Suntown Photography: FurSkin

'I think is it a real shame that guys who are naturally hairy, or have hairy legs, feel they have to cover up so as not to get disparaging remarks such as being told they look like a Gorilla or Wooky. I would rather see body hair to tattoos or body piercing any day.'

Above: Jack

It is always refreshing immersing myself into the work of Suntown Photography. The UK based photographer always seems to find some of the hottest, and fantastically furried men to shoot. Early this Autumn, I headed into the Woodlands for a fun 'story' piece featuring some of my favorite shots outside on location in fields and forests. (Within The Woodlands)

It is a little chillier now, another good reason to keep one's natural body hair where nature intended it to be! I wanted to share some of my favorite images I could not fit in the first piece, but with the cooler weather, also wanted to head inside with some additional images from Suntown.

Many of the models shown here are also featured in Suntown's new book Young Otters 2. The original Young Otters was one of the artists most successful ventures with his images hitting a chord with many lovers of the male form in it's natural state. Young Otters 2 celebrates the hairy chests, hairy legs and hairy everywhere else... that so many of us love! You can preview a portion of the book and feel your own way through the fur HERE:

Be sure to also check out Suntown's collection of Calendars featuring some of my favorite of Suntown's models, some with their own calendar's and many in Suntown's 2015 collection of some of his best shots!

There is one advantage to not having paid much attention to thing which occurred prior to there being a me... There is so much to explore and uncover. Working on FH has opened my eyes to art I may not have ventured towards if not for the blog. Maybe even more pressing is my desire to have the artists I feature today, remembered for their skill and talent in the future. It is hard to even imagine what photography focused on the male form will look like in 30, 40 or 50 years, but I hope that decades from now, some future site owner (if there are still sites) might look back at FH when researching the art form from theh 2000's and 2010's, sharing some of the work from the models and artists who have been featured.

Darryl Powers

Although the male form within photography has been around for decades, it was not until the 60's that many photographers of the art form took on the legal system fighting battles which enabled those of us who came after to enjoy the fruits of their labour. It wasn't until 1962 when the US Supreme Court stated that depictions of the male nude body within photography was not 'necessarily' offensive. This change, although vague marked the beginnings of change with how male nudes were seen from a legal perspective.

Things certainly didn't change right away, photographers, models and publishers still had to be careful how they shared their work but the doors was slightly open, paving the way for the floodgates to spread wide open entirely by the time the internet made it's way into all of our homes and bedrooms. I am just beginning my education of some of the early pioneers of the art form, but was recently drawn to the work of Walter Kundzicz and the work and images he created under Champion Studio.

Bud Savage

Kundzicz' Champion Studio may be old news to most of you, but indulge me, I have just begun to dive into it's vast archive of images. Like many early chroniclers of the male form, the Walter's first models were his friends. Guys who trusted him enough to take naked photos of, never thinking they were the beginnings of a career. Kundzicz had his share of issues with the law when he began to publish, especially in the 60's. Through all of that though, he appears to have managed to stay mostly clear of serious trouble with the law.

Tuck Powerll

I plan on featuring more of Walter's work in the future, but if you're craving to see more, Goliath Books published a tribute edited by Reed Massengill entitled what else, Champion. Amazon.com has none for sale stating none available, but there appear to be several used on Amazon.ca if anyone wants to check it out HERE:

A Vintage Vantage

When I first began FH, one of my goals was to feature talented and beautiful men not just from today, but from the past. Problem was, I was like a lot of people who thought the past only included the years I was alive. I had a desire to showcase actors and models who impacted me as I was growing up and had an influence on who I have become. Most of the men I featured were big when I was growing up, especially as I entered my teen years in the 80's. I had a wall up though to anything older than I was, movies, television shows and men. That really hit home to me after Elizabeth Taylor died. As much as I felt I knew who she was, it had me realizing I had never actually seen any of her movies. I have since rectified that wall, diving head first, especially into old movies thanks to many suggestions of others and adding TCM to my cable package. Last year, I began labelling some some of blog posts A vintage Vantage. I have yet to go back and label everything that fits, but for me it includes anything that happened prior to my entering the world in the 70's.

I have both hot and cold feelinsg when spending time with 'vintage' images of the male form. Sometimes they make me sad, even bored depending on the image and artist. Other times, I am turned on, and addictively fascinated by what I find. Yesterday was one of those days. I after my profile of Nizar M and the vintage themes from Wim de Roo, I went on the hunt for similar imagery. Sometimes an image, like the image directly above lingers in my mind. I was intrigued about the model, when it was shot and the circumstances around it. The hair and jeans make me think 60's or 70's but I can't be sure. Was he posing for magazine, or was it for a portfolio. There is still a bit of a stigma with posing nude today, so I am always curious as to the motivation of someone who did so decades ago.

