tv movies. State Of Affairs however, marks his first return as a regular on series television since 2007. Welcome back Adam!

For some Big Brother contestants, when the camera comes on, the pants come off! For some Big Brother fans, this is one of the main reasons to tune in. On this seasons Big Brother Canada, Arlie and Jon (above from a photo shoot out-take) fave viewers many reason to keep tuning in.

This week, the 16th US season began and within a short time after the live feeds were turned on, Hayden (and Joey) both streaked around the house. Thankfully Hayden looks different than his goffy 'Gilligan' themed promotional shots implied. Still.... with out without covering, Cody's backside (last image) is still at the top of my list for watching.

Climb: Tyler by James Spada

I have been featuring the work of photographer and writer James Spada for close to five years now.  This past March, I profiled one of my favorite of his recent shoots with Tyler. (Sumptuous)  Sumptuous perfectly describes the richness and texture I love so much about James imagery. Although sumptuous also fits this series, I would have to include another adjective, this time scrumptious which equally, ore even more so, describes the glorious Tyler.

Since that piece in March, I have been enjoying keeping up with each of the new images James releases, many on his e-bay site HERE: If you pay James page a visit, in addition to seeing even more of Tyler, you will see many familiar faces, and bodies, some of whom I have profiled over the years on FH.

James has authored several books devoted to the men he has captured over the years. He also written about many of the women he has admired. Although James has documented the live of Barbara Streisand in the past, this fall his newest book, Streisand In The Camera Eye will released. In the Camera Eye is a collection of 170 of the most compelling photographs of Barbra Streisand, chosen for their rarity, beauty, and insight into Streisand’s multifaceted life and career. Check it out and James other works onAmazon.

Reckless

'In sultry Charleston, where summer is long and secrets simmer behind every door, sex and crime walk hand in hand as two adversaries, a gorgeous Yankee litigator and a southern City Attorney, struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal that threatens to implode the city.'

Not sure how long CBS's summer soap Reckless is going to last, but with promos featuring Cam Gigandet stripping...his boat, it might be worth a look. The actors say the series pushes the boundaries of network television and as long as it is Cam, or co-star Adam Rodriguez, doing the push, I will give it a go, although for now, a DVR go.

You take Viagra, I sniff chlorine...

For some reason, Sunday mornings draw me to a certain artist. Usually when I feature the work of Richard Rothstein, I encourage you check out his site amstel89 to see more of his spectacular images of Manhattan and the men who inhabit it. Often, the man in focus is the incredible Rob Eco the city's own urban Tarzan. If those weren't enough reasons, let me give you just one more.  Although the visuals continue to inspire, this week I was struck by Richard's writing, and his story Jewish Boy Soup.

'My first orgasm and my first defining moment of self-awareness as a homosexual occurred at the age of 11 in the winter of 1960. The YMHA (Young Men's Hebrew Association) was the site of this momentous incident when I chose to become gay.'

'The "how to swim" lecture off in the distance became a slushy blur of background sounds. My senses focused on the rich aroma of chlorine (which still arouses me), sweet and sour boy body odors, warm, moist air, assorted tufts of dark curly hair--A Whitman's Sampler of beckoning appendages. Curvy mounds. Napes of necks. Bending, stretching. Teasing. Laughing. Bullying. Domination. Submission. I found myself slipping into some kind of hormonal stupor.'

Olivier Sylvestre - Artiste de cirque

Given it is Canada Day, I thought it fitting to post about a certain Canadian who has been on my mind lately. Circus has been a theme on FH many times, and the male form combined with circus is a favorite subject of mine to explore and feature. Thanks to a blog reader, I was turned on to an story about the Montreal Circus school and one of it's hottest artists Olivier Sylvestre.

Born in the area of Mauricie, Québec, Olivier developed his acrobatics with 12 years of experience with artistic gymnastics. Olivier decided to widen his horizon by visiting other art forms such as theatre. At the age of 18, he decided to link his love for arts with performance, and went for the auditions at the National Circus School of Montreal. Specializing in rope and German Wheel, Olivier is now playing a large part of the 2014 promotion for the school. No wonder, his good looks and circus artistry would make anyone want to s'enfuir et rejoindre le cirque!

Happy Canada Day!

Canada has always been fairly progressive with gay rights.  Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender citizens have been serving in the Canadian Forces, free from harassment and discrimination, since 1992. Canada also became the fourth country in the world, and the first country outside Europe, to legalize same sex marriage nation wide in 2005.  This past weekend, Toronto head the forth World Pride celebrations and parade. The next to be held in Madrid in 2017.

With all this pride, it makes sense that drooling over a little Canadian grade A beef would also be something celebrated north of the border. Back in 2003, Canada;s Bravo channel began looking for ordinary Canadian men, 21 and older, for their first (and I think sadly only) edition of Strip Search Canada. Given it is Canada Day, what better time than to look back at the men who went on to form the shows end troupe, Canadian Thunder.

Although the show narrowed the field down to just 8, most of the series was about the 100's of other guys across the country, auditioning, dancing and thrusting their way to eventual elimination.

I think Bobby Ryan (above) was a fan favorite, but I really loved Vincent (below). Vincent had that goofy, ordinary guy appeal with a smile that lit up the screen. If you check out the old youtube of his audition it is interesting (and rather erotic) VIncent's audition strip took place in his families backyard with many of his buddies, relatives and his dad and mom looking, and cheering him on.

Of course, one of the staples of any male strip show has to be the first wax. Eyecons has a great selection of images from that show, plus video! Click on the Strip Search Tag to see more from the show. Click HERE:

R.I.P Meshach Taylor

Actor Meshach Taylor turned a one episode guest stint into a career making role. I remember enough of watching Designing Women as a kid to have me hunt it down when it finally came out on DVD. I have not gotten all the way through yet, (and plan to stop at Smart and Burke's departures) but even with the dud episodes, there are enough really funny ones to keep me going. Anthony Bouvier came very close at times to being a sit-com stereotype. Taylor however straddled that line with skill and comedic timing that turned what could have been a throw away character into an important part of the show. Taylor's biggest gift was his ability to create great chemistry, forming important and distinct relationships with each of his female co-stars. His relationship with Delta Burke's Suzanne was one of the show's most popular pairings, but he zig and zagged well with all of the ladies. R.I.P Anthony.