The model has one of those faces, you all know what I mean. Cute, but intense, even a little bit pointy. We all knew a few guys in high school with similar features. His expression doesn't necessarily scream he wants to be there dropping his pants for the camera, but maybe that is the look the photographer was going for. That face stuck with me for awhile yesterday, and all research came up empty. I am guessing it was from a pictorial in a 70's magazine, but if anyone has any other info, please let me know.

I have been so busy that it was just last night that I caught up on my 6 DVR'd episodes of The Good Wife. I managed to stay away from spoilers, including the casting of a favorite actor of mine. The show is known for it's excellence in casting some of Broadway's best and as soon as I saw the new character of Elfman I knew they did it again. I recognized actor Steven Pasquale's face right away. I have been hoping that Alicia might be paired up with Matthew Goode's Finn Polmar, but I can handle Steven making that difficult for awhile. Irresistible: Callum by Danny Barson

Callum: Gaelic, Disciple of Saint Columba, The perfect man!

'The only downside to knowing a Callum is you will not be able to resist him. Just looking into his eyes will have you hooked instantly. Just the thought of his gentle touch over your body, will have you so turned on. Callum's are full of passion, romantic, cute, funny, sensual, intelligent and will always put a smile on your face. In addition, if taught properly, Callum;s can make for a great man servant.'

I don't usually put much faith in those descriptions of the meanings behind a name, but with Callum, that description seemed beautifully on point. I have been a admirer of the work of England's Danny Barson for awhile now and first featured his work back in 2012. (Catapulted) I have been checking back to Danny's portfolio regularly and, as I am sure most of you will be, was unable to resist Danny's work with the incredible Callum.

Danny's images capture so many beautiful sides of Callum. His body is of course off the charts, but what is most irresistible are Callum's magnificent eyes and devilishly sexy grin. Callum is able express wide eyed naiveté in some shots, and in others, a clear and strong awareness of the sexual power he is able to illicit from those around him.

'The pics with the camera were my idea, it seems the whole world has gone selfie mad, and this was my interpretation of a selfie, using a very old camera. I just think, why have a grainy horrible selfie in a bathroom, with a mobile phone covering half the picture, trying to make yourself look good, when you can have a proper shoot done, and be a model, not just a bathroom model.'

I especially loved the two 'selfie' themed images from the shoot. I guess if you look like Callum, you might pull off those bathroom shots, but Danny's image more than proves the advantages of being in front of the lens of a professional. After seeing Callum's profile on facebook a couple of years ago, Danny says he and Callum have now worked together three times.

'It took a while to convince Callum to shoot, but when we did do our first shoot, he was very enthusiastic. We didn't do a nude shoot in the first meeting, it was the second shoot he did the nudes including 'the selfie'. Callum is just so natural in front of the camera and seems even more so when he is doing nude work.'

Callum's natural, fun and sexy presence in front of Danny's lens has proved very popular with the fans of Danny's work who check out his web page checking out for updates on his work with Callum. 'They always look forward to a new shoot with Callum, and I get a lot of messages and support whenever I post new pics from a shoot with Callum.' You can now count me in as someone who will be looking forward to more Callum updates on Danny's site!

Favorite Face of the Day: Shawn Doyle

Late to the party, last night I finished the 10 episode first season of the FX series Fargo. I had seen the movie years ago, but except for the accents, and that wood chipper scene, didn't really remember too much about it. The series was nominated, and won many awards last season and I now know why. Fargo grabbed me from the get go and the acting, especially from Allison Tolman and Colin Hanks was top notch. Tolman in particular was amazing and drew me into all of her scenes. I have to also give it to Billy Bob Thorton, I was never really a fan, but Thorton was down right frightening, creating one of televisions coldest and most diabolical characters ever.

I also loved Shawn Doyle, an actor I have enjoyed on screen and on television for years. Doyle's Vern Thurman was one of the seasons warmest characters whose warm face and character were always welcome in the often dark series. Although not on the entire season, had a strong impact on the story. Many of you may recognize the Canadian actor from his roles on 24, Big Love, Hannibal, Covert Affairs, Desperate Housewives and so many more television shows and movies over the last 20 plus years. Originally from Newfoundland, Doyle had a busy career in Canadian film and television prior to moving to California in 2005.

Above: Doyle with Allison Tolman

The producers of Fargo are hard at work on Season 2, but like American Horror Story, will not be directly continuing the story, but heading off to another time in history, this time with a focus on Molly's (Tolman) parents. Although I enjoy this type of storytelling, Tolman and Hanks created such a great, and welcomed family it would be great to have them both back in some capacity. It would also be wonderful to find a way to bring Shawn Doyle back for the ride as well.

Pix that make you Hmmmm:

Images that cause you to stop, take a second look... and ponder. The image may be beautiful, sexy, odd, funny or simply a head scratcher.

This image caught my eye for a couple of reasons, and not just because the subject is a cute unicyclist. This image from London's wnbr caused me to stop and pause for a couple of other reasons. Living in the North East, it is still strange for me to see such openness with pubic nudity. This is especially true when the naked person in question is surrounded by mothers, children and police offers, all seemingly very unconcerned, even uninterested in the the multicolored spotted man cycling naked a few yards away. I know the n in wnbr means naked, but in the small town where I live, the event consisted of about three people watching about 6 or 7 people on bikes, none of whom were actually completely naked, go round and round, circling the town until one of them suggested heading the pub. I might need to move to a bigger city... I was also tuned in to how a unicycle sort of poses your junk, whether or not you actually are, in the upright, pointing north direction. Visually it makes for a fun image but it may have this guy choosing a ride with two wheels next year so he may have some additional comfort options, like being able to stand, and dangle over if feels the need.

'Laifster is American with Norwegian descentm your dream Nordic god! Over 6ft with single-digit body fat. And he's so not shy...Oh and so flexible!'

The quote above comes from October profile, Perfectly Oblivious featuring the work of studioAtruong with the incredible Laifster. In that first piece, I focused on Laifster's flexiblility with Alain's extraordinary focus on pose and movement.

Alain also described Laifster as a Renaissance man, an actor and dancer who has travelled the globe, builds motorcycles, surfs, loves music, metal fabrication and the Circus arts. In this series, I focused on the actor within and the drama created by artist and model. Alain wraps Laifster in a variety of props, materials, fabric and chains. I love the different looks Alain obtained, from the erotic Game Of Thrones look to the Disco era American Hustle look with the over-sized jewellery and fur. He wears them well!

David Keene: Creative Minds

'I love anything artistic. I do music, I act so modeling is just another art form that I can be a part of to express creatively and work with other artists to create something special.'

David by Painted Cowboy Photography

I sometimes wonder why I still write a blog. Blogs became old fashioned about six seconds after they became popular. A form for the elderly to share recipes or an avenue for people to over share and exaggerate every minutia of their lives. I guess the answer comes down to creativity. I have little use for tumblr. Unless you are the artist sharing your own work, they seem like mass produced fast food to me, image after image posted with no intent, nor time to actually give any of them the attention they may, or may not deserve.

With a blog, I get to not only share images that I love, but present them in a creative way, telling a story through images and words. I get to design the layout, and format the blog into the magazine style FH has morphed into. Maybe it is because I am old fashioned, I never thought so until recently, but although my mind is progressive, my tastes tend to be more conservative and I would rather share an artistically created image that evokes something in me, rather than posting a flashy image meant only to grab your attention briefly, stimulate sexually, then disappear with any real lasting impression.

I think some of my favorite artists to profile are also driven primarily by the need to create. Photographers and models who enjoy the process of creating as much or more than the resulting images. Model David Keene is one of those artists. I was drawn instantly to his work after seeing just one image. Yes, admittedly David was completely naked looking incredibly hot. There was something more though, it was in his eyes. A confidence that said more than just the usual'look at me'. It was of a 'look with me', which had me wanting to see more. With a BA in Theatre and background in music, David is open to almost anything he views as artistic.

I love that when I asked David what got him started in modeling his response was a curiosity. A curiosity about modeling that him connect with someone on Craigslist needing models for an art project. David says he hasn't had a favorite experience modeling so far, to him he learns from every experience, including the bad ones. 'Anything that can help you in your craft as a model is a positive.' David thankfully saw my questions as a positive part of the creative process and indulged my curiosity about his time in front of the camera, his experiences on Model Mayhem and the decision to take it all off.

What factors did you weigh before deciding to pose nude?
First I had to be comfortable with my own body. I wasn't always happy with it. But once I grew to love me and myself and the body I was given, doing nude modeling was not a problem for me.

Did the response from friends/family or girlfriends enter into your decision?
I kinda always march to the beat of my own drum, so no. I don't tell alot of my friends that I do modeling but it's not something I hide either. It was a problem with one ex of mine, so I didn't do it often. It's something that doesn't come up too much when dating. Some girls are accepting of it and others are not.

What part of your body are you most happy with? What part gets the most attention from others?
Probably my butt. That's the first thing everyone notices about me, even with clothes on.

Any odd or strange stories from any shoots or your time on Model Mayhem?
There has been a few creepy guys. One guy it felt like I didn't know if I was coming out alive or not. I went to his house and he had nothing set up and seemed to have no real knowledge of what he was doing. Just seemed eager to see a nude male instead of actually photography. I call him Captain Creepy. I ended that shoot fast. MM has been mostly positive. Most people are there to build portfolios and make beautiful art. The only strange thing that has ever happened is a girl accused me of trying to sleep with her when I messaged her about working together. Sad part the shoot wasn't going to involve any nudity at all. I am here for art, not porn.

What would your dream scenario be for a shoot?
Anything that I view as art. There are so many things I want to try and do, that I couldn't just name one.

Is there a photographer you would really love to be shot by?
No, I just want to work with creative minds.

Politically incorrect for sure, especially around the Thanksgiving holiday, but that smile makes it a bit easier to swallow. Bonus points for using a torn off piece of his ripped boxers for a head piece.

At The End Of The Day: Jacopo Bongiorno by Mark Leighton

'That feeling, usually at the end of the day, work is done and you're home. Your shoes, and often your clothes, are off and on the floor, and you're free from the stresses of the day... Even if just temporarily, for the next eight, ten or twelve hours you're time is your. The sensation of both beautiful relaxation and erotic freedom.'

I am not sure anyone could resist ending their day staring in the incredible blue eyes of 22 year old Jacopo. Part Italian and Ukrainian on my mothers side and English on his fathers side, photographer Mark Leighton captured Jacopo, and his baby blues, in Algarve a couple of years ago. Thankfully the sun was still shining during this shoot as the sun sliding over Jacopo's skin only intensifies and beauty and sense of calm and relaxation.

Bucket List: James by Brett Kiellerop

'James is a softly-spoken larrikin. He exudes a relaxed, calming vibe which is quite soothing to be around, but he's also a bit of a devil. With his shaggy blond hair, handsome face, and inability to stay clothed, it was a no-brainer to hire him as an Aussie God.'

Throughout October, I featured several Halloween theme posts featuring the work of Australia author and photographer Brett Kiellerop. Brett's work is always a pleasure to feature and his use of a hockey mask with Tim in A Butcher Bared which made for a great holiday themed piece. Tim was not the only model Brett brought out the prop for. Brett also used the mask in his work with 20 year old James. James however is far too adorable to frighten or be menacing and his use of the mask is more likely to bring on a smile or blush than to evoke any fear.

I also loved the reason James decided to take it all off in front of the camera. James is not a model and this shoot with Brett was a one shot deal. James loves a challenge, and posing naked was something the always wanted to do. Brett's says he is grateful that James chose him for the privilege of helping him tick another challenge off his bucket list!

'James had never modeled before, and was quite curious about the process. He had a natural appeal, a gracious, easygoing manner, that I just had to try and capture. Although the photos I've chosen don't reflect this fact, James never stopped smiling. We had a lot of laughs during his shoot, and we both learned a lot! This was one of my first shoots, and James was very patient with me.'

Brett shares that James arrived at the shoot badly sunburnt having spent the day before out in the sun in only a singlet. It was a challenge to work around it as make-up and covering imperfections is not one of his skills. I think the peeling skin on his shoulders is rather sexy, and indicative of a Aussie guy who spends much of his days on the beach and in the sun. I also loved the chain James wore, very present in almost all of the images. I went through a chain wearing phase when I was in my early 20's and putting it on, and taking it off, reminds me of a very fun and erotic time in my growth and development.

'While he may not be a traditional model, with his sunburnt shoulders and not-quite-defined physique, James had an aura that I just had to try and capture. I think the results do him - and me - justice. He's a natural! James was just so happy, excited and eager to shoot!'

James, like many of the models of Brett's I have been featuring were originally shot for Aussie Gods, Brett's visual exploration of the male physique. The book, which contains 375 original images is available on Amazon in a kindle edition for a incredibly great price of just $3.99! Check it out HERE:
